Hi HistoryStudent113 I would like to thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia so kindly but I'm not quite sure what was wrong with my addition to the pittodrie section of Aberdeen FC page (you told me you removed it but I feel it is valid info and that there is nothing wrong with it being displayed on the wall.)Milno97 (talk) 22:07, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

This is a perfectly legit edit (or, at least, is not rollback-able). I remind you that rollback is for blatant vandalism only. Thank you.  rev《FOX 23:55, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello HistoryStudent113 - thanks for your suggestions and advice. I'm not a heavy contributor to Wikipedia, and haven't figured out all the rules and etiquette. Decline speedy at Sunny Yao

Just an FYI, I declined the speedy deletion of Sunny Yao. The article makes sufficient claim to pass A7. Remember, A7 is importance. So as long as there is a claim of importance, then it passes. I did tag it for PROD BLP. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 06:43, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Valid point. Thanks for changing it to PROD BLP. Did you by chance have a look at the creator's user page? seems a little promotional to me. I believe it's already reported to UAA. RandomAct(talk to me) 06:45, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Three articles about one thing

  • Swissôtel Tallinn

I can not repair what I have made with the wrong article name "Swissôtel Tallinn, Estonia". First of all I haven't find the bottom MOVE and used Delete and Paste by new article name Swissôtel Tallinn, that was wrong. Today I have deleted text in Swissôtel Tallinn and tried to move old Swissôtel Tallinn, Estonia to Swissôtel Tallinn. Keine Chance. No way. I have moved this to Swissôtel Tallinn (2007)

History: Swissôtel Tallinn is the rename of Swissôtel Tallinn, Estonia; renamed on 24.07.2011 by PjotrMahh1. --PjotrMahh1 (talk) 14:52, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Regarding this article...you blanked the page. Are you trying to get the article deleted or working on it further? Having the original author blank a page can be interpreted to be a request to delete it per WP:CSD RandomAct(talk to me) 00:40, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

How to move the old article "Swissôtel Tallinn, Estonia" to "Swissôtel Tallinn", which exists, impossible, where is the administrator? Please, delete the article Swissôtel Tallinn (2007) and make from three articles "Swissôtel Tallinn, Estonia", "Swissôtel Tallinn", Swissôtel Tallinn (2007) the ONE with the right name "Swissôtel Tallinn", thanks, --PjotrMahh1 (talk) 00:48, 11 August 2011 (UTC) {{helpme-helped]} --PjotrMahh1 (talk) 01:00, 11 August 2011 (UTC) --PjotrMahh1 (talk) 01:09, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Is there any difference in the content of the pages Swissôtel Tallinn (2007) and Swissôtel Tallinn? RandomAct(talk to me) 01:24, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
  • No, it isn't, must be the same, thanks,

--PjotrMahh1 (talk) 01:36, 11 August 2011 (UTC) And now we have two articles: right name Swissôtel Tallinn and wrong name Swissôtel Tallinn, Estonia but the second have a right old history. Please paste the text from Swissôtel Tallinn to Swissôtel Tallinn, Estonia and move his name to Swissôtel Tallinn. Thanks --PjotrMahh1 (talk) 01:43, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

But all the second article does Swissôtel Tallinn, Estonia is redirect to the new, correctly named page, so anyone searching for the hotel can find it with either name. If you want to update the Swissôtel Tallinn page, please do so. RandomAct(talk to me) 03:06, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

The IP Address you currently use may have been assigned to another computer yesterday and that person was using wikipedia to vandalize pages. As we have no other way of identifying that user we usually place messages on the talk page of that IP address. If this was not you, don't worry about it. It was probably someone else using the same Internet Service Provider. As it says at the bottom of your talk page "Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. " RandomAct(talk to me) 21:24, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism

Extended content

Hey there, just screwing around, sorry. Running joke on facebook, won't do it again (actually I probably totally will, best ban me). FourthFencer (talk) 21:52, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

As far as I'm concerned as long as you don't do it again I won't be asking admin for a ban. Continue to do so and myself or editors like me may take a different viewpoint. Thank you for your honesty. RandomAct(talk to me) 21:55, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
So does huggle have an automatic report button to skip all the other warning levels or do you manually have to report to AIV? FourthFencer (talk) 22:08, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Huggle can be configured in a variety of ways, but any request for a block without the correct amount of warning is most likely going to be refused. Only in very obvious cases will the warnings be circumvented. We like to err on the side of caution and not assume someone is vandalising with their first edit. RandomAct(talk to me) 22:11, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
(Butting in and edit conflict) No, you just need to go to User --> Report, but they should always have a final warning, unless it's just awful blatant vandalism, otherwise it'll be rejected. Atomician (talk) 22:12, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
(Butting in always welcome) It is true we can report directly with Huggle, but that defeats the purpose of assuming good faith. RandomAct(talk to me) 22:14, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Okay, so theoretically I could keep vandalizing until being reprimanded with a "final" warning (which I assume is red and has big letters?), correct? Not saying I will, just, you know, hypothetically speaking. Do I need rollback access for huggle or can I just use it? I mean, I imagine it only lets you revert edits with vandalous patterns according to some super-smart nerd's algorithm, right? So potentially I could use it? I'd love to help out, just don't have time to earn trust and all that jazz. FourthFencer (talk) 22:19, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Three points:

  1. Yes, Huggle does require rollback rights to work
  2. Give WP:Vandalism a read. Then read it again. It'll give you some tips on getting started.
  3. If you do plan on working on reverting vandalism, it's probably not a good idea to hypothetically ask what you'd have to do to get away with it. Just a thought.

