MK parishes

I couldn't see why the revised title of Middelton (Milton Keynes Village) wasn't been propogated trough all the pages that used that template. Looking at it again today, the un-subst'd ones seem to be ok, so maybe it was just the server lag problem. Feel free to UNDO them. Otherwise I will when I get time. --John Maynard Friedman 13:59, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

T-Mobile

Regarding your reverts with the T-Mobile team: One thing IS certain: There will be no "T-Mobile team" anymore, since T-Mobile has officially stopped its cycling sponsorship. The team WILL continue for the time being, since Stapleton is the license holder anyway and the compensation for early contract release T-Mobile is paying ensures at least preliminary funding. But they will not continue as Team T-Mobile, since they cannot use that name anymore. The name "High Road" is being mentioned in the German press as the future name of the team. --213.209.110.45 (talk) 12:44, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

2008 UCI ProTour Teams template

Hey Severo,

I've got a start made on the new template here: User:Kellyunderwood/sandbox. I've got to ferret out the right Tour Europe etc pages, but feel free to add to it. I think I've got the name changes done, but isn't Cofidis changing at some point? And I don't know what to do with Unibet.com. kju (talk) 06:31, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Thanks for your note. And for the comments. I didn't mean to bring the Great Computer In The Sky to its knees!

The name question... As a general rule, the "van" in Dutch and Belgian names is lower case unless it starts a sentence. It is considered pretentious to capitalise "van", although you'd need to be Dutch or Belgian to explain why.

Similarly, the "de" in French names is lower case with the same exception of starting a sentence. In Dutch names, though, it's capitalised. So, Charles de Gaulle but Roger De Vlaeminck. (De Vlaeminck is an interesting case in that he has said publicly that he doesn't much care whether it's spelled De Vlaeminck or Devlaeminck.)

Other problems I think come from some nations not having accents on their keyboards. I have an AZERTY keyboard, so I have western European accents. What I don't have, on the other hand, are < and >, so when I want to introduce citations I have to copy them from somewhere else. The Great Computer program was obviously written by someone with a QWERTY keyboard!

I'll try to change the original reference from now on.

happy days

Flags in infoboxes

Good of you to ask. We have been running ragged fixing after people that love to see colorful flags all over infoboxes, especially in the set I follow in football (soccer). We have had discussions on this issue and have been reverting flags in infoboxes ever since.

The main reason is "not for use in locations of birth and death", which talks about nationality. They are not needed, and may be confusing, therefore they are deprecated. For example, I saw several cyclists that had a Belgian flag next to their country's name: Belgium. Yet a few were born elsewhere (ex: Igor Abakoumov). Do we show the original Ukrainian flag, or the Belgian flag? Just stating Belgium in text should be enough.

Another policy is "Help the reader rather than decorate", stating that adding a country's flag does not provide additional encyclopedic information.

This applies to all people's infoboxes and is generally overused in sports people.

For example, look at these:

Hope this helps you. -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 22:22, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Olympics tagging

You understand the sports much better than I do. If you think the banners should be moved, just cut them from the page that they're on and replace them on the correct page. If you wanted to change the names on the list yourself, they're at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations/Set Nominations/Sports recognized by the IOC. Alternately, just let me know which articles you've taken the {{0.7 set nom|Olympic events}} template off and which you've put them on, and I'll make the changes myself. But you clearly know the subject better than I, and I'll trust your judgement on these matters implicitly. Thanks for pointing out my errors. John Carter (talk) 01:10, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Tarck bike

I notice that you made several edits to the Track bike article. There is a deletion discussion on the article Tarck bike at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tarck bike. Please weigh in there if this is a real topic that deserves its own article or at least explain what this topic is so that others can decide if it should have an article. Thank you! Bicycle and Motorcycle Dynamics

Heh, don't let my relisting stop you from doing a copyedit ;-)

