WikiCup 2015 September newsletter

The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.

In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far Scotland Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was Philadelphia Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.

The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
  2. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
  3. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
  4. Somerset Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
  5. Washington, D.C. West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
  6. Somerset Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
  7. United States Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
  8. England Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.

The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.

Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!16:07, 10 September 2015 (UTC)16:07, 10 September 2015 (UTC)16:07, 10 September 2015 (UTC)16:07, 10 September 2015 (UTC)2601:44:C500:4040:DCC1:F3A4:5558:B96B (talk) 16:07, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[1]

Banned user is back

Hello. last winter you banned User:Skyhook1 indefinitely for persistent introduction of original research at the Skyhook (structure) article, and for employing multiple sock puppets to revert all changes. A few weeks later, in January, he used the SpaceX redirect "Space exploration technologies‎" [1] to publish his skyhook assay, and amazingly, it stayed there undetected until now. Today I repaired this SpaceX redirect but he keeps turning it into his assay on skyhooks. Thank you, BatteryIncluded (talk) 20:25, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

your opinion please...

I asked your opinion on User:Geo Swan/boatnerd, in June. In late July I moved it to article space, without benefit of your opinion. Apparently, it has been of some value to some readers. I still respect your opinion, on nautical matters, and I would still appreciate your input. Geo Swan (talk) 06:12, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello.

Hello. Are you the administrator? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mondit (talkcontribs) 19:21, 31 October 2015

Hi! I was looking for this subject person and found that his article was deleted long back in 2012. My biggest rationale for undeletion is that he was recipient of Padma Bhushan and that should automatically qualify him to stay. This was pointed out in the AfD but am not sure how much it was gauged on this factor. Turns out that subject was founder of ENT department at Nair Hospital ref and has various stuff named after him now; Dr. L. H. Hiranandani College of Pharmacy and L H Hiranandani Hospital, although that's not much notable. I would request you to undelete it as you were the closing admin. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 08:58, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

The "third-highest...award" isn't generally considered a criterion for 'automatic notability'. However, I have restored the article to your userspace as User:Dharmadhyaksha/Lakhumal Hiranand Hiranandani so that you can improve it with proper referencing before recreation. :) - The Bushranger One ping only 23:57, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015: The results

WikiCup 2015 is now in the books! Congrats to our finalists and winners, and to everyone who took part in this year's competition.

This year's results were an exact replica of last year's competition. For the second year in a row, the 2015 WikiCup champion is Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points). All of his points were earned for an impressive 253 featured pictures and their associated bonus points (5060 and 1695, respectively). His entries constituted scans of currency from all over the world and scans of medallions awarded to participants of the U.S. Space program. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came in second place; she earned by far the most bonus points (4082), for 4 featured articles, 15 good articles, and 147 DYKs, mostly about in her field of expertise, natural science. Belarus Cas Liber (submissions), a finalist every year since 2010, came in third, with 2379 points.

Our newcomer award, presented to the best-performing new competitor in the WikiCup, goes to United States Rationalobserver (submissions). Everyone should be very proud of the work they accomplished. We will announce our other award winners soon.

A full list of our award winners are:

We warmly invite all of you to sign up for next year's competition. Discussions and polls concerning potential rules changes are also open, and all are welcome to participate. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2016 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi, need some help here

ON both 49th Parallel (film) and Istanbul (film), I have tried to delete the original infobox image which keeps popping up. In both articles, I have found a new "English" version that should predominate, but something is wrong. The also doesn't seem to be changed. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 16:15, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Gulfstream G500

BR, could you move Gulfstream G500 (2015) back to Gulfstream G500, and move protect it until we have a consensus to move it? There's no need for a DAB page for 2 items. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 21:55, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Actually in this case I think the dab is appropriate - there's other dab pages for two items (Boeing Stratoliner for one) and I'm not sure there's a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for it - and if there was it would probably be the 2003 version IMHO! - The Bushranger One ping only 09:57, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
I understand your point, and thanks for your consideration. I'll probably make a move request in a day or two. - BilCat (talk) 10:23, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
No problem. I'll probably chip in my two-cent piece and we can let the grinding wheel of Wikijustice mill out a consensus (or, y'know, not, one never knows around these parts). - The Bushranger One ping only 10:25, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

James Heilman

With regard to the AFD for James Heilman, I was wondering why you wanted to give me a "minnow" for being gullible rather than a "trout", since minnows are supposed to be for less experienced editors, which I don't think I am. Everymorning (talk) 17:27, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Why the page I created was deleted?