RandomAct(talk to me) 22:24, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

1: damn, thanks anyway; 2. Reading it twice sounds like a waste of time, any particular reason why you recommend that?; 3. I'm at a crossroad in life, I can't quite decide if I should go left or right, left being the evil path of vandalism (har har communist connotations), right being the righteous (ha...) one of noble wikipedia defense or whatever it is you call it. Basically whichever is more awesome, I shall choose. FourthFencer (talk) 22:29, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Oh, re:3, don't assume every vandal is really dumb please, it's degrading. :/ FourthFencer (talk) 22:30, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Not sure you'll get very far right now if you choose vandalism, since you're talking to two active vandal-fighters... just saying. Atomician (talk) 22:32, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, presumably I could be very subtle and edit obscure topics. Plus, ultimately, by definition I can't get very far since I am limited to a computer; unless I go out of my way to fly to New Zealand or something there's only so many places laptops can go before you get tired of carrying. FourthFencer (talk) 22:37, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
That's not how it works. Huggle is showing me every edit you're doing. Atomician (talk) 22:38, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Wait, while I'm typing or after I save it? Also that wikidefcon thing is cute, I'm a fan. Do I get to use it if I go right or do you (Random) maintain it alone? Is there a tool you use to count or do you just guess? FourthFencer (talk) 22:40, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
On submission of the edit. I feel like I'm training an assassin here, if you go on to vandalize you will be blocked. There's the warning, if this is just to learn anti-vandalism, then you are more than welcome. Atomician (talk) 22:41, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
Nah don't worry, I won't kill anyone. Nor, indeed, will I vandalize anymore. Well, maybe in the far off future, but not for the foreseeable. Enjoy the peace and quiet my retiring from a life of crime will bring you, hope you don't mind if I chill around for a bit and ask more questions though? The more you know the better, y'know? FourthFencer (talk) 22:47, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
I don't maintain the Vandalism defcon code, I just update it every now and then when things change. the reverts per minute stats come from huggle. RandomAct(talk to me) 22:42, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
I see. Now, does that include only huggle reverts, or all reverts across WP? And if the latter, how is that counted? Just rollbacks, or...? FourthFencer (talk) 22:47, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Ok folks, shows over. If you want to carry on this conversation please do so on your own talk pages. I also am feeling somewhat wary of where this conversation is going and would rather wash my hands of it. RandomAct(talk to me) 22:47, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Please do not vandalize wikipedia with unfounded and unauthorized content deletion, especially when such deletion leads to misquoting or misrepresenting sources.

For more information see Talk:The Dating Guy, also related to the source and info in question.

Thanks for understanding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.109.127.141 (talk) 18:48, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

For more information see WP:RS, specifically the section that reads "self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets—are largely not acceptable. This includes any website whose content is largely user-generated"
Also, if you're planning on waving vandalism accusations at anyone who disagrees with you, I suggest you read WP:VANDALISM, you will realize that your allegations are plainly false. RandomAct(talk to me) 20:33, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

December 2011

Hi. Thank you for your help with the vital work of patrolling new pages. I noticed that you are not marking some of the pages you've reviewed as patrolled. Please do remember to click the 'mark this page as patrolled' link at the bottom of the new page if you have performed the standard patrolling tasks. Where appropriate, doing so saves time and work by informing fellow patrollers of your review of the page, so that they do not duplicate efforts. Thanks again for volunteering your time at the new pages patrol project. I saw you speedied Murli Krishna Pharma Private limited but it was still unpatrolled, thought I should let you know that TW won't automatically mark patrolled unless you come right from the new pages page. BTW, thanks for watching my talk page earlier. Calabe1992 00:41, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for catching that, I usually tag them using Huggle (which marks them as patrolled) but I wanted to have a closer look at that one and forgot to tell TW to mark it. RandomAct(talk to me) 00:43, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
No problem. I've been trying to push for Twinkle to always do this automatically and have been trying to spread the word that for whatever reason, it doesn't. Calabe1992 00:49, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
I know, does't really make sense, If I stumble upon a new article and tag it with twinkle, why is the assumption that it is not patrolled? Seems counterintuitive. RandomAct(talk to me) 00:50, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. Calabe1992 00:59, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

We need your help testing latest huggle

Hello,

I am sending you this message because you listed yourself on meta:Huggle/Members as a beta tester. We desperately need attention of testers, because since we resolved all release blockers, we are ready to release first official version of huggle 3! Before that happens, it would be nice if you could test it so that we can make sure there are no issues with it. You can download it packaged for your operating system (see Wikipedia:Huggle/Huggle3_Beta) or you can of course build it yourself, see https://github.com/huggle/huggle3-qt-lx for that. Don't forget to use always latest version, there is no auto-update message for beta versions!

Should you find any issue, please report it to wikimedia bugzilla, that is a central place for huggle bugs, where we look at them. That is i mportant, if you find a bug and won't report it, we can't fix it. Thank you for your work on this, if you have any questions, please send me a message on my talk page, I won't be looking for responses here. Thanks, Petrb (talk) 15:16, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon

Hi RandomAct, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle connect!

Major changes:

  • Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
  • Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
  • Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far

In case you found a bug, please report it to bugzilla: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=Huggle&list_id=147663 thank you! Petrb (talk) 10:13, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Huggle message

Hey RandomAct! You are receiving this message because you are subscribed at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members#Beta_testers

I have recently launched a new downloads for beta testers that contains nightly builds of huggle, eg. versions that are built every day from our master branch and contains latest huggle. These builds are currently provided only for Windows and Ubuntu. You can find them here: http://huggle.wmflabs.org/builds/

Please keep in mind that these don't have any automatic updates and if you download and start using nightly build, you will need to update it yourself! So don't get yourself to running old version, it's possible to install both stable and nightly huggle, which is what I suggest.

Keep the bug reports coming to phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/create/?projects=Huggle Many thanks! Petrb (talk) 10:01, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
