Image:Bolívar coa.gif[edit]

Hello, Stifle. I see you added {{fairusein3}} to Image:Bolívar coa.gif, but did not include a fair-use rationale explaining why the image meets the criteria of the Wikipedia fair-use policy. Do you suppose you could add one? —Bkell (talk) 22:00, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This image has been deleted, so the matter is now moot. Stifle (talk) 20:15, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

imjin war[edit]

Hello Mr. Stifle,

The Imjin War has been moved to "Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea" a couple months ago when another admin suddenly took the move tag off. Could you please take a look again at the discussions? The other side doesn't seem to be listening to my argument but I believe that Imjin War should be used because I have several strong points.

The other side says Imjin War is not an English word, it is not commonly used, and that it is POV. Please take a look at this bogged down argument. It is heavily setting back the progress of the article. thank you. Good friend100 01:59, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please link me to the exact page. Stifle (talk) 19:01, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Mu Upsilon Alpha[edit]

Why did you delete the article on Mu Upsilon Alpha? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rscibett (talkcontribs) 17:55, 26 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Hi, and thanks for your message. Don't forget you need to sign your messages by adding ~~~~ on at the end.
This article was deleted because it described a club without asserting why that club is notable or important. Please read our guidelines for notability of clubs.
If you wish to challenge the decision to delete this article, you may do so by listing it at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Stifle (talk) 18:21, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Can you please stop the vandal.

He uploades copyvio and falsifies licenses. For example here:[2] he inserted in his image a license which was copied from another image (the author explicitely gave me permission for a number of images, it was very long ago).

He now vandalizes the Moscow article without stop, deleting the proper relevant images and inserting his copivio and comletely irrelevant. He also moves images so they appear inproperly. He does not discuss any changes any way.--Nixer 21:46, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. I will look into this, but please note for the future that leaving a message on one admin's talkpage is usually not very effective. For one thing, that admin might not be online. It is best to leave it on one of the admin noticeboards like WP:AIV or WP:ANI. Stifle (talk) 21:52, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On further review, I am unconvinced of any copyvios, but both parties have violated 3RR. Nixer gets 48h given that this is something like his 10th 3RR vio, and Fisss 24h. Stifle (talk) 22:03, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I've listed him on AFD because the two albums and two EPs appear to be all self-published with nothing third-party written about him whatsoever. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 19:45, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to Reading Fans[edit]

As an administrator, I'm sure you're aware you should be proposing articles for deletion, if there are grounds to do so. The above article had a speedy delete template applied, with no criterion for deletion stated. If speedy deletion is not applicable, deletion should be proposed on WP:AfD. I've reverted the page to the last genuine version. Robwingfield (talk) 22:22, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. However, I did not delete the page. If a page should be deleted, I use the relevant process (assuming it is not a speedy). I, or any other editor, can change a page to a redirect if this is indicated. The page Reading Fans probably qualifies for speedy deletion under CSD:A7 (unremarkable people/groups); instead of deleting I chose to redirect it to a reasonable target. WP:RFA/Cynical[edit]

Thank you for contributing to my RFA. Unfortunately it failed (final tally 26/17/3). As a result of the concerns raised in my RFA, I intend to undergo coaching, get involved in the welcoming committee and try to further improve the quality of my contributions to AFD and RFA. All the best. Cynical 14:58, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes[edit]

I'm confused why you don't want bots fixing your userboxes. If you don't want them editing your user page then you'll end up with userboxes like this:

Per the Userbox migration, {{User Astronomy}} was moved to {{User:The Raven's Apprentice/Userboxes/User Astronomy}}