I created Diana Khan some 20 days ago. The page had enough citations for the verification. The page got verified. The page got nearly 6000 views. Why you deleted the page? Explain. Mohd Arshad Qureshi (talk) 21:16, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Diana Khan. - BilCat (talk) 05:50, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Because in the above-linked discussion, a WP:CONSENSUS was established that the person is insufficiently notable to have a Wikipedia page. Verified does not mean notable. - The Bushranger One ping only 10:51, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

What is the solution then? I want to recreate the same page again. Mohd Arshad Qureshi (talk) 12:13, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Diana Khan

I want to recreate Diana Khan again by adding some more information and citations. Do I have to take your permission? Will the page get deleted again? Help Mohd Arshad Qureshi (talk) 21:49, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

You don't need permisison, but if you do not establish notability using reliable sources it will indeed be deleted again. You should create the page in your userspace and work on it to find reliable sources to establish notability before recreating it as an article. - The Bushranger One ping only 23:24, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Do you know how long data refund requests take? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth my time to simply recreate a page for my sandbox vs waiting for the data? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewjshick (talkcontribs) 05:12, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

I would suggest that it would be best for you to recreate from scratch somewhere else - this data will not, I'm afraid, ever be suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia. - The Bushranger One ping only 09:19, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
    • does the data even exist anymore (the pages together took approximately 68 hours to create; fortunately, I have the vast majority of it saved in Word for a sandbox, but not every single bit of it)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewjshick (talkcontribs) 19:08, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Wainwright

I'm sorry but you can't close as speedy keep an article that has been through AFD and DRV when the other side of the debate has not had a chance to weigh in. There were strong views on both sides that you would see if you review the previous discussions. Merging and redirects are common AFD outcomes and routinely included in nominations. Please reopen the discussion to allow all sides to discuss this article. Spartaz Humbug! 09:17, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

I've reopened it, however I will note that WP:SK1 states: "The nominator withdraws the nomination or fails to advance an argument for deletion or redirection - perhaps only proposing an alternative action such as moving or merging, and no one other than the nominator recommends that the page be deleted." - yes, merging and redirecting are common outcomes, but suggesting a merge as the nominator is not what AFD is for - that is what WP:PM is for. - The Bushranger One ping only 09:31, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
and if it goes to PM its the wrong venue for those users who have previously indicated they wanted to delete. Thank you for reopening this but it really shouldn't have needed to be said. Spartaz Humbug! 09:55, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Deletion review

You recently closed the deletion debate of List of ziyarat locations as keep. I want to start a deletion review of this article, and as per the policy I am opening this section to discuss the page with you. The page in question should have been deleted in my opinion because it is complete OR. The articles about Holiest sites in Shia Islam, Holiest sites in Sunni Islam and Holiest sites in Sufi Islam adequately cover all such locations and making this list as "Ziyarat Locations" is just an OR essay. Please give your opinion about this. Please ping me using the re template when you comment. Ty Regards FreeatlastChitchat (talk) 07:31, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

@FreeatlastChitchat: My opinion is that the WP:CONSENSUS from the discussion was that the article should be kept. If you wish to start a DR then I have no objection or comment to be made there - I simply assessed the consensus and closed accordingly. I will, however, note that "the article should be deleted in my opinion" is not a justifiable reason for a DR; a DR is to be done when you believe the closure was not in accordance with consensus, not because you believe the consensus itself is wrong. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:34, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
@The Bushranger: I have just found that there are similar articles, so kinda trout moment for me, I did not even provide this as rationale in the deletion. So should I wait some time to start another AFD or just go with review? FreeatlastChitchat (talk) 07:40, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
I would suggest waiting for some time. A DRV on the grounds of "this article really should be deleted" instead of "the closure wasn't reflecting consensus" is likely to be consdidered an attempt to re-run the AfD at DRV and quickly closed. Wait a few months, see if the article gets improved (and/or help improve it), and if it's still problematic, then a re-nomination could be considered. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:42, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi this is jonapa1890, We are trying to update for our boss Humpy Wheeler. You keep on blocking and its probably by confusion. If you could help instead of block it would be much appreciated Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonpapa1890 (talkcontribs) 19:46, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

