Questions[edit]

This is a small area of my talk page which I will dedicate to my questions regarding Wikipedia and its use. Any answer and help is welcome and very appreciated! Hopefully some day I will be able to help you back!

August 21 2010:

  • This is an issue I encountered when submitting an edit request on a semi-protected page. My first post contained simple references and quotes regarding new material available which was relevant to the topic discussed. A wikipedia user kindly pointed out that requests had to be made in the "please change X to Y" format, which is to say preparing the actual part of the article rather than just pointing out that something had to be done. I wanted to know if there is a quick way of answering (something like a quote function, or @user) which clearly indicates that I am answering a certain message or if I should just add a new post to the page.
    • Good practice for talk pages is given at WP:TALK. The custom is not to bother with names if the discussion thread is obvious, but you can add the name of the person at the beginning to make it clear, though normally just in plain English. Eg.
Rioda94, here is a reply to your comment. (talk) 17:59, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • My browser and Operative System are both in Italian, which means I don't have english spellcheck... does Wikipedia have a built-in function to fill in for this or should I try to install one locally?
    • I suggest you use a plug-in that supports multiple languages. I use Firefox with the plugin After the deadline (which does support multiple languages and can auto-detect the language) but many other plugins are available and work well. (talk) 17:59, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • What date-format should I use? In Italy we generally use the dd/mm/yyyy but in some other countries I know that it is normal for dates to use the mm/dd/yyy or [day of the week], dd [written month] yyyy.

That is all for now!
