Strike through on username[edit]

Hey - I'm happy to help with this, but could you elaborate on where the personal tools menu is? Thanks! FireFoxT • 15:39, 5 March 2006

Thanks for you quick reply. When I log-in, the 'Personal tools' is in the menu on the left of the page. I think I may have accidentally started the process of starting a new page in my Username. Dave 15:50, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm I'm not sure about this at all I'm afraid. It might help if you create your userpage, so try doing that. FireFoxT • 16:10, 5 March 2006

I worked out that I needed to create my userpage as you suggested. This seems to have done the trick thanks. Dave Smith 16:57, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! FireFoxT • 17:16, 5 March 2006

National Workers' Union (Trinidad & Tobago)[edit]

Hi TriniSocialist. I noticed your new article National Workers' Union (Trinidad & Tobago), and I made a few changes. I removed most of the text because it appeared to be a direct copy from [1]. Not a big deal, but it is a copyright violation, and can't be used on Wikipedia. I added the standard union infobox, and categories to the article. If you're interested in labour you might find WikiProject Organized Labour useful. Let me know if I can be of any help. Cheers. --Bookandcoffee 15:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting back to me TriniSocialist. I certainly didn't want to scare you off from contributing. It is great that you are interested, and we can definitely use more contributing editors in the Caribbean. Would you have access to more info about the NWU? Things like membership, international associations (are they a member of the Caribbean Congress of Labour?) History is also another welcome addition. My read of the website is that they are just setting up - who is setting it up, what are the political links? - These are just my questions, but if any of them interest you, they would be a great addition to the article. Cheers. Chris --Bookandcoffee 01:02, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's no problem. I'm just getting to grips with some of the technicalities. I've just made a point of acquiring a list of Trinidad and Tobago trade unions and will gradually add these over the next week or so. If I can find the time I might try and do an article on labour law in T&T if that would be of interest. Dave Smith 01:42, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

National Trade Union Centre[edit]

I looked at NATUC this morning before work, and it looked very strange to me as well. I've had coffee now, and I see what the problem was:). When you added Robert Giueseppi you added him as people= Robert Giueseppi, President, but the next line also said people= Vincent Cabrera, General Secretary - which efectively replaced the first info that you had placed into the "people" variable. Take a look how it is written now. That lets both names appear, but on seperate lines. --Bookandcoffee 18:52, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I noticed that and have used it to make some additions to NUGFW and NATUC. Dave Smith 00:47, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. (BTW, as far as where to reply? Some people reply on their page, others - like me - reply on the other person's page. It's really up to you, people are used to either method. )--Bookandcoffee 01:38, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK .. thanks. Dave Smith 01:43, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dave. I just wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia:Caribbean Wikipedians' notice board. It's good to see more Trinis here. Guettarda 00:40, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll mark that page and keep an eye on it. I suspect my main area of activity is likley to be labour issues though. Dave Smith 00:54, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't actually a very active page, but it's useful if you want to contact other people with an interest in the region. If you're interested, you might want to have a look at the biographies at Category:Trinidad and Tobago trade unionists - a lot of them could use improvement. If you need help with anything (admin actions, help negotiating any of the mess of rules and regulations here, etc.) let me know. Guettarda 01:02, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I had a quick look at the trade unionists category and might come back to that. I have some information on unions in T&T which I will probably put up and maybe an article on labour law. I'm trying to work out how to put in an infobox at the moment. Any hints? Dave Smith 01:48, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no expert on infoboxes, but the best you to figure it out is to look at the underlying code. Unfortunately Infobox Union is a horrible mess of code (many other infoboxes are easier to understand), but Template talk:Infobox Union explains how to use the optional parameters. Is that helpful? Most wikicode is visible once you edit a page. However, in the case of templates, what shows up is whatever. You can find the actual page by going to Template:Whatever. In the case of infoboxes it's less obvious - for example, the infobox code is for the union template is

Workers' Central Union of Cuba[edit]