@Jonpapa1890: If you're Humpy's employee, you shouldn't be editing his page as it would be a conflict of interest. If you want to add info, it must be from a neutral point of view and sourced by a reliable source. NFLisAwesome (ZappaOMati) 19:55, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
Then you need to go back to your original account and request an unblock - block evasion is against Wikipedia policy. As noted above, though, you need to explain 1. how you would intend to edit despite having a conflict of interest (which is something that is heavily discouraged), 2. why you uploaded images that were copyrighted to Wikimedia Commons as your own work (even if the Twitter image was yours, why did it say "2013" on the page and "2008" on the image page, and there was no justification possible for the "Cars" image), and 3. what manner this could be considered as relevant. - The Bushranger One ping only 22:22, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

IP long history of vandalism

BR, could you look at this user's contributions, especially those to Aegis Combat System? It looked like vandalism to me, especially the IMF bankers part, but it may not be, or it may just be a vandal trying to pretend like they're not vandalizing. Their other recent edits seem legit, but it's in subject areas in which I'm not conversant, so it's hard to tell, as competence seems to be an issue here. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 05:33, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

I looked at it and I think one more clearly-vandal edit (like that IMF one was) will lead to a block. - The Bushranger One ping only 05:41, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

This is interesting, and definitely shows a lack of competence in English or computers, or both. Block TP access? - BilCat (talk) 07:38, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
Considering that whole thing is a blatant attempt to have someone proxy-edit in a discussion the IP was (...brokenly...) attempting to participate in, yep, TPA revoked. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:42, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks again. It's good to have you back editing regularly again. Nice to have a fellow night owl/insomniac as an admin also. - BilCat (talk) 07:48, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

This sat there with two delete !votes for three weeks, and today finally two other people pitched in, and leveled the score, but with no new arguments. Why in heaven's name would you close that within hours on the very same day as "keep"?! It's no consensus at best at this point. Did you not notice this timeline? --Joy [shallot] (talk) 21:33, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

I closed it based on how I felt the weight of the arguments established a consensus, instead of simple vote-counting, with the consideration that it had already been twice relisted (and, thus, could be closed at any time once a consensus was established). I won't contest the re-opening but will express severe dissapointment that it was re-opened by someone who had !voted in the discussion in opposition to the result, instead of taking it to WP:DRV or even discussing it with me first. - The Bushranger One ping only 21:40, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
There was hardly any weight in arguments based on assertions that someone is a historical figure/subject. If we couldn't verify that the article topic is a historical figure/subject, we might as well be making it up - what if it was a hoax?
Anyway, my main procedural problem with the action was that you closed it 17 minutes after the last comment. That's just being trigger-happy IMO.
I guess the good thing that came out of this was that one of the comments prompted me to dig further, and find the actual person. It could have stayed broken for another seven years.
And, as another twist in this already convoluted story, now that the title is corrected, someone found that the text is a copyvio. *facepalm* --Joy [shallot] (talk) 16:22, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.

After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.

We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.

The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. IP user spamming a category

BR, since you've done a lot of work on categories, I thought it best to have you look over these contributions, in which an IP is cat-spamming Category:Jews on a wide range of seemingly-unrelated articles. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 07:44, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

Request reconsideration of Carlo Magali deletion

For a number of reasons I suggest that the result of the debate be changed to no consensus or re-opened. For starters, only two votes is far from any consensus and was held over a time period where a lot of people take vacations (i.e., many editors may have been away from their computers or doing other things - I know I was). One of those two votes said that WP:NBOX was note met. However, this is disputable as can be seen in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject_Boxing#Notability guidelines. As it states in the start of WP:DGFA "When in doubt, don't delete." Additionally, as one of the editors pointed out in that discussion, from a [{WP:GNG]] standpoint WP:NBOX may not matter. He was on the winning end of the fight that killed Davey Browne and that fight gained significant coverage in the Australian media (and some worldwide). As an editor in the above discussion stated, that is a factor and was not even considered in the deletion debate. Maybe the result should be delete, but I just don't think everything that should be considered was and it was not considered by enough editors. Therefore, I think it should be a no consensus or be re-opened. RonSigPi (talk) 22:37, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

