License tagging for Image:Emblem1.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Emblem1.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:07, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Image tagging for Image:Ashley Van Schalk Wyk 2.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ashley Van Schalk Wyk 2.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

April Fools Trivia[edit]

Robert - thanks for your efforts at improving various Harry Potter articles. However the majority of your work has been to add non-encyclopedic trivial April Fools joke material from HP fan sites. Please do not do this. The Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a fan forum or "fun page" to post trivia and jokes. Information must conform to Notability standards, and well as being Verifiable from Reliable Sources and represent a Neutral Point of View to be permitted. The material you are posting is an April Fools joke , and tomorrow will no longer be funny. That is why it does not belong. You can post such material on your User page if you wish to share, but not on the official HP Project pages. We also do not post outrageous speculation, like Hermione will kill off the entire Ravenclaw house. Please resist the urge to spread such nonsense here, but please feel free to post this sort of material of your favorite blog page or fan forum website . Thanks. --T-dot (Talk | contribs) 16:11, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrighted Images[edit]

Robert, the Harry Potter-related images that you have been uploading are not properly tagged with Copyright, Fair Use Justification, or Source information. These new images you uploaded will be deleted from the Wikipedia in a few days, or perhaps even speedily-deleted in a few hours for copyright violations, unless the proper documentation is provided. The worst part is, since you removed the original authorized images from the articles, replacing them with your unauthorized images, the articles may soon have no images at all, because the orphaned authorized images you removed may also be deleted in a few days. You have, inadvertently I am sure, basically vandalized the articles, which totally goes against the principles of the "Cleaning Up Vandalism", which you signed up to join. Please follow proper procedure when uploading images you find somewhere on a web site, and seek help if you need it. There is information of proper procedures at Wikipedia:Uploading images, and policies regarding using Fair Use copyrighted images, such as those from Harry Potter, is at Wikipedia:Fair use. If you continue to post illegally uploaded images, you be get yourself banned from further editing, and expose the Wikipedia to very expensive lawsuits, for copyright infringement. Thanks for your attention. --T-dot (Talk | contribs) 16:37, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

T-dot i am sorry and i never realized all the bad i have been doing please forgive and i never once thought that it would lead to court cases and everything. I am truly sorry for uploading all the images and i will not in future. There is one article i a interested in: Molly Weasley had been tagged with the this article may need to be completley rewriitn. . I would like to help rewrite it and make Wiki truly brilliant!! Please give your advice and once again thanks for your help with me. Robert.newham--Robert.newham 10:26, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Hey Robert - I didn't mean to sound like you did anything bad, and I'm certainly not angry at you or anything of the sort. You are relatively new to all this, and I would love to help you get up to speed with making good high quality edits. We really need young enthusiastic teenagers like you to help us with maintaining and improving the Harry Potter articles - your enthusiasm and desire to help is a blessing. The last thing I would want to do is to get you worried, and turn you off from giving us some of your time and talents - whatever you can spare. The April Fools jokes you found and posted were funny and interesting, but since they are not exactly accurate to the books (or movies or Rowling's interviews or her web site info), they end up becoming a nuisance, because some people will see them and believe it and then spread it around into other articles as if they were factual. Then people like you and me end up having to clean it all up, which means we don't have time for "real" work. Anyway no big deal, i think we cleared it all up.
The other thing - uploading new images into the Wikipedia, without providing the source, copyright owner information, and a justification for using copyrighted images, can lead to other problems for us down the road. Typically we have a week or so to fix the information on the images, and then they will be fine. But there are some Wiki editors who dislike us using any sort of "Fair Use" images, and they love to go around deleting them, especially those that are not tagged correctly. Currently your images are tagged for deletion, I hope we can get them fixed before they are gone. Personally I like the images you uploaded, and I'm sure you got them from the Mugglenet or some other Harry Potter fan site, which in turn got them from Warner Bros. from their press release packets and other public relations and promotional packages which they give out freely to the press, in order to stir up interest in the upcoming movie. Anyway whoever "owns" the rights to those images can claim we "stole" them and posted them without giving them credit, and then we could be in trouble. It would be sort of like if someone downloaded that awesome picture of you, which you made and posted on your user page, and then started posting it everywhere else online, without your permission, and perhaps saying it was someone else, and perhaps even making money on it, or perhaps saying nasty things about you, and without giving you any credit or compensation for your trouble. Anyway the professional photographers at Warner Brothers Studio made those images, and they own the right to make copies and control the distribution of them, so we need to get their permission to use them, explain why we want to use them, and make sure we give them credit for making them for us.
Anyway, relax, don't worry, we'll get it fixed and hopefully everyone will be happy with your work. Thanks for being a great helper in improving the Wikipedia! Welcome aboard! --T-dot (Talk | contribs) 22:10, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Vandalism-HogwatsExpress.aspx.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Vandalism-HogwatsExpress.aspx.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. feydey 11:53, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Robert - FYI: as I predicted earlier, this POA Poster image of Professor Lupin has now been removed from the Remus Lupin article by the automatic Image Cleanup robot OrphanBot, since there was no copyright information provided when you uploaded it. When you replaced the longstanding and accepted image of Lupin with your new one, but failed to document the source of the new image with copyright permissions, the system deleted the original image as a "orphan" after a week or so, and has now deleted your new one as "illegal". So now we have no image at all for Remus, and we are back to the drawing board. Eventually all your images will be similarly deleted, and then the articles where you placed those images will be barren. I know you didn't intend for this to happen, but please, please stop uploading images to the Wikipedia, and replacing longstanding article images with your illegal ones, because the eventual inevitable result is, as you now see is happening, NO images. Some editors may try to restore your images, but this is a temporary action: eventually the image will be deleted permanently, unless the copyright information, source, and fair use rationale are provided, justifying the uploading of the image. --T-dot (Talk | contribs) 09:59, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Mainpic.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mainpic.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:22, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa[edit]

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell@doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf@africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/