Yeah, that's a bit of a touchy thing isn't it. If I was Cuban I wouldn't be too excited about that tag. The story behind it is that WikiProject Stub sorting is the project that manages the "stub" tags you see on the bottom of pages. They try to keep things orderly by giving guidelines about the tags. Unfortunately, right now there is only a North American NorthAm-labor-org-stub and a South America SouthAm-labor-org-stub tag. Central American articles have been placed in the NorthAm tag because the stub project wants to see around 60 articles which need the stub before a new one is created. If you are interested in creating a CentralAM-labor-org-stub I would be willing to help, but it will take some effort, as these things take time. The first thing to do would be to discover how many articles there currently are which could use the tag. It would also be worth discussing on the WikiProject Organized Labour page, as you might get some feedback from other editors. --Bookandcoffee 02:39, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Putting the politics to one side, it just doesn't make any sense. Adding in the politics its crazy! It might be easier to change SouthAm to LatinAm to cover both south and central America. Maybe there could then be a Carib-labour-etc. I might understand from an editorial point of view wanting 60 articles in a stub but surely it has to fit with the reality of what people understand. Changing how people see the world to fit an encyclopedia rather than having the encyclopedia reflect how people see the world does seem to be the wrong way around. I'd be interested in your comments on these points ... but in the short term I wouldn't mind trying to shift Cuba from North to South America. Dave Smith 01:36, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, if you look at the Trinidad stuff it's pretty random which template people add (NAm vs SAm), so I sometimes add the other just for symmetry. A lot of the people over at the stub-sorting project are good people - if you have questions you should ask User:Grutness, he's one of the major people over there. The have some minimum number of articles (50, I think) in order to start a new class of stubs - so all you have to do is add enough new stubs and then propose a new class of stubs ;) Guettarda 01:57, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am thinking I am too new at this to start proposing a major upheaval. Some tidying up certainly seems advantageous and I'm happy to join in. I'm not sure I would know how to lead on this just yet. Dave Smith 02:21, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Guettarda, Grutness is a nice guy, and does a ton of work at WP:WSS. I don't have any problem with shifting Cuba from North to South, but I would wonder if that is a direct step away from geographic sorting (with Cuba some 180km from the NA coast) toward political sorting. Maybe that's the way to go - I don't know - but it might simply mean solving one problem and creating others... I would imagine there has been discussion about this somewhere already. I'll talk a short look at the stub-sorting project and see if I can spot any. --Bookandcoffee 17:52, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Did you make any progress on this hunt around the stub sorting project? - Dave Smith 02:29, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So what is the key criteria for sorting - geographical or political? Or maybe we could add cultural too because I don't think Cuba looks towards North America for anything except potential invasions. The language links with Latin America are an obvious example. I can quite see this rumbling on and, as you say, we could be solving one problem and creating another. I'd be intersted to see what else you can find out though. Dave Smith 00:36, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't find anything specific. I'd suggest starting a conversation over at the stub page, and see where that leads you. My geography isn't what it should be, but I noticed that the wording at Category:Caribbean countries says - "The island nations of the Caribbean Sea in North America". That interpretation may have quite a bit of bearing on things. In any case, start a conversation. They'll be glad to hear from you. --Bookandcoffee 13:51, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Tiwulogo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tiwulogo.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:11, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Email[edit]

Given how popular Wikipedia is, adding your email address to your user page is likely to generate a lot of spam. It's better to add a link like this: email me to your page. That way you're easily available, but avoid the spammers. Guettarda 23:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice. I've made some changes. But ... how did you know that I was looking at my page? Or was that just a bit of crystal ball gazing? Dave Smith 23:51, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When I first posted to your talk page I added it to my watchlist (there's a "watch" tab at the top of the page), so when you edited your user page it showed up on my watchlist. Like any good macco I had a look at your user page... and noticed that your email was on it. Half chance, half not (of course, with 4199 pages on my watchlist, I miss a lot of stuff on my watchlist, especially these days, since I'm too busy at the start of the semester to spend as much time on Wikipedia as I used to). FITUN[edit]

That's quite straight forward. After you have started the Federation of Independent Trade Unions and Non-Governmental Organisations article you just create another article call FITUN - and the only text you put in that article is:

#REDIRECT Federation of Independent Trade Unions and Non-Governmental Organisations