RonSigPi Consensus was entirely unanimous in that deletion discussion. I suggest you read my reply to your similar message on my talk page. DGFA even more so here does not apply and I suggest you read WP:CONSENSUS. Administrators evaluate the discussion and not the subject matter. We are not here to WP:SUPERVOTE discussions even if we personally disagree with the consensus. This is why many admins choose to participate in the discussion rather than administer them in such situations. Also, you're welcome to re-create the article if you feel you could reasonably write an article that meets our GNG criteria, especially if the article at the time of the previous discussion was missing quite a bit of important information. I do caution you that doing so you must be certain that the article will meet GNG otherwise it will be seen as an attempt to forcibly overturn the consensus of a recent deletion discussion. Mkdwtalk 23:49, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
As mentioned, after a week's availability for discussion all of the input was that it should be deleted. If you felt that additional things should have been considered then that should have been brought up in the discussion while it was opened. As it was an AfD that has been opened for a week and has had multiple editors in addition to the nom comment and there is an unanimous WP:CONSENSUS that it should be deleted, there is no doubt in the decision. To close with a result other than delete would be overriding consensus as an admin, and as many of these discussions attract little input the amount of discussion has to be considered appropriate for a closure instead of relisting. If you believe that the closure was in error you are welcome to request a deletion review, however I will note that (again) there is unlikely to be any overturning of the result on the basis of a mis-read of consensus; if you believe you have sufficient sourcing to prove that GNG is met DRV is still the way to go because, as mentioned, simple recreation can be considered disruptive. - The Bushranger One ping only 00:43, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Deletion of Duma Optronics

Hello,

The page Duma Optronics was deleted by you, after it was approved by JamesBWatson. Could you please explain why was it deleted and what can be done to restore it?

Thanks, EotN — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eagleofthenorth (talkcontribs) 11:06, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

I'll note that the article was not "approved", it was restored as a standard disputed proposed deletion. As for why it was deleted, it was because there was nothing to indicate how the company meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. In order to have an article on the company, notability needs to be established via third-party reliable sources that are independent of the subject. - The Bushranger One ping only 17:00, 25 December 2015 (UTC)

The Template for Canadian AP1-88 hovercraft

The template as it reads now shows that all the hovercrafts listed are still in operation by the the Canadian Coast Guard which is why I made the edit I made. The words Equipment of the Canadian Coast Guard suggest that it is still in service of the Canadian Coast Guard which it isn't.

I am not an über wikipedia editor so could be please advise what would be the best solution to be both historically correct and show current equipment in service. This category template is also used on pages like CCGH_Siyay and other hovercraft pages. Coffeerob (talk) 20:33, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Well the "Equipment of the Canadian Coast Guard" line is just a link - a "here's other equipment" thing. Hovercraft are generally considered ships in Wikipedia, and the standard way in which ship-class navboxen are formatted is that it lists every ship under each using navy - {{Flower class corvette}} is an (admittedly slightly extreme) example. When a ship is sold or gifted to another navy, the correct way to represent that in the template is to leave the original user and name in the navbox - with an added column giving the navy's name - and then to add a new row for the new navy and name. When one is sold into civilian service - as it seems the hovercraft that started this line of discussion was - the navbox is simply left as-is. - The Bushranger One ping only 20:48, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Need some help here: Robert Taylor (actor)

A relatively new editor has been adding a great deal of information based on what some other editors consider a questionable source: Template:Find a Grave; more importantly is a tendentious history WP:TE in constantly reverting back to a preferred version, thereby hitting the 3R rule. Can you help; I have already set up a talk page discussion on the topic of Robert Taylor's death. I do not want to go any further, for the time being, on dealing with the numerous other articles that have been revised to have a great reliance on the Find-a-Grave website as a reference source. Sorry to involve you in a sticky issue, especially during the season of good will. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 23:23, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Block from IPs box

Hi Bushranger, in this comment you said that "the 'block from IPs' box was checked". I'm a bit curious what that means, technically. Does it mean that the IP's are blocked too? I don't see any evidence of that in their block logs. Could you perhaps clarify? TIA and cheers - DVdm (talk) 10:56, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

