Afd[edit]

Hi, did you mean to delete Matthew 6 sans any discussion? The Afd was on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ostensible not Matthew 6. Ostensible still exists. Was that a typo? History2007 (talk) 05:54, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake. Thanks for rubbing my nose in it. It should be fixed now.
I must have navigated to Ostensible, been redirected to Matthew 6 without noticing that, and deleted the page. Dumb. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 06:23, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Boracay[edit]

Hi Wtmitchell,

Greetings!

Hi Editors,

There is a bit of a problem in one of the entries about the history of the island of Boracay.

The old folks Sofia and Lamberto did develop the island through cultivation but as far as the members of the family are concerned including those settlers close to them, they did not "clear" the island. The source is still the same primary source which is the article itself published in The Sunday Times Magazine in 1987.

The "clearing" happened decades after, particularly in the late 1980s after electricity reached the island and some of the heirs of the islanders and the settlers began selling their lots to outsiders.

Since I was the one who contributed some of the family journals and accounts to Wikipedia I was told to rectify this error.

Thank you.

Aicykiss (talk) 08:42, 31 January 2012 (UTC) Aicykiss[reply]

From the info above, I'm not sure what to do, I'm in Romblon at the moment and traveling back to Boracay tomorrow. When my travel situation stabilizes, I'll take a look at this. Cheers. 203.84.185.242 (talk) 11:16, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've done some rewriting in the History section and added some cites. I'm not really happy with it as it stands now, but don't have time to spend on it right now. Other editors will probably improve on these changes. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 07:04, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hugo Chavez isn't a dictator. When we look at the sources, we can clearly see their propaganda meanings. I will not change status of Hugo Chavez, you're talking about here probably relates to the initial paragraph of [[WP:V but i can find sources that claims dictatorship of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Those are all propagandas. Dictatorship doesn't mean "enemies of The United States." -- Avatar9n (talk) 20:57, 12-02-2012 (UTC)

Hmmm... I recall looking at something related to this during a huggle session, but I don't recall the details and don't see mention of it in my contributions or in the edit history of the Chavez article. I'm guessing that my side of whatever sparked this probably relates to WP:VNT and WP:DUE. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 22:47, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Wtmitchell,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC) Young June Sah --Yjune.sah (talk) 22:31, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rude anon.[edit]

Do you have any suggestions for how to deal with this user? He is clearly someone with whom I have tangled before, judging by his comments, though I have no particular recollection of him. My guess is that he will return, given his attitude. Any thoughts? ---RepublicanJacobiteTheFortyFive 04:28, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bill. According to this log you got into bit of a race condition with another admin and drastically reduced the block length for an IP. Could it be an accident? Favonian (talk) 21:57, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up. I changed the block time back to one year. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 22:02, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great! This is an election year, so I guess we don't want to seen as "soft on vandalism" . Favonian (talk) 22:29, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lightening Rod page[edit]

Remove the section "Analysis & Evaluations" on the Lightning Rod page, as you know it is completely biased and completely incoherent. UL isn't even "effing" unbiased as it collected for profit money to "certify" LPS that it also sets the standards for.

Do not threaten me either, but claiming I am "vandalizing" the the page or being "unconstructive" simply because I am calling out the obvious bias of this section of the article and attempting to describe in simple facts the differences between the two approaches to providing LPS. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.96.5.90 (talkcontribs) 05:59, February 22, 2012‎

This apparently relates to this reversion which I made during a WP:Huggle session, I think. I had reverted because of section blanking too hastily -- before seeing that an edit summary with an explanation had been provided. here, I attempted to undo that huggle edit from within huggle a few seconds later. I presumed that huggle had done the undo, and continued on looking at other articles. Looking at the diffs now, I see that huggle said that my edit had been undone without actually undoing it. The problem seems to have been fixed by other editors, so I'm not taking any further action on it.
I looked at User talk:70.96.5.90, intending to remove relevant warnings and saw two warnings there from me and one later warning from another editor. I looked at the diff for that later warned-about edit, and I agree that the warned-about edit was improper. I've left the talk page unedited. Talk:Mount Kitanglad[edit]