Then whenever anyone types in FITUN they will be automatically redirected to the article. Is that what you needed? (More info at Wikipedia:Redirect)--Bookandcoffee 02:08, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. - Dave Smith 02:27, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah... that's where your "editor" skills come into play! If it was me, I would just make the change. Delete the category at the bottom of the article. Make sure you leave a short explanation in the edit summary, and if you think it is a contentious change, then leave a note on the talk page as well, outlining why you made the change. Maybe delete the LabourProject tag on the talk page as well.--Bookandcoffee 04:50, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, "Be Bold" seems to be the slogan of the day so I went ahead and did my thing. - Dave Smith 11:56, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

American Solidarity Center edits[edit]

Hi, Dave, lucky man who lives in a tropical climate... Just to let you know that I reverted to your version of the American Center for International Labor Solidarity. Although I am sure I disagree with you on most of the substantial issues involved in the article... I'd like you and Tjiss to get involved with me in a rewrite that will approach "fair." I noticed that over the last several days (when I was busy with "real life") that the article was hijacked first by a right-wing (anoy. editor) and then by a left-wing (anoy. editor) which made a (subliterate) hash of the whole thing. So... I reverted to your versions.. Cheers V. Joe 15:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Been a bit busy lately and so have only just seen your message. We are in the rainy season at the moment, so when it rains it rains real hard. I think I only made a couple of minor changes but I'm happy to try and contribute to this. It might be a few days before I get any spare time though. Also, I'm fairly new to making a contribution to this project so I'm not sure how you would want to go about jointly editing this page. Have you had a response from Tjiss yet? - Dave Smith 04:06, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stubbing[edit]

Hi TriniSocialist,

I noticed you recently wrote several articles about trade unions from Trinidad and Tobago. I just wanted to remind you that these should be stub tagged with union-stub and Caribbean-stub and not with SouthAm-labor-org-stub since the country is located in the Caribbean, for which there is no labor-org-stub, and not in South America.--CarabinieriTTaallkk 21:18, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, I've proposed a Caribbean-trade-union-stub at WP:WSS/P.--CarabinieriTTaallkk 21:41, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I inherited the SouthAm-labor-org-stub from someone else's previous work but I'll go back and check all the the Caribbean trade union entries. Maybe not today as I have some other work to do - but certainly over the next few days. I have got a lot of similar information on trade unions in the Caribbean and intend to gradually add these as I find time. There should certainly be enough to justify a Caribbean-trade-union-stub. How long does it take to get new stubs agreed? - Dave Smith 22:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than go through all these entries twice, I might wait until the Caribbean-trade-union-stub has been agreed and then do them all at the same time. Can you let me know when I can use this new stub? - Dave Smith 22:18, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I noticed that someone else had already done that so I changed all the Trinidad and Tobago articles, but all the other Caribbean trade union articles are all either tagged as NorthAm-labor-org-stub and SouthAm-labor-org-stub. I don't feel like going through all of them either, so I'll wait until Caribbean-trade-union-stub has been created.--CarabinieriTTaallkk 22:30, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

Hi Dave. You ask good questions. :)

Assessment department[edit]

I noticed that you had assessed a couple of the articles I posted. Is this normal? Are all articles assessed? How do you chose which ones to assess? Just interested. - Dave Smith 00:28, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is normal. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Organized Labour/Assessment department was just set up a few weeks ago, but basically we're trying to put assessments on all articles. Feel free to both add and change assessments as you wish.
When an article is changed or updaed do you automatically go and look at it again or do you need to be told that the article has changed? I'm not thinking of litle corrections but if there has been a more significant updating that might warrent a re-assessment. - Dave Smith 09:30, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking for myself, I have a pretty large watchlist that has most of the labour articles on it, so I try to check things out - and others have the same articles on their watchlists I'm sure, so changes often get noticed. But I'm of the opinion that it's worth communicating these things, as undoubtedly there are edits that fall through the cracks. There is a spot to place articles at: Wikipedia:WikiProject Organized Labour/Assessment#Requesting an assessment, but don't be shy about reassessing them yourself and leaving "Reassessed after update" or something like that in the edit summary.
Don't forget that you're now one of the people who watches these pages... what do you think? What would make it easy to notice changes to articles you keep track of? --Bookandcoffee 16:01, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Farmers' Union of Wales[edit]

