Thanks for those references!!![edit]

I was about to ask for your help with just that!

OK, come over to User:Timothy Perper/Sandbox5‎ and give a look. The text writing is just about done, at least this round of it, and now it needs other kinds of work. Some places need better references. You'll see when you look at it. Timothy Perper (talk) 23:40, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Idea for shonen section[edit]

Hi, Peregrine,

How about moving some (not all!) of the examples into the endnotes? That will preserve the referencing and shorten the main text while keeping the information? I think it may read all right.

Timothy Perper (talk) 19:40, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Might look better, I don't know. You might ask the guy who said there are too many refs. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 19:45, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just an idea. I think I'll try some other ways first, and post some new, shorter material tmw. Timothy Perper (talk) 01:55, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. The aerticle is becoming the cat's meaow. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 06:25, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I kind of think so too. Anyway, I've made a bunch of edits, and think they may have solved the major problems (I hope). I've got more refs to add, but the major writing/editing is done. Take a look -- there are a couple of references you might be able to find. Timothy Perper (talk) 07:57, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The above Arbitration case has closed, and the final decision can be viewed at the link above. The parties are urged to work collaboratively and constructively with the broader community and the editors committed to working on the articles in question to develop and implement a generally acceptable approach to resolving the underlying content dispute.

For the Arbitration Committee,

Almost ready: I added all the refs and checked the URLs[edit]

Now it needs to be proofread and stuff, because I think the writing and referencing is done. So we almost ready to put it in. Timothy Perper (talk) 16:46, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. Ihave a pretty reasonable work schedule this week, so I should be able to help in the evenings. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 17:03, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'll be sending you an image for the section by email. It's for illustrating both bishojo and sento bishojo. I'm still making minor fixes, but nothing major. Timothy Perper (talk) 17:48, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed the references, sent you the image, and with one more check, I think we're ready to go. Whaddya think? Timothy Perper (talk) 02:08, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I'll take a look and add my comments there. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 03:24, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Outlaw Star s01e09.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Outlaw Star s01e09.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:40, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks nice, too. The image goes at the end of "sex" section, somewhere in between the two paragraphs that mention bishojo girls. I've put a note on the manga talk page about it. Timothy Perper (talk) 23:21, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Jigsaw harvey 1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jigsaw harvey 1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. Correcting errors in manga article[edit]

I'm about half-way through my scan of the references, finding and correcting errors. I put a small entry on the talk page about it. Some of the errors are funny, but they all need to be fixed. Most come from people trying to use the templates and getting them seriously wrong. Fortunately, the Wikipedia:Footnotes entry does NOT mandate the use of these templates, and we have been following their recommendations for content. So that's OK—well, sort of OK. I suspect that someone is going to pop up one of these days and accuse me loudly of violating community norms and other whatnot for not using the templates. So I want to finish my corrections before this person emerges and starts problems. I'll probably finish the list in a few days. Timothy Perper (talk) 07:46, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. I'll be able to participate after the weekend. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 20:42, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Go look at User: Timothy Perper/Test for a wonderful example of how the templates screw up. Timothy Perper (talk) 20:52, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the complete array of fields in the web citation template. I figured something like that had to be true. I'm not going to post the cmts on this example, because either way the person who did it comes out not too well. And that makes my point: Don't use the goddamn template if you don't know what you're doing. I'll rework the example and see if I can make it more helpful and pointed—a tricky balancing act. I'll float it past you before I put it on the manga talk page. Thx. Timothy Perper (talk) 01:08, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I finished checking the references[edit]

I didn't catch all the errors, I'm sure. That would take a LOT more work than I have time for. So go look at my comment about "Phasing Out" on the manga talk page. I think we did a damn good job, not perfect, but very good. What happens next depends on how other people edit the article, and it's no longer in my hands. I'll continue to watchlist the article, making minor fixes and whatnot, but nothing major. Timothy Perper (talk) 22:26, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You did a great job. I'll look into it in the coming days. Someone will come along and want to put in the hours to finish it off to GA, maybe even me. The framework and references are there. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 01:18, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. You were an enormous and crucial help. The big problem section is "Publications," which has some OR stuff and almost no refs. The whole article now needs experienced editors, not newbies and wannabes, but people familiar with the details of referencing and of the GA process (to name only two) who can take it the next steps. You're certainly qualified. I agree that the framework and refs are now in place (that was one my purposes!). What happens next is up to other folks. I'm not going to vanish from Wiki, but my time on manga will be limited. Onwards! -- and thanks again. Timothy Perper (talk) 06:42, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Credits[edit]

That's quite a problem. Maybe the solution would be a link to the history section of wikipedia, which in theory, should exist in the redirects. I'm waiting for a GFDL expert to help me with that sort of issues.. I previously thought to have one, but it turned out to be one of those editors obsessed with blocking, erasing, and destroying rather that fixing and improving, which is the kind of positive and creative attitude I'm encouraging in Pop-Cult.org (discouraging, of course the other as against clearly our policies).

