Fair use[edit]

Hi Triona. I saw your message at the Fair use page. There are a number of people who think similarly to what you do who congregate at Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use to try and figure out the best way to deal with fair use media responsibly. It seems like something you might be interested in, if you haven't run into it already. Just thought I'd leave a little note... --Fastfission 04:08, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lasertag[edit]

With a little work and some pictures, Lasertag would make an interesting featured article. It's a topic that lends itself to that, I think, as most people have heard of it, but relatively few have actually played it. Feezo 11:09, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry this made my life easier. moved aforementioned ugly tables to Commercial Laser Tag Systems. Wonder how long it'll last. ~Whatever~

Open Proxies Check[edit]

I noticed you keep a big list of suspected open proxies, I have a proxycheck app, if you need anything checked please post them @ Wikipedia:WikiProject_on_open_proxies/Proxy_list or on my talk page. Tawker 02:04, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Thank you very much for the barnstar! Though it is hardly deserved; I have been too busy to do much serious RC patrol these days. Nevertheless, it is always nice to hear from users who think I'm doing a good job. I appreciate it. — Knowledge Seeker 07:20, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

pgkbot bugfix greylist/blacklist[edit]

Well it's not a bug, it is very much by design that greylist take precedence. Greylist means that something has happened recently rather than being just a general catch all for some action which may have been someone else (shared ip) and may have been a long time ago (autoblacklisting for a 3RR violation say, where we aren't trying to watch for that). If someone is accidentally on the greylist they can be quickly removed with "gl del", you can also note that this applies equally to whitelist users the only users who can't end up on the greylist are admins.

I have amended the intel command for the next version to report all statuses such as greylist and blacklist.

Hope this makes sense, if there is a general feeling that this is wrong (a few have asked about this, but most seem happy with the explanation), then I can certainly look to change it. Ideally we'd be able to represent it as another colour, but with the limited palette trying to get something else which will look reasonable for most pepople is probably not going to be practical. --pgk(talk) 10:21, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. ;-) If you're keen on keeping it, I suggest you take it to AfD and argue your case. --Dweller 12:38, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WTF???[edit]

What the hell did i do??? Ikfaldu Dod 18:20, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed when you closed the above AfD, you did not remove the category template, "REMOVE THIS TEMPLATE WHEN CLOSING THIS AfD". By deleting this when closing it pulls the discussion out of the category. I have deleted it from this discussion, but if you could review any other closures you have done recently and remove the tag from them it would be greatly appreicated. This is a fairly recent change. The official policy is at WP:AFDC. I have been going through the listing in each of the categories CAT:AFD and removing the tag from pages that are closed and adding the approriate category code for those in the uncatagorised group. Don't be hate'n[edit]

Hi Babe. I am sorry. This is my first time visiting the wiki and I didn;'t think anybody could just change a page. That is insane. I was just testing it to see if someone could. I am so so so so very sorry that I may have caused you an inconvenience. I just read the messages you posted. I really did not mean to vanalize. I love the Yankees. I mean they have to make it to the playoffs and who needs vandalism right. Its just like MTV you know. I think we should not try to hurt anyone. You have such a great job and thank you. It would be nice if new people like me could be taught about how this thing works. why do you let just anyone edit in the first place. that seems like a stupid idea. Well. what is wikipedia anyways? who is wiki? well. goodnight. you should not write mean emails cause it hurts peoples feelings. Benson, 9 years old.

Wold Newton List[edit]