I see this organisation is down in the list as needing expansion. However, this is an employers organisation not a trade union. I have deleted is from the TU categroies and stubs. The same applies to the National Farmers Union and the Scotish Farmers Union. How to get this off the list for expansion? - Dave Smith 01:48, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I ran across one of those as well. The easiest way to get to the list for expansion is to follow the edit link at the bottom right of the "open tasks" box, or you can go directly to Template:WikiProjectOrgLabTasks. Just edit the template and remove the NFU.
Done ... - Dave Smith 09:23, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Contents box[edit]

Hi. Me again asking questions. How to get a Contents box in an article? I've looked at some pages but it seems to be hidden. Thanks. - Dave Smith 02:15, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The contents box is generated automatically by the wiki software. It only appears on pages with more than three sections. You can force it to appear in smaller articles by placing
_TOC_
on the page. More details at Help:Section#Table of contents (TOC).
But without your help I would never have found this. In fact, even now I can't find it except by going through the link you have given. I've looked through all the FAQ's and Help but to no avail. Frustrating ... but thanks for the directions though. - Dave Smith 10:00, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hope that helps. Cheers. Chris --Bookandcoffee 08:33, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

International Labour Organisation[edit]

It's a bit sad isn't it. I don't know of any other discussion on the ILO, are you thinking of working on it? Hey, would you like to write an "In Brief" summary for it? (don't mind me - I'm just trying to flog this new idea ! :)--Bookandcoffee 22:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have it on my "to do" list. This will take probably a week or two before I can find the time to do a respectable job though. What do you have in mind for an "in brief" as comapred to the "real thing"? - Dave Smith 23:40, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm ... I've just clicked on your "in Brief" so I'll read that and let you know if I'm still confused. In too much of a hurry tonight!. - Dave Smith 23:46, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, nice summary - I think it reads really well. What do you think about the idea? Do you think it might be something worth using on a larger basis? --Bookandcoffee 02:57, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fuh sure (that's Trini for 'yes'). I got this down to 140 words so it was a nice test of writing skills. If the introductory paragraph of the article is good it might be a bit difficult to write something different although it should be possible. Have you had any feedback from anyone else about this?
I didn't mean to do this tonight but got tempted. Now I have to find time to do the work I was supposed to do!! - Dave Smith 03:07, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've had another look at the ILO page and started to think about how to edit it. I have a feeling it will be fairly dramatic. What is your view about keeping or deleting the criticism of the ILO (on Haiti and the core Conventions)? Also, I notice that the article appears to have been translated into a whole host of languages. Is this something automatic or would I have to take some action to stimulate this? - Dave Smith 03:44, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I’ll look forward to seeing your changes.
As for keeping or deleting the criticism… this is an area of Wikipedia that I’m still trying to come to grips with. The Haiti section has been deleted at different times, and then restored. I restored it myself once [2] because it had been deleted without any comment or discussion. I don’t have a problem with any of it going/changing, but you might find it will crop back up. (I don’t think that should change your decisions – just be aware that it may happen). I think the Haiti section might be related to the ongoing saga at the ACILS page. I wish I knew how to negotiate these political interests, but I don't. I don't have the background knowledge for it. (a similar example is at CUPE)
The Interlanguage links pretty much take care of themselves. They link to the other languages, but there is no action that occurs between them other than translation efforts.--Bookandcoffee 16:10, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have in mind a way of dealing with the critical areas and have already stated to sort out an outline structure for the article. I wish I didn't have so much other work that I have to do (that acutally pays my wages) because I am getting quite intrigued about how this is going to work out. - Dave Smith 21:20, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When is a stub not a stub?[edit]

I was wondering when an article ceased to be a stub. For instance, the original article on James Manswell was really just a holding page and clearly a stub. But, whilst recoghnising that any article is capable of being expanded and improved, does the major re-write that I did make it now not a stub? To stub or not to stub ... that is the question! - Dave Smith 09:52, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's a perennial question around here. In my opinion, people tend to leave stub tags on articles longer than necessary. I think they're afraid that they're making too strong of an statement that the article is "finished" in some way if they remove the tag. I would agree that James Manswell isn't a stub anymore. More details at WP:STUB.--Bookandcoffee 14:15, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Two solid paragraphs and it's clearly not a stub. Some people say once's there's useful info, it shouldn't be a stub. If you have to scroll (and it isn't just a list of some sort), it isn't a stub. Guettarda 15:57, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a new page that you have created. What is this for? - Dave Smith 00:09, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dave. I was doing some catching up on a few small things. This is just the talk page for Category:Trade unions of Trinidad and Tobago. I was adding the project banner (LabourCatProject) to all the categories that had been missed at Category:Trade unions by country. --Bookandcoffee 11:33, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, there’s been some similar work on the Category:Trade unions of Canada and Category:Trade unions of the United States, where we’ve started to split things out into the national unions. It’s been a bit hit and miss because there is a tendency of the articles getting moved back into the “of country” category when people don’t realize that the category is actually a sub-cat of the country. That being said, I think it’s a good idea, although I’d say you’d want to create the Category:Trades Union Congress at the same time. As for suggesting it – if it was me I’d just go ahead and do it. People will notice, and if there is any objection they’ll say (or change it back) and you’ll find yourself with a discussion about it then. :)

