Where Can I edit a template?[edit]

I was wandering through the North-American Interfraternity Conference members' sites, and I noticed that Alpha Gamma Sigma points to a non-NIC fraternity of the same name. I was going to fix the link, but I'm not sure how. I tried searching the "templates" catagory for “North-American Interfraternity Conference,” but the search returned no results.

How do I fix the link to Alpha Gamma Sigma in the North-American Interfraternity Conference box? Where can I find good info on templates and how to use/edit them?

Lastly, how does this help me thing work? I guess I'm about to find out.

You can edit templates, such as the NIC box, by going to the template page and editing it as you would with an article. Also, the help me box (which is also a template) works by adding your user/user talk page to a category (in this case, Category:Wikipedians looking for help) if the template is on it.

Ordinal numbers[edit]

Yes, you're quite right WP:MOSNUM does use ordinals, both numeric and spelt out. Many users, myself included, prefer to spell out smaller numbers (where the definition of smaller varies), in particular I see labelling centuries as numeric as note-taking style, and not suitable for an encyclopaedia. I definitely agree that smaller numbers (I usually use the <100 definition, but I'm flexible) ought to be spelled out. Although I guess I usually have only applied it to cardinal numbers. I've never heard of "note-taking style," and I would be interested in knowing if any publications do use numeral ordinals. Of course, I usually try to make the suffix superscripted in that case, but most HTML renders superscripting quite ugly. Oh well. I guess that I'll denumeralize (new word!) ordinals when and if I see them. — Vijay 23:10, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Lambda Chi Alpha Lists[edit]

Thanks for the message. Lists are a tough one when it concerns fraternities and sororities. I have mixed feelings about it. When I first started editing fraternity/sorority articles I was against separate lists but at the time I had no idea they would balloon into big articles. Recently, a separate list was created for Phi Delta Theta chapters only because I couldn't agree with another editor on the matter. In terms of chapter lists, I believe that they should have a separate list. You have to keep in mind what the "average" wiki reader wants to see and what he or she is interested in. The "average" wiki reader is not a fraternity or sorority member. Does he or she really want to see a list of 200-300 chapters? Lists of chapters of any fraternity are usually only interesting to their respective members who visit this site. In this case, a separate list would be good. As for notable alumni, this is an even tougher one and is usually fraternity by fraternity basis. For me I like looking at other fraternities and looking to see who's a famous member. I always find it very interesting and I would prefer that they remain on the main page. But at the same time I understand the need for a separate list if it becomes very long. Phi Kappa Tau has a separate list of their notable alumni, although it was originally met with scepticsm by other editors including myself. Hopefully in the future, there will be a consensus but lists really are a case by case basis. There are some fraternity articles that have a long history, trivia etc. sections, and the article could stand on its own if chapter and notable alumni lists were separate (see Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi, Alpha Tau Omega) but there others where if you took of the lists (see Psi Upsilon, Phi Kappa Psi), there's barely anything on the article. In the case of Lambda Chi Alpha, I think a separate list for both chapters and notable alumni should be done because looking at the article, the two lists are already very long. You might also want to consider adding more info to the bulk of the article, like growth, expansion, traditions, etc. As for the "catagories" of famous alumni which have been popping up, to be honest I thought it was a very ill conceived idea considering that the person who started all of them did it probably just to get his edit count up and take credit for it and really didn't do anything with them except add one name to each until I came along and added more. --† Ðy§ep§ion † ^{Speak your mind} 02:41, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In many ways, Canada has become metricated - everyone is comfortable with kilometres and litres and degrees Celsius, but we have the same frustration with units of measurement in the construction trade and in produce - these industries are diehard Imperial and I can't see it changing for decades without legislation to force it. OK, I've added ratings and ranking to the proposed template for Fraternities and Sororities, with the requirements to be found on the appropriate page. We're waiting on a transparent picture; is there anything else to be done to this template? I'd like to give it another week or so before making it an official template. Help[edit]

You said you could get a hold of a copy of the 1991 edition of Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities. I know that my fraternity was mentioned in the 1949 Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities, under the article of Phi Iota Alpha. My fraternity is Phi Sigma Alpha from Puerto Rico which shares its origins with Phi Iota, what I would like to know is if Phi Sigma Alpha is still mentioned in the recent editions.