You may be interested in my recent posts at Talk:Mount Kitanglad. They are more or less in response to a concern you had about a year ago with the article. Also, there are some related posts at Talk:Mount Dulang-dulang. I haven't nailed down the problem yet. If you have any more information that would clear this up, that would be great. Thank you.--Racerx11 (talk) 20:27, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I have responded on the article talk page. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 00:34, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the response and I will keep your suggestions in mind. Please keep in mind for my sake that I have spent several hours delving extremely deep into this issue. I must have read through over a dozen external articles alone in the process. It is entirely possible that I have not quite reeled myself back up and out of that mindset enough to engage in a coherant conversation on the topic. If my reply at the talk page seems bazaar or disjointed or anything like that, then this is probably the reason and I apologize for that. Particularly since I had asked you to talk to me about it.--Racerx11 (talk) 03:35, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know the feeling. More comment on the article talk page. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 07:20, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a moment to review my proposed changes at Talk:Mount Kitanglad and feel free to comment or suggest improvements. Thank you.--Racerx11 (talk) 02:47, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your suggested version, I will probably use a variation or our two later tonight when I go live with the edits, then we can resume normal editing practices. I have one question: Would you mind if I refactor your latest comment at Talk:Mount Kitanglad by placing it into the section 'Proposed changes to this article', just for ease of editing and readability in any future discussions?--Racerx11 (talk) 21:33, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just to inform you that I have made the live edits at the two articles Mount Kitanglad (actually used your draft which was an improvement on mine) and also at Mount Dulang-dulang (may need a once over or a re-wording in the note as I wrote it out rather quickly). Feel free to make any further edits. You have been extremely helpful in the discussions over the past several days, far more so than I would have expected from any editor on a matter such as this. Your input, invaluable!--Racerx11 (talk) 03:57, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've commented on the article's talk page. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 23:18, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Chernobyl[edit]

[1] What failed verification? I searched the PDF (nb:old link is now working, while new link is 401) and although the PDF does not have the same table, I was able to confirm some of the measurements with text search (try: "room 712", "Gidroelektromontazh"). --hydrox (talk) 23:17, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't recall the specifics of the tag placement, but I've just rechecked. The http://dodreports.com/pdf/ada335076.pdf web page which I tagged {{fv}} is now a {{Registration required}} page for me. The URL cited has been changed to http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA335076&Location=U2&doc=GetTRDoc.pdf since I placed the tag. That page loads very slowly for me and I haven't tried to verify the info in the table there. Based on your info that some of the info in the table can be verified there, I've removed the tag.
FYI, neither http://dodreports.com/pdf/ada335076.pdf nor http://dodreports.com/ ever complete loading for me. I get a popup registration form on both those URLs, but neither web page ever completes loading. I'm located in the Philippines and have noticed that it is not uncommon for me to be unable to access some US Govt web pages. I'm guessing that these US Govt web pages have access from outside the US blocked, either generally or selectively. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 04:43, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I also get 401 authorization required (a standard HTTP error message) on http://dodreports.com/ . This opens a popup window asking user to provide credentials in most browsers. I am accessing from Finland. I think it might be just a server misconfiguration error. Mind you I changed the URL of the document to http://handle.dtic.mil/100.2/ADA335076 . --hydrox (talk) 16:32, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions in Jessica Sanchez article as you did with these edits [2] and [3]. I look forward to working with you and learning from you as well. - SyncSeth (talk) 06:35, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was just taking a quick look at that article to get some information, and fixed a couple of things which happened to catch my eye. It wasn't intentional. I remember looking at that talk page from my watchlist -- this was probably a misclick. Thanks for the cleanup. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 01:19, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Benigno Aquino III[edit]

Hello, you stated already in November 2010 the problem with external links. Just look at the section "Presidency" which contains many external links. It gives a miserable impression to the outside-Filipino readership (which Wikipedia certainly has). Sincerely yours, 49.145.85.9 (talk) 08:35, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just give you an impression:

"On March 14, 2011, Aquino signed Executive Order No. 29, authorizing the Civil Aeronautics Board and the Philippine Air Panels to "pursue more aggressively" the International Civil Aviation Liberalization Policy.

