Automated message to bot owners[edit]

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 05:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, would it be too much to ask that you install User:Werdnabot/Archiver at v:Wikiversity:Bots to archive talk pages? --mikeu 16:29, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unreplied and replied[edit]

will the bot sensibly handle cases where there are two instances of archive code, one without dounreplied, and one with a longer duration for dounreplied? --Random832 16:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

... to look into this? Also, I wonder if there is a way to tell the bot not to archive part of the page (footer) - basically a command 'don't look below that line, your job on this page is done'.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  21:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Problem with archiving - constant isn't translated[edit]

I've asked the bot to archive to a page that includes the following in its name:

{{CURRENTYEAR}}-{{CURRENTMONTHABBREV}}-{{CURRENTDAY}}

The bot is translating the first two variables correctly, but not the third. So the (attempted) archive name ends up like this:

User talk:John Broughton/Archives/2007-Feb-{{CURRENTDAY}}

Any thoughts on the problem? Thanks. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 03:12, 26 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Is the bot down?[edit]

No one else has seemed to complain, but my talk page suddenly stop being archived yesterday, and again no action today. If you could check, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Xiner (talk, email) 16:52, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Werdna, sorry to bother you again, but the bot's stopped archiving my talk page again. I'd really enjoyed your bot and would love to see it return. Thanks. Xiner (talk, email) 01:09, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving Issues[edit]

My teacher, Xiner, and I have discovered that both of our talk pages haven't been being archived very consistantly lately. Is the bot down? Please let him or me know soon! --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 01:05, 27 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Error?[edit]

I'm not sure whether this is an error with the bot or whether I've made some kind of bizarre configuration error, but Werdnabot archived my talk page yesterday here but didn't actually add the things it deleted from my talk page into the archive. I've reverted its deletion anyway so no harm done - just wondering whether it was my fault or an error. Cheers. Will (aka Wimt) 08:15, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Werdnabot in ruWiki[edit]

Hi. Sorry to bother you, but can you tell me how to run Werdnabot in Russian Wiki?--Vaya 12:25, 28 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Werdnabot malfunction[edit]

Werdnabot was working fine until today. For some reason, he deleted the text from my main talk normally, but then instead of adding it to the proper achive, he deleted standing text there and then overprinted what had just been removed from the main talk. TheQuandry 16:14, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In Espanol (Spanish)[edit]

Hi, would it be possible if Werdnabot was created in Spanish for wikipedia es? This would be very nice, and I would use it, however, this just a suggestion, and I would understand if you did not want to.. Please leave me a message on my talk page if possible.. Thanks-Illyria05 (Talk  Contributions) 18:49, 28 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Werdnabot[edit]

Can you explain to me what Werdnabot is and why it's now in an article I maintain (David Gordon Green)? The archival comments were causing an extra space at the top of the page, and I don't really understand what the purpose of the bot is. Thanks! Respectfully, --nathanbeach 17:23, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problems[edit]

Hi, I seem to be having some problems. I installed it on my talk page a few months ago, but I can't find the archived pages. Should there be a list somewhere or something? --AW 19:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Werdnabot archiving quirk[edit]

Hello Werdna, your bot archives Wikipedia talk:Template messages/User talk namespace. A user inserted a level 2 heading in a blockquote here under {{AntiVandal}} and the bot archived from the heading in the blockquote and left the actual heading on the page (and the rest of the page in a blockquote (that's how I noticed) - link). I know it's a bit unusual but I thought I'd let you know just in case it happens again. Thanks, mattbr30 19:57, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unreplied sections[edit]

Your bot is a great tool, Werdna. The archiving is really cool, and it saves me from wading through/unnecessarily loading concluded discussions all the time. One little glitch, though. I set up archiving to not archive unreplied sections, but this diff shows that an unreplied section was archived. Any thoughts? You can verify the archival code at the top of my talk page. — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 22:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Someone added "DoUnreplied-No" to my talk page, but the bot is still archiving unreplied sections. — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 23:29, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Werndabot suggestion[edit]

In general, I wish there were more appreciation for the work Werdna has done in creating and maintaining the bot before people jump into their complaints. That being said, these glitches do require attention when they happen. Werdna, as you don't have the time to devote to tracking down occasional bot bugs, especially when you are inactive with school or other projects. I suggest that you pick one or two other users who are experienced with bots in general and Werdnabot in particular, and have them designated co-operators of the bot so that they can address these issues when you can't. (And no, I know nothing about bots, and am not volunteering.) Regards, Newyorkbrad 05:03, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Werdna, with Essjay's recent departure, his bots (all 5 of them) are now also offline and blocked, per his request. Most of his five bots (VI - X are placeholder accounts) did archiving, something that your bots also do. Would it be possible to adjust your Werdnabots to cover those archiving tasks that the Essjaybots accomplished? I realize that this may not be feasible and that you may be unwilling to do so, but I think we would all appreciate having a backup bot to take care of at least the high-traffic pages that the Essjaybots used to take care of, such as WP:AN, WP:ANI, etc. Thanks! Werdnabot: What am I doing wrong?[edit]

I unleashed Werdnabot on User talk:Dgies. It copied 22 sections to the archive but did not remove them from the source page. Then it seemed to stop archiving at all. I also turned doen the age variable from 14 to 7 but still no luck. I'm still transcluding User:Werdnabot/Archiver/Linkhere, Can you explain what I'm doing wrong? —dgiestc 20:28, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where have they gone?[edit]

It is one of Wikipedia's policies that edit summaries should be included at most times. I am sure this also applies to bots. So why are there none? It looks like the bot is now just randomly deleting sections. Simply south 15:17, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Too many mistakes[edit]

To Werdna: I decided to try to go through the list of all Werdnabot's contributions on 1 March 2007 and fix any mistakes, i.e. cases where the sections were removed from the talk page but not put into the archive. I gave up because there were way too many such cases. Also there were many cases where Werdnabot put sections into the archive but did not remove them from the talk page, something which I had not realized was even possible. You need to do something to fix the bot so that it does not make so many mistakes. JRSpriggs 04:57, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I reported the above error related to the bot deleting sections instead of moving them before.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  00:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Werdna, I'd like to try out your bot for archiving the sv:Wikipedia:Bybrunnen (Village Pump) at Swedish Wikipedia. For now I've set up a duplicate of the page for testing purposes, and all WerdnaBot pages are translated into Swedish. I'd like you to give me some directions for how to proceed, either here or (preferrably) at sv:User_talk:Knuckles. Thanks. //Knuckles 21:04, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can check on Werdnabot's status by looking at Special:Contributions/Werdnabot. As of this writing, it has been blocked since 10 March 2007 because it stopped providing edit summaries. Werdna (talk · contribs) has neither fixed it nor made any statement about it as far as I know. Also, see the notice at User:Werdnabot about another bot which performs a similar function. JRSpriggs 06:52, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Werdna has now commented: [2]. He apparently remains inactive so unless someone else can fix the Bot, it is likely to stay out of commission for some time. WjBscribe 00:27, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:UW future?[edit]

Hi Werdna,

Sorry for the blatant spam, but you have yourself down as interested at WikiProject user warnings WP:UW. There is a discussion on going here that might be of interest to you about the future of this project. There are two strawpolls on the talk pages and the second one is about the future of the WP:UW project. Now we have the end in sight we are looking at wrapping up the project and merging it with Template messages/User talk namespace WP:UTM and creating a one stop shop for all userspace templates. As you have yourself down as interested in this project we thought you may have some input on this issue, and would like you to visit the discussion and give any thoughts you may have on the matter.