Could you please enlighten me as to why you believe the List of Wold Newton Universe characters is not notable or verifiable? We have listed a multitude of sources and references for the list along with a numerous links that reflect the Newtonverse and the many characters thriving within. This list is an integral part to what is fanfiction but at the same time relevant because it has branched out to regular fiction i.e. League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Star Trek, Doctor Who and of course the works of Phillip José Farmer, along with many other cross-over fiction of DC/MARVEL universes and those with the existing characters that Farmer presented in his initial work. This is extremely notable and verifiable as the links/sources and references clearly indicate, and this IS encyclopedic because it is relevant to the fictional universe of Wold Newton. Please reconsider your tags. Thank you for your time. Piecraft 23:36, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to echo Piecraft's comments. This is a list of characters who are part of the Wold Newton universe. Wold Newton dates back to at least 1972 and all of the original characters were tied together in several books written by Farmer in the early to mid 1970s. Since then the concept has spread throughout the Web, other books have been written and articles have been posted on a variety of Web sites linking other fictional characters to the original characters. There are numerous references to those articles cited at the bottom of the page. In addition, most of the characters listed are linked to other Wikipedia articles. This is one list among many already on Wikipedia -- some far more frivolous. I believe I spotted a list of people named Samantha, for instance. I would also strongly suggest that you remove your tags. --Bookworm857158367 03:35, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I feel that the entries in the list aren't sufficiently verified. Inline references would help. Given the size of the article, I really don't think a list of references at the end cut it. Also, are all the characters so listed sufficiently notable? (continued later, I have to go to work.) - Stephanie Daugherty (Triona) - Talk - Comment - 05:26, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I strongly disagree with you, particularly if you're suggesting references after every single entry, which would really hamper the readibility of such a list. Essentially, this is a gigantic family tree. Where the connections are known, they're listed as such. The characters are linked to other Wikipedia articles so people who are interested can learn more about them. The point of the concept is to explain similarities in the appearance or personality or actions of different characters by showing a family connection. Where historical characters have been added, they're written about in a fictional context. Example A: Fictional detective Nero Wolfe resembles the brother of noted detective Sherlock Holmes, so some 40 years ago one book postulated that Nero Wolfe was the son of Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler. Since there was a father-son connection between Wolfe and his partner Archie Goodwin, the same author speculated that Archie is Wolfe's nephew and Wolfe's similar in appearance best friend Marko Vukcic must be his twin brother and Archie's biological father. In the Wold Newton universe, Wolfe is now considered Holmes' son and Archie is considered Wolfe's nephew. That family link has been expanded upon by other published books and Wold Newton journal articles. The "notability" of relatively minor characters, such as Archie Goodwin's mother Leslie Goodwin, who was mentioned in passing in a couple of the Nero Wolfe mysteries and never actually appeared in one of the books, is simply that she links Archie to Marko Vukcic and to Nero Wolfe. If you remove her, that connection is lost, just like it would be lost if you removed anyone's unknown mother from a family tree. The main article "Wold Newton family" does give an overview of this concept. The paragraph at the top stating that it is a list of characters who are in the universe is self explanatory. The links at the bottom of the page are to Web sites, books and articles on the Web where the family trees are expanded upon and further explained. This is a well-established concept, one that has been published and continues to be expanded upon. That is why it is noteworthy. Again, I strongly suggest you remove your tags.--Bookworm857158367 12:16, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mountain View High School, Mesa Arizona and High School Notability[edit]

Regarding the article: Mountain View High School (Mesa) I understand your point, I have actually been looking at various pages for US High Schools, some are quite interesting some have even less information than this one. I am curious what you would consider adequate for notability. This whole idea of having wikipedia entries for High Schools is something I have not thought much about before. On cursory inspection by google this particular school seems to be locally notable in sports with a prominent football rivalry with Mesa High School. Do you think upgrading this page to the level of the Mesa High School page would be adequate, or would you suggest deleting that one as well? I am not in anyway trying to be snarky, I just think that this is an interesting matter that merits discussion, and has pretty wide ramifications regarding many other wiki articles. Moheroy - Talk - Comment 11:26, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you had prodded Mountain View High School (Mesa) for failing to show notability, and that another editor had removed the prod. The general rule is that all high schools are notable. In this case, the article is correctly flagged as a stub, and I hope that someone will expand it. The current version of the article is still better than the first version, which can be found here. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 12:35, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What in your opinion needs to be sourced, other than the majority of the article which is pulled from the linked press release? Lambertman 23:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. I'll keep my eyes open, but info is pretty hard to come by. Thanks for the communication. :) Lambertman 18:52, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism of Wally World[edit]

I agree with you in principle, but the fact is Wal-Mart is a major multi national company, and as such it gets into lots of trouble, it will be impossible to delete the criticism article and move the important info to the main article. Why?? Where do we draw the line, which lawsuit or criticism is not important enough? I wish you luck on your crusade, as I think its valid, I just can't see how it can really work.
