AfD Nomination: Blasphemy (band)

I've nominated the article Blasphemy (band) for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Blasphemy (band) satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blasphemy (band). Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of Blasphemy (band) during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion. Leo Kinnunen

Great work on the Leo Kinnunen article! I'd love all articles about less famous drivers to be brought up to this quality. I hope you don't mind that I added a new improved results table. Bretonbanquet 23:35, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

1984 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships

The primary reason I did not put the 1984 championships as a sepearte event was to avoid any confusion with the 1984 Winter Olympics. It was about the time the FIS had changed their format from the odd years in between the Winter Olympics. I have included the team events in both ski jumping and nordic combined in the 1985 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with details mentioned of both events. Chris 12:32, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Kimi Räikkönen‎

Thanks for cleaning up that Mercedes disambiguation link I left at Kimi Räikkönen. Majin Izlude talk 16:41, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks -KTM Jared 683

p.s Juha rules!

Yeah, i read over it, next time I create a article it will be way better, as for me creating the article, it really wasnt that hard, just using the info i've gained from going to the GNCCs and using the website, all in all it took about 30 mins to get the info...

thanks, i always forget to do that though lol, but not this time KTM Jared 683 19:49, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Nice piece - beat me to it - :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 16:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Noxious hoaxery.

I noticed you tagged the likely hoax "Arctic metal". The users contributions show some similarly suspscious articels I'd appreciate your advice on:

I've added {{hoax}} tags to these as their sole authorship makes me somewhat suspiscious. Do you know anything one way or the other about them? 68.39.174.238 00:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

OK. Good that they did make some legit articels. I was a little harsh with them after I'd dealt with User:United Knowledge Foundation and socks and their hoaxery. 68.39.174.238 20:58, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Suicide methods User edit

I didn't actually edit Ohconfucius' comment. I merely removed his red formatting. I thought it was unfair that he was drawing extra attention to his comment when it was so irrelevant.Wik98 11:57, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Black/Doom

I saw you improved writing style of a piece in doom metal concerning black/doom and changed some bands. (English is not my native language.) But I don't understand why especially Forgotten Tomb and and maybe even Dolorian - the last one I know thanks to you - aren't suicidal black metal. As far as I know FT shares the same 'suicidal' ambition as Shining. Agalloch isn't a clean example of a black/doom combination due to some neofolk influences and Woods Of Ypres is maybe too black to be mentioned in an article about doom. But they were my best examples to show that the subgenre is more than a movement in the suicidal black metal scene. Störfaktor 18:26, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Intaglio

If you go to the last page of the Google search, you will see that there are only 242 unique results for intaglio + "funeral doom". That is not really enough for notability for a rock band. In any case, the article did not assert notability -- essentially, it just said "this is a Russian band that has released one album". Therefore, it did meet speedy category a7. If someone were to recreate the article and assert notability in one of the ways listed in WP:MUSIC, that would be different. Thanks, NawlinWiki 01:35, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Asko_Makitalo deletion discussion

I noticed that Jack007 edited your comment in the Asko_Makitalo deletion discussion I'm unfamiliar as to the correct course of action but I'm guessing it should be reverted. I don't suppose you know why he added the templates at the top of the page too. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zudduz (talkcontribs).

I noticed something odd about the awards claimed for Vana Espuma on the Internet Movie Database; this is the only film which is listed on IMDb as ever having won a South American Cesar Award. Please look at my comments on the AfD debates and see whether you think there may be a verifiability problem. --Metropolitan90 17:53, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Xasthur

Thanks for the nice note. I've unblocked the title and you're good to go! Much wiki-love, Lucky 6.9 18:59, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for tagging articles with our template. However, articles about film-makers, actors, etc., do not belong in our project. Those articles are the jurisdiction of WikiProject Biography, we only deal with articles on films. Thanks again, and we value your contributions and help with our project. Cbrown1023 03:17, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

It's quite alright, but don't be discouraged from adding our tag to pages in the future... This is Wikipedia, if you make a mistake, another user will just fix it (and don't worry, you're not the only one to do it). If you only work on Biography artciles than I'm sure WP:BIOGRAPHY will be happy to have your help, but if you also work on film articles we (WP:FILMS) would also be grateful for any assisstance you may give. your recent edits

Hi! I noticed that you are making rather fast edits to talk pages - Can you please slow down your edits, or request a botflad, as these edits are spamming the RC feed. Thanks! ST47Talk 23:56, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Cool old films

Hi yes I have been contributing many articles on 1910s film it is a crucial part of early film history which is extremely poorly covered on wikpiedia. Eventually someone has realised and thanked me. Thankyou. In the past I have mostly concentrated on geo stubs and olympians but I will mostly be working through film history!!!!!! I'll be starting articles actors and actresses e.g William Garwood and working my way through the filmography. These are cool almost forgotten old films . See Albert MacQuarrie -how cool is he? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ernst Stavro Blofeld (talkcontribs).

