You've provided no source for this image, and the license is incorrect (it doesn't seem to be the logo of an organisation — at least, none is mentioned, and its only use in an article is unconnected to any organisation).

Could you give the source, please, and change the license? --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:25, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Check the following websites:

http://www.iranchamber.com/personalities/farabi/farabi.php
http://www.islam.org.br/%C2%A0al_farabi.htm
http://www.superbeyin.com/sohbet/sohbet.htm

Sorry, I should have been clearer; you need to place details of where you found it on the image page itself, and add the correct license there.
Note that the image shouldn't be replaced in articles until this probelm has been resolved. It needs to be resolved fairly quickly, or the image might be deleted. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 20:22, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The image was created in Iran. I dont exactly know when and by whom, but It doesnt really matter since copyright law doesnt apply to Iran. IRI's costitutional law doesnt recognize international copyright law and international copy right law doesnt protect Iranian materials. The image is already all over the net so I dont see why it shouldn't be on Wiki.

  1. All images have to be given a source (see also below); apart from anything else, the bare assertion that it was created in Iran needs to be backed up.
  2. As a courtesy for other editors on Wikipedia, please sign your talk page and user talk page posts. By adding four tildes (~) at the end of your comments, your user name or IP address and the date will be automatically added. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:32, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:MullaSadra1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.

Note also that the license needs to be clarified; the image doesn't look more than a century old, so providing a source will save the image from deltion on licensing grounds too. Thank you. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:32, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As no source was provided, I'm afraid that I've had to delete the image (and the following image) in line with speedy-deletion rules. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:16, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Persian_Tiger.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Persian_Tiger.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Mel Etitis, Are you retarded?[edit]

What is your problem seriously!. Here are the websites that are using the image: http://www.iranchamber.com/personalities/msadra/mulla_sadra.php http://isl.unc.edu/ernst/cat1sub4.html http://www.sharghnewspaper.com/830208/idea.htm http://www.ehyaa.net/yaddasht.htm http://shirazcity.org/shiraz/Shiraz%20Information/Famous%20People/Mulla%20Sadra%20e.htm This photo was created in Iran and Iranian material on the net dont have proper copy right information. By your standards most images produced in Iran that are being used on wikipedia have to be deleted.(Tiger-man 21:56, 18 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

  1. Wikipedia:No personal attacks.
  2. It's not a photo.
  3. Without some indication of the copyright status, it can't be used. You seem to be saying that, because you don't know its status, we can assume that it's OK to use it. That won't wash.
  4. I've now placed it at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. If you can provide any evidence for its age and copyright status, please add that to the image page and to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:49, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please read carefully WP:POINT policy and avoid making disruptive edits just to illustrate the point. Most of images you removed were obviously old and covered by the correspondent PD licenses. You might have some problems with the image patrol people. Try to talk to them, they are usually quite helpful, only busy people, they might find a solution. Some images you have hunted on the net might be a prized catch if they were not in the reserved areas. That is life. If you are after the Iranian images, try to use

Copyright notes

Per U.S. Circ. 38a., Iran is not a participant in the Berne Convention or any other treaty on copyright with the United States.

As such, works published by citizens of Iran in Iran are usually not subject to copyright protection outside of Iran. Hence, such works may be in the public domain in most other countries worldwide.

However
  • Works published in Iran by citizens or permanent residents of other countries that are signatories to the Berne Convention or any other treaty on copyright will still be protected in their home country and internationally as well as locally by local copyright law.
  • Similarly, works published outside of Iran within 30 days of publication within Iran will also usually be subject to protection in the foreign country of publication. When works are subject to copyright outside of these countries, the term of such copyright protection may exceed the term of copyright inside them.
  • Unpublished works from Iran may be fully copyrighted.
  • A work from Iran may become copyrighted in the United States under the URAA if Iran enters a copyright treaty or agreement with the United States and the work is still under copyright in Iran.

Iran has enacted a copyright law which came into force on 12 January 1970 and communicated the official English translation to UNESCO on 20 April 1970.

Tiger vs Hyena[edit]

I wish Tiger-man would get out his camera (and possibly scanner) and upload his own images. If he continues to upload other peoples' work he might be known as Hyena-man the Scavenger. Just a suggestion! Dr Zak 17:37, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Afhh1.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Afhh1.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:41, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