If you don't want bots editing your user page, may I suggest removing userboxes in the template space, substing them all or fully protecting your user page? Otherwise bots will inevitably edit it still.--Andeh 17:57, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

user:Mig11 is attacking me on my talk page in albanian language. Please stop this or do something to block that person. I have deleted the attacks from my talk page, but they can be found on history. Thank you. --Aeternus 11:09, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aeternus attacked me first, by using very offensive terms. He does not like my taste of music and that is for him a reason to block me! he deleted the discuscion on his talk page, because his own words (in albanian) are offensive and a try to insult me! I for myself didn`t delete anything, because i do not have anything to hide, as you can see on my talk page! just because I was once blocked (for the first time in wiki, because of the 3rr-rule) he thinks that he can block me whenever he likes that. that is what he wrote in albanian in my talk-page! he is spreadin negativ propaganda in other user pages about me and my taste of music! this is unbeliveable! I hope you can judge this issue neutral (although I was blocked from you :)). Thank you.--Mig11 11:23, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I do not speak Albanian and am therefore unable to judge whether anyone has been attacked here. I don't know of any admins who do speak it, although you may be able to find one by making a post on WP:AN/I. Stifle (talk) 13:37, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Stifle, I hope you will find someone who knowns albanian language and will translate this 'riot'. Otherwise, I don't want to welcome any word from user:Mig11, neither on my talk page. I wan't to stop Mig11 from writing in my talk page. I hope that this option is allowed. Hope that you will find a translator, --Aeternus 14:19, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, I will not be finding someone who knows Albanian, but you can attempt to do so at WP:AN/I if you haven't already done. You cannot stop someone writing in your talk page; you can remove his messages (but this is discouraged, archiving it is better). If you ask him on his talk page not to bother you, then persistent attempts by him to do so could be considered negatively in later dispute resolution. Finally, you also have the option to post a request for comments. Stifle (talk) 20:29, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Desperately Need help on blanking and POV editing of Tamilnet by User:snowolfd4[edit]

I have been making some edits to Tamilnet which have been repeatedly reverted with POV and propaganda from the ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka without any qualifications of the text by user User:Snowolfd4. I have added a list of justifications for my changes. But this user has never bothered to answer them and gone ahead given very terse statements for his reverts. This is pretty much vandalism. I have in turn added citations from a reputable source, namely a journal article on Tamilnet.com by Whitaker, Mark P. "Tamilnet.com: Some Reflections on Popular Anthropology, Nationalism, and the Internet" Anthropological Quarterly - Volume 77, Number 3, Summer 2004, pp. 469-498 George Washington University Institute for Ethnographic Research. He has reverted my citations claiming in effect that this peer-reviewed scholarly journal article is the following:

According to Official WP policy Personal websites, blogs, and other self-published or vanity publications should not be used as secondary sources. That is, they should not be used as sources of information about a person or topic other than the owner of the website, or author of the book. The reason personal websites are not used as secondary sources — and as primary sources only with great caution and not as a sole source if the subject is controversial — is that they are usually created by unknown individuals who have no one checking their work. They may be uninformed, misled, pushing an agenda, sloppy, relying on rumor and suspicion, or even insane; or they may be intelligent, careful people sharing their knowledge with the world. Only with independent verification by other sources not holding the same POV is it possible to determine the difference.

He has claimed pretty much all the sources, including the journal article not to be a reliable source, with very very dubious edit summaries. I desperately need administrator intervention on this. This is getting to be very frustrating when a user claims that a peer-reviewed scholarly journal article is an unreliable source and then goes ahead and blanks legitimate cited contents. He has already been blocked for edit warring before and has a history of POV pushing and blanking. Thanks, Elalan 21:28, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will be looking into this but in future, please use WP:ANI to post alerts that any admin could deal with, as it is likely that it will be dealt with quicker there. Stifle (talk) 17:56, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend taking part in the mediation case. I will not be issuing any sanctions - I note I have already blocked Snowolfd4 for 24 hours. Stifle (talk) 18:51, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you provide the diff please. Syiem 05:42, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[3] Stifle (talk) 17:54, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your concern. Although the edit may not have been vandalism "technically" but is by no means a "good faith edit" either, especially considering the number of times the user has reverted to the same version in the last few days. Cheers! Syiem 06:19, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Permanent Solution[edit]

