Help on the Superman court cases

I've uploaded digital scans of the various court cases over Superman's copyright. Skimming through them, there is a lot of interesting stuff. However, I have severe ADHD and studying long documents is next to impossible for me. I need help on this. I need someone, preferably somebody who understands American copyright law, to work on the Superman ownership disputes article with me. Who did declare a cause of death for Antonin Scalia? Per Gawker (& Slate), Guevara went from unspecified “natural causes” to heart attack (or “myocardial infarction”) before reverting back to “natural causes” again—not a heart attack. One point everyone can agree on is that Cinderela Guevara herself never saw the body. Is Poindexter qualified to declare a cause of death? As you point out, of course he isn't. Superman

Hi, I noticed BaronBifford removed a large part of the Publication section in the Superman article. I was wondering if he had consensus to do so or if it was just part of many other random edits he made on his own. That section, as you may recall, had a cover of Action Comics #1 vol. 2 showing the new look of the comic juxtaposed with the original one from 1938. I think it should be restored but seeing the laundry list of edits made by BaronBifford, I wasn't sure if a consensus was reached to removed the ladder half of the Publication section. Hey buddy. I just wanted to get your opinion about something. I see that you uploaded File:CaptainAmerica109.jpg. Honestly, I never really liked that image. We already have much better examples of Kirby's work already in the article. There's nothing specifically wrong with it, it just a personal taste. I was thinking we could use this image instead but since you uploaded the existing image I wanted to get your opinion instead of just replacing it. If you don't want to change it, no worries. You're right its not full body but to be fair most of the detail in Cap's uniform is in his upper half except for maybe his cavalier boots. The trade off is that Ross gives more detail to elements that are shown particularly in the scales and its not like there aren't any other images to fill in the gaps. Also I think the low angle shot and pose gives the image some gravitas and better captures Cap's persona. Yes the 'A' is washed out a bit but its not like you can't make it out. If the NY Times article says she was named after the song "And They Call the Wind Maria" from the movie Paint Your Wagon (1969) and the movie Paint Your Wagon was released on October 15, 69, she can't be born March 27, 1969. -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paint_Your_Wagon_%28film%29 In the wiki article on "early life" they cite the wrong Paint Your Wagon 1951 movie. And when I am here, I checked the two 1969 sources cited. This one is not valid since they say she was 41 and there is a photo that they cite from April 30, 2011 http://www.cbsnews.com/news/mariah-carey-im-pregnant/ then she was born March 27, 1970. I know this is copyr. 2010 but if they cite April 11, 2011 also it's strange. And the other one from Newsday they cite she is 44 in 2013 but they can had taken this info from the CBS article or made a false calculation. Hi, D. The alleged birth certificates that have appeared online were addressed in the archives at Talk:Mariah Carey. Please see, for example, the post signed "Hoary 01:20, 22 January 2014". Hoax documents have been known to circulate on the Internet, and these particular ones aren't posted on any official County of Los Angeles site so the question arises: Where did they come from? Who outside the family could have obtained the children's birth certificates and scanned them? And if it was the family, why didn't the family post and announce it, rather than have them mysteriously "show up" at a couple of minor sites — and not a mainstream publication that would have vetted them? For Stella Stevens birthyear all the sites says October 1, 1938, but english wiki says 1936. The source from wiki says she was 3 in the U.S.Census 1940 but we can't have access. Peter I made a research on google and I found no source that say that he died January 1, 1958. All say only in 1958. For Mariah Carey, I understand now that you must put the two years since she can be lying. Your supposition is correct; the first African-American president of Howard University was Mordecai Wyatt Johnson, appointed in 1926. I am not sure that he is the first African American to serve as president of an independent college or university. The Wikipedia article for M. I deal in emotions and not facts? I think I have good reasons to hate those lines and have tried arguing them with you. While Wikipedia's rules regarding notability include press coverage as a criteria for inclusion, they do not mandate mentioning the press coverage itself. Dear Tenebrae, Thank you again for your advice. I'm concerned because the proposed deletion discussion has not taken any particular new direction, but editors keep adding the discussion to article deletion pages related to different topics. My sense is that some of these editors are trying very hard to get my page deleted or is this just part of the process of review? For instance, they have copied the general deletion discussion to academic deletion and Ohio deletion pages. I hold advanced degrees, but have never claimed to be an academic researcher. I'm a practitioner, and always have been as a curator who was appointed courtesy faculty and research positions. I also don't live in Ohio. I think of myself as a zoologist and nature writer who has worked as an animal trainer both independently and for facilities. Should my article reflect that more? As a journalist, I do a lot more writing in publications than I have articles written about me and that seems to be the nature of the journalis profession. I've been told on multiple occassions that I meet the notability requirements for a Wikipedia article, so I feel that I'm being a bit unfairly treated. Am I being unreasonable. I made some research on Ed Bassmaster. His real name is Edwin Rodriguez and not Edwin Martin Barry II, it's an invention from an IP some months ago and nobody noticed it by putting a social number with a name then made another edit and making a comment that he forgot the "II" then erased the social number. And I saw you reverted another IP who put a social number on the birth name. Hey Tenebrae. The Joker