On March 14, 2011, Aquino also signed Executive Order No. 30, transferring the Land Registration Authority (LRA) from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

On July 25, 2011, at the Batasang Pambansa, in Quezon City, Aquino delivered his second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

On August 4, 2011, Aquino left the country unannounced to hold unprecedented talks with Murad Ebrahim, chair of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), in Tokyo, Japan.[115]"

That is not really nice to read. And it is unique in Wikipedia. I wouldn't be proud of that distinction. 49.145.85.9 (talk) 08:37, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, see the lead sentence of WP:EL: "Wikipedia articles may include links to web pages outside Wikipedia (external links), but they should not normally be used in the body of an article. ...". Those aren't links added by me, of course; it takes quite a while for new editors to discover, read, and start following Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines; some never do. Perhaps I'll take a look at doing some cleanup for the Benigno Aquino III article, though. For a real mess, look at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#Lots of articles with outdated info. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 21:22, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"but they should not normally be used in the body of an article". It should not be normally used in the body of the article at it is clearly stated in the policy. That is the crux. That is what some users here don't (want to) understand. Perhaps those external links can be changed to reference notes. But anyway, at least we agree on one point that that article should be really cleaned up especially when it comes to the Philippine president. 49.145.85.9 (talk) 03:47, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WP:SOFIXIT. I understand and agree with the guideline and I didn't put the inline links there. I would fix it (and still might if I have the time and the innclination to spend it on that), but I have other things to do. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 07:02, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you are willing to take responsibility for verifying the sources, it's a good edit. The anon frequently misquotes sources. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 07:36, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PIA Scarborough[edit]

The PIA source was published on 26 April. Our 25 April edition. It's a direct copy paste. CMD (talk) 11:43, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RS says, "Questionable sources are those with a poor reputation for checking the facts, or with no editorial oversight." Are you asserting that the Philippine Information Agency (an official organ of the RP government) has a poor reputation for checking the facts, or has no editorial oversight?
The PIA article to which you object does appear to contain some info copied from Wikipedia. That information seems to have been inserted in the WP article, then without support, in this 17 April edit. It occurs to me that the PIA may have picked that information up from WP for their 26 April article and fact-checked it prior to publication. The information in which the PIA article is cited in support is, as I understand it, "To the east, the 5,000 - 6,000 meter deep Manila Trench separates the shoal from Philippine Archipelago." I looked at the Manila Trench article, and see that it says, "The Manila Trench is an oceanic trench in the South China Sea, located west of the islands of Luzon and Mindoro in the Philippines. The trench reaches a depth of about 5,400 metres (17,700 ft)", citing this source in support. That source cited there says, "The depth of Manila Trench is around 4.8–4.9 km and reaches the deepest point of 5.4 km." That cited source also contains maps which would support an assertion that that the Manila Trench is located between Scarborough Shoal and the Philippine Archipelago. Personally, I would consider the PIA source as reliable on this topic, but the source cited in the Manila Trench article also appears reliable and also appears to support the asserted information. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 21:58, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea what's up with the Philippine Information Agency, but this specific incident isn't just taking information, someone clearly went ctrl+c ctrl+v, taking from wikipedia for that page. It's remarkably blatant. The PIA article was used to source the entire geography section (see this edition) prior to a new source splitting it. It was due to the insertion of this new source that I double checked the PIA source. Obviously it'd be great for other sources to be used, but there's no way we could consider using a source that not only directly copied two entire sections from an article (Geography + Activities in the surrounding area), but also did that while removing two citation needed tags. CMD (talk) 22:27, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PIA has a feedback/complaint link on their home page. I sent them a personal complaint about apparent blatant plagiarism. I'll post an update here about feedback received. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 08:46, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Coverture[edit]

Unfortunately, the non-Dickens uses were completely and utterly irrelevant to the topic of Coverture. In any case, Dickens seems to have greatly popularized the expression... AnonMoos (talk) 01:55, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't argue with that. I see that your edit changed the prior claim of "originates" to "was popularized by", so that's OK. Your edit, however, removed the supporting cite I had supplied. Per WP:V, all quotations require citation of a supporting source. I've added the supporting cite back in, mentioning only the pages which refer to Dickens. Cheers. Zamboanga Peninsula regional center issue[edit]

Hi there! In my most recent edit in the Philippines article, I referred to a new section that I made in Zamboanga Peninsula, specifically on the issue of its regional center. I looked around for sources and references in order to clarify the issue.

While you cited that the RDC chose Zamboanga City as the new RC in March 2011, this is merely an endorsement and is not immediately executory and is pending unless declared by the President through an Executive Order. My most recent source (August 15, 2011) tells that the National Economic and Development Authority does not consider Zamboanga City as the RC but rather the commercial and industrial center.

