Re: Category:Cricketers[edit]

Thanks for your message, Portnadler. I'm not sure what the right answer is though. Can I suggest you ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cricket? I'm sure some people there will have an opinion. Stephen Turner (Talk) 17:50, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brown[edit]

There was a new article title Ernest S. Brown that looked like a school report or something, with some confusion over the name, so I put a merge on it. But it was actually copyvio of a Brown biography from another site, so it got deleted. Thanks for pointing that out; I removed the merge tag.--ragesoss 20:03, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Ernest_William_Brown.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ernest_William_Brown.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you have questions about copyright tagging of images, post on Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags or User talk:Carnildo/images. 04:26, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

I presume the current contents of Retrograde (disambiguation) are work in progress. If so, I'll leave it to you to remove the vandalism. --Portnadler 10:07, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the vandalism but no, I hadn't actually intended that to be a work in progress. The Rod (☎ Smith) 17:57, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Foucault pendulum[edit]

Hi Portnadler,

I have noticed that you take an interest in planetary mechanics and the subject of precession.

I have recently completed a major addition to the Foucault pendulum article. The information that I added has been published in peer reviewed articles, but since the information that I have added is relatively unknown, some people may be surprised by what they read.

Can you please check out the article? Best case scenario would be that your finding is that the information is correct, that newtonian mechanices has been applied correctly, and that you endorse the article. Worst case scenario would be that you disagree with my additions. I'll take my chances, I want to get some action going. --Cleonis | Talk 09:59, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From 2006 Atlantic hurricane season[edit]

Should Zeta be here?[edit]

There seems to be something of an edit war going on about whether Tropical Storm Zeta (2005) should be included here. IMHO, it was part of the 2005 season, so it shouldn't. However, a compromise might be to have a placeholder with a link to the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season on this page. --Portnadler 09:05, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please look at the archives. We've had this discussion for AGES, and consensus is that a small section remains. I've removed the section at the main talk page and archived it because there is no need to re-ignite the whole stink. – Chacor 10:35, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is true. It got bad enough that it was added to WP:LAME. There is a constant fear that it could reignite anytime a new member joins in to the tropical cyclone wikiproject. Semantic arguments are the worst. Thegreatdr 21:05, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zola Budd[edit]

Hi, I believe from the history page that you sourced the picture for the article on Zola Budd.

I attempted to find the original on the www.iaaf.org website to see if it too was corrupted (see my comments here), but I was unable to find it.

Would you mind assisting?

Wine Project activity[edit]

This is a friendly note to let you know that you have been moved to the Inactive members page of the Wine Project. Users are moved to this page when two months have passed without any Wikipedia activity or 3 months have passed without any contribution to a wine related article. The intent of the Participant list is to function as a resource for other editors wishing to get in contact with wine project members for comments or question on Wikipedia's wine article. The goal of this process is to try and maintain the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wine/Participants as current and up to date as possible with active and contributing members. Please note that this is not intended to be a negative reflection on your Wikipedia or wine related contribution and it is well known that sometimes outside life can take editors away from Wikipedia for some time. You will always be welcomed to rejoined the Wine Project should you feel that the time is right. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk or on the Wine Project talk page. Best wishes. AgneCheese/Wine 22:11, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Zola budd86a.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Zola budd86a.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Polly (Parrot) 14:00, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File:Aberration1.gif listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:Aberration1.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Non-free rationale for File:Saba-douglas-hamilton.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Saba-douglas-hamilton.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:07, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Chambertin.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Ways to improve Planetary transits and occultations[edit]

Hi, I'm Lithopsian. Portnadler, thanks for creating Planetary transits and occultations!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Just needs a citation or two to support the basic definitions. I'll tag up where I think references would be good.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Lithopsian (talk) 20:06, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
