My concern is not substantive, but procedural. I agree that the article should be deleted, but since it was already afd'ed once, it is ineligible for deletion by PROD and should go through a second afd. I probably would have nominated the article myself if I hadn't gotten side tracked with other things after removing your PROD. I hope that clears things up. Did you read the edits before writing on my talk page? If we are talking about the edits on 10 November, you can see that the IP 81.9.187.15 updated the stats without updating pcupdate which I updated afterwards. Please check the facts next time. --Jaellee (talk) 07:07, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Okay, now I see what you mean. Thanks for for the advice, but I'm also aware of that recommendation. GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

Spaces around punctuation

Hello, my friend. Maybe you could help with something I'm very curious about. I notice that you often don't use spaces after commas and full stops. I see it in lots of edits by users from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc. I've been trying to understand the cause for many years. Many thanks for any light you can shed on this mystery. This is the first time I am hearing this,spaces around punctuation.Buy any book published in the subcontinent and you will never find it.I cant say about other countries but for India,we are never taught this.Whats the use of doing these?A punctuation mark itself has its own significane.I have never seen spaces around punctuations used in our country.It might be the same reason we pronounce english with a/o accent - because in our mother tongues we use a/o accents so like that in our scripts we never put spaces around punctuations and is not practised.RRD13 (talk) 13:46, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Okay. I didn't know that all books published there don't use spaces. Actually, I don't think I've ever seen Indian books published without them. Do they really not teach that in school? I just google-booked two random India-published books. [1][2] Both have spaces. In fact, I think they all do. Some have said that this lack of spaces is a mobile device issue. I am astonished to hear that spaces are omitted by choice, or from not noticing, especially after the immense amount of reading you must do at Wikipedia where you can clearly see the spaces everywhere. It may be of some interest to learn that the French include extra spaces around some punctuation marks, e.g. question marks/exclamation marks (see q:fr:William Shakespeare) and also when using guillemets. -- Trevj (talk) 20:10, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Anna Frodesiak, in India, as elsewhere, of course there is space used after a punctuation mark. I got educated in a Bengali medium school in India, and English was taught as a second language. Even there we learned the use of space after punctuation. Now, lack of space becomes more easily evident in type-written script compared to hand-written script. In school, we use hand-writing for answering etc, maybe that is why lack of space after punctuation is easily overlooked by teachers/examiners.--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:31, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Dwaipayanc: Thank you. You've cleared that up. I'm very pleased to hear that spaces are taught. Actually, I I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

The odd thing is that in handwritten script, one might make the gap smaller over time, but the spacebar makes a consistent size, so it's either a comfortable space or sentences glued together. Plus, the spacebar is the biggest key and easiest to hit (probably for a good reason). The real whopper is reading what one has just written and not noticing the incredible difference between that and, well, absolutely everything else being read that day.
