Adoption

Hey Gnowor and welcome! I would be happy to be your adopter, I can help you with anything you want, from markup and formatting to finding articles to edit, wikiprojects to help in to fighting vandalism. If you would like me to be your adopter, just reply below this, and I'll take care of the rest. Thanks--Res2216firestar 22:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

So I can't promise how long I'll be around this time, but if I can make a positive contribution in some small way, perhaps it's worth it. I do apologize for the delayed response, but if you're still open to it, I'd like to be adopted. Thanks for finding me, and thanks in advance for your help. Gnowor (talk) 07:35, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, and a brief note on my disappearance. I became somewhat disillusioned about the productivity of edits here after becoming involved in a somewhat prolonged debate about the naming of tennis tournaments in tables detailing an individual's performance. I realize now that my error was not becoming involved in the debate, but involving my own time more than I believed productive.Gnowor (talk) 07:38, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
 • I have edited both of our pages to show our new adoption status. Answering your question about Huggle, Huggle reverts vandalism using rollback, then it automatically warns the user with a warning template. Huggle's main greatness is it's only flaw: The sheer speed that it reverts and warns at is difficult to work with sometimes, and you could end up blindly reverting perfectly good edits. For that reason, Huggle is available only to users who have been granted the rollback right by an admin. I would recommend that you gain some more experience reverting with Twinkle before asking for rollback. moving off that subject, you said that you are an AIM user, I am not but I am an IRC user, see my talk page for info about getting there. Also, be sure to find and join a Wikiproject that suits your interests, this will help you find stuff to edit and prevent WikiBoredom ;). Ask me anything you like, I am your adopter now!--Res2216firestar 15:29, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Checking back

Hi Gnowor, I just wanted to check back with you and see how things are going. I see on your contribs that you are doing some work on vandal-fighting with twinkle, and so far, your reverts are looking good. Anyway, I just wanted to see how it's going and if you wanted to ask about anything, so feel free to drop me a message. Thanks--Res2216firestar 06:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

I'd be happy to answer any questions about Huggle you have, except ones that would be technical in nature, such as a bug in the program, which are best reported at Wikipedia:Huggle/Feedback. I know what it feels like to be swamped in real life, I have been very busy lately and it's really messing me up on Wikipedia. Thanks--Res2216firestar 20:54, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome. — TKD::Talk 23:32, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Thankyou for discouraging my vandalism...i now realise it was wrong and have decided to change my ways. Please forgive me for any insult, and i promise, the next child i see, i will give him a sweet. As a gesture of my new found kindness. Regards Robbie and Salty

If you take a look at the top of your talk page, you should have a generic welcome message that has some very useful links about editing Wikipedia. For specific words to avoid, you can see WP:AVOID. Hope this helps! Gnowor (talk) 01:15, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

I think we overlapped

this ended up putting vandalism back in, rather than removing. Looks like we were working the same article at the same time. If it's an article that's on your watchlist, you may want to double-check that I got it right. — Ched ~ (yes?) 21:19, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

A quick note about my vacation

On Sunday, (and I'll be busy packing Saturday) in my CDT time zone, through around the next sunday, I will be going on vacation with very limited internet access, so I wanted to let you know about that. I'll be having a good time at the Fort Worth Zoo, but because of the slow dial-up connection I'll have, I might not even bother to try and get on Wikipedia, so if you need help with Huggle, ask at Wikipedia:Huggle/Feedback, and use the help desk or the helpme tag for anything else. I know you probably won't need any help, but I always freak out when I'm going to be off for long periods of time :). Anyway, I'll see you next Sunday!--Res2216firestar 04:54, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Really appreciate the heads-up. I'm actually going to be tackling about 30 pages of papers I have to write next week for finals, so I may pull Huggle off my computer to avoid distraction. Thanks again for all your support. Have fun!GnoworTalk 21:16, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

My post about dynamic IP addresses

Dude, that wasn't vanadalism. Its the truth, and you know it. Why are you preventing the users from wikipedia from knowing about the evils of dynamic IP addresses??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.135.69.134 (talk) 03:07, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