In my edit summary here, I stated that Legally, Pagadian is still RC as per EO 429 (upheld in MC75 s. 2004). MC11 s. 2010 only stopped the transfer of reg. offices. RDC endorsement still pending. NEDA says ZamboCity not the RC to which I referred to in this edit summary to take a look at the new section I made, citing the space constraints in the ES field should I need to elaborate further.

In this case, Pagadian City still retains its status as RC as of today. Xeltran (talk) 08:03, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info, for the cited sources, and for the clarifying addition to the article (especially the working links to the sources; just the mention of EO429 would have confused me, as I would have confused that with EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 429, May 23, 2005). Cheers, Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 22:43, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[Focus on the Family][edit]

You're going to need to clearly explain your objection to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_on_the_Family?diff=503231236. I restored a few words while adding a citation to support them. Why did you revert this? 24.45.42.125 (talk) 05:43, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken a second look, at my revert and your unrevert, and I see your point. This was an error on my part during a WP:Huggle session, for which I apologize. I'll let your unrevert stand, but will opine that the placement of that material early in the lead paragraph gives it undue weight. I'm not a regular editor of the Focus on the Family article, though, and I think that is best sorted out by consensus of editors with a stronger interest than I in that article's topic. For future reference, please take a look at WP:BRD; an unrevert often leads to an edit war. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 06:36, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm not opposed to moving some of the details a bit lower in the article, but like you, I'd rather let the more regular editors tackle it. I just saw that it was deleted for lack of citations, so I provided the citation. 24.45.42.125 (talk) 07:03, 20 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding deleted Miguel A. Sanchez-Rey content[edit]

To Wtmitchell,

I strongly believe that the content, Miguel A. Sanchez-Rey was deleted erroneously. Content contained citations and links to other sites. Please reconsider as I believe that one of the editors was very ill and must have mistakenly deleted the article. I apologize for any discrepancy or problem it might have caused.

Thank you, Isaacov102

Isaacov102 (talk) 19:11, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the deleted article and reverted it to the version prior to your blanking of its page. Please note that it still contains a {{prod}} hatnote proposing its deletion due to lack of cited supporting sources. Perhaps this might be useful in identifying needed sources. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 21:56, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To Wtmichell,

Can you please restore the document again since it's been deleted by Phantomsteve and I only got your message today. I will proceed to make changes with the altered manuscript. Thank you and I apologize...Isaacov102

I have restored the article content as of 12:40, July 2, 2012 to User Isaacov102/sandbox. Note that the stated reason for the most recent deletion was "concern was: unsourced BLP". I suggest that you cite supporting sources if you plan to reintroduce this as a mainspace article. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 18:58, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Miguel A. Sanchez-Rey for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Miguel A. Sanchez-Rey is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Miguel A. Sanchez-Rey until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Hqb (talk) 06:59, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have no position either pro or con on this. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 08:15, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding deleted Wario content[edit]

To Wtmitchell, I just saw the notification that someone from our IP number had deleted content on the Wario game character page. It was my 13 year old boy who did this, but since he has autism, we have so far not been able to make him understand why he should not edit content. We encourage him to find information on Wikipedia and try to monitor his activities but as you understand it's impossible to watch him every minute. If you know any way that we could use to block him from editing, but still be able to read, we would be more than happy. In any case, we apologize for the inconvenience. Sincerely, Ivo Soltorp

A couple of ways come to mind, depending on your connectivity situation and your preferences.
First, I see that you made this edit from IP address 90.231.134.251 -- the edit history from that address can be seen at Special:Contributions/90.231.134.251. If that is the address always assigned to you by your internet provider, I can block edits from that IP address from users who are not logged it. Then, you could create a Wikipedia user account for yourself (it's free, and easy -- see Help:Registration). You could then log in to your user account for editing, being sure to log out when done. Your son would be able to browse without logging in, but would not be able to edit without logging in. If your internet provider sometimes assigns other IP address for you, that wouldn't work. If your internet provider assign the same IP address to others as well as to you, that wouldn't be an appropriate solution.
Second, and better in my opinion, you could create two user accounts, one for you and one for your son, and then request me or some other Wikipedia administrator to indefinitely block edits from your son's account. You would probably want to select the "stay logged in" option when logging in to your son's account, and take the trouble to assure that you are logged out of your account and logged in to your son's account when shutting down your computer. When the computer is turned on and connected to Wikipedia, then, it should be logged in to your son's account when it connects.
Your son could defeat either of these measures by creating another user account of his own and using that account to edit articles. That is against Wikipedia policy (see WP:SOCK, but the policy isn't usually very strictly enforced except in cases of persistent vandalism or other persistent violations of editing policy.
I hope that helps. Just leave a message here if you want me to do something further. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 23:40, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Maragtas (book)[edit]