I could have used better phrasing there, certainly! There's a box in the block settings that says "Autoblock any IP addresses used" - this is a default setting, so it only is mentioned in the block log if it's unchecked. It should keep the IPs linked to the blocked user from being used for a time, but of course, it's not infallible. - The Bushranger One ping only 22:36, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Ramil Garifullin

Dear The Bushranger Again raised to remove the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramil_Garifullin. Earlier in 2014, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ramil_Garifullin thanks , the article was taken out of removal. And here it is again. Please pay attention to the discussion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Ramil_Garifullin What, in my opinion, involves removal? Here is the arguments :

1. The initiator of removal Akim Dubrov. Fedor Babkin is the assistant Akim Dubrov. That is, there is a tandem Fedor Babkin-Akim Dubrov. Akim Dubrov and Ramil Garifullin is a long – standing opponents and have antagonism. A significant portion of the papers and books of Professor, candidate of psychological Sciences of Ramil Garifullin dedicated to drug prevention. Moreover, Ramil Garifullin in the media acutely raised the issue about the dangers of certain articles in Wikipedia dedicated to drugs and psihodelii (http://www.securitylab.ru/analytics/472275.php.) On the other hand, Akim Dubrov is the author and translator of books in Russia dedicated to drug substances and an author of articles on psihodelii in Wikipedia. It is likely that the main antagonism between Akim Dubrov and Ramil Garifullin is now in the risk of publications on drugs and psihodelii in Wikipedia.

2. Earlier this conflict Akim Dubrov - Ramil Garifullin has been associated with the publication of an article about Garifullina negative article about Snowden. Article about Garifullin on Wikipedia was removed in 2013 on the day of publication in the Russian newspaper article about Snowden.

3. Ramil Garifullina good level of scientific citation http://elibrary.ru/author_refs.asp?authorid=295329&SesCookieID=372174247&UserID=175914337. Ramil Garifullin told me that if would be continued against him as slander in the discussion of Wikipedia, he is libel to sue.

4. Moreover, this identity in the English Wikipedia is seen as a well-known Russian journalist and writer, not as a scientist. Although the number of scientific articles and monographs enough (watch out links http://elibrary.ru/author_refs.asp?authorid=295329&SesCookieID=372174247&UserID=175914337. Therefore it is incorrect to use the same discussion for deletion on the Russian Wikipedia.

5. The Internet is the namesake and namesake, Ramil Garifullina, who is really engaged in pseudoscience and is in jail. It's a different person. Not to be confused! So it looks like slander.

6. Based on this English article was formed a modified Russian text to Russian Wikipedia, which upheld the administrator --be-nt-all Here is his assessment: the Draft looked, the chances of successful recovery are good, although above the neutral still need to be work --the be-nt-all 07:40, November 25, 2015 (UTC). This text was revised and edited based discussions-2013. Here is the translation:

7. But Akim Dubrow was removed for some reason https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A3%D1%87%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%82%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA:Irek_Minnullin Irek Minnullin 22:27, 24 November 2015 (UTC) .

8. be-nt-all gave me an assignment to work on the draft is not directly on RS, but on the appropriate subpage: User:Irek Minnullin/Garifullin Ramil, Rosiewicz --be-nt-all16:43, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

9. Ask the participants to carefully examine all links and articles Garifullina and not to succumb to provocations tandem Fedor Babkin-Akim Dubrov. Article revised in the light of ancient comments-2013. The article is about a famous essayist and writer. The merit of Ramil Garifullina as a scientist is sufficient.