Do you mind taking a proactive role in dealing with the user you recently 3RR-blocked? The user has quite a history behind him and his behavior remains unchanged..[4]. --Palffy 21:34, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't seem to have blocked User:Kwame Nkrumah lately. Are you sure you have the right person? Stifle (talk) 21:36, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm 100% positive. Just read the page carefully, as well as the discussion if you need clarification. --Palffy 21:39, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. (Although you could have pointed it out and saved some time.) I've blocked Panairjedde, or however you spell it, indefinitely as a sock of a banned user. Stifle (talk) 21:48, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Hello. You left a message on my talk page about an image I tagged for speedy deletion. Sorry I tagged it incorrectly. Also, I think I may have mad a mistake about some of my complaints on it's source info, but I'm not sure. - [rts_freak] | 5p34k 2 /\/\3 07:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An appeal for reason[edit]

Hello, I'm posting here to urge you to reconsider your indefinate block on User:Panarjedde. This account is not a Sockpuppet, but a legitimate, new account. Ask admin User:Llywrch, they reached an agreement which was posted on AN/I. Moreover, under both Panairjdde and Panarjedde accounts, this user has been contributing to the project since June of 2002 [5] . Even many of his detractors and opponents acknowledge he's a prolific and dedicated editor. Please reconsider, we all make mistakes...even admins. So let's assume good faith and cut eachother some slack. Thank you--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 18:59, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RDH is describing the situation fairly accurately. I had convinced Panarjedde/Panairjdde to take a two-week wikibreak some time back, & while I admit I haven't been following his actions closely following his return, he appears to have once again become a positive contributor. However, he & Palffy appear to have some kind of fight going on, which has caused him to lose his temper -- which I suspect was the reason for his last rampage. (One thing working with P. has taught me is that treating other Wikipedians like fellow humans can fix a lot of problems.) I'm in the process of trying to talk to P. & figure out just what is going on. Could you reconsider this indefinite block until I've had a chance to talk with him? -- llywrch 19:40, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Based on these representations of long-established users in good standing, I have unblocked him. (However, if he is a legitimate new account, why did he admit to being a sock?) I leave the matter in llywrch's capable hands. Stifle (talk) 21:28, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A legitimate and new account? There's nothing legitimate about this user. Just because he has been contributing since June 2002 doesn't give him any credibility considering the amount of garbage and hassle he has brought to wikipedia in the past 2 years (COUNTLESS 3RR rule breaks, sockpuppetry, wikilawyering with admins, users, disrespecting users, the list goes on.., probably the biggest issue, which is why I'm pursuing this, is his inability to listen to ANYONE). I also wish you could find some of his detractors and opponents that find what you argue, because I can come up with a signed list of 50+ people who will argue otherwise. Admins such as Llywrch have been cutting this user too much slack for 2 years now (I honestly do not know why..is he to difficult for you to handle? Are you afraid of blocking some ips? Are you scared you'll offend a person who acts like a 10 year old--for all we know, he could be a 10 year old..) and look at where this is getting you. Perhaps Llywrch should respond to my and other user's concerns on the CheckUser page, rather than 'assuming good faith' as he has throughout dealings with this user. And PLEASE, I've never fought with this user, nor have I ever broken one of WPs rules. But seeing as though the admins who have been dealing with this character (that you includes you, Llywrch) cannot act appropriately in response to PROVEN AND REPEATED INSTANCES OF TRANSGRESSION by this user, I will be seeking others to deal with issue if our friend Panarjedde continues his behavior (and I am 100% certain he will, since he has even after he admitted to doing everything that I, Ruylong, and others have claimed). --Palffy 22:45, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Palffy, he has not been cut any slack; I blocked him for 6 weeks, & even convinced him to take a Wikibreak for another two weeks as proof his good faith. However, I notice that you & him disagreed over an image you uploaded, so I don't think you are quite the innocent party you describe yourself. Should your disagreement with him escalate, it just might result with both of you being sanctioned by the ArbCom. I advise you to let this matter drop while I ask him for his side of the story. If you have further concerns, because this matter no longer directly involves Stifle please post them on my Talk page. -- llywrch 22:57, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Stifle

