Thank you, Sam Sailor! Trankuility (talk) 11:19, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Trankuility. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Television works about intersex, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ★Saurabh P.  |  ☎ talk 17:07, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Compulsory sterilization of the intersex. October 2014

Hi, this is from the World Health Organization report on page two and seven.

Intersex persons, in particular, have been subjected to cosmetic and other non- medically necessary surgery in infancy, leading to sterility, without informed consent of either the person in question or their parents or guardians.

Children who are born with atypical sex characteristics are often subjected to cosmetic and other non-medically indicated surgeries performed on their reproductive organs, without their informed consent or that of their parents, and without taking into consideration the views of the children involved.

Publiceditz (talk) 03:18, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi there, thanks for your comment. You're correct that the word "cosmetic" appears there, but so does the word "and". It is the "other" surgeries that are contentious when talking about Compulsory sterilization. Trankuility (talk) 04:46, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Why are you altering animal articles?

Why did you change intersexual to intersex for articles on animals? This is a biological term and should not be blindly subject to find and replace. The definition for intersex is not the same as intersexual in all cases. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 03:09, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the message. That's actually the only instance where "intersexuality" appears in an animal with a link to the article "intersex". The article "intersex" is about humans. I understand that there is a difference between hermaphroditism and intersex, but not between "intersexual" and intersex - except for more current usage. Removing the link to a page about humans might resolve your concern? Trankuility (talk) 03:14, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
True, but it is not the only one you've made the change to. This edit is pretty drastic, but and another is this edit. You do highlight an interesting issue. The intersex article has gone to be entirely human-related. It shows a hole in our coverage and a gap which exists that may be more difficult to correct later. Hmm, I thank you for pointing out the page issue - but I do not know how to fix it! Just consider the infrequent use in your edits - it may be best to have intersexual remain for biology articles, but it does not actually resolve the link resolution. At best it preserves the prose and little else, just consider those article's usage. Anyways, keep up the fixes, was just wondering as to why it was done. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 03:23, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that, and apologies for forgetting the other 2 articles. The Fisherian runaway article appears to be using the language in a completely different manner to anywhere else, and might simply be better off with no link. Trankuility (talk) 03:27, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Ah, that would work as well. So I leave it to your judgement on this. Thanks for all the work you do. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 03:30, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback, it helps. And thanks for the work you do. Trankuility (talk) 03:33, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Collaboration on the LGBT(I) Rights in the US page?

Hi Trankuility, I'm Tenor12 (talk) 06:24, 24 July 2015 (UTC) and I have been working on the LGBT Rights in the United States page as an activist/editor--most particularly in the movement Goals section. I would like to help make the article intersex-inclusive, but I don't want to add things without knowing for sure how to do so as I am not intersex (I think that would be called dyadic, but I'm not sure.)

I am wondering if you are intersex and/or are knowledgable about intersex human rights to help and if this project is acceptable to the intersex community and if you would be willing to help work on the article.

(If so (on the first question), I am sorry to out you--my thinking was that a username protects a person's location/identity) Tenor12 (talk) 06:24, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Tenor12 and thanks for the suggestion! I've had a go at summarizing the rights issues on the Intersex human rights page, based on a recent report by the Council of Europe. It appears that there are actions on some of those areas of concern in some countries, notably Malta and Australia. Reports from reliable sources like ILGA Europe and the Australian Human Rights Commission have highlighted issues of bodily autonomy and/or freedom from unnecessary medical intervention in those regions but I haven't seen anything comparable in the U.S. other than press coverage of the M.C. case (see Intersex human rights#Access to justice). It would be possible to highlight key issues, but it is also important to acknowledge that the acronym LGBT is itself not inclusive of intersex. I note that the State Department has recently shifted to LGBTI (example). Trankuility (talk) 08:18, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
Awesome! I am aware that currently the wording LGBT is not representative of intersex because it is not LGBTI.

Currently the only intersex-related topic on the page is military-related (I added this). It looks like

[...] No: The right to serve is denied to intersex individuals [...] Is it Ok I put this on there? (I think there's a loophole in the policy, though, that I didn't put there)

Hi Tenor12, there are several issues with this that mean that it is not ok to put it there:
  1. there is no citation for the policy, giving evidence for it.
  2. there is no reliable evidence that this is a priority - or even a demand - of the intersex movement.
  3. adding it without these gives undue weight to the issue (WP:UNDUE).
  4. so, overall, it's not expressing a neutral or balanced point of view.

I think it should come out, and material can be added when it becomes cited by reliable sources and is not given undue weight. Trankuility (talk) 12:23, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

Trankuility, what are your preferred gender pronouns? Tenor12 (talk) 07:19, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Trankuility. :) I forgot to add that your edits were good-faith edits and I wanted you to know that. Have a good day! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tenor12 (talkcontribs) 08:39, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Trankuility,

I was wondering what your thoughts are on possibly adding an IGM ban to the "Goals" section of LGBT Rights in the US. Tenor12 (talk) 05:53, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

In response to your complaint regarding the above-referenced disambiguation page I updated it and it should be OK now if I understood you correctly. Check it out. I do not, however, adhere to the more radical forms of political correctness and shackled First Amendment rights currently in vogue, nor do I think we'll be crossing paths overmuch in terms of shared interests so I suggest we keep our interactions to a minimum. Yours, Quis separabit? 02:25, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Non relevant link?

