Welcome[edit]

Hello, Steve Janke, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I see that you've been editing here for quite a while, but somehow failed to get one of our "welcome packages" for new contributors. Here's some recommended reading:

(One of the ...um... interesting things about Wikipedia is that we keep fine-tuning our policies and improving the software, so these links are also recommended re-reading for all editors.)

We hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. If you have any questions, clicking here will allow you to leave a message for me.

On a more personal note: thanks for your blog from an occasional reader. CWC 06:56, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Frisch[edit]

After some thought, I've reverted your recent edit to Deborah Frisch, for a variety of reasons.

  1. When we say something controversial, Wikipedia rules require us to cite a Verifiable and Reliable source for it, and a blog post is not good enough in this situation. See Talk:Deborah Frisch for more on this.
  2. The Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy requires us to be especially careful with negative statements about living people (largely out of common decency, but also to avoid lawsuits).
  3. IIRC, Dr F has already complained to Wikipedia about her article.
  4. I'm concerned that we might spark another bout of destructive behaviour by Dr F. She has edited Wikipedia (of course!) and may still watch the article, especially now her blogs keep being deleted.

This is a classic example of one of the paradoxical things about Wikipedia: we don't "tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth", we just report verifiable facts from reliable sources. I'm quite certain she did what you said, but Wikipedia rules stop us from saying so. (With most people, it would be OK to say something like "a blogger has alleged ...", but not with teh Deb, IMO.)

I hope you don't mind. If you disagree with my action, please discuss it with me or (less preferably) on Talk:Deborah Frisch. Cheers from Australia, CWC 12:32, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