10. Please withdraw or remove the article from deletion!

11. And think, what are the motives of the authors of the Russian Wikipedia to put the question of removal of articles from the English Wikipedia.Irek Minnullin (talk) 00:57, 2 January 2016 (UTC) Irek Minnullin (talk) 08:04, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Joel Barnes

Why was the page Joel Barnes deleted? There is just as much media content for Joel Barnes then Alex Wilson... Alexandria Wilson for the Weather Channel, why are weather channel staff more notable then WeatherNation staff? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FB90:128:B6C1:0:3:EBF8:B901 (talk) 02:24, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The notability, or lack thereof, of TWC personnel has no bearing on the notability, or lack thereof, of WeatherNation personnel. If Mr. Barnes met the notability guideline, he would be kept. The WP:CONSENSUS was that he doesn't, so he wasn't. Also please stop your WP:FORUMSHOPPING. - The Bushranger One ping only 06:43, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

OTR 21 Tochka

  • I tried to cut down on details, but its difficult mainly because alot of parties are involved in the war. We have to specify which Yemeni faction used it because their are Yemenis (Islamic groups & parts of the Yemeni army) fighting along with Saudi. Tochka was never used in the same manner it was in Yemen & its the only time we get media leaks on causalities because they occur in Yemen where its harder to maintain the Saudi media black out, so it will naturally have more details. Baselshafik (talk) 10:05, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
That's fair enough - and some of the other useages probably should have a bit more added to them. But, IMHO at least, the article should have a short summary of the useage of the weapon, with details going in the page on the war. - The Bushranger One ping only 02:11, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Packard V-1650 Merlin

BR, would you consider moving Packard V-1650 to Packard V-1650 Merlin? It should be non-controversial, as Merlin is clearly the common name for the engine, and the new names would follow the M-D-N format. However, I'll be happy to do a move proposal if you think that's needed and/or disapprove of the move. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 07:10, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Well I'm not sure if "m-d-n" counts for engines, but it does fit by WP:COMMONNAME, so I'll see about moving it. - The Bushranger One ping only 08:59, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Eldora race name

I brought this up at WT:NASCAR, but apparently no one's seen it (or responded, at least), but what do you think should be done about the Mudsummer Classic name? Supposedly, it's the "#Eldora at Eldora Speedway" (or "#Eldora") according to a source I found from NBC Sports, but I'm not sure if it's one of those tentative names until sponsorship arrives or if that's the official name. Normally it's be the former, but the way it's being treated by Eldora's Twitter and the fact that a NASCAR journalist actually wrote an article about it makes me think otherwise. What do you think? Zappa24Mati 23:26, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Hm, I'd say at this point use the name that's being used, and if it changes later, that's what the "move" tab is for. - The Bushranger One ping only 22:40, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi there, I think it's about time to move Martin 316 to Martin XB-68 as discussed, since nobody objected. I tried to move the page myself but it requires admin privileges due to the target page existing already. Cheers. --Deeday-UK (talk) 00:15, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

SEO siteban

Hi Bushranger. Thanks for closing the SEO-banning thread at ANI and implementing the indef. Question for you - several hours after you did that, the notice of banning was placed on Tonyeny's Talk page here by someone editing under an IP address. If that was you, would you please re-do it under your username? If it was not you, you would please consider whether that notice should be removed and done by an admin? Maybe it is OK, but I just want to be sure everything is kosher with this. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 16:07, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

@Jytdog: - That wasn't me, because I'd already placed the ban notification here, under the ANI discussion higher up the page. But thanks for looking out for it! - The Bushranger One ping only 22:30, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Duno

I thought that some time between our last conversation regarding the Duno page might be beneficial. I’m hoping that you might be willing to participate in further discussion to see if a positive compromise might be reached. Are you willing? I am new to Wikipedia but hope to become a contributor in several areas of motorsport – especially those in which I feel that I have the most knowledge and experience.- Indyrolexalms (talk) 23:36, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

