September 2014[edit]

Hello, I'm Wtmitchell. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Aqua Velva because it seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thanks. Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Aqua Velva. Meters (talk) 20:40, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You already discussed these edits at User talk:Wtmitchell Continuing to make them will just lead to a block. Meters (talk) 20:44, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am not trying to be blocked, at all, and will not remove anything else that you do not allow. I would just like to understand, how can a company only display what we want to show for our product? Please advise? Thank you. 65.51.236.151 (talk) 20:47, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The quick answer to that is that they cannot. See WP:PROMO, WP:COI and WP:OWN. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 20:56, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please. I am only trying to update my company's products, without disrupting wiki's policies. Thank you. --WelCombe (talk) 18:00, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As was pointed out to you here you cannot rewrite the articles as you wish (that's what WP:OWN means). Certainly any mistakes should be corrected, and new information can be added, but you have a conflict of interest (WP:COI} and must be careful how you edit these articles. Any changes must not be promotional. The best way for an editor with a conflict of interest to make changes is to propose them on the talk page of the article, and to let other editors make the changes if they are acceptable. • WelCombe: I'm afraid the fact of it is, no company can control how it is portrayed on Wikipedia. It is not your page. It is a page about you/your product in an independent encyclopedia. What we do here is present factual information based as far as possible on neutral third-party sources. We don't even use press releases or advertising, because they are neither neutral nor independent. And the links and images you have been removing are an important part of our presentation of information to the reader. If there is a specific problem with the information we are presenting on any of your company's products, your best course of action is to post to the talk page - for example, Talk:Brylcreem - there is also a link to the talk page at the top of each article. You should cite independent references, such as newspaper articles and business publications, so that they can be added to the article when the data is changed. But if it is merely that the company prefers its own wording, I'm afraid that's not a compelling reason, and we strongly discourage editors from editing articles where they have a conflict of interest precisely because it is difficult to be neutral under such circumstances; and as an encyclopedia, we need our articles to be neutral. I hope that helps you understand why your changes have been reverted? Have you looked at our articles on the products? I would have thought the detail was attractive, indicating their significance and history? Are there any specific problems you see? Yngvadottir (talk) 18:34, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quite helpful Yngvadottir. I appreciate your explanation (may not agree with it, but I do understand). I really felt that the other responses were quite abrupt, without a detailed explanation. Let me see how we will proceed with future updates. Thank you. WelCombe (talk) 18:43, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

February 2016[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm CLCStudent. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Just for Men without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I have restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.