Thank you for editing the section. I only have one objection: the giving of more credit to the American anthropologist Beyer's theory of the existednce of a document called "Margitas", which was also cited by Scott. Many times foreign writers and scholars (including those who came with the early Spanish explorers and conquistadores, often misunderstood or wrongly interpreted the words they heard from natives of the Philippine Islands. It is possible that what the Beyer refered to as "Margitas" was actually the same "Maragtas" that Monteclaro tried to put into writing. Rather than just simply underlining the American Anthropologist's theory as if it is the absolute truth, it might be better to also include a good hermeneutics about the work of the native "Monteclaro" who was writing about what he received from older folks of his province regarding their local history.

Also, it is good to cite, how and where Beyer obtained the data in arriving to such conclusion. "Margitas" is non existent in Ilonngo vocabulary. While "maragtas" is an Ilonggo word for history.--94.83.253.145 (talk) 04:58, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your feedback, also discussed at Talk:Maragtas (book)#Use by historians section. My edit was a couple of months ago, and I don't recall the specifics. I'm not an expert on the topic and probably made that edit in passing thinking that the issue was simpler than an expert would think it. If I've made an error or an oversimplification, please feel free to correct that. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 07:18, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This note is going out to wikipedia members who have participated in Burma/Myanmar name changing polls in the past. It does not include banned members nor those with only ip addresses. Thank you. Edit to Dream Act by this IP address[edit]

Must be a mistake...do not recall viewing that page, let alone editing it...Ty Rich69.171.162.249 (talk) 22:12, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't seem to be a mistake. See this history of contributions from 69.171.162.249. I've encountered this situation a few times in the past. Two common causes are dynamic IP address assignment by an internet provider (IP addresses are assigned willy-nilly to users, being reused by different users) and, in the case involving a static IP, more than one person in the household or office editing Wikipedia articles using the IP address which that household or office uses for internet connectivity. editing and citing[edit]

editing and citing
hey, im new to editing here and i appreciate your comments but the contestant i edited is actually someone i know personally so i can assure you the info is correct. my sister in law was at school with her and i know her half brother thought work. I will be adding in cites as soon as I can find the information but a lot of it is personal so i dont know what to do about that, what would yuo suggest in the situation. thanks Neilmcgb (talk) 23:26, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Regarding reliance on your personal experiences as support for content added to Wikipedia, see WP:OR and WP:V. This appears to relate to this revert. I haven't researched the details of this, but your insertion of IM.SuperDry as the name of a Korean player appears questionable. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 23:39, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, keep up all the good work with Huggle. I am just curious if you know that this happened. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley 04:37, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, that came as a surprise to me. It looks like a mis-click which I committed in a Huggle session and missed seeing. Thanks for fixing it and calling it to my attention. Cheers, Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 04:58, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit to the UDHR article[edit]

-Hello, I recently made an edit on the universal declaration of human rights page on wikipedia, i made a minor edit and put "his/her" instead of "his" property, i did this because it could be classed as sexist and patriarchal to simply put His property, because it insinuates that "she" or any female does not have the right to her property. hope i cleared some stuff up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.26.248.232 (talkcontribs) 20:03, October 29, 2012‎

From memory, without checking back, I recall that I reverted that edit to reflect what that article of the UDHR actually does say. I took your edit as a personal unsupported editorial opinion about what you believe that it ought to say. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 12:12, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Statistical_independence article edited by someone else : 31 October 2012[edit]

Hello. I just picked up a message addressed to me (or at least, an IP address attributed to me) when I accessed this page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistical_independence

I followed the link to here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:95.147.118.138&redirect=no

I did not edit the page in question at all. I suspect that what has happened is down to my IP address being on dynamic allocation, to avoid problems we have had in the past. So the given IP address had been allocated to someone else at the time.