I see you listed as a deletionist. I was wondering if the deletionists ever review Cleanup. I keep finding articles that I feel don't meet inclusion standards. Should I just go ahead and AfD them? Some have been languishing for a year. Is anyone else interested and sorting some chaff out of the wheat.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 21:18, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend {{subst:prod|reason}} myself, but there's nothing wrong with AFDing them either. I don't tend to deal with the cleanup queue as I don't have much time any more (I just spend time at CAT:CSD more than anything else).
Incidentally feel free to use User:Stifle/Delete unless cleaned up in your nominations :) Stifle (talk) 18:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Cool.Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 04:33, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Bell Deletion[edit]

why has my article on Tony Bell been deleted? he is a real person, quite well known in the UK. i even got him to add some stuff to his own page! and some overzealous type has deleted the page! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chisa12345 (talkcontribs) 18:58, 27 October 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for your message. In future, please sign your messages on talk pages by adding ~~~~ at the end.
Tony Bell was speedily deleted because it appeared to be an article about a real person which does not express how that person is notable or important. See WP:BIO for a list of criteria of inclusion.
If in your opinion Tony Bell meets the criteria for inclusion, you may re-add the article, but you must also include citations from reliable sources that back up the claims made, so that the article will be verifiable. Stifle (talk) 19:03, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use images in lists[edit]

Hello, I see you have contributed your thoughts to Wikipedia talk:Fair use/Fair use images in lists. It's been dead for a while, but I have archived it and taken a new fresh start. I hope this time we will be able to achieve something as I have summarized the main points of both sides (feel free to improve them) and I call you to express your support or oppose on the concrete proposal that I have formulated. Thanks, Renata 02:17, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

tony bell - again[edit]

why does this page keep being deleted? can you give me a clear reason. if not i will no longer contribute to wikipedia as it is becoming a thankless task with too many moderators lurking around with nothing better to do than stick their nose in for no reason. --Chisa12345 15:17, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will repeat the reply I gave to you previously:
Tony Bell was speedily deleted because it appeared to be an article about a real person which does not express how that person is notable or important. See WP:BIO for a list of criteria of inclusion.
If in your opinion Tony Bell meets the criteria for inclusion, you may re-add the article, but you must also include citations from reliable sources that back up the claims made, so that the article will be verifiable.
I hope you find this understandable. Note that it is no longer possible to re-add the article, but you may make a listing on Wikipedia:Deletion review if you disagree with the deletion. Additionally, if you can show me the reason from WP:BIO, along with some citations from reliable sources to back that up, that he meets the criteria for inclusion, I'll happily undelete the page.
If there are any other questions I can answer for you, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for editing Wikipedia. Stifle (talk) 15:22, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're not a banana![edit]

Let me thank you for saving my Kong page from speedy deletion. As an avid fan of obscure music, I enjoy contributing such info to Wikipedia to help round things out and possibly draw more attention to the bands (not to be confused with advertising). I believe that speedy deletion template was posted in error and I contested it the moment it was put up. Again, thanks for flexing your administrative muscle in my favor. Filter1987 15:51, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What's wrong with my page?[edit]

Hi, I'm sort of new and wondered why SS Timothy Bloodworth was nominated for deletion. I'd like to fix whatever is wrong, but I'm afraid n-n boat doesn't mean much to me. I am working on another page for SS John Stagg, as well, and if there's a problem, I'd like to avoid it. Thanks. PapaSmirk 17:18, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"NN" is an abbreviation for "not notable". Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information; it's customary to only include notable topics. That's why the Mayflower is included, but the SS Box of Roses isn't. Stifle (talk) 19:25, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would make the argument that "there was a whole page of broken links there, begging for articles to point to"; or the argument that "if I cared enough to look it up and there were references out there for me to find, that it stands to reason someone else might appreciate having it around, or might have more to add". But having to beg for the life of a US-military stub from someone calling themselves "Stifle" is a bit too ironic for a Sunday night. Stifle if you must, but it certainly seems indiscriminate to me.
