Copyright and Liberty Film Festival[edit]

Hi Thorpe79. I've been reverting your edits to Liberty Film Festival because they're inserting text which is cut and pasted from these sites, [1] and [2]. Since I don't seen any indication that the text on either of those sites has been released under any form of licence, the copyrght remains with the author of the text and so hosting it here violates the copyright of the original author, which could have legal implications. I suspect, from the topics which you have edited in the past, that are you are more than likely connected with the festival. If you are the copyright holder for this text and wish to donate it to Wikipedia the steps here should be helpful Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Ka Faraq Gatri (talk) 11:11, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Thorpe, I'm happy to help re-write the article but the sentences which have been whole sale copied from the sites linked above can't stay. Ka Faraq Gatri (talk) 18:06, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ka Faraq Gatri. There are currently two separate issues to do with your edits to this page. The first is any potential copyright issues on the sentences that you've indicated, in which case I'm happy to rewrite them so that the information about the festival is preserved. The second issue, though, is that you're also removing basic information about the Liberty Film Festival, leaving Wikipedia users with a highly incomplete and inaccurate picture of the festival. You have removed twenty three media links that reference the festival's national media coverage in the New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, ABC, etc. You have removed basic information about attendance figures for the festival, numbers of festival films screened, names of award-winning festival films, as well as the names of the founders of the festival. None of this has anything to do with any copyright issue. So, I'm happy to rewrite any sentences, but you need to stop deleting basic information about the festival. Thanks. The guidelines that I'm following for this are here. The bit I'm looking at specifically in this case is "if an older non-infringing version of the page exists, you should revert the page to that version." Unfortunately the version I'm reverting to (which is the last version without copyright problems that I can see), does, indeed, lack the things you've mentioned. That doesn't mean the article needs to continue to lack those things, in fact I think they definitely need to be added back in, but that needs to happen in a way that doesn't infringe copyright. Fair enough, Ka. I will proceed on that basis. Thorpe79 (talk) 21:25, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit to Liberty Film Festival[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you removed some content from Liberty Film Festival without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you!   Bfpage |leave a message  23:34, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My bad on that, Bfpage. I thought those external links were dead - but it appears that several are still active. No worries, thanks for the fix ... Thorpe79.
