Rob, I undid your edit to Julian Assange; first of all, you wrote it informally "Some have argued" and "This is not legally correct as the Act states..." which are a bit conversational. I'm not sure what you were trying to say or what relevance it has for the article, but I've provided a welcome message with some helpful links above, and I hope you stick around. Julian Assange[edit]

Hi KillerChihuahua thank you for your assistance, I was trying to insert some legal clarity as what you have stated is incorrect. Firstly section 1(5) does not limit the powers under section 1(4) the material considerations are given "without prejudice". That is standard legal terminology which means 'not limiting'. I do realise where you obtained that information - there is a discussion page on a legal blog. I'm not sure why they have ignored this basic fact as the language is very common in statutes.
Secondly there is the matter of [1]
Diplomatic asylum

"A right of diplomatic asylum is not established in international law. The International Court of Justice has emphasised that in the absence of treaty or customary rules to the contrary, a decision by a mission to grant asylum involves a derogation from the sovereignty of the receiving state. The Organization of American States agreed a convention in 1954."

The current activities in the Ecuadorian Embassy are a departure from the established consular activities listed in the Vienna Convention and that is what gives the UK the right to raise the issue of the 1987 Act.
Hope this helps you further. RobNaylor452 (talk) 23:57, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You need to discuss that on the talk page of the article, which is located at Talk:Julian Assange. Feel free to paste what you have stated above on that page, and discuss your desired changes with the editors of that article. KillerChihuahua?!? 01:02, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
