Mount Tabor Indian Cemetery and editing stuff[edit]
I have deleted Mount Tabor Indian Cemetery because it was a copyright infringement. You cannot take information from someone else's webpage and post it in its entirety (or pretty close) on Wikipedia, even if it is cited. Not only is that a copyright infringement, but other websites present information differently than Wikipedia and have different rules than Wikipedia, so it is often not appropriate to paste the information. I've also recently done a cleanup on the article Yowani Choctaws.
You appear to be a new contributor who is anxious to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Choctaw topics, but you might want to review some of Wikipedia's core policies and guidelines:
- No original research and verifiability - Wikipedia can't publish information that hasn't already been published somewhere else. Commentary is not allowed.
- Reliable sources - Information on WP should be cited to a reliable source. This usually does not include a self-published source like a website. Books, journal articles and newspaper articles are considered reliable sources.
- Neutral point of view (NPOV) - Articles on wikipedia must be written in the neutral point of view. That means we present facts but not opinions. This is especially difficult, but equally necessary, in articles on Native American history. For example, it is not NPOV to say that "Things were changing in Texas and not for the good as 1835 passed on to 1836." That type of sentence should be left out, and instead the article should focus on explaning the events that happened. Then the reader can make the determination for themselves as to whether the changes were good or bad.
- How to cite sources - You've done a great job including the list of sources that you used, but it would also be helpful if you used inline citations. That way people can see where each piece of the article comes from. Information about the history of Native American tribes is often disputed, and having inline citations for each piece of information helps readers to understand who is saying what.
It might also be helpful to read Wikipedia:Writing better articles. There's lots of rules at Wikipedia, and it's often hard when you are new to figure out what to do. Your work is helping to fill in some big gaps that Wikipedia has right now. As Tribal Chairman of the Mount Tabor Indian Community, with ancestors buried in there we have the right to use our name where we need it. Paul Ridenour is not a member of MTIC. He does have authority to put information on his website which regarding the cemetery he notes came from ME. So there is no copyright infringement as I was the primary sources. All other sources from GenWeb, Rusk County, or the Mount Tabor Indian Community site [1] all are authorized either by myself or as applicable through the MTIC Executive Committee. As to someone continuing to remove the reference under "State Recognized Indian Tribes" I gave the SPECIFIC state references to the Mount Tabor Indian Community listings as a State Recognized Tribe under said heading. While any help in cleanup is more than welcome, I see no reason to continue to use or support Wikipedia financially if information on historical groups like the Yowani Choctaws or Mount Tabor recognition continues to be deleted. I apologize for not being more involved since 2008 when I first started on the articles,

Still having issues navigating Wikipedia, in particular deaing with those removing the Mount Tabor Indian Community reference from the "List of State Recognized Tribes" Ahalenia Ahalenia and one other have removed the posting as has one other stating that the bill was only honorary. However, under Texas law the wording of the bill is the issue and the final paragraph states "RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby RECOGNIZE the Mount Tabor Indian Community of Texas and commend it on its many valuable contributions to this state; and, be it further... This is the same wording as the 2008 Lipan Apache bill that was recently upheld by the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in a religious case related to possession of eagle feathers. "That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby RECOGNIZE the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas and commend it on its many valuable contributions to this state; and, be it further..." The feathers were returned due to their being a "state recognized tribe" and a violation of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Note the House bill fr the Lipan was worded the same way. The Mount Tabor Bill was a joint bill and signed by the Governor. The Governor did not sign the Apache bill. There is then no discernible difference in the wording of the two tribes recognition. This is different from a 2015 bill for the Texas Band of Yaqui Indians which specifically stated "Honored" not "recognized". At this point not being able to navigate Wikipedia properly, I cannot respond to those removing it, but must file a formal protest if it continues.Terran57 (talk) 18:40, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to hear that you are unwell, but I do appreciate your efforts to help improve Wikipedia's coverage of such an important topic. Pictures are always welcome, but they need to meet Wikipedia's image policy. That means that either you took the photos or they should be in the public domain. There are lots of rules about images and I am by no means an expert on them. If there is specific help that you need, please feel free to ask. I'm also very sorry to hear about your cousin. GenQuest, Not sure if I am doing this correct in my attempt to talk to you. I want to thank you for your note. I apologize for doing this page rather backwards. I have not built any pages since 2008 and have done little editing since then as well. Due to health situations, my comprehension is not what it was, or maybe it's getting older, but I refuse to accept that part. :-) I thank all for patience as I put this together. I completely changed it from the initial page, as it was just too long. Kinda hard to put over 170 years of history down without a book. The Texas State Historical Association has done a good job and I was involved in that, with that 1 page taking almost a year and a half due to length and data vetting.
What I do need help with is pictures! I just cannot figure how to do it. I am very involved as a historian and genealogist associated with the Mount Tabor Indian Community, so I have a wealth of photos that would qualify for this page and at least 5 others I have done back in 2008. Any help you can give me would be so greatly appreciated.
Another issue I am unclear on is signature. I have got it on how to do it on here, but on edits, not sure where to put a signature or on the page I created recently. I don't remember putting a signature on any old pages I created between 2005-2008. I would like to be more involved, but I need to bring the brain up to speed.

Copyright problem on Mount Tabor Indian Community[edit]
Content you added to the above article appears to have been copied from http://cherokeeregistry.firstlightonline.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=319&Itemid=399 or elsewhere online. Copying text directly from a source is a copyright violation. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, the content had to be removed. All content you add to Wikipedia must be written in your own words. @Diannaa: Since I am the one that originally wrote it, and copied by someone else and added to the site mentioned, and we are talking about a legal treaties that are on file at the Texas State Archives in Austin, there is no copyright issue and it should not be removed. There is no copyright instances on anything I have written except documents which are public from the 1840's and not subject to copyright. As a historian, genealogist, I may be lacking knowledge in Wiki, but not history. Nor as a former CFR judge would I determine any copyright of my original information. Please contact me before you start removing things. I welcome, tweeking to make it more Wiki friendly, as I have a lot to learn, but this nonsense has happened to me before about the Mount Tabor Indian Cemetery, where I put it on Wikipedia, only to have somebody say it was on another site and remove it. YES, information of mine on that site. Same on the Treaty of Birds Fort, where somebody took it off, only to have somebody else put it back up later. Suggestions is better than removal in this instance.

@Diannaa: a second thought those treaties were OUR treaties, my tribe, my people, my family of which I am the elected Chairman. That in it's self states you have no right to remove them. You may not understand tribal sovereignty, but this is a violation of such. Also, show me ANYWHERE on the net referencing the Treaty with the Fredonian Republic! Mount Tabor Indian Community Overhaul[edit]
I'm reaching out because I'm planning to facilitate a process to make major changes to the Mount Tabor Indian Community article. From what I've seen of the dialogue here on Wikipedia, this article has been marked for deletion and has been through multiple iterations of content deletion. We can get the article in a state what that shouldn't be an issue in the future. I can see that you are involved in the Mount Tabor Indian Community, which has placed you in a situation of perceived bias from the beginning. My hat is off to you for the efforts you've made to overcome that. I'm a completely unbiased party that stumbled into this issue only yesterday from a genealogical perspective, became interested in the subject, and I'd like to help.
