Hey stifle

What do you think of this File:20090913-madonna-mtv-vma-07.jpg from commons? Is it really free or a copyright violation? I can't seem to determine seeing the users uploads. --Legolas (talk2me) 11:33, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Hmm. I think it could be a press photographer submitting it, but it needs an OTRS ticket. Stifle (talk) 11:38, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Future plc

Excuse me but which edit are you claiming by me in unconstructive. I've made 2 edits on Future plc. This one [1] and this one [2]. My only other contributions were reverting anonymous IP's who have been deleting parts of it without explanation. Ban them instead. Barnsey Boo (talk) 15:54, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

The readdition of the security codes for Future's buildings. Stifle (talk) 16:04, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
The security code is just the basis for the name of the monthly mag which we (yes I work for Future) publish. It is ensoconced on the sources and also in the website of the security company called Safe & Sound UK Ltd. Barnsey Boo (talk) 16:13, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Could you look at...

Stifle, as someone generally on the other side of the inclusionism/exclusionism debate from me could you look at this and weigh in? Hobit (talk) 16:37, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

I can't see what DRV is being referenced there. Can you shed some light? Stifle (talk) 18:53, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I'd meant to include a link. This one.
Thanks, I obviously disagree with your opinion, but I appreciate it being tossed in there. Hobit (talk) 22:01, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

thoughts

Hey Stifle, thought you might be interested in a SBL discussion here. cheers--Hu12 (talk) 05:05, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I'm familiar with it. Hadn't been commenting as there was nothing much for me to add. Stifle (talk) 09:02, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

HI again (Summit Tunnel Fire images)

Following your advice (now in your November archive) I waited a while then received this ticket number in an email from permissions@wikimedia.org: Ticket#2009110510056939. Their email simply said thank you for my email. What happens next in relation to getting these permitted images approved for use? Does the ticket number signify something, if so where can I track it? Regards, Leaky Caldron 12:12, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Have you tried reading down to the bottom of the email? Stifle (talk) 14:57, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
OK. I've no idea why a reply email would split/render in such a way. I had not looked at the bottom of what was already a lengthy chain mail. It all seems a bit bureaucratic TBH. The owner has given express permission by email and now I have to request her to send her permission in a particular format. I'm tempted not to bother, but thanks for you help anyway. Orphaned non-free image File:Yoshi3.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Yoshi3.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Yoshi

I readded the Yoshi's Island Yoshi after new image precedents. For example, we use neither the Spirit Tracks Link or the Twilight Princess Link on Link (The Legend of Zelda), but rather the original Zelda design. In this case, we needn't use the most up-to-date design or the 3D design but instead we should use something more identifiable with him.

I'm wondering, if I found significant reception information over the Yoshi's Island design of Yoshi, do you accept the use of the Yoshi's Island image? - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 19:39, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

There was a consensus to use the Brawl image; if you wish to change the image, please gather a consensus for that on Talk:Yoshi. Stifle (talk) 20:09, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Why wouldn't the best image be the one that covers something that has received critical commentary? Logically, the image used should be what has the most and best coverage. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 20:28, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
As I said, there was a consensus that the Brawl image was the highest-quality and most appropriate. The point you raised came up in the discussion, which you'll find in the Talk:Yoshi archives; you are welcome to start a new discussion at that page if you have a new argument. Stifle (talk) 09:15, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Already done so. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 09:16, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Ravi Palat

Dear Stifle - made a new page on Ravi Arvind Palat with notability more clearly established - via membership of editorial boards of reviewed journals, book published with leading publisher - and reviewed in peer reviewed jounrnal, full professorship in the leading dept in his field at noted US University. Hope it is OK now. Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 11:40, 15 December 2009 (UTC))

It looks OK to me, but I don't have any special authority to approve or reject pages. Stifle (talk) 11:58, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry to have bothered you. I must have misread something. I thought you were the administrator who had decided that he was a non-notable academic. Best wishes anyway (Msrasnw (talk) 14:44, 15 December 2009 (UTC))

