Removal of citation[edit]

You may have inadvertently removed the citation I provided for the origin of the city's name. Some of your edits are also unreferenced. Allow me thirty minutes to fix the article. — KvЯt GviЯnЭlБ Speak! 02:47, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki-Help[edit]

Hello Doctor de Guzman, your relative left me a message on Friendster. Here are some tips on how citations are provided on Wikipedia, hope this helps:

You may begin with these common ones:

<ref>{{cite web | last = | first = | title = | url= | accessdate = 2008-03-19}}</ref>

<ref>{{cite news | last = | first = | title = | pages = | publisher = | date = [[2005-02-10]] |
url = | accessdate = 2008-03-19}}</ref>

<ref>{{cite paper | author = | title = | version = | publisher = | date = | url = | format = |
accessdate = 2006-07-03}}</ref>

<ref>{{cite book | last = | first = | authorlink = | title = | publisher = | date = | pages = |
doi = | isbn = }}</ref>

<ref>{{cite journal | authorlink = | title = | journal = | volume = 20 | pages = | date = }}</ref>

All you have to do is plug in the pertinent information after the "=" symbols, depending on your source (web, news, paper, book or journal). After that simply append the ref line after the sentence you wish to provide a citation for. Make sure you place it after punctuation. Below is an example from the Silay City article:

In early writings, the settlement was also referred to as ''"Calubcub"'', ''"Caracol"'' and ''"Caraco"''.<ref>{{cite book
| last =Sa-onoy | first =Modesto | authorlink =Modesto P. Sa-onoy | title =Parroquia de San Diego | publisher =
Today Printers and Publishers | date =2006 | pages =1 | doi = | isbn = }}</ref>

The code above will display the following line in the article itself:

In early writings, the settlement was also referred to as "Calubcub", "Caracol" and "Caraco".[1]

Notice that a footnote marker - [1], takes the place of the ref code. In order for the actual bibliography-like References section to be displayed, you need to add the {{reflist}} template under the ==References== or ==Footnotes== section, as is seen below.

==References==
{{reflist}}

The reflist template will display the line below in the article itself:

  1. ^ Sa-onoy, Modesto (2006). Parroquia de San Diego. Today Printers and Publishers. p. 1.

Notice that if you click on the footnote marker (the [1] after the period in the sentence), your view is taken to the corresponding line in the reflist and that line is highlighted. Clicking on the caret before the author's name takes your view back to the sentence with the footnote marker. You can trace references and citations in this manner within an article.

I hope this little lesson helps you, however, you can send me stuff through your relative here in Silay via e-mail if you so choose. For a complete listing of citation templates, please read Wikipedia:Citation templates. Buzz me with your queries if you have further questions. I will reply in my talk page if you post it there; if you post it here in your talk page, I will reply here. Remember to sign your posts with four tildes, like this: ~~~~.