LotusElite (talk) 13:09, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why this was placed on my talk page; it appears to concern this edit and this talk page message. Another editor has responded at User talk:LotusElite. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 02:15, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for second inspection of the La Luz del Mundo[edit]

Hello, it's me again. I hope this message finds you well. Sorry to request your attention back on this page, but two users have for the past few months been complicitly reverting some or all of the content of my edits, to the point where it's become problematic and discussions just don't help anymore. I can't contribute a single thing without having both users bombard the page with dozens of revisions like so, distorting my edit to the benefit of the church. Discussion regarding these edits starts here .

Could you look into possible issues regarding WP:TAGTEAM, because both users (Fordx12 and Ajaxfiore) are increasingly turning my revisions to look more like this, and I especially drew the line when one user violated the 3 revert rule this morning. For the sake of being the better person, I've abstained from further editing/reverting regardless of my justifiability, until this serious issue is addressed. I've also contacted another admin for additional input.

I would immensely appreciate your valuable insight in regards to this matter, thanks! RidjalA (talk) 21:40, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not focused on dealing with specific cases, and I'm busy on other things both in Wikipedia and in WP:Real Life. You'll probably get better results from an admin who is focused on such areas. I suggest that you read WP:GAIV and report this at WP:AIV. Hope that helps. 22:01, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Bakers union edit[edit]

If you read what I wrote then you will clearly see that it was nothing but pure fact. Please keep your OPINIONS! to yourself. What I wrote constitutes a legitimate addition to Wikipedia and complys with the spirit of the site and its intended use, period! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dorkonaspork (talkcontribs) 12:32, November 17, 2012‎

This concerns my revert here. I did not and do not challenge the factualness of the information you inserted. However the opinionated presentation of those facts was inappropriate for article content in Wikipedia's editorial voice. You should opinionate in a blog somewhere, not in a Wikipedia article. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 04:47, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I made a subsequent edit to this article here. Feel free to improve it. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 05:44, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Skyline High School[edit]

Hi Mitchell. I would first like to apologize for any inconvenience my edits on the Skyline High School page has caused. However, SC12 is a very important event, especially since this high school was the very first to compete, in a college competition. What follows is a possible redo of my previous edit; please tell me if it needs to be improved to be on the Skyline High School page. Thanks.

Skyline garnered much attention in November of 2012 for being the first high school in the world to participate in SC’s Student Cluster Competition[1], in the LittleFe Track. They took home an honorable mention for "coming out of nowhere and taking a significant lead."[2] They competed against other universities, including the University of Utah and Slippery Rock University from Pennsylvania.

Hi. It looks OK to me. My revert of your edit looks to have been done too quickly -- I did it while patrolling for vandals using WP:Huggle, and it looks like I clicked to revert your edit without digging into relevant background (WP articles about high schools in the U.S. are prime vandalism targets for U.S. high school students). Your wikilinking SC in your revised version helped a lot. Cheers. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 06:50, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"List of United States Treaties" article[edit]

Header Header Header Question from a new user about your added content to the "list of United States Treaties" article. It looks like you added considerable content on July 15th, but I don't see it. I'm a little lost in the process, trying to figure out where your contribution went and whether or not I can add more. Can you advise?

Thank you for all of your contributions!

Hmm... This is the diff showing my 2012-07-15 additions in three edits, one of the edits being my own, one via Reflinks, and one being a reverted removal. That material appears to still be in the article. 21:42, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

It looked like vandalism in a WP:Huggle session. Here, I've unreverted my removal of your edit and removed the warnings from your IP talk page; regular editors of that article will handle this.

