Henry Kenyon Stephenson[edit]

Hello. Sorry for not leaving a source, I didn't know how to include it in the reference format used. The source I used was Leigh Rayment's Peerage Page. This is the work of a private individual but I would say that it is extremely reliable. I also checked it against some sources on the internet. The National Archives site says that he died in 1947 and this page from the University of Sheffield states that he was Pro-Chancellor of this university until 1947. Hello WOD, Your new articles bot is making a big mess out of the lists that one gets when you click "What links here". It makes it much harder to tie the Wikipedia together with appropriate links. List of islands of Scotland[edit]

Inspired by recent awesome activity (more than 2 active users!) on the Scottish island front, I have taken a brief break from editing to create the draft of a WikiProject to cover this. The number of editors is small, but the scope is large and I think it might be useful to have a bit more focus to help potential new editors get involved. There is a draft of the project page here and of the navigation template at the top of this page. UK Geography is also a possible parent, but I don't often venture south of the Highland Line, and am not sure how to proceed there - it seems a little sleepy at present. I can't see anything in the relevant guidelines that requires any permission seeking. Nonetheless, I'd like to be polite. Should it be raised at WP:SCO for example, or can it just be announced? It would ideally have a shortcut e.g. WP:ISLE, and I'm assuming that can just be created without further ado too. Any advice gratefully received. Ben MacDui (Talk) 09:02, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I considered your idea of widening the scope of the proposed project, and even drafted up something to that effect. However, in the end I have kept it to just Scottish islands. I'd rather try and do something well, if slowly, than imagine that I have time to spend looking at lochs, glens, Highland villages, battles, distilleries, the politics of Inverness etc., etc. The draft project page is still in my sandbox (above) and I've announced its existence at WP:SCO. I have replied at Category talk:United Kingdom by-election templates, because it seems better to have this discussion in a more public place ... and I have devised a possible solution. You helped calibrate the Somerset county map for the Infobox UK place some weeks back, and was wondering if you would be able to help do the same for a new Gloucestershire map (I thought it only appropriate to draw that county map asap as many articles are high profile because of the flooding).

Scottish National Party shortname[edit]

I understand your point but the party is never just known as Scottish National, it would be better to use SNP but I still think its should be Scottish National Party most of the election box templates take up less than half the page width so size is not an issue. --Barryob Vigeur de dessus 10:22, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh I see, the reason its has provoked a lot of discussion is because Scottish National is a term that is never used the Scottish Green and Scottish Socialists are be referred to as such in the media but the Scottish National Party will either have its full name or just SNP its but as you say no acronyms--Barryob Vigeur de dessus 20:30, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map sizes[edit]

Hello again Warofdreams! Thanks for the help setting up the Hampshire map for the UK place infobox. I noticed you've streamlined some of the syntax for the maps, but I wanted to bring to your attention that the Greater Manchester map (see Swinton, Greater Manchester as an example) has shrunken in size considerably. Was this your intention?

Also, I'm not sure if you'd considered automating the Regions of England field from the counties/districts? This in turn would also generate the Emergency Services (I think). Let me know your thoughts.... in the meantime I'm working on yet more maps! Jza84 13:53, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are proposals at Template talk:Infobox UK place to amalgamate the Isle of Man (and possibly, the Channel Islands into the infobox syntax. You're very strong at editting templates and seem to know what you're doing - I wondered if you would be able to take a look at the proposals under the heading "Isle of Man" near the bottom of the talk page and see if you think this is a good idea. Hello again! Thanks for the reply. I did wonder where you had got to, but it is great to see you return. There certainly is something you could take a look at to benefit the infobox and project - I've broadly been able to merge the Isle of Man into Template:Infobox UK place, but I haven't figured out how to automate the "Ambulance" field, and we're only able to display a map using a manual "map_type=" field too.
There's a couple of Manx transclusions, including Douglas, Isle of Man, Laxey and Castletown (I think they look good!). Not sure if you'd be able to try to improve upon my syntax coding though? Jza84 12:33, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Old Whittington[edit]

Thanks for the template for Old Whittington. The article was prompted by finding the picture on Flickr so between the three of us we have created a very good stub. If you get the urge to do more for other Derbyshire villages then we'll meet again. Oldest sitting member[edit]

Thanks for info. I'd wondered about this when I read that Piara Khabra had died and had held the title, my curiosity was piqued until I found that Ian Paisley was his successor: when I noticed the "Baby of the house" successor box on Jo Swinson's page I thought it would be appropriate to add this (but didn't have much info to offer!). Have now incorporated all this info. Looking at your list of interesting data, I wonder whether you've got anything about "highest 3rd party % vote"? - ie 3-horse race. I saw that there is already a User:Kronin but I also saw that he hasn't done any edit since when he created his account (April 23). Categories[edit]

Hi WoD! Could you please offer some advice on the use of Categories and Sub Categories? There has been a bit of a problem on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal article, with users removing and putting back categories depending on how they feel things should go. Specifically category:Canals in Tameside, Category:Canals in Oldham, which are both sub categories of Category:Canals in Greater Manchester and Category:Canals in West Yorkshire, both of which are again sub categories of the main Category Category:Canals in England. I read through Wikipedia:Categorization and subcategories for some guidance and concluded that rather than have this continual swapping around it would be better to follow the guidelines and simply have Category:Canals in England, which I did. However this has now been reverted by User:Mayalld to replace the sub and sub-sub categories back on the article. Rather than simply revert his edit I would appreciate it if you could take a look and see which of the two options would be most appropriate. Richard Harvey 15:54, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dubh Artach map[edit]

Dubh Artach previously had a non-standard infobox. With the standard one the locator map (see Talk:Dubh Artach) produces some hieroglyphs from the template. Do you know how to fix this, or perhaps someone who can? Ben MacDui (Talk) 09:45, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
