Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Johns Hopkins Mental Notes, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Johns Hopkins Mental Notes seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Johns Hopkins Mental Notes, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Speedy deletion of Johns hopkins mental notes[edit]

A tag has been placed on Johns hopkins mental notes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Suggestions to avoid re-deletion[edit]

First, let me say "Thank you"! As a long-time contributer to Wikipedia, I get a lot of "Why was my article deleted!?!?" and sometimes I get far more .. coarse comments :) Yours is a breath of fresh air!

Okay - now to the nitty gritty. The short answer is to take a look at Wikipedia's notability guidelines as well as the guidelines for musical groups. The latter is the best one to apply in your case. I assume "Mental Notes" has been on tour? Perhaps internationally? If not, have they won any awards? And finally, if those fail, are there any publications (preferably more than one) that are independent of the group (not promotional), about the group, and from a reliable source? Satisfying at least one of those when you recreate the article will keep it from speedy deletion.

To review your listing, Binghamton Crosbys states right off that they have won an award, though it's possible that it doesn't qualify as a "major award". Katzenjammers states that it's the oldest. Penny Loafers is an absolute mess and should either be deleted or fully re-written. Radcliffe Pitches is probably a borderline case. I personally wouldn't put it up for deletion, but others might. They're all written by their respective members (presumably), which is probably why they have such different styles, etc.

I'm going to add one of the standard "Welcome" messages right below here. There are several links there of things you might want to read. Oh - and you may want to create your article within your own userspace. That doesn't make it impervious, but it's relatively rare for anyone to mark a userpage for deletion. That gives you time to write it out, provide references, and perhaps even get someone to review it before releasing it to the wolves.

By the way, what's the difference between the MentalNotes and the AllNighters, which are listed at List of collegiate a cappella groups (though they don't have an article either)?

Hope that helps - and feel free to drop me a note if you have any further questions! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 23:39, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I thought I was safe because I did have a few independent publications listed. The thing that might be the most simple solution - listing awards - is impossible, since the Mental Notes do not participate in competitions as a matter of group constitutional law. I will try to add a section on touring, because that is something that the Mental Notes have done excessively.

For the Hopkins groups listed on the List of collegiate a cappella groups, the All Nighters are an all-male group, and are not a comedy group. They also compete in things like the ICCA. The Octopodes and Vocal Chords are two other co-ed groups. While they all have their own styles, they don't have the equivalent niche of "comedy" that the Mental Notes do. Ah hah! Gotcha. You might include a bit of that in the article, especially if there's some third-party description of the different groups. I have a feeling there will be somewhere, since that's a rather large number of a capella singing groups to have at one school. Anyway, good luck on that - and feel free to write me a note on my talk page if I can help with anything! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 03:05, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Removal of a speedy tag is a capital offence punishable by suspension. However I have decided to be merciful. Please stick to the version with correct capitalisation. -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 18:33, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I was trying to figure out how to correct the capitalization. The version I posted up wasn't trying to get around things - I added some more references and tried to show more relevance with tour data/uniqueness, as well as relation to the university, but mostly it was the addition of references that was different. It (the capitalization) seems to have been corrected - if it was you, then thanks. Pelo247 (talk) 17:43, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
