Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Battles involving the Maratha Empire into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to make a note in an edit summary at the source page as well. You need to provide the attribution for this sedit and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Dougweller (talk) 11:15, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please upload your free media to Commons![edit]

Thank you for uploading free images/media such as File:Afzal-shivaji-attack.jpg to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view previous uploads by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'file' namespace from the drop down box (or see [1]). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!:Jay8g Hi!- I am... -What I do... WASH- BRIDGE- WPWA - MFIC- WPIM 04:00, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ananthagiri Hills has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Jean Calleo (talk) 20:48, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mahmud of Ghazni[edit]

Alptigin was established in Ghazni by 955 which was later ruled by Sebuktigin until 997 at which time Ismail took over. Later, Mahmud moved against his brother, Ismail, who was at Ghazni.

1. The fact that Mahmud was Turkish is academic.
2. The fact that Mahmud invaded Ghazni in a brief civil war against his brother Ismail, has nothing to do with him being Turkish nor where he may originally have been born.
3. Neither of the previous 2 facts give any reason to change his place of birth to "Turkey".
4. According to, Universal Cyclopaedia and Atlas, Volume 7 By Charles Kendall Adams, Rossiter Johnson, p 442; Mahmud was born at Ghazni.
5. According to, The Americana: a universal reference library, comprising the arts ..., Volume 10 By Frederick Converse Beach, Mahmud was born at Ghazni
6. According to, The Great Events by Famous Historians: Indexes, by John Rudd, Rossiter Johnson, p 141, Mahmud born in Ghazni.

You have a published source that states he was born somewhere else? --Kansas Bear (talk) 08:35, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ghazni which is the place of Mahmud's death lies in east Afghanistan which was being ruled by Hindushahis at that time.

Various historical sources such as Martin Ewans, E.J. Brill and Farishta have recorded the introduction of Islam to Kabul and other parts of Afghanistan to the invasions of Mahmud of Ghazni-

“ The Arabs advanced through Sistan and conquered Sindh early in the eighth century . Elsewhere however their incursions were no more than temporary , and it was not until the rise of the Saffarid dynasty in the ninth century that the frontiers of Islam effectively reached Ghazni and Kabul . Even then a Hindu dynasty the Hindushahis , held Gandhara and eastern borders .From the tenth century onwards as Persian language and culture continued to spread into Afghanistan , the focus of power shifted to Ghazni , where a Turkish dynasty , who started by ruling the town for the Samanid dynasty of Bokhara , proceeded to create an empire in their own right. The greatest of the Ghaznavids was Muhmad who ruled between 998 and 1030. He expelled the Hindus from Ghandhara , made no fewer than 17 raids into India"

Which answers nothing, and FYI wikipedia can not be used to reference other wikipedia articles, since there may be errors within that article.
"From the time when Alptigin established himself in the region of Ghazna in 955-956 and made himself to a great extent independent of the Samanids, the area surrounding this town remained in the hands of Turkish rulers. Sebuktigin gained power, and continued to rule until his death in 997." --Ghaznavids, C.E.Bosworth, The Encyclopedia of Islam, Vol II, p1050.
"In 962 a Samanid slave commander, Alptigin, came to Ghazna with an army and established himself there....."
"In 977 another slave commander, Sebuktigin, rose to power in Ghazna, and under the dynasty which he founded, that of the Ghaznavids, the town enter the two most glorious centuries of its existence. It now became the capital of a vast empire, stretching at Sultan Mahmud's death in 1030 from western Persia to the Ganges valley...". -- Ghazna, C.E.Bosworth, The Encyclopedia of Islam, Vol. II, p 1049.
Therefore, according to The Encyclopedia of Islam and C.E. Bosworth, Alptigin took possession of Ghazna in 962. Mahmud was born 971. --Kansas Bear (talk) 18:29, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