Hi -- Frederick Haer doesn't make DBS equipment to the best of my knowledge -- can you substantiate the link you added? Regards, Looie496 (talk) 21:13, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Came through OTRS actually; the correspondent has been informed that I couldn't guarantee the link would stay so there is nothing more to be done. Stifle (talk) 21:23, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll think about what to do here. Looie496 (talk) 00:36, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

User:ElPilotoDi

Back again I'm afraid. And continuing to upload inappropriate images. Do you think an IP range bloack is in upping? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Legolas2186 (talkcontribs) 08:45, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Given a warning (in case it's not the same user). If he uploads anything else, let me know and I'll block. You need WP:SPI for rangeblocks, and I don't know if you'll get one. Stifle (talk) 10:38, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Mark Clemmit

Hi i would like to ask if you could post some stuff about mark clemmit for me?. Could you say he has earned something of a cult following for his funny and insightful reports on the football league show?. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bbchome (talkcontribs) 00:05, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Why don't you post it for yourself? You can post any information as long as it's relevant and verifiable, and meets the other Wikipedia policies. Stifle (talk) 18:26, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Request

Dear Stifle, I should be most grateful if you would kindly make an effort for saving the photograph being discussed here. Kind regards, --BF 07:26, 20 December 2009 (UTC).

Dear Stifle, thank you for your very valuable comment on the above-mentioned page. You may be interested to know that that removal tag has now been suppressed by User:Peripitus. With kind regards, --BF 13:20, 21 December 2009 (UTC).

Hi, you deleted this article some time ago due to this AfD. The article was recently recreated and from a glance it doesn't appear to have addressed the problems presented in the AfD. Can you look at the deleted version and see if this new page qualifies for a G4 speedy? If not, I'll probably have to send it back to AfD. Thanks, ThemFromSpace 03:34, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Looks like User:Kuru has already taken care of this one. Sorry for the late reply; RL is hating on me at the moment. Stifle (talk) 09:48, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

File:Insidethe Rev.jpg

I've deleted this image, as it was tagged as nonfree-with-no-rationale for more than a week. Some days ago, you tagged the image with an OTRS-received template (ticket 2009111710033771), but didn't change the licensing. Was the email insufficient for permission? Please restore the image if permission was satisfactory. Nyttend (talk) 04:59, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Permission was not satisfactory (the email gave only permission to use on Wikipedia); I'll restore it in due course if we get better permission. Thanks for the note. Stifle (talk) 09:50, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

FYI

You've got mail. Thanks. Wknight94 talk 15:10, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Missed Whitelist Request?

Several weeks ago, I suggested a page for whitelisting here and it hasn't been replied to by you whilst you have replied to the requests around it. This leads me to think that you may have missed it as opposed to just ignored it. This is simply to draw your attention to it as I would like to fix the issue in question ASAP. If you are holding off on the reply for any other reason, then sorry for pestering. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TomBeasley (talkcontribs) 22:48, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

I haven't missed it; I just can't decide whether to allow it or not. Stifle (talk) 09:38, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Could you take a look at the ffd of this file? The article Confessions Tour GA is pending because of it. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:12, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Done. Stifle (talk) 09:24, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
And elPilotoDi sock Resbusha's contributions has again became the same image related vandalism it was before. Deleting all the ffd tags and replacing non-free images with another non-free image. --Legolas (talk2me) 05:58, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
I'll have a look. Stifle (talk) 09:24, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Recreating Eugene F. Lally article

Can I get a copy of Eugene F. Lally as it was when you deleted it? I now have a number of secondary sources in hand, which I think will serve to establish notability, and I'd rather not start from scratch. Dicklyon (talk) 19:25, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Sure, done at User:Dicklyon/Eugene F. Lally. Stifle (talk) 22:44, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Klepacki followup

Just a small followup-note for the images by Frank Klepacki. May you have noticed that all images by Klepacki are back in the article. I finally got an OTRS ticket for the images. Thanks for you help --D-Kuru (talk) 17:46, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

I'll take it there's nothing more for me to do then. Stifle (talk) 21:46, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank You

If it were not for you and User:Eagles247, I would have destroyed Wikipedia's reputation. Bdfjhkgj (talk) 21:51, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Comment on User Page

I like your fake "New Messages" template on the top of your user page. That really fooled me the first time I viewed your page! Bdfjhkgj (talk) 21:51, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
