New article[edit]

Thanks a lot sir. want to write a new page on gyaraspur .How to do it . Pmvelankar (talk) 07:23, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is usual to put new messages at the foot on a talk page, not at the top. To answer your question, try WP:1st, also WP:Tutorial. - David Biddulph (talk) 09:06, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Initially just could not make my own "sandbox". Lot of trial and error . Finally new article on Gyaraspur is in my sandbox . images have still to be added. Trying to figure out how.would like you to have a look at it and further guidance. Pmvelankar (talk) 09:23, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You hadn't created the draft article at User:Pmvelankar/Sandbox, but at User:Pmvelankar. I've moved it to User:Pmvelankar/Gyaraspur for you, and added a link from User:Pmvelankar. You do need to read the links which I gave you before you try to move it to mainspace. - David Biddulph (talk) 09:48, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have learned quite a lot from wiki.I have also enjoyed giving wiki references to places I have visited . I am grateful to wiki for all the pleasure it has given me and so I wanted to do my bit and became a new contributor. For me it has been a frustrating experience. Mainly for these reasons. Firstly I am from "land line phone generation" . Secondly not too much computer savy and finally difficulty in comprehending "wiki mark up ". I could not even make my own sand box. Help is requested in a format I could understand. Pmvelankar (talk) 13:31, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a new page .[edit]

I have been wanting to contribute to wikipedia but always have found it a bit too tricky. Now I want to create a page "Dams in Vidhabha "and again finding it too difficult to make / insert a table .Would surely love to get some help / Guidance Pmvelankar (talk) 09:07, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Submitting an article.[edit]

I love wikipedia and would love to contribute. Valiant effort was made in 2011. I could not even make my own Sand box. After lot of effort and heart-ache gave up . Trying once again with a page / article( any difference between the two?) on Dams. There are lot of sources where information on dams is available . In these sources list of dams in a region or a district, as Region / District wise list of dam is not available . Effort has been made to present the dams in Vidharbha region . Vidharba consists Amravati and Nagpur Revenue Divisions and has total of 11 Districts. Here the Aim is to provide District wise information in a table format where the name of the dam and reference to its location in Latitude and Longitude on wikimapia as well as in google maps where the dam & reservoir has already been mapped by me is ginen. The same mapped feature also gives salient features of the Project. I tried to make the article, Tried , because , Due to lack of knowledge and expertise I found the going tough .Making the table itself was tough . an errors got the content out side the table area , did not know how to correct the error. There being 11 districts making 11 tables was beyond my capabilities . Also felt it would be too long and unwieldy .Decided to restrict it to one dostrict at a time. Made a page on "Dams in Amravati District" and submitted . I have been bold and hopefully not foolhardy or stupid . My data for other 10 districts is ready .Earnestly request guidance and editing of my submissions as they are likely to have errors. Thanks all . I have taken the file from data at India-WRIS Version 3.0 (http://india-wris.nrsc.gov.in/WRIS.html?UType=R2VuZXJhbA==?UName=) The system's present portal contains 12 major info systems, 35 sub info systems having 114 spatial layers along with large attribute data of the water resources assets and temporal data of 5-100 years. Based on the National Map Policy (2005) and CWC data dissemination policy, the portal has two versions. The public domain version complies with both policy guidelines.I, therefore think that the information taken from this source is from Public domain.Pmvelankar (talk) 13:33, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is the box at the top with picture of broom and open book with question mark "comments left by the reviewer ?"I was hoping some one will help me out and do the cleaning up , so I started working on Dams in Akola district . As can be seen I have tried to do lot of home work and hopefully made some headway . I do desperately want to contribute 11 articles on dams of 11 districts of Vidharbha region. I will revert back to editing Amravati page and come back to Akola after being successful with Amravati . Pmvelankar (talk) 03:38, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Dams in Amravati District..JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sir , India - Water Resource Information System - wiki , has been specifically designed for fast and accurate dissemination of information on water resources of India as is given in their introduction . As the purpose is for dissemination of info, I still feel that the referred and connected web sites are in Public Domain. However I have now contacted them to confirm this or alternately permit me to use it for up loading on wikipedia. Hello, Pmvelankar! I'm Huon. I have replied to your question on the Articles for Creation Help Desk about Dams in Amaravati District. My article is ready.[edit]

I have reworked the article "Dams in AmravatiDistrict" . As there are 40 odd dams in that district , the article would have become inordinately long. Decided to split the article in parts . "Dams in AmravatiDistrict-Part One"is now ready. On my part I have tried hard to ensure there are lesat mistakes and wiki guide lines are followed . Now that it is ready and saved I can not figureout as to how to submit it . HELP!Pmvelankar (talk) 10:23, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can submit the draft for review by adding {{subst:submit}} to the very top. However, as I said on my talk page, it will likely be declined because there's no indication that "Dams in Amravati District" is a notable topic. Huon (talk) 13:53, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot , {{YMG}}Pmvelankar (talk) 00:56, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Dams in Amravati District has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability, no sources dealing specifically with dams in Amravati District, no need to break out this district from the Maharashtra list

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Huon (talk) 14:40, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mr Huon,

1. First things first . Data , information and salient features a about dams in geographical area of Amravati district is gathered from references considered authentic . Information of all the dams so collected and collated is put in the article Dams in Amravati district so that the information is available at ONE PLACE. References are given for data about dams . To prove that these dams are indeed located in Amravati district is a varifiable fact by the location given in Latitude and Longitude and hence no references should be necessary.

2. Information , Data and salient features about dams in the article 'Dams in Amravati District' were taken from the source National Resister of Large Dams - 2009 ,Issued by Central Water Commission , Government of India.. List of dams and reservoirs in India is a wiki article and as the name suggests it is in list form. Dams and reservoirs in India,Dams in India by specifications is another wiki article, giving information in table format. There is ONE main Reference quoted for both these articles : National Register for Large Dams - 2009 , It is the same source and reference used for the dams in the Amravati district article. If reference of National Resister of Large Dams - 2009 ,Issued by Central Water Commission , Government of India was considered good enough for notability and source for earlier published articles . I do not understand how the same reference has now lost its credibility.

3. Wiki article on dams and reservoirs in India , as the name suggests it gives list of dams and reservoirs in all the states and union territories of Union of India . However, of all the states only two states , Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are signaled out . Andhra Pradesh has got main wiki article List of Dams and reservoirs in Andhra Pradesh.. Similarly there is a main article Dams in Maharashtra.. What was the need to break out only these two states from the complete list of all the states is not known . May be some one wanted to create an article where information about dams in these two states was readily available at ONE PLACE . However it is established that there is precedence which will allow break out of a district from the state.

4. List of dams in Maharashtra as given in wiki article has 65 dams . Of these , there are independent articles in wiki about 45 dams . All those articles again have same reference ie National Register for Large dams -2009.

5. Last but not the least,It if felt that, if some one searches for information on dams in various districts of India it should be readily available in an Encyclopedia. If it is not there people should be encouraged .

6. I will try to edit the article by reading the tutorials , but as mentioned earlier there are so many cross links in every line that it becomes very confusing and I amy need some helpto cleanup .Thanks. Pmvelankar (talk) 14:17, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Dams in Amaravati District requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://nagpur.nic.in/ehtmldocs/left_link/dam2.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
