WikiCup 2013 starting soon

Hi there; you're receiving this message because you have previously shown interest in the WikiCup. This is just to remind you that the 2013 WikiCup will be starting on 1 January, and that signups will remain open throughout January. Old and new Wikipedians and WikiCup participants are warmly invited to take part in this year's competition. Welcome to the 2013 WikiCup

Hello, Tomcat7, and welcome to the 2013 WikiCup! Your submissions' page is here. The first round will last until the end of February, at which point the top 64 scorers will advance to the second round. We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders:

  • The rules can be found here. There have been a few changes from last year, which are listed on that page.
  • Anything you submit must have been nominated and promoted in 2013, and you need to have completed significant work upon it in 2013. (The articles you review at good article reviews does not need to have been nominated in 2013, but you do need to have started and completed the review in 2013.) We will be checking.
  • If you feel that another competitor is breaking the rules or abusing the competition in some way, please let a judge know. Please do not remove entries from the submissions' pages of others yourself.
  • Don't worry about calculating precisely how many points everything is worth. The bot will do that. The bot may occasionally get something wrong- let a judge know, or post on the WikiCup talk page if that happens.
  • Please try to be prompt in updating submissions' pages so that they can be double-checked.

GA noms

TomCat7, you need to readjust your GA behavior. It is clearly abuse of the process to immediately renominate failed nominations at the rate you are doing it. If you do not somehow show that you understand this, and that you recognize the problems that have been repeatedly pointed out to you regarding your editing, I am going to suggest some kind of solution to the community that might involve a restriction on your ability to nominate GAs.·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 18:38, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

I will also say this. I saved your ass at ANI and at your RfC the other day by speaking out in your favor of showing you trust. You have since done absolutely nothing to show that you deserved that trust, but rather have done a lot to show the opposite. Legitimate concerns about your editing were pointed out, and instead of correcting them you have continued. This is immensely disappointing.·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 20:34, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
I'd actually go one step further and say that you should step away from nominating any articles at GAN for the time being. You're half-doing what is asked in reviews, and when you re-nominate them immediately, it says to me that you don't care about improving the article at all, you just want that icon. I hope that's wrong, but that's how it comes across, and it's actually made me reconsider bothering with GAN. Wizardman 03:17, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiCup/2013 signups

If you don't like the rules, that's fine, but they have been the rules for a while, and seem to have limited friction to a certain extent. Why there always has to be fighting about the flags is beyond me. Further, the mere fact that a rule is not enforced does not mean that it is not a rule. To use a Wikipedia example, I'm not going to demand that you're blocked if you fail to sign your posts on talk pages, but, clearly, it is a rule that you are expected to follow. If your edit summary was asking what business I have being a judge, here are some of the things I do in my role:
  • Write newsletters.
  • Clarify rules disputes, and maintain the rules page.
  • Act as a somewhat impartial voice in discussions about scoring, and ensure that ideas are given a fair hearing (through establishing polls, brainstorming threads and so forth).
  • Check submissions to ensure that people are following the rules.
  • Create and maintain submission pages.
  • Allocate pools and maintain the main page.
  • Determine tie breaks.
  • Award the prizes at the end of the competition.
  • Advertise/represent the Cup (in other newsletters, for instance, or on various discussion pages).
There are no doubt other things that I've forgotten. Frankly, bickering about flags really isn't high on my list of priorities, and it inexplicably causes friction, so I try to avoid it. Now, it seems, you're trying to bicker about how I'm avoiding bickering. Frankly, that's puerile. If you are concerned that I'm not doing the necessary, you're welcome to talk to Ed, the other judge. Song For The Asking

I admit I had missed the absence of Song For The Asking when proofreading Bridge Over Troubled Water yesterday. Curious why you reverted its addition today; I see the IP editor inserted the time of it incorrectly, and I corrected that when I re-inserted it. The song is indeed the 11th track, and in fact is mentioned specifically in the Pitchfork review, the very first cited reference, and included in the track listing in the All Music and Rolling Stone reviews, so it's confirmed. Not to mention I own the album, an original vinyl LP of it, and the song has always been the final track on Side 2. Echoedmyron (talk) 00:08, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Re: Grammy nomination

I know of no site that includes an archive of all past Grammy nominations. Over at the Grammy Awards task force we started a list of sources for Grammy nominations linking to articles that verify nominations for each year. However, the list still needs to be completed and updated. If you would like to help with this project, any assistance would be much appreciated. Otherwise, feel free to use some of these sources to verify nominations. I hope this helps! Ideally, the list would be complete and project members could just go down the line and use these articles to created many, many more Featured lists and Good articles! :) --Another Believer (Talk) 17:12, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