What you posted was at best original research and as such should have been removed. If Gnowor didn't do it, I was about to. --jhanCRUSH 03:09, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the support, jhanCRUSH. Perhaps a warning was over the line, but per original research and relevance of content guidelines, I stand-by my rollback. GnoworTalk2Medid wha? 03:11, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I appreciate the barnstar--my first, yet! I don't know how deserved it was. There was an earlier contribution of the Todd Palin story with a different (blog) source that got reverted. But I'm glad it appeared to stop the fight.-Tjarrett (talk) 02:01, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Please be more careful with huggle ([1]). Thanks, Daniel (talk) 14:04, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry. Got tagged by the lag monster. Happens on occasion. Hope you notice the self-rollbacks I do normally do in circumstances where I get hit like this (e.g. [2] [3] [4], all of which were either mis-rollbacks, or not obvious vandalism.) I try to assume good faith when possible. GnoworTalk2Medid wha? 21:45, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

Hello. I've seen you around doing great work with counter-vandalism, so I have enabled the rollback function on your account. Rollback reverts the top edits of the user on a page, and is compatible with higher-risk tools such as Huggle. Please remember to use rollback for vandalism only, and if you no longer want it, let me know and I will remove it. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 19:46, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks so much! GnoworTalk2Medid wha? 20:58, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Comment by new user

Hi, I have not worked out how to do the references correctly, I shall re-post the information after I have figured it out. (I realise this is the incorrect way to send a message, but I haven't figured that out yet either.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.183.207.152 (talk) 06:42, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

This is exactly how messages are sent on Wikipedia! Talk/Discussion pages are designed so that editors can collaborate on articles as opposed to just reverting information they don't like or don't believe is correct. Wikipedia is always better when more users contribute, and please don't take the reverts that you've been subject to today as a sign that you're not appreciated. You're welcome to continue editing anonymously, but I'd highly recommend creating an account, and several of the links in my message about contributing to Wikipedia are a good place to start if you're trying to find a way to contribute to WP.
P.S. It's common practice to sign your posts (~~~~) on talk pages to facilitate easier communication. Thanks again! GnoworTalk2Medid wha? 06:49, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for helping with that IP vandal who was disrupting my user page. I really appreciate it! My vandal-fighting hadn't ever resulted in someone attacking my page before, but I figured it was just a matter of time... Thanks again, • CinchBug • 08:03, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

No problem. I got hit briefly earlier by a vandalism-only user account but that got blocked quickly. He dinged you a few times before the block. Was thinking about posting about my situation earlier after your IP vandal got blocked. Eh, I suppose it means we're getting to them? Anyway, no problem for the assist. GnoworTalk2Medid wha? 08:05, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, he hit my talk page, too, but another user rolled it back. I'm not using Huggle or Twinkle or anything special (aside from the rollback tool), which makes me a bit slow--but now I'm seriously considering it! I put your talk page on watch, so if I see anyone vandalizing your account, I'll happily return the favor! Regards, • CinchBug • 08:12, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

WP:CSD nom of City of Trees declined

If you come across a blank page, it's a good idea to check the page's history before nominating it for deletion as a blank page. In this case, an ip user blanked a redirect page for no apparent reason, I have restored the redirect. If there is some other issue with the redirect, consider a redirect discussion. Beeblebrox (talk) 09:50, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

When I proposed speedy deletion, it was due to the article at that time being blank (although I noticed that it had previously referred to Adelaide. A quick google search yielded no immediate results referring to Adelaide as the "City of Trees," nor does the article make reference to that nickname. As such, it was my belief that the user who blanked the page did so in good faith, believing that the redirect to Adelaide was inappropriate. Perhaps their justification that has turned up since the initial blanking is correct, and that this is more appropriately a disambiguation page. Although I think that this may more appropriately be deleted, since the term is so generic and non-notable that it's not likely that we'll be able to direct users appropriately. At the same time, I didn't realize RfD was available (thought that I'd go to AfD. I'll take it up there. Thanks.--GnoworTC 19:05, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
I don't believe there is ever a good faith reason to just blank a page without explanation. That's just not how it works, if you believe a page has problems, you fix them, or discuss, or nominate it for deletion through normal means, you don't just blank it out and walk away as that ip user did. The blank page speedy criterion is for pages that were created without any content, not pages that were blanked later on by another user. There are only two criteria that apply to redirect pages, and this did not meet either of them. I think the ip did this in the hope that it would be summarily deleted, and you took the bait, but now that we've hashed all this out that won't be a problem again. I see you have indeed started an RfD on the subject, I may comment over there myself. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:19, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Quickly, don't appreciate the suggestion that I'm "taking the bait". I give careful consideration to my edits, even if I use Huggle to execute them. I independently came up with a plausible justification for the blanking of the page, although the lack of edit summary was outside of policy. Although, just last night at dinner with some friends I was discussing Wikipedia, and several of them seemed unaware that Wikipedia has policies. Were they to make an edit that might seem justifiable, I wouldn't want them to see Wikipedia as a place where they're unwelcome to contribute b/c they missed the memo that edit summaries are quite vital to Wikipedia (after all, how many IP users really look at edit histories). Last point, and I'll admit it's a weak one. While we're sitting here arguing, neither one of us notified the IP user of the discussion about the redirect deletion, nor the need for edit summaries. Perhaps our energies are better spent there (i.e. recruiting) given this.--GnoworTC 19:29, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello Gnowor. I am not sure why my edit to "Shabir" was reverted. I was fixing a spelling mistake, and it appears you reintroduced it. I'm not sure I understand what's happened? The Internet is for Porn (talk) 00:11, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