Yeah, some editors involved in the GA sweep project prefer to put articles "on hold" for a week before delisting. I've found that it's rare to get much response from a delisting, so it's easier to just relist if improvements happen on their own. Again, good job on improving it so quickly! --jwandersTalk 20:12, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Omnium

Hi Severo, I was just checking some recently changed articles in my watchlist of which one was the article about the omnium created by me. When I checked it I saw that you deleted one of the categories the article was in and I'm wondering why you did that? Thanks for taking the time to read and answer this. AmandaT/C 07:16, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Got it, and it makes sense indeed, thank you. AmandaT/C 10:54, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough

Although I could argue that Max's 'merited inclusion' in the Nepotism section would be equivalent to that particular user's inclusion in the a****ole section :-) Given the whole issue was simply a continuation of nasty comments directed at a teenager on the Guardian, perhaps I could say rather than a mean comment I was actually attempting to state a fact! But then I would be breaking the assume good faith rule! Sorry 221.133.101.80 (talk) 10:36, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Ghostbike

What's wrong with calling Ghostbike a fringe organisation? My point was it's not exactly the London Cycling Campaign, unlikely more than a few people are involved. This is a minor element of cycling subculture and the article needs to make this clear. Can you add any more information to clarify? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ProfDEH (talkcontribs) 08:25, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

A reminder for everyone here. Check the page history: I made no edits to this page. Keep your comments where they're relevant, this comment was posted here, at WikiProject Cycling and at the article talk page; the article talk page is the only relevant place for such discussion. A lesson for people here

I received this rather terse vandalism warning when I was editing some cycling articles one day.

Rather confused, I asked the person who placed the warning what it was about with the following message on their talk page.

Huh?

What on earth is this for? SeveroTC 23:03, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Within a couple of minutes the user had removed the vandalism warning from my page. A few hours later they removed my question from their page. All without any further discussion or anything. Whilst I recognise the swift action they took to correct my mistake, I was upset they assumed so little good faith in issuing a {{uw-vandalism4im}} warning (which should only be given very rarely) and even less Wikiquette in not giving a short apology on the issue. This is my second case of mistaken identity within a week. The first time, above, was by a new user who retracted his attribution to me and apologised which is fine: mistakes happened and we were all new once. On this second occasion, I expect more from established editors (including myself here). When wrong, we should accept it and apologise. Hopefully I will remember this lesson and anyone reading this can take it on board too. For now, I'll forgive and forget the incident, but not the lesson. SeveroTC 09:46, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

UCI stuff

Hi

I'm pretty sure the body would have been the International Cycling Association. In those days England, Scotland and Ireland (although I think not Wales) were all considered separate countries, as in the Commonwealth Games. Since the British were world leaders, other nations considered that gave the British too great a chance because they could flood chamîonships. It was an attitude exacerbated by the view that not only England, Scotland and Ireland were properly just "Britain" but that colonies such as South Africa might just as well be too.

I think the story is that Britain dug in its heels, not knowing that other European nations had already began plotting another organisation. One morning they left the ICA and announced the UCI. The British, who had formed the ICA, weren't able to join the UCI because they hadn't known about it and second because their membership of the ICA - possibly by now their lone membership - forbade it.

It took another year for Britain to get back into the fold.

AfD nomination of Tony Malone

An editor has nominated Tony Malone, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tony Malone and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:59, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Stubs

Hi! Please be so kind and see WP:Stub that: "It is usually desirable to leave two blank lines between the first stub template and whatever precedes it." Thanks Doma-w (talk) 02:40, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not a Christian, but please refer to Matthew 7:3 (or Luke 6:41). SeveroTC 09:47, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
No idea what you mean. I only tried to ask you in a friendly way, if it is possible to work together with other users. Kind regards Doma-w (talk) 10:41, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Please assume good faith. You cannot dress a hostile approach as friendly simply by putting an exclamation mark and the words "be so kind" in your submission. The reference to the Bible is the proverb of the speck and the log. There's nothing further to add to this, so please don't try to. SeveroTC 11:37, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