How to create a new category? - Dave Smith 18:39, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that’s easy. There’s a couple ways to do it, but just edit the GFTU article and put in your (as yet non-existent) tag. When you save the page (or even preview) you’ll have a red category at the bottom. Follow that link and it’ll take you right to the edit page for the new category. On the category page you just put in the categories that you want your new cat to link up to. This is what I would put, but modify it if you want:
General Federation of Trade Unions (UK)

If you remember, put the LabourCatProject tag on the talk page when you’re done, it just helps give a little intentionality to the category.
BTW, I see you made an in brief summary as well! Would you have a look at this (Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Organized Labour/Summaries#reduce to Translation summary) and give me your honest opinion? You don't have to comment on the talk page directly if you don't want to - but I'm floundering a bit about whether to push ahead or not. I'm thinking it might be better to start out using the summaries just as a translation tool. Thanks. Chris--Bookandcoffee 19:46, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gibraltar – I don’t know enough about the politics to have a worthwhile opinion. I see there is a Category:Companies of Gibraltar, so maybe there should be a Category:Trade unions of Gibralter as well. If not, you’d certainly be safe in just leaving them in the UK cat for now. They can always be moved later.--Bookandcoffee 16:34, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I had a look at your GFTU re-write, it looks good. I like the history section, and nice work on filling out the member unions. I do have a comment about the Current role section. I would be tempted to reduce or combine a couple of the sub-sections. A lot of it seems like fairly standard stuff for unions in general, (research, pension) and only really differs for the GFTU in actual figures. If these are each in separate sections, does than mean there is more unique info to be added to each one? (but I haven't had my coffee yet this morning, so take my comments with a grain of salt. :) --Bookandcoffee 19:03, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I thought myself that many of the Current Role sub headings were really only one liners. I'll put that on my 'to-look-at-again' list. Also, I noticed that my In Brief was almost as long as the History section which made me query its value as described by your original intentions.
I still think the "In Grief" (sorry, the should be "In Brief") box is useful, but possibly only for really long articles. I'm not sure that the GFTU article falls into that category.
Enjoy your coffee ... - Dave Smith 20:03, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see that the "In Brief" has now turned into a "Translation summary" but doesn't seem to take you anywhere except to Wikipedia:WikiProject Organized Labour/Summaries. You experimenting? :-) - Dave Smith 01:39, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is a little "show" button in the box. You have to click on it. :)--Bookandcoffee 09:51, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think your little "show" is so small that I have yet to see it! I am looking at the International Labour Organization page. Where yuh hiding dis ting? - Dave Smith 01:23, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ha! I didn't mean to be hiding it on you. I don't have any choice about the size, that's just the way it comes. :) Go to the International Labour Organization#See also section, and in the bottom right corner of the translation summary box you'll see the ever-elusive "show" link. (Clearly it's not very effective! That's good to know, I'll keep working on it to make things more self evident.) Cheers.--Bookandcoffee 01:35, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nah man, it ent der. (Translation without a translation box - "No, it's not there"). I found the Translation summary box OK but there is nothing showing up as a "show" link. I was expected to see something like the "help/edit" link that was on the previous "In brief" box. I am wondering whether it might be a browser issue. At the moment I am using Firefox 1.5.0.1.
Huh. I wish I knew what to tell you. I'm using Firefox as well. v 1.5.0.7, there can't be that much difference in the versions. Let me dig around, and I'll see what I can find out. --Bookandcoffee 02:32, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely strange. I am right in thinking I should be seeing the same as "help/edit" in the previous box? - Dave Smith 02:47, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. If it was there you would have found it. I'm guessing there's some wrinke in the software. I see by the Wikipedia:Catalogue of CSS classes this function (listed as "NavFrame" in the classes section) is "Used by the experimental Dynamic Navigation Bars code". Experimental always makes me nervous! --Bookandcoffee 03:03, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In software for sure ... - Dave Smith 04:07, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A bit of a re-write of the 'Current Role" section. - Dave Smith 12:29, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you can fix this article. Its got some obvious cut-and-paste mistakes. Djegan 12:09, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trinidad and Tobago Unions[edit]

