Speedy deletion nomination of Wethersfield illinois[edit]

A tag has been placed on Wethersfield illinois requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://livinghistoryofillinois.com/pdf_files/History%20of%20Henry%20County,%20Illinois,%20Its%20Tax-Payers%20and%20Voters,%201877.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. @JJMC89: The material in the article you (WH Buff) created clearly came from a source that claims copyright. While there may be a way to contest that claim there's an easier solution; the material can be found at the following reference which is in the public domain:

History of Henry County, Illinois: It's Taxpayers and Voters; Containing Also, a Biographical Directory, a Condensed History of the State; Map of the County; a Business Directory...etc. H. F. Kett. 1877. pp. 137–.

However, that doesn't mean you can simply update the reference and the problem is solved. Even when material is in the public domain, it is really appropriate to incorporate large swaths of text (with the obvious exception of public domain encyclopedias).

There already is an article about the location: Wethersfield Township, Henry County, Illinois.

I think it would be better to edit that article and add a history section, writing the history in your own words but using the reference I cited above as a reference and using selected quotes in some cases where the original language may be appropriate.

If the article your created is not deleted on copyright grounds it should be deleted on other grounds as it is not appropriate as a standalone article. I hope you'll take my suggestion and create the history section of the existing article.--S Philbrick (Talk) 20:36, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