In fact, most (if not all) of the edits by ForPorn you reverted were correct spelling corrections. You might want to pay more attention in the future, or even check the correct spelling of a word if you're unsure. LedgendGamer 00:16, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

I've removed the orphaned tag as the file is no longer orphaned. I've also warned the user that orphaned the file by vandalizing the page which is specified in the fair use rationale of this file. Thanks for the warning though, as it made me aware of the vandalism so I could fix it. (Yes, I'm that guy that just thanked a bot.)--GnoworTC 06:02, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer permission

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 04:24, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Per the notice you received from Jeff G., it appears you have a conflict of interest in editing this article. As such, I'd request that you cease from editing the article. If you insist on continually removing information which has been sourced properly, I may have to request administrator intervention. Sorry if this seems harsh, but take a look at the information on conflict of interest and hopefully you can see that I'm merely acting according to what I believe consensus to be regarding editing in COI situations.--GnoworTC 01:28, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey, were you the one who just told me to make an account? Don't worry I do have one. I was just making some corrections without being logged on. Hey, how did you make your user name green? Mine is just blue, I wish I could make mine a different color. Sprecher (talk) 07:38, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

No worries about not being logged on. Whenever I see a positive edit, I toss out that welcome message to try to recruit new editors. Regarding the signature: You can go to "my preferences" at the top of the page (or at least you can on the old version of wikipedia, not sure where they might've moved it). From there, I checked the box under signature ("treat above as wiki markup") and inserted the following: --<font color="green">Gnowor</font>TC. Tier 1

Someone keeps changing

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tier_1_capital

To the wrong definition.

Tier 1 Ratio is Tier 1 Capital / Risk Adjusted Assets (RWA). If someone deposits $10 and the bank lends out all $10 assuming a RWA of 90% then the bank would now have risk adjusted assets of $9 ($10*0.9) and it would have equity of $2 implying a ratio of $2/$9 or 22%.

This is what I have written which I know is right.

Someone keeps changing it to something else. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AllanEdwards999 (talkcontribs) 02:27, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Where are you getting the $2 of equity? Because I'm only seeing $1 of equity. Perhaps you have a source for your calculations?--GnoworTC 02:33, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

The question said there was $2 in equity I just used it. Whoever wrote the problem did something which made no sense.

He took All the Risk Weighted Assets then took out the liabilities.

Imagine I had $5 in Loan Receivable (An Asset) and $3 in liabilities. Lets say the Loans had 90% risk. Then according to this guy he did 5*0.9 =4.5 -3. Which is 1.5 then he divided this by 4.5 which is 33%. But the company has $2 of equity and $4.5 of risk weighted assets so the calculation should be $2/4.5 or 44%. RWA makes the ratio higher since assets are lower but somehow this person made it go down.

I did it correctly. Its Equity or capital divided by RWA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AllanEdwards999 (talkcontribs) 03:57, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

It seems you have more knowledge on the subject than I. I'll leave the article as is, but perhaps rather than just telling me you're right, you could link to a source that would help individuals like myself better understand the subject. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could cite a source.--GnoworTC 03:59, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Here is Bank of America's 2009 Annual Report go to page 62 or 64 in the PDF file and it shows the calculation of Tier 1 Common capital and total capital. http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/irol/71/71595/reports/2009_AR.pdf That number is divided by Risk Adjusted Assets. Which is what I did. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AllanEdwards999 (talkcontribs) 04:12, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

 • The people (or Madonna fans) at the Confessions on a Dance Floor page are trying to erase my reliable sources of the album selling 8.5 million figure, to an unreliable source of 12 million from a blog. Please help me.76.117.166.71 (talk) 02:31, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Your original edit looked good to me. I responded on the talk page and backed you there as well. Thanks for your constructive edit and for fighting through the red tape that sometimes comes up around here. Hope you have a great day!--GnoworTC 02:42, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
 • Thank you very much. I appreciate all the support.76.117.166.71 (talk) 02:44, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Welcoming new users