I think I have now posted up all the current trade unions in Trinidad and Tobago. Most of them are stubs (except the one on TTUTA. I really should have been doing something else this evening but got a bit carried away. - Dave Smith 03:30, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 • Wow, you were busy, that's very cool. I popped the TTUTA article into the Oct 24 AOTD spot for the portal - you should think about putting a sentence together for the Wikipedia:Did you know section on the main page.--Bookandcoffee 08:35, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation in The Work Foundation[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on The Work Foundation, by Crimethinker (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because The Work Foundation is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting The Work Foundation, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 16:22, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just created this page, you may want to check it out, the Caribbean is not an area very familiar to me, you may have some things to add/correct. --Goldsztajn (talk) 13:40, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. What you have put up is a good basic entry. I can't add any more at the moment, although you will see that I have inserted a 'See also' and made a link to the general List of trade unions. Apart from the teachers, the BWU and and NUPW most of the others unions are relatively small. The BWU is the dominant organisation. It might be an idea to add the other unions to the List of trade unions so that at least there is a comprehensive list of Barbados unions - even if we don't have a lot of detailed information about them. - Dave Smith (talk) 00:57, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

also, just created this page...do you know anything more about the NLC in St Vincent? I can't find a clear list of the affiliated unions. --Goldsztajn (talk) 03:45, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've added this to the List of trade unions in the same way that I have for the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados. From the additional reference you have given, it seems that the National Labour Congress is pretty dead, and I suspect that things have not changed. I don't have any up to date information. Again, it might be an idea to add the affiliated unions to the List of trade unions. - Dave Smith (talk) 01:02, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rumours of their death somewhat premature? :) The reference I included in the article says the president participated in the 2008 May Day activity...is it an in name only organisation? --Goldsztajn (talk) 12:37, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jamaica: TUC(J) and NWU(J)[edit]

Hi Dave--just doing some updating of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions page and noticed that there were no pages for the National Workers Union of Jamaica nor the Trade Union Congress (Jamaica) (the former Trade Union Council). I went ahead and created these pages, but will try to do some more work. Would appreciate if you can have a look and check the information I have there so far. I can't ascertain whether the TUC(J) is still in existence...it doesn't look to be, but I can't confirm this. This source A history of organized labor in the English-speaking West Indies (p. 42) references the TUC(J) having 10,000 members in the early 1990s, but that's the only recent info i've found. Regards --Goldsztajn (talk) 01:52, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Sugar Boilers Association requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. The article Gibraltar Labour Trades Union has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article is obviously bad named. Moreover, its content is exactly the same as the one in Gibraltar Confederation of Labour, which was created by the same author six minutes before (see this)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ecemaml (talk)

The article London Co-operative Mutuality Club Collectors' Association has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references found "it exists" name listed in a few books, but nothing else. Fails WP:V and WP:N

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Organized labour project[edit]

Thank you for joining the Organized Labour project. I've been a participant in the project since 2006 and am helping with a revival of it. As part this we are introducing a new membership system, which will help with communications among participants. This involves creating a membership file for each participant within your user space (you can see an example of my membership card here: User:Goldsztajn/WikiProjectCards/WikiProject Organized Labour). This system is already in operation within a number of wikiprojects (such as Women in Red and Medicine). You will not have to do anything, myself or someone else from the project will create the relevant file within your userspace. However, I am conscious that it is not polite to change an editor's user space without notice. If I don't hear from you in the negative, I will go ahead with making the change after the 18th of January. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Many thanks for supporting the project, in solidarity, --Goldsztajn (talk) 11:21, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