Hi Wtmitchell. I've removed the "Unconventional manifesto" section from this page as it's a direct copyright violation of the party's website; please don't put it back again in the same form. Cheers, Yunshui  08:25, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This appears to be related to [this reversion. I'm not a mind reader. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 11:53, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, I understand that. I didn't for a moment think that you'd added the offending text yourself, it looked as though you were making a good-faith edit to restore a blanked section. I just wanted to ensure that you were aware of the copyvio; I assumed you weren't. Sorry I didn't make that clear above. Yunshui  11:59, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks. Sorry about being so curt. WP:Huggle patrolling tends to (for myself, anyhow) involve hasty decisions. The trick is to minimize those. Good info in the edit summaries helps there. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 12:04, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Message re. Middle High German verbs[edit]

"To know how" is a legitimate infinitive, just like "to be of use", "to grant" or "to need". "Knowing how to do things" says the same thing roundabout and breaks the pattern of the paragraph. 37.190.158.177 (talk) 23:42, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This apparently concerns this revert. What caught my eye was "to know how (to do sth)", which looked like gibberish. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 23:46, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the fixup. Vandalism patrol involves a lot of quick decisions on not too much info, and moving on with no followup. That sometimes leads to screwups. Cheers.Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 11:51, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You may notice that the Angels in Judaism page is being extensively revised. Students are working on it as a class project, and will present their work on Wednesday. If there is anything outrageous that can't be allowed to "stand" until Wednesday, you can let me know on my talk page rather than deleting the section outright.

I had reverted this edit to that article while doing vandalism patrol -- the changes to the section headings had caught my eye. While that reversion was in progress, I picked up on the fact that the edit I had reverted was part of a series of changes, so I undid my reversion to get out of the way of that in-progress series of changes. Reverted edits[edit]

Why were my edits in the article Rishabha reverted? You reported vandalism, but I just added references and changed the structure of article a bit. I have re-instated the references. Can you tell what specifically was unconstructive in my edits? Rahuljain2307 (talk) 14:59, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This apparently concerns this revert. I took another look at that revert, and see that it was clearly an error on my part. This was done during a WP:Huggle session, and probably came from a mis-click during that session. That explanation of the error does not excuse it. I apologize for the error. I see that you've added the material which my mistaken revert removed back into the article. Again, my apologies for the error. Radke[edit]

I used to be so fucked up on drugs. I was doing heroin, Oxycontin, cocaine all mixed together. I should be dead, actually. I overdosed in 2005 on Oxy and Xanax, which is a lethal combination. I took three shots of vodka and I don’t remember taking the Xanax. But when I got to jail, I just said, ‘I hate all drugs’ and I stayed away from ‘em. The title of the album is a reference to myself. I looked in the mirror one day, saw death staring me in the face, and realized I’m my own downfall. The lyrics are me talking to myself, realizing what I’ve become. I realized that instead of the drugs being the problem, the actual problem was me and that I could change it. I told myself that when I got out, no matter how I felt, I wasn’t going to do any drugs. I was afraid I was fooling myself because I’ve always been told that’s the kind of person I am. But I haven’t even thought of scoring drugs. I have no cravings or anything.

No problem. Just a further heads up, for some reason when I posted you a note and created a section ("Sandy Hook"), I can see my edit in the history but it's invisible to me on your Talk Page itself. Then, when you posted a reply, I could see it in the history again, but I couldn't see any text on your page. So in going to reply just now, I had to create a new section again, which I suspect I won't be able to see again. Do you know what the problem is here in that regard? AzureCitizen (talk)

Hello, Wtmitchell. You have new messages at Talk:Presidency of Barack Obama.
Message added 18:43, 22 December 2012 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

In this edit, you stopped AnomieBOT's OrphanReferenceFixer claiming that it had removed some content from the article Presidency of Barack Obama. As evidence, you provided this diff, which includes 103 other changes by 68 other users over the course of almost 2 months. If you look at AnomieBOT's actual edit, you will see that no content was removed by the bot at all; the content was removed by Scjessey (talk · contribs) in this edit on November 17. Anomie 15:45, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the mistaken report. I had apparently been interrupted by something after asking for a diff over multiple revisions of the article. It looks like when I returned I misinterpreted the displayed diff as a diff showing a single edit by the bot (the latest user edit in the diff, named in the username on the right-hand side of the diff). SFSlick (talk · contribs) has made approximately seven contributions in the last month, all of which involved vandalism/hoaxes. He's been previously warned twice and I just warned him for the third time. Since this is a vandalism/hoax-only account, can we get an indefinite block on this account now? Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 08:12, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I took a quick look at the edits, and I'm not convinced that such action is warranted. That user has been warned several times. If the vandalism continues, the warnings will escalate into a block. If it does not, they will not. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 11:19, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're not convinced such action is warranted? All of his edits consist of vandalism or hoaxes; furthermore, his edit summaries were intentionally deceptive in order to mask the hoaxes as legitimate edits. Is there a reason he should still be allowed to edit? This user is not editing in good faith. Just looking at his latest edits to Syriana, the user claimed in the edit summary that he "Corrected ending about Woodman's true feelings". However, the content added by the user was a hoax.[6] Please note, the addition of hoaxes from this user has not changed in over a month. If there is an upside to these edits, I would like to know what it is. He's already had two chances to change and has refused. Viriditas (talk) 11:34, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I took another look at the user's contributions. Apparently, the couple of edits I picked to look at earlier were the more innocuous-looking ones. This user has made several vandalous edits, some of which were reverted with warnings and some of which were reverted without warnings. I see that one of this user's edits was a WP:HUSH attack on me which I reverted with a warning. I've placed a "Final warning" message on his talk page regarding a pattern of vandalism. Removal of paragraph from Gun Control[edit]