Hi Tenebrae, I wanted your input on something if you have the time. The Joker (comics) article is, IMO, at its peak. It's detailed, thoroughly sourced, linked and imaged. It's taken years and years but I think it's pretty much as perfect as it can be given the available resources. I nominated it for FAC probably over a year ago, a lot of months at least and it got derailed by a user who claimed that it shouldn't be about the comic character but the character in general.

It was insanely frustrating because I look at it and it covers ALL aspects of the character: it focuses on the comics which I consider the source material and the original material, it mentions, animation, comics and games where relevant throughout, with links to the major articles covering these subjects such as Joker in other media. This wasn't good enough and ultimately the FAC failed and it's really disheartened me since. I'd like to work on other comic characters and improve them but I don't see the point if the apparent apex of comic articles (basing Joker off of other featured comic character articles) is no longer accurate, then I'm just wasting my time.

Can I ask your thoughts on the subject, because I'd really like to finally elevate Joker so I can move on after all these years to other characters, and I really do not know what to do with it anymore. The coverage is broad, fairly detailed, and it's not good enough. And I know if I nominate it again, the same user will derail it with the same unassailable criticisms asking the article to be something it is not, and it will fail and I'll have wasted my time again. Hi Tenebrae, I have become slightly frustrated at these film budget discussions going in circles so I thought it might be useful to focus on a specific example as a sort of "litmus test". I am slightly concerned at the number of editors who are looking at "interpretation" based solutions rather than source based solutions too, so I am hoping a real tangible example might move the debate away from OR viewpoints. With that in mind I have picked out John Carter (film) to run an RFC on since there are quite a few possible permutations for the budget and the RFC is at Talk:John_Carter_(film)#RfC:_Which_figure_should_go_in_the_budget_field_in_the_infobox.3F. If we get a concrete outcome then it may guide us in similar cases. While our positions are close they are not identical, so should you wish to engage in yet another budget discussion then feel free to append other options to the proposal. I did post a notification at the Film project but I am giving you the heads up just in case you didn't notice. I am still hoping we can find a format that satisfies everyone, but if we can't the will of the community will hopefully prevail and put the debate to bed. Don Groves Forbes Contributor Issue

What's up bestie? I wanted to clarify this source. On the RS noticeboard for this source, User:MjolnirPants said: "You [referring to @Protonk], Only in death and I have all agreed that the reliability of the writer is what we should be judging this usage of this source on. Also, both you and I seem to be in agreement that this writer is reliable for this claim." And, please correct me if I am wrong, but you also noted elsewhere that Groves was RS, given his credentials. So, if true, we all agree that he can be used in relation to entertainment stories. What I think you are objecting to is how the source is cited, correct? If so, I am completely fine with listing him as a contributor or whatever other manner which you feel is appropriate. My problem, and forgive my ignorance, is that I don't know how to edit the source. I did try editing the sources section after I had made a change, but it wouldn't let me. Hi again, when I read your message I knew that if I search through familysearch I would find she was born in september 1925. On the U.S.Census 1930 [1] and U.S.Census 1940 [2] she was 4 and 14 years old respectively, it means she was born between April 1925 and April 1926. If she is born in September, it only means what I think, she was born in September 1925. Note the difference of age and of the birthplace of his father in the two Census. In the 1930 he was born in Yugoslavia and in 1940 he was born in Austria. He lied on one of the two Census. And I just found another "BIG HOLLYWOOD NAME" who shaves a year (like you said), none other than Barbara Stanwyck. She was supposed to be born July 16, 1907. Or the U.S.Census of 1910, enumerated April 21, 1910, say that she is 3 years old -> [3], SEE ! If she is 3 years old on April 21, 1910, it means she was born BEFORE April 21, 1907 implies she can't be born July 16, 1907, she would has 2 years old on the Census. I just had an idea that someone should made an article (wiki page) about enumerating the celebrities that may possibly have shave a year and we can put their "official" birthdate" and the "probably real" birthdate by putting in the second one the sources from the Census 1910, 1920, 1930, 1940,...since we have the Census for real good sources, no one could say wikipedia made false accusations without proof. Gene Gutowski

Hi again,

Gene Gutowski has died yesterday at the age of 90...go on google and see for yourself in the articles from Associated Press, The Times, ABC etc... and all these serious sources say that he was born July 26, 1925. But probably because of the "great IMDB" who say that he was born May 7, 1925, all the wikis had a date of birth of May 7, 1925 and that he died at the age of 91. Me I corrected it on french wiki about an hour ago but on en:wiki at this moment 3 contibutors have "contributed" and the first one who have noted the death with a ref from Ass. Press seem to be blind. I could correct it myself, the source is already there, but I want to enjoy myself by watching how many others will contribute in this article before and if someone will see and correct this or if IMDB will see it and correct it on his site also. Emily Carmichael, Colin Trevorrow, Simon Kinberg

Sorry. I'm a very occasional wikipedia user and am confused about your designation of a recently announced Amblin project as WP: CYSTAL and promotional until production starts. On Trevorrow's page there's information that he is writing and producing the Jurassic World sequel (another Amblin project) which is not yet in production and news that he is directing Star Wars Episode IX also not in production. On Kinberg's page there is news that he is producing Murder on the Orient Express, Logan's Run, and a live-action film of Magic the Gathering all not in production. Why are these future projects by Trevorrow and Kinberg that are not yet in production not also WP:CYSTAL but their producing of the Emily Carmichael project are? They are all announced future projects with major studios. I could understand the WP:LEAD but not its deletion entirely from all three pages when there are other examples of projects in similar stages that remain. Thank you. That all makes sense. Thanks for clarifying for me. There seems to be a prejudice for propertied projects, films not yet in production but based on books, TV, comics, etc., which seems unfair since as you said they face the possibility of never getting made just like original projects. But I take your point that, if there's a standard, evidence of it not being applied evenly or fairly is no reason to let the standard die. I am a big fan of hers but I assumed as long as I was citing reputable sources there wouldn't be a problem with me being a kind of single issue user. But I can see how surmising intent is necessary to keep the place from being overrun by fans, etc. who pop in to edit on someone they enjoy and then disappear without having a sense of the culture at large of wikipedia. @Shearonink: Hi. As mentioned to the admin who protected the page — twice — the user is inserting a non-consensus GCD format that is at odds with the style widely in use throughout two to three hundred articles at least in WikiProject Comics. This particular edit also creates two different GCD formats within the same article. Thirdly, the anon IP is guilty of edit-warring and refusing to discuss his edits. Fourthly, he's been making these edits via multiple sock-puppet accounts. Excuse me? "am wondering if you are related to any of these edits?" I was puzzled, you know...puzzled. That's why I asked you about it here. On your talk page. It seemed to me that this edit was adding a complete reference, of the type usually preferred within Wikipedia cites (to prevent cite rot, to help with verifiability etc) instead of the reference-style previously present.

I would suggest that this WP:WikiProject Comics/GCD reference style be clearly codified as part of the WP MOS guidelines so it can be referred to by new editors or by editors not participating in the WikiProject. That way if an editor somehow not familiar with the Comics WikiProject's preferred GCD referencing - which after all, is a majority of WP editors - comes across a Comics article they will know at that article (perhaps by an internal notice on the editing page or whatever might be appropriate) that this style is preferred and is also not against the WikiProject's WP:MOS. I did look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Comics and the GCD "section" is not delineated as such (see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Comics#In-line use of dates and issue numbers). I like to learn the why around WP, so when I see things I don't quite understand I usually ask. Apology accepted.

That #ISH is the referencing section I already mentioned above in my previous post. The problem is that it shows the style but it is not clearly delineated by mentioning GCD or Grand Comics Database within the section title. I think that it would help the Project if Comics articles could include that information at the article in some sort of notice or template, even at the talk page etc...something. This style does not seem to look like any other accepted referencing style on the encyclopedia, but since it is accepted and part of the MOS then the references need to be protected by a notice. There are lots of casual editors who might wander into a Comics article and innocently change things, thinking they are helping. Shearonink (talk) 17:43, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

There's already a heated RfC going on about an unrelated aspect of WikiProject MOS, so I'm wary of making or even suggesting any edit to the MOS until that RfC is resolved; it's been going for more than five weeks and a request for closure has been put in, so I'm hoping it ends soon. It's all about quote marks vs. italics, and some of the discussion has resembled a WWE match. You see Tenebrae, this site in French is dedicated to actors and actresses of international cinema. It's a friend of mine who has it, Philippe Pelletier. He lives in Paris and works for TV5 Monde. He collects birth and death certificates from all over the world. He told me he has about 25000 of them. When I told him about André The Giant, he told me that he has his death certificate also but he hasn't scanned it yet but he created the article André The Giant today and he told me when it will be scanned he will put it on his site. I corrected in wiki french many dates that were wrong because from France there are a lot of birth certificates online. But it has yet more errors to correct. Imagine in english wiki, also. He also had errors on his site (my friend Philippe) but I helped him correct a lot. And believe me or not, I think this site for birth and death dates is the most accurate on the net. He put certificates online a little bit by little bit. It's always in the section "Autres" (Others). Example: I found on BAnQ (Bibliothèque des archives nationales du Québec) the birth certificate of Norma Shearer. All the sites on the net will gives you August 10, 1902. All the newspapers who tell about her death said that she was born in 1938 and she died at 78 years old. On en:wiki it was written 1938 but a malicious IP changed that for 22nd January 1942 without sources and no one seems to have noticed that... but me. And I want also tell you when she was born in 1938. Tenebrae, you opened this individual good article reassessment a couple of years ago now, and I suspect you thought you were opening a community reassessment. Individual reassessments are supposed to be much like regular good article reviews, run by the person opening the assessment and judging the article against the GA criteria.

What I would like to suggest is a way forward. Right now there's a list of things that had been problems before you made a bunch of edits, so I'm assuming they have been fixed. If you could add a new assessment of the current issues with the article—you don't need to be comprehensive yet, but point out some significant problems, be it with prose or grammar, sourcing, broadness, neutrality, or whatever, with the article in terms of the GA criteria. Specific examples should be included. I can then notify a couple of the WikiProjects that the article comes under—"Actors and Filmmakers" and "The O.C." look most likely—and see whether anyone shows up to fix the issues. If no one does, then after seven days the reassessment can close and the article be delisted, but a key part of every reassessment is noting the issues and notifying active editors on the article (there aren't any in this case) and some WikiProjects.

Please let me know whether you're willing to resume this reassessment. There is always the possibility that someone will show up and start doing major editing in response the issues raised, which will require a more comprehensive list of the problems, but as the WP:GAR page makes clear, the reassessment should have as a goal to find the places the article falls short of GA status so that it can be improved to the point that it qualifies again. This happens sometimes, but not frequently; if it doesn't happen here, then the article is delisted.

I made some research in the french tables of births of Paris for the years 1883 to 1902 and found no one named Marguerite Lucile Jolivet a.k.a. Rita Jolivet who was supposed to be born in Paris in 1890. All names with a dot at right of their birthdate means that I saw their birth certificate that are online on the web from the Archives of France and Italia. I'm helping my friend to put the birth certificates on his site online, Cinéartistes. Did you know where I found Olga Capri birth certificate from Rome that she was supposedly born May 18, 1893... Toonopedia

Hi Tenebrae,

I am aware of your efforts with Toonopedia and I even added to your list at least once I believe. I try to add Toonopedia articles to various articles as inline citations when possible. For example, the "Portia Prinz of the Glamazons" Toonopedia page is now cited in the Richard Howell (comics) article. There are probably a few times where I saved a Toonopedia page to WebCite myself rather than checking your list, so some have been archived more than once.

I hope your friend's surgery goes well and that you're doing well yourself. I turned the Big Five-Oh this year and while I'm fine, an older sibling and a parent have had health issues which are quite concerning. It can be rough getting older so please take care and stay strong.

(P.S.) The next time you're at a comics shop with a well-stocked back issue section, find a copy of Korak, Son of Tarzan #54 (October-November 1973) and look at the last page of the main story. We might have to rewrite a bit of comics history...

I am not sure that "breaking the color barrier" (the shorthand qualification, as we understand it in the U.S.) applies to winning a contest in Europe. I read on english wikipedia that actor Robert Vaughn died in Ridgefield, Connecticut with these 2 sources : [6] and [7], one from Ridgefield and the other from The Hollywood Reporter. In fact if you read these 2 sources you will find that in all these 2 articles they don't tell exactly where he died, and believe me, I searched to find a source that say Ridgefield and I found nothing on the web. But The Washington Post [8] and The New York Times [9] tell that he died in Danbury, Connecticut... He lived in Ridgefield, but he died in a hospice in Danbury with his family around him, no ? Arrival

Hello again - thanks for your post on my page. The issue with Arrival is that this page has, for a little while, been subject to frequent edits eager to make the point that Louise is a single mother. I've seen the movie twice now, and I really don't think this is key to the plot. The only clue is the sequence (part of her future visions) where Louise tries to explain to her daughter why her father left, and the viewer is left to assume this was because she kept her foreknowledge a secret from him. But we have no way of knowing whether they are still separated by the time her daughter dies (which appears the most likely assumption) or whether they got back together but he wasn't present at her death, or indeed he may have died in the meantime. It simply isn't material to the plot, and my firm view of our pages is that the plot summary should represent factually what actually happens in the film, and not individual viewers' personal opinions as to what might be the story 'behind the scenes'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ‎IanB2 (talk • contribs) 21:32, 11 December 2016

Why did you remove my edit for this film? The film blatantly states he can not control minds hence why he tries to take Xavier's body. All he did was take over Cerebro which has been stated throughout the series to be used to increase psi powers. That is all the machine does. I would like to ask your advice (if and when you will have time) about the birthplace of actress Mary Carlisle who is still alive and is aged 102. The wiki article tell that her birthname is Gwendolyn L. Witter but the citation needs a reference. And it say that she was born in Boston with a ref from a newspaper. But if you read the newspaper they say she was from Boston but they don't tell explicitely she was BORN in Boston. See on Familysearch a document from 1935 of immigration. If you look on the document you will see Mary Carlisle and his mother a line higher "Leona Carlisle" who matches "Leona" Witter for the mother name on the blog. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZQW-ZCR That's the connection. And if you see my comments on my talk page look at the page facebook of Mary Carlisle, she is still alive at 102 and on a post there is a document from MGM citing she was born in Boston in 1912 but on a comment he explains that Mary is born in 1914 but lied about her age in 1929 to have a contract dancer in Hollywood. I think you have done well to put the 2 possible birthdates with no city until you are sure. I've done the same thing a long time ago about the french wikipedia article for Dorothy Malone. At any rate, Favre's comment is no indication of unforgivingness, just a statement that the source was not the problem. Variety is a reliable source for movie information. Reading the WP:indiscriminate article will help explain the real problem? In addition, the sentence from Variety that you used gave prominence to Disiney's business success, and that is material for an article on Disney, not CA:CW or any other Disney film. Marvel Studios Article

I am responding to the warning regarding my edits on the Marvel Studios article. My intention was never to have an edit-war, but to revise the previous edits I made so that there would be credibility with the point about Marvel Studios' films reflecting Marvel, which I thought was an important point to make, especially as it is what differentiates (in part), the MCU films from the licensed films. While third party companies such as Fox distribute films based on Marvel characters (with Marvel Entertainment involved in production), Marvel Studios' films are films that come directly from Marvel that Marvel Entertainment has more freedom to market with and use for franchising. My hopes were that the edit I submitted would be more acceptable than the original edit, not to cause any trouble with other editors. I apologize that this came out differently.

And for Lesley Nicol, you are right when you revert all who put his birthdate as 19 June, 1953 because on the source I put in his article for his birthplace, the Daily Mail, she was 63 on May 26, 2016 implies she was born before May 27, 1953 and here on the Express [10] published May 6, 2015, she is aged 62 implies she was born before May 7, 1953 hence with these two proofs we know she can't be born June 19, 1953. I found a site in French who tells that she was born on 6 April, 1953 [11], but since it is in French, it is better that we let only 1953 in the article.