Thanks for all of your welcoming and anti-vandal work. However, just be careful not to welcome a user that has already been welcomed, like you did at User talk:Baseball Watcher. Thanks and keep up the Huggling. Guoguo12--Talk--  02:31, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

My apologies. I usually just toss a Welcome out when I see a good edit w/o checking user page. Mostly, those go out to anonymous users. Didn't pick up the pre-existing welcome on Baseball Watcher's page. Sorry about that. I'll try to be a bit more careful.--GnoworTC 02:37, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, you're doing great overall. Keep up the good work! :) Guoguo12--Talk--  02:42, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: 6 December (film)

Hello Gnowor. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of 6 December (film), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7 does not apply to films. May well not meet WP:NFILMS - consider PROD or AfD. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 14:53, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

WikiAlerter

I've added you to the approved users list, you should be able to use the program now. However, please make sure you only tag pages for speedy deletion if you are sure they meet the deletion criteria. I( note that the above was a clear case were A7 did not apply, as films are not covered by A7. I suggest you carefully read each criterion before you tag a page under it. WikiAlerter also gives you functions to easily add maintenance templates, nominate for a deletion discussion, and propose for deletion. You should consider using these as alternatives to speedy deletion. Let me know if you have any problems with the program. Best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 18:21, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. It was actually through reading some of those criteria pages that I wound up on new page patrol. :). Thanks for the permissions. As the tool's still in beta, I'll let you know if I discover any bugs. Have a great day!--GnoworTC 18:23, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Okay great, just make sure you take them in, and it may be necessary to occasionally review them :). You too, - Kingpin13 (talk) 18:27, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Sorry I could not find the information in English , but will check for this . At the final speech he says he is negotiating a fight for 2011. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.73.65.177 (talk) 18:49, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I trust you. Mainly since your Portuguese is better than mine. (Well, any Portuguese is better than mine.) Thanks again for the contribution!--GnoworTC 18:52, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Got this new source that might help . I hope any of the Gracies can make a fight in Brazil in 2011 . That would be interesting: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/545206-royce-gracie-to-compete-at-ufc-brazil-additional-information-on-brazil-event Best regards . A . Vandalism (2)

You are doing great work against vandals. JamesBWatson (talk) 20:40, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the recognition. And for the quick block on one of many vandals of my user page. Have a great day!--GnoworTC 20:41, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I have seen that you have been getting your share of vandalism. One of the consequences of fighting vandalism, I'm afraid. JamesBWatson (talk) 20:44, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
I look at it as a positive. If they're going after my page (which no random user will ever look at), then they're not going after the encyclopedia. I take it as a sign that I'm doing good work, although recognition from my peers can be a bit more satisfying. Thanks again for stopping by!--GnoworTC 20:46, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I am greatfull

Thak you very much for your support. I will always be looking forward for your help.Taribhen (talk) 22:50, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Soda Stereo

You should be more carefull with warning templates. Adding unsourced stuff is not equal with vandalism. And now, they are sourced. If was not an established user, I might have felt overun by your "warnings". - Javanais dei. 190.45.168.115 (talk) 00:16, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Gnowor. I can't find any references to either Phinnaeus or Sir Jeanne at http://www.interscope.com/artists/default.aspx or Universal Music [5][6]. For that matter, the only Google hits I can find appears to be content mirrored from WP. The MTV Aids Day link from the articles returns a blank page. Is this on the level? -- Rrburke (talk) 00:51, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

I hadn't looked into it myself, actually. I went with a prod rather than a speedy based solely on the fact that the Phinnaeus article has been around for a few years. I tagged that in the middle of several other projects I was working on, so other than the association between the too articles, I have no knowledge. Looks deletable to me based on your info. Thanks so much for your time in looking into it!--GnoworTC 00:54, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
I looked through the edit history of Phinnaeus : I'm starting to think this is a hoax or a wannabe, take your pick. -- Rrburke (talk) 00:59, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm going to toss a speedy on both of them and see what happens. Will direct admins here. Thanks again for looking into these!--GnoworTC 01:03, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Phinnaeus was actually created in 2007 as a redirect to Phineas. I reverted to the redirect. You may want to drop a <code></code> on the user's talk page -- or wait and see. I think it's likely a hoax, but could simply be another non-notable self-promoter. -- Rrburke (talk) 01:10, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Based on the links to the myspace, facebook, and twitter accounts, I'm going with the non-notable self-promoter. Can't believe it survived this long.--GnoworTC 01:12, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