I believe that the current position is a solid compromise, actually. We'd certainly and absolutely welcome your contributions, but it must be remembered that "neutral point of view" does not mean "only positive". When somebody is well-noted for being controversial or having a negative reputation that is backed up by sources, then that is how the article must portray them (and a large number of the other drivers' pages are probably needing some addition of information along those lines - and citing, for those that do, like Tracy). That said though, as long as you are familiar with policy and edit within it, then your contributions are always welcome. - The Bushranger One ping only 12:29, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your prompt reply, welcome and suggestions. With regard to compromise - I’m not sure that keeping the original edit intact and unchanged represents a form of compromise – at least in my understanding of the term. Does your understanding differ from mine? If it does, is it please possible that you could shed some light on that? If not, would you be willing to discuss possible changes to the current edit?.- Indyrolexalms (talk) 23:36, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
It has already been trimmed back some from how it was. As it is it is wholly consistent with all policies, most especially WP:NPOV. - The Bushranger One ping only 10:42, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
Very disappointing that you are unwilling - but thanks for the prompt reply.-Indyrolexalms (talkIndyrolexalms (talk) 22:43, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
Just as an FYI, in one of the articles you cited, which has IndyCar driver Ryan Hunter-Reay, with regard to qualifying at Watkins Glen in 2010, griping about Duno saying "Wake up, man. Wake up," Hunter-Reay is heard gently scolding her. "You just cost me a (qualifying) session." In reality, what cost Ryan Hunter-Reay his qualifying session is the fact that he spun out and ended up in the gravel. Please see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEhQA8TQVUo. As you can clearly see in the video - Duno was nowhere near Ryan Hunter-Reay. Just because a driver gripes about something - doesn't make it so - even if it is reported in media and can be sourced. This is just one example. -Indyrolexalms (talk[[ —Preceding undated comment added 02:01, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
That is also a perfect example of original research. "The truth" may be that she did not block him. But Wikipedia is not here to report WP:THETRUTH, it is here to report verifiable facts, and the verifiable fact is her reputation, sadly, is of being slower than James May. - The Bushranger One ping only 06:22, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Old blanked AfD entry

Hey, Bushranger! So I've found an old AfD entry at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jason Latimer's Fountain Walk that was blanked back in May 2015 – what, if anything, should be done if/when I stumble across these?... TIA. --IJBall (contribstalk) 22:07, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

In this case, the blanking was done by the nominator as their way of withdrawing the AfD - while improper, the intent was clear. When stuff like that is found it's best to "pass it on" to be dealt with - thanks for finding this. - The Bushranger One ping only 06:24, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Review deletion of Cisco ASA article

This is referring to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Cisco_ASA For the last few years doing a search for an article on cisco asa, one of the most popular computer networking security appliances in the world led to the cisco pix page, which gives a brief mention to the fact that the pix line was replaced by the asa line. The asa was not a direct replacement of the pix. The asa was, iirc, a combination of roughly three products, and, presumably, in the last decade, it's probably changed a bit. On the pix talk page there are discussions going back to 2012 talking about un-deleting the asa page, but obviously that hasn't happened. I actually didn't know about any of this until today. So a few days ago I added a very brief stub about the asa at the end of the pix page basically re-iterating what the pix page already said and giving a date for the introduction of the first asa products. Even if you don't think that un-deleting the asa page is the right thing to do I would like to at least see it's contents to see if there's anything worth adding to the stub I left.TeeTylerToe (talk) 14:39, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Unfortunatly, I don't have access to the deleted page - it's not showing as having any deleted revisions. Sorry I can't help. - The Bushranger One ping only 21:49, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

BR (or admin watchers), User:Davidtv appears to be linkspamming on a number of articles, primarily NASCAR and Motocross. Lee Cockerell Page

Hey, I was just wondering why the Lee Cockerell page was taken down on January 3rd, 2016? Just curious, that was my first ever wiki article and I'm disappointed it was taken down. If I need to add the appropriate sources and referencing I can go ahead and do that, but it would be nice to have a copy of the article that was taken down so I don't have to start from scratch. Thanks!

P.S. Sorry I haven't really communicated through wikipedia before, but I'll check this page a few times for an answer (at least I think that's how this works) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Julliancockerell (talkcontribs) 15:51, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi there. It was deleted because a consensus in this discussion determined that the article was unsuitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. The issues identified there would need to be resolved before the article can be restored; you'll also want to read Wikipedia's policy on editing with a conflict of interest. I've restored a copy of the article to your userspace at User:Julliancockerell/Lee Cockerell for you to work on after you've read through that. Good luck! - The Bushranger One ping only 23:08, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sjknightjr (talkcontribs) 02:32, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi there. Unfortunatly your article was determined to not have sufficient reliable sources available to pass the [[WP:NPERSON|very strict standard of "notability"] that a living person must pass in order to have an article in Wikipedia. Also, Discogs isn't a reliable source by Wikipedia's standards, and the writing of autobiographies is discouraged. The best way to have an article on you in Wikipedia at this point is just to give it time and get noticed by various sources; notability will follow in due course. - The Bushranger One ping only 23:11, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
