Administrators' newsletter – September 2022[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2022).

Guideline and policy news

  • A discussion is open to define a process by which Vector 2022 can be made the default for all users.
  • An RfC is open to gain consensus on whether Fox News is reliable for science and politics.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • An arbitration case regarding Conduct in deletion-related editing has been closed. The Arbitration Committee passed a remedy as part of the final decision to create a request for comment (RfC) on how to handle mass nominations at Articles for Deletion (AfD).
  • The arbitration case request Jonathunder has been automatically closed after a 6 month suspension of the case.

Miscellaneous

  • The new pages patrol (NPP) team has prepared an appeal to the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) for assistance with addressing Page Curation bugs and requested features. You are encouraged to read the open letter before it is sent, and if you support it, consider signing it. It is not a discussion, just a signature will suffice.
  • Voting for candidates for the Wikimedia Board of Trustees is open until 6 September.

Repeat vandalism[edit]

Hi vandals are targeting Dai Viet-Lan Xang War page again- you’ve helped in the past, thanks StampyElephant (talk) 01:25, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I'm not sure I'll be able to be much of a help; I wasn't too involved in that page the first time around. You should ask for help from another more-knowledgeable editor or make a post at a relevant noticeboard/venue. I apologize that I can't give you much more help than that. Altered speedy deletion rationale: List of People Who's Heads Just Did That[edit]

Hello WhoAteMyButter. I am just letting you know that I deleted List of People Who's Heads Just Did That, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which didn't fit the page in question. Thank you. GedUK  08:49, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A bit more detail. That was just vandalism, so I deleted it as such and warned them. GedUK  08:51, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. Thank you! WhoAteMyButter (📨talk📝contribs) 20:09, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Image Files[edit]

Hi. Thank you for converting files to SVG. This might not always be necessary, especially for single purpose images used only for illustrating low view non-article pages, or our Wikipedia monthly magazine, The Signpost. However, when doing so, in order to avoid appearing to be the author of a file format version of someone else's image creation, photo, screenshot or video, please consider using the 'upload new version' feature instead. You will still be credited with the new version. Also, despite the auto generated message you might sometimes see suggesting that files should be hosted at Commons, this is strictly unnecessary if the images are only used to illustrate a discussion about a process unique to the English Wikipedia (I have fallen into this trap myself years ago). Hope this helps. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:24, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer[edit]

Hi. Your editing demonstrates a consistent dedication to Wikipedia content. Have you considered joining the team that reviews new articles and passing them for inclusion? Do read WP:NPR and WP:NPP first and if you think you're up to it, you can apply at WP:PERM. Be warned - it's hard work 😉 Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:32, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for offering! I have considered it, but unfortunately I generally check NPF for stuff that really shouldn't be there - obvious CSD candidates. I'm not too interested in reviewing pages for approval right now, but I may reconsider later on. Thank you for asking, though! WhoAteMyButter (📨talk📝contribs) 04:41, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