I see you have reverted an edit for a paragraph I had tagged with a "citation needed" flag very recently (summary is : Reverted good faith edits by 99.242.102.243 (talk): See WP:BURDEN. using TW). It looked to me like the edit that first removed the paragraph was actually heavy handed vandalism and I had reverted the deletion to allow the original author or interested party time to provide a proper citation(s) for the information contained in the paragraph. I had reverted the removal of the paragraph as such (from my phone--hence the ip address) but you have now removed the paragraph. I have no problem with what is stated in the paragraph, and it actually fits with what is said earlier in the section (which is a lot more than can be said for some of the POV stuff that is in the article). I would suggest that the paragraph be put back in the article and left until someone adds citations for it, or it becomes "stale." Do you have any problem with that?StopYourBull (talk) 02:53, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As I indicated in my edit summary my objection was, and is, that the addition or reintroduction of this material flouts the WP:BURDEN policy point that the burden of evidence that material added or reintroduced to an article is supported by a verifiable reliable source lies with the editor who adds or reintroduces the material. When I removed that material, I hadn't read the paragraph I removed -- I simply noted that material was being added with a {{citation needed}} tag attached, recognized that as flouting BURDEN, and removed it.
In reaction to your comments above, I read the paragaph in question, and I have some quibbles with its placement and wth its content.
  • The addition of this material is as a third paragraph in a section headed "National Rifle Association Alleges Links to Past Authoritarian Regimes" (a heading which badly flouts section heading capitalization guidelines -- see MOS:HEAD). the initial paragraph in that section seems to address the subtopic described by the heading (though it looks to me like that material could use a rewrite). Neither the second nor the removed third paragraph seem to address that subtopic. Perhaps the section heading needs a tweak -- perhaps a new section heading needs to be placed above what is now the secnd paragraph of that section.
The content of the removed third paragraph seems to be asserting that some insurgencies which led to totalitarian governments used guns. The Taliban and Castro's revolution are given as examples. I imagine that citations supporting that assertion could be found, but I don't see what point relevant to gun control is made by that assertion.
  • If an implication s intended that the guns used by those insurgencies were considered legal by the national governments imperiled by those insurgencies, and that the insurgencies would have been prevented by tighter gun control regulation, I doubt that was the case. Without researching the matter, my guess is that the national governments emperiled by those insurgencies considered the weapons being used by the insurgents and the uses to which the weapons were being put to be illegal.
  • If an implication intended intended that the imposition of tighter gun control regulations against weapons which were already considered illegal would have been a useful measure to bring the insurgencies under control, I doubt that.
Whatever the point of the removed paragraph was, it would need to be clarified in the context of gun control.
And, the BURDEN policy point needs to be kept in mind.
Also, I am presently traveling, and access to internet is spotty. I may nt be abe to engage in much back & forth abut this in the near future. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 04:20, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've made rather bold changes to this article, which you uploaded (not created, as per your statement at talk:Yaakov Yitzchak Horowitz), and I wanted your feedback on the matter.

Thanks,

Hi again. I took a quick look at the edit history and see that I created it back in 2009 and haven't edited it since. As I recall, a non-WP-editor convinced me that the subject was notable, emailed me a first-cut unwikified article and some info about supporting sources; I reviewed that and slapped together a first cut at an article. If you have interest in and/or knowledge about the subject, you're ahead of me, and the changes you've made are probably an improvement. Sorry -- I'm in a bit of a non-WP time crunch here. Cheers.