Thanks for your message. I was reverting the article back to the redirect based on your edit here. After User:Common_Sense7 started editing it, I decided to leave it alone because I wasn't too sure what to do with it. --Casper2k3 04:01, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Milano Calibro 9

Hi! Thank you for the message. You are the second today inquiring me about Italian-English grammar, and citing me... google as source. I hope you trust me that, in this case, 31 years of life in Italy and reading in Italian can be more authoritative than google... (another example, Anglosaxons use the singular form "condottiere" - which does not exist - of condottieri, while the correct one is condottiero). Anyway, what is debatable is declination of foreign names in a language. Also in Italian it is suggested to leave them in the singular form also when using the plural. You should check the rules to use in your High School grammar!! Let me know and good work. --Attilios 08:58, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Just a little note of style. Title of headers should not be all in capitals, only the first word. Thanks for the good work in film field. Bye! --Attilios 09:19, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Finnish philosophers

I hope to write stubs on very many of these - a project I'm setting myself in the coming weeks. Manner is a border case, more of a writer for sure, but certaily influential. --TTKK 12:43, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

David Knight

Greetings! Thanks for leaving me a message. Sorry about the whole confusion about the dab page, which I apparently forgot to actually create. I was just a greenhorn and probably bit off more than I could chew... simultaneously.

Anywho, the move was to make room for disambiguation between David Knight (motorcyclist) and David Knight (footballer), not David Knight (motorcyclist) and David Knox (footballer). That was my mistake.

I went ahead and created the disambiguation page. As you can see, there are more than just the two David Knight's, including a musician, an actor, a politician and a hypnotist. I updated all articles that link to the disambiguation page. Hope it helps! thadius856talk 08:04, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey Prolog!

Thank you for noticing my efforts! :) Yeah um, I'm still new to the system so I'll have to read about keeping track of the editing. I hope I haven't done a bad mistake by putting my editing notes on the discussion pages?! Or have I? mesg back -Niklas berg

yeah okay good...I'll probably ask you then if I have any problems as u are a fellow Finn. :) terveisin,Niklas berg

Suicide Methods

Hi Prolog.. just had a question about the suicide methods page. I deleted one of the links because it links to a site that gives instructions on how to kill oneself. It's not informative, but rather instructive. I put an explanation in the edit summary. Am I wrong in assuming that I could do that? Cheers, Treeny

Church of Misery

Hey Prolog, absolutely EM is notable but your second point is a tricky one. It agrees with the WP:EL preamble, "Wikipedia articles can often be improved by providing links to web pages outside Wikipedia which contain information that... hasn't yet been added to the article" but is actually contrary to #1 of "Links normally to be avoided", "A page which only provides information already in the article, or which does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article here would have once it becomes a Wikipedia:Featured article.". Would the Wikipedia article on CoM contain the discography if it was at "featured article" length? I think we'll agree it would.

I've brought up this contradiction on the :EL talk page. In the meantime, as I've been noting to Eastlaw, if there is so much info out there about this band, why is the ext. links section as long as the actual article? Ext. links are not intended to be a shortcut to fleshing out the WP article. Nobody cares more or does more than me to ensure that that metal content is warm, safe and happy on WP but it has to fit the rules and goals of WP as well. Nice one, Deizio talk 01:25, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah that's fair. The limit of the ELs on the page should be the homepage, fanpage, amg and EM tho. Hopefully Eastlaw or someone else will get round to adding some more info. Deizio talk 11:45, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Messiah (metal band)

Even if it meets WP:MUSIC, it fails speedy category a1 (empty/no context) as an article with nothing but an infobox and the sentence "Messiah are a death/thrash metal band from Switzerland." I am going to copy the old content to your userspace at User:Prolog/Messiah (metal band); if you can expand the article, feel free to recreate it. Thanks, NawlinWiki 15:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Vastly improved article -- looks good, thanks! NawlinWiki 14:41, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Matti Rajakylä

Hey! I wanted to ask you: when I put the name "rajakylä" in the search box, nothing comes up, but only some of the summer olympic articles where his name is mentioned. Then again if I search with his whole name, then it comes to the actual "matti rajakylä"-article page. But why doesn't the search results show the actual Matti rajakylä article page as a result if I just search with "rajakylä"? Because for example Wikipedia does give Hanna-Maria Seppälä's main article page as a result if I would just search with the word "Seppälä". I was just wondering is there a special system that I have to complete (or something that has to be done) so that when searching with just the word "rajakylä" the "Matti Rajakylä" -article page would show up? thanks in advance, Niklas berg

The Cranes Are Flying

Moved it back, thanks for the note! :) --MerovingianTalk 10:49, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Bands

Thanks. Yes, your changes seem to address the issue. And I agree that failing to meet WP:MUSIC is not grounds for CSD, but the article does have to actually claim notability. In the context of many of these articles what was needed was actually any indication that at least two of the albums was released by a "known" label. I did not CSD articles where the discography showed which label the disks were on, or where there was some other indication of notability.

Sorry, if my csd spree seemed like an overreaction. Penumbra (band) tripped my fancruft radar, I think mainly because the text is not very encyclopedic in tone and it is full of redlinks to non-notable bands and musicians (as are many of these articles). Most musicians in a barely-notable indie band should probably not have their names linked.--Srleffler 23:46, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