I'm very interested in getting editors and administrators in that sort of matters, especially since we're just begining. Could you give me a little help?--20-dude (talk) 01:47, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've never actually done it myself. They have some instructions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Transwiki. User:Ned Scott has a bot that can help you do a bunch at once, and he knows how to do it. He's probably the best guy to ask (although he's a bit deletionist); I'm willing to help as well. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 06:22, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged Image:How_I_Met_Your_Mother_s01e21.png as a disputed use of non-free media, because there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please clarify your fair use rationale on the image description page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 04:08, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 04:39, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to let you know that I've replied to the suggestions people made when they peer reviewed the manga article. The replies are on the peer review page. I explained why I accepted some, but not other, suggestions. Timothy Perper (talk) 20:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hunter × Hunter episode 13.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hunter × Hunter episode 13.png.

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Gem dragons, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Nihonjoe wants to put the manga article up for FAC[edit]

Which is nice of him indeed. I know very little abour FAC, and will defer to people who do. I sort of thought that GAC came first, but I guess not?

Disruptions from Beyond silence are calming down, so maybe he'll stop his edit wars and let us get on with working on the $%^& article.

What's the best way to handle the redlinks? I put them in, hoping that people would come along and add stubs and new stuff, and I didn't know that they'd be a problem later on. Maybe I should unredlink them?

Timothy Perper (talk) 13:25, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If he wants to put it up, that's fine. Anyone can do it. You can go through GA, peer review, and then FA if you want, or you can skip ahead. Hopefully he's doing it because he has time to address any issues that are raised. Even if he doesn't see the process through, we'll learn what needs to be done. You can remove the red links if you want, or wait and see if people think it's an issue. One thing to note is that the process can seem harsh, so don't take it personally. Another thing is that frequently one person will want the article one way, and another will want it the opposite, so it's best not to blindly do every "improvement" that's suggested right away. Instead wait for a consensus to appear. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 19:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You betcha I won't take it personally. I'll handle any complaints by accepting the ones I like and politely declining the others -- the same as I did for the peer review. Nihonjoe is fixing some of the redlinks, and I got rid of others. It's a very simple job. I am quite curious what some of these hotshots (= wannabe hotshots?) think of the article. Oh well, we'll see. Timothy Perper (talk) 20:27, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, my take on FA's on Wiki is that they're (a) publicity for Wikipedia, (b) part of their claim that Wikipedia is "as good as" the Britannica (Good Lord, is THAT a sore point!), and (c) written at about the level of a good popular magazine, the kind where you read about pandas or French grapes in a dentist's office. That means standard-style commercial magazine journalism. It's an artform of its own, but it's not my idea of what Wikipedia needs to become or should be.
One sticking-point in the FAC process is going to be the reference list. There will be people who do not want so many references at all. Others won't care or will actually be positive. I'm adopting a wait-and-see attitude about this (and other foreseeable) issues.
Oh well. Onwards! Timothy Perper (talk) 21:05, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New articles/stubs for manga artists?[edit]

Are you willing to help create some new stub/articles for a few manga artists? (We're still getting rid of redlinks in the article.) The artists are listed on the Manga talk page in the "Peer review over?" section way at the bottom -- about 7-8 of them. User:Nihonjoe has been making some new entries and he asked if anyone was willing to help out. It can't hurt. Timothy Perper (talk) 04:19, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe, I don't really know anything about the various mangaka, but I could look for some refs. FA is only concerned with the article itself, and redlinks do not effect it, though. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 16:36, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem -- I was merely checking if you wanted to do anything along those lines. Nihonjoe and Quasirandom are busily cleaning up this list, which is fine with me. I'm mostly just watching at this point. Timothy Perper (talk) 18:45, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated List of less common dragons in Dungeons & Dragons, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of less common dragons in Dungeons & Dragons and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:59, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FA criteria for manga article[edit]

Over on the manga talk page, Nihonjoe asked if the manga article now meets the FA criteria. I expressed a few opinions and recommended getting more input. Can you comment about this? Timothy Perper (talk) 14:57, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nihonjoe and Sesshomaru have been busy little bees removing, shortening, and truncating stuff from the article (they moved the entire history section to History of manga, which I've been intending to do for a while). I'm just sitting back and watching the show. Timothy Perper (talk) 18:17, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Centralized TV Episode Discussion[edit]

Over the past months, TV episodes have been reverted by (to name a few) TTN, Eusebeus and others. Discussion is here [1]. --Maniwar (talk) 18:40, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Boy Meets World s01e01.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Boy Meets World s01e01.png.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:51, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