About this edit - why do you say it's not a relevant link? This is a link making the name, Williams, go to the article for Williams, the author of the book in question. As opposed to the many other Williams's that we have pages for. How is that not relevant? --GRuban (talk)

OK, I accept that removal was hasty. Trankuility (talk) 23:28, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! Will put it back, then. --GRuban (talk) 16:02, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Intersex human rights

Hi, Talk to me on the Talk: Intersex page-- I'm trying to figure out your changes and reversions, and how to make the article clear and concise. 76.241.142.156 (talk) 16:54, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I already replied. Concise and bold are ok, but ~23 citations in sequence is no context is not so good. Trankuility (talk) 17:01, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Transgender Athletes

Hi I was in the process of making edits and my edits were deleted. I assume there was a misunderstanding. Here is my sandbox with my final edits to the hormones section I intend to paste them in, please let me know if you disagree with any of the changes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Rybkovich/sandbox Rybkovich (talk) 23:25, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Rybkovich, a page called Transgender people in sports‎ already exists, so it makes sense to use it. Trankuility (talk) 23:33, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
I agree re transgender. I did some edits to the hyperandrogeny part of the meeting. No new hyperandrogeny policies were suggested, so I edited that sentence, and added some knew info. Also there are too many unnecessary quotation marks in the article I intend to remove them, would you agree? Rybkovich (talk) 23:47, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

revert because of an edit summary?

Are you joking, bro? Seriously, that had to be a joke, right? Revert based on content. Only content. Thanks Spacecowboy420 (talk) 13:56, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

we unless you consider " She is one of four daughters born to the poor weaver couple. " to be valid, encyclopedic content. Spacecowboy420 (talk) 13:57, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

I've left a note Spacecowboy420's talk page regarding his edit warring [1]. You are quite in the right, and this information should be excluded for now. In the future when faced with this situation, if you would please, try to communicate with them on their user talk pages rather than just with edit summaries. I find it helps to slow or even stop edit wars. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 14:13, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, however I am capable of making my own judgement in this matter. The content of the user's edit summaries and messages shows otherwise, in my view - see just above. I raised the issue on an administrator talk page instead. Trankuility (talk) 22:13, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
Well, if your intention is to increase drama, rather than reduce drama, that was the correct move, Trankuility. Personally, I would rather focus on content than drama. Spacecowboy420 (talk) 06:45, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Request for an edit approval

Hi Trankuility! I hope you are doing well. I recently made an edit that involved the intersex community and realized I should probably send it by you for approval. It's regarding gender recognition. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_the_United_States#Comprehensive_summary_table_of_LGBT_rights_in_the_United_States

The edit I added is as follows: An intersex person has had her* New York City birth certificate changed to say Intersex as her gender marker. *Note: This person uses she/her/hers pronouns. Further note: Intersex and nonbinary are not the same. Not all intersex people identify as intersex or nonbinary; likewise, not all nonbinary people are intersex.[1]

Thoughts? Does this need editing? If necessary, I can back away and let you make further editing as necessary.

Thanks! -TenorTwelve (talk) 05:59, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello @TenorTwelve: it is not appropriate for me to approve anything, but you need to be aware that intersex as identity can mean many different things, but consensus definitions of intersex all are about the body. Trankuility (talk) 06:03, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
There are new-ish pages on Intersex rights by country and Legal recognition of intersex people that are based on verifiable sources. Trankuility (talk) 06:04, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Greetings!

I just added content to a previously-redirect. So what this means is that there is a 'new' article on 46 XX instead of a redirect. It may be of interest to you related to the past edits that we have worked on. Best Regards,

Barbara (WVS) (talk) 13:39, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi @Barbara (WVS): this is of interest to me, thank you. I think that the page should be renamed 46XX male syndrome (or something similar and more descriptive), as it currently simply describes the number and type of sex chromosomes typically associated with being female. It can be contrasted with 46XY or 47XXY. Alternatively, as 46XX DSD, it would be an umbrella term encompassing a number of genetic conditions andpossibly descriptive diagnoses, such as 46XX congenital adrenal hyperplasia and maybe clitoromegaly. Thanks for the notification. Trankuility (talk) 13:58, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

A move is certainly something fine with me. If you need me to do that, let me know. I've been working on some redirects to this article (check my edit history if you want to) but I will stop, and wait for the move if you like. I can still add wikilinks. It was a very easy article to create since all the content is from a govt website and attribution is given. There is a LOT about genetic variations on the NIH websites and a whole gaggle of articles can be created from this content. It might be 'fun' to see how many articles we can create on this topic. Best Regards,
Barbara (WVS) (talk) 14:14, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi @Barbara (WVS): now that I've had more time to consider your changes, I can see an overlap between your work on 46 XX and the page XX male syndrome. I've made some changes including (reluctantly) moving the page to 46,XX testicular disorders of sex development‎, but the overlap between this and XX male syndrome needs more thought, and probably more eyes. Probably the pages should be merged. In general, please be aware that medicine, broadly but particularly in this field, has changed a number of diagnostic terms due to genetic research. In many cases, there may be existing articles using older terms. Selecting which term to adopt can be tricky and some of the language is contentious. Thanks. Trankuility (talk) 01:19, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Hello again. I have just started my new semester in Nursing school and will have little time to contribute until this summer. I work hard at NOT being contentious, so I am pretty certain that I will go along with any ideas that you have at this point. Does the contentiousness come from controversies regarding past 'treatment' for this anomaly? The recent change in how this genetic condition is regarded makes it especially important because I sense a lot of different terminology being used for those born with genitalia that are not typical, phenotypes, genotypes, fertility, hormones, etc. Is this what you mean? Seriously, I just want readers to have as much information on this topic as possible AND through redirects, find the information they are looking for. Best Regards,
Barbara (WVS) (talk) 19:09, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi Barbara (WVS), I have similar issues! Contentiousness comes from current and past treatment and contention about medicalization for these many conditions. I'm not sure if you study medicalization or medical ethics at your school, but these might be interesting to read:
