July 2022[edit]

ANI notice[edit]

Hi, Tancredileone, There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding your use of aggressive tone with other editors. You can find the discussion here, and you are welcome to participate in the discussion. Mathglot (talk) 23:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Now I really don't get why I've been blocked, however I still have a huge issue with my REAL NAME (identity), being defamed and discredited publicly. Anyone care to explain how we can figure this out? I really have not threatened anyone, just mentioned that you are all using pseudonymous which it is kind of convenient. While
my REAL NAME is displayed everywhere. Tancredileone (talk) 09:45, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The explanation for your block is in the block notice - you indicated that you would pursue legal action if the issues you encountered were not resolved to your satisfaction. That is considered a legal threat, and you may not edit here while that threat stands. If you wish to resolve the other issues, you must first withdraw that threat.
When you created this account, at the very top of the page was the following piece of advice: Consider using a username other than your real name, as usernames are public and cannot be made private later. If you withdraw the legal threat and your account is unblocked, there are ways in which you can change your username and use a different one going forward, but you will not be able to go back and remove mentions of it on pages where it has already been mentioned. Girth Summit (blether) 09:56, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you don't mind me chiming in here Girth Summit, but to perhaps soothe the OP's state of mind - I believe that ANI is 'hidden' from Google's search engine, so people Googling your name won't find any missteps you have made here; edits you have made using your real name will fairly quickly be buried under a pile of other edits (and again will not be spotted by Google); and talkpages such as this can be blanked or archived so that people would have to know to go digging in order to find anything about you. This probably seems quite frightening right now, but if you withdraw the legal threats, get yourself unblocked, and choose to change your username or consider a clean start if you meet the requirements, it will all disappear into the vastness of Wikipedia within weeks if not sooner. Take a deep breath and listen to what Girth Summit is telling you. StartGrammarTime (talk) 10:19, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I really hope you are right @StartGrammarTime I've already withdrawn and made a statement twice now, using this {{unblock|reason=Your reason here [[User:Tancredileone|Tancredileone]] ([[User talk:Tancredileone#top|talk]]) 10:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)}}[reply]
mentioning that I never made legal or other type of threats. Is this enough? What shall I do to get unblocked and fix this? Tancredileone (talk) 10:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very sorry but I don't have enough experience to help you with your unblock request - I just wanted to make sure you knew that things were not as bad as they might seem right now. Have a look at your block notice; there's a guide on how to appeal blocks that should be helpful. Good luck, and when you're unblocked I look forward to seeing you make some great contributions to Wikipedia. StartGrammarTime (talk) 10:32, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I suppressed the unblock template above, as you seemed to be using it as an example, not to make an unblock request. To make an unblock request, place that coding at the bottom of this page and replace the words "your reason here" with your statement. 331dot (talk) 10:41, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I already did that as pointed out earlier. Tancredileone (talk) 10:46, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anywhere in your edit history since being blocked where you made an unblock request. 331dot (talk) 10:53, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
then adding this {{unblock|reason=Your reason here 37.161.148.125 (talk) 11:01, 26 July 2022 (UTC)}} as suggested does not work. Ive added it multiple times and replace the dummy text with "I withdraw the legal threat" 37.161.148.125 (talk) 11:01, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

July 2022[edit]

Stop icon
You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia while the threats stand or the legal action is unresolved.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Girth Summit (blether) 09:41, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As the links in the block notice above make clear, legal threats are not permitted here. You are free to pursue legal remedies, naturally, but you cannot edit here while doing so, or while threatening to do so. If you wish to edit here, you need to make an unblock request which unambiguously withdraws any threat to pursue legal channels to resolve the issues you have encountered here. We cannot explore the other matters you raised on the ANI thread while that threat remains in place. I also warn you that if you double down on the threat here, your ability to edit this talk page will be revoked. Girth Summit (blether) 09:48, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok the thing is I have not made any threats. I've listed couple of options, which still seem to apply, remove any content with my REAL NAME on it. Allow me to edit my REAL NAME out and use a pseudonymous as the rest of you. The third option was a meant to be a deterrent not a threat so dear @Girth Summit you might have misunderstood or misinterpreted my intentions here.
Does it seem ok to you that my REAL NAME and identity are publicly defamed and discredited? How would you feel about that if a bunch of people hiding their identities would that to you? I formally hereby state that no legal or other type of threats were ever made and will be made by me. Tancredileone (talk) 09:56, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see no difference between a deterrent and a threat as far as the wording of the WP:NLT policy is concerned. As I said, you must withdraw that completely before you may continue editing here. See also my comment above regarding your username. Girth Summit (blether) 09:58, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Tancredileone (talk) 10:18, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Tancredileone, just to respond to your 08:47 comment at ANI: first, I am not an admin, just a user, like you, although with a lot of experience so I understand how things work around here. I'm sorry things have come to this pass, but it's still possible to extricate yourself; the main thing now, is not to overreact, and to take things step by step. To your other points from that message (by your numbers):

  1. forget this all happened *lesson learned – that's a good goal. You can delete almost anything you want on this page, your user talk page, but per WP:TPO and other guidelines, usually not on other pages. (There's one kind of message I'm aware of that you're not allowed to delete, which is notification of a declined block appeal; perhaps there are others.)
  2. You allow me to edit my name out and use a pseudonym – Girth Summit has addressed this separately on this page. Since you are currently blocked, it's important to address first things first (the block); once that is done, we can come back to this. Don't worry, your concerns about your name will be taken care of in due course; maybe not by removing it, but there are ways. First things first.
  3. if left no recourse take legal action – That's what got you blocked, and Girth has explained this already. Next step for you is to issue a block appeal and get yourself unblocked. Please read the instructions carefully; try not to be argumentative, and don't include any irrelevant stuff that isn't about appealing your block (i.e., why others didn't also get reprimanded or blocked is irrelevant; getting your name deleted from posts or your username changed is irrelevant), just stick to the narrow requirements of a block appeal and concentrate on that. If you have questions, ask.

Hope this helps, Mathglot (talk) 13:05, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Hey, Tancredileone! The problem is that digital marketing companies get paid to insert links to commercial businesses into Wikipedia articles. So when someone's very first edits are to do that, we assume that's what the person is here for: they're getting paid by a client to insert advertising into Wikipedia. It is a problem we are constantly having to clean up after, and since we're all volunteers here, we get a bit fed up that others are getting paid to make messes we're going to have to clean up when we'd rather use our volunteer hours on other things.

Over at Teahouse, you wrote: If none of the above options work, we would have to ask what the competent authorities think of this and possibly if left no recourse take legal action. Then above, you say: I formally hereby state that no legal or other type of threats were ever made. But you did make a legal threat, what you said is very clear: "if left no recourse take legal action." So denying you made it probably isn't going to get you unblocked. You're going to actually have to come right out and say "I withdraw the legal threat".

I'm sorry you didn't see the instructions when you signed up that advised not to use your real name, but unfortunately there's no way to make the original username go completely away, which is why we recommend up front that you don't use it. Once you're unblocked, you can change your username. Don't change it to the name of your company, though, Wikipedia doesn't allow that. valereee (talk) 12:58, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would add that we can't stop you from taking legal action if that's what you want to do. But you cannot make legal threats on Wikipedia, and if you choose to undertake a legal action, you cannot edit until the legal matter is concluded. You can puruse your grievances in the courts of your country or on Wikipedia, but not both. If you wish to withdraw the legal threat, you need to unequivocally state that in an unblock request. 331dot (talk) 13:03, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'll just add that what reinforces the suspicion that you were trying to use Wikipedia for marketing purposes is the fact that the company whose link you added is one of your clients. Any commercial connection to any subject you write about or any links you include must be declared according to WP:PAID policy. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:46, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Signatures without a comment[edit]

Tancredileone, please note that there is no point to adding your signature to this page without making any comment at all, as you did here, here, here, and here. If you want to acknowledge that you have read a message, but don't wish to respond to its content, just write:

Acknowledged. ~~~~

including leading colons for the proper level of indent. But empty signatures look like mistakes or test edits, and may get deleted. Please add at least one message word before your signature. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 17:35, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ive made the comment Ive typed into the brackets replaced "Your reason here 37.163.185.243 (talk) 17:57, 25 July 2022 (UTC)" with "I withdraw the legal threat" as you requested. Now if that doesn't work then I don't know what else shall I do.[reply]
@Tancredileone, your unblock request isn't appearing and I don't see anything in the page history to tell us where it is. Can I suggest making a new request? Go back up to the block notice Girth Summit left you and follow the instructions exactly - you need to copy and paste the {{unblock|reason etc etc bit into a reply to the block notice, change the 'your reason here' part to the actual reason, and then post that. If you do that you should see a new box appear saying you are requesting an unblock, and it will alert the admins so someone can come have a look. StartGrammarTime (talk) 09:49, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

unblock request[edit]

Clearly editing this template is confusing this new user, and I don't think learning how to edit a template properly should be part of the requirements for making an unblock request. Tancredileone, log in and reply to me here by saying, "I withdraw the legal threat." Then type four tildes so that you've signed the statement. valereee (talk) 11:35, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
