Re: Oliva[edit]

Please consider your reversion of Oliva at the 2013 albums of Heavy Metal. It is not "Jon Oliva's Pain", that band don't even exist anymore. It is actually Oliva, the first solo album by ex-Savatage leader Jon Oliva. Check the album cover and please don't get misleaded by the old and outdated source quoted. Thanks. Non-notable This is pretty much a perfect example of a non-notable band. Even if they were self-produced, unsigned, etc., they could be notable if there were sufficient citations from credible, verifiable third-party sources; there aren't. I'm marking this with {{db-band}}. Please post on my talk if you'd like to respond and in the future, feel free to be bold yourself and if you mistakenly suggest a page for deletion, there's no penalty. More Looking at the articles--which don't have assertions of notability--and doing a quick Google search make me confident that {{db-band}} and {{db-album}} apply here as well. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 13:45, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

Thanks Establishing notability involves two things (as I see it): an assertion that the topic is notable and a verifiable, credible source to prove it. Simply writing about (e.g.) a band and saying what occurred to them does not establish that it is notable. Statements such as appearing on the soundtrack to a motion picture are a start, but are altogether pretty weak. Have they appeared on a sales chart? Did they play at a large festival or tour with an established act? Have their albums been reviewed by the music press? These will further establish notability. Wikipedia does not publish original research, so anything that you add, should be supported by a verifiable source that is credible and preferably third-party. Consequently, on The Yellow Dogs, using MySpace is not a good source, as 1.) it has no editorial credibility and anyone can publish anything on the site and 2.) it is produced by the band itself, making it first-party; these sources are not banned strictly speaking, but it is difficult to prove that a topic is notable with first-party sources. Citations from the Huffington Post and Spinner are stronger as they are recognizable media outlets. I don't know anything about Iranian.com, so it could be a good source or a weak one.

Sorg Innkallelse references Metal-Archives in its external links and they are signed to a record label which does not have its own article on Wikipedia; this sort of article does not really establish notability. Tarantist does not establish notability at all: many bands have MySpace accounts or have released albums, but not all of them deserve articles in a general-interest encyclopedia. Sasy Mankan claims that one of his singles was more famous than his others, but how famous? How many copies did it sell? Did it appear on any charts or receive any sales certifications? Did it gain him notoriety outside of Iran?

Problems of asserting notability of Iranian acts are compounded by the fact that sources should ideally be in English on the English Wikipedia (but there is also a Persian Wikipedia where Persian sources are ideal.) Again, you can use Persian (or Urdu or Arabic) sources, but it's best to use English ones whenever possible. This should give you a pretty good overview of notability and if you need more help, you can continue to post to my talk or check out the help section or the Village Pump. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 14:31, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator intervention against vandalism[edit]

Thank you for your report on 79.127.9.204 at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. For future reference, here are a few points about reporting at Administrator intervention against vandalism.

  1. If you click on "edit" you will see some templates for reporting. The relevant one in this case is {{IPvandal|IP address}} brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~~~. There are several reasons why it is better to use these templates rather than hand-writing a new section, including the fact that it automatically provides links to user contributions etc, which is useful for admins considering the report, and the fact that a bot is programmed to automatically recognise reports in the standard format and deal with them appropriately.
  2. Administrator intervention against vandalism is for persistent vandalism. For a one-off event you can simply revert (as you did) and warn the user on their talk page.
  3. Except in very exceptional circumstances (such as serious libel) administrators will almost never take action against a vandal unless the vandal has received warnings and continued to vandalise after warnings. In this case no warnings were issued at all.
  4. I have reviewed the edits in question, and it seems to me that this may well be a good faith disagreement about the content of the article, rather than vandalism. It is not clear what the editor's intentions were, and it would have helped had they given edit summaries, but this does not seem to me to be unambiguously vandalism, and in doubtful cases we have to give the benefit of the doubt.

Please do make further vandalism reports when the need arises, but it will help if you take the above points into account. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:22, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Cardano (blockchain) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cardano (platform). When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Cardano (blockchain) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Cardano (blockchain), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. – bradv🍁 19:54, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AFD[edit]

Hi, the creator of an article is free to vote keep or merge etc at AFD as per WP:AFD. They can also remove a Proposed deletion template. What they must not do is to remove speedy deletion tags on articles they've created, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 00:56, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cardano sources[edit]

Hello, I have been keeping the Cardano draft alive for the past year using the talk page. In particular, I have built up reputable sources that can be used. I don't know if you have seen these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft_talk:Cardano_(cryptocurrency_platform)IOHKwriter (talk) 09:16, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It was not "unconstructive" and I have reverted YOUR reversion. The references does not support him being a mathematician and it is for you to provide evidence that he is. Frankly, your message on the IP talk page is unwelcome, bullying and unjustified. Please stick to verified, correctly referenced material. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.214.35.94 (talk) 18:43, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Kamkars.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kamkars.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. plicit 12:10, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
