Hi Pakaraki, Excellent work on NPPS. Are you able to provide a References section at the bottom with your sources? Cheers. Grimhim (talk) 21:10, 10 February 2008 (UTC) References added to New Plymouth Power Station[reply]

Re: Help: List of LNG Terminals[edit]

Hi, Pakaraki. I think that Hu12 refers more specifically to the WP:NOTDIR. Personally for me it is little bit unclear how this policy is implemented. I recommend to leave a question at Hu12's talk page and start discussion at the article talk page.Beagel (talk) 07:23, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your request for data[edit]

On 17 August, you left a talk page request for "a chart showing contribution from specific sources (e.g. hydro, wind, coal, oil, geothermal, etc.)". This data is available from the MED Energy Data File 2008, and I have added a chart of this data to the article. --Pakaraki (talk) 22:49, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome, thanks for tracking that down. It was quite illuminating. -- Beland (talk) 01:42, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CSD tag removed. Thanks for explaining your points so well. You should make sure and link the article off of the larger scope project I mentioned on the articles talk page. Cheers, and happy editing! DigitalNinjaWTF 07:36, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what you mean here. Awhitu is one of 12 proposed wind projects listed at Wind power in New Zealand. --Pakaraki (talk) 07:40, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Te Waka Wind Farm, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Te Waka Wind Farm is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Te Waka Wind Farm, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. East Coast Basin/Trans-Orient Petroleum/oil shale[edit]

Hi, Pakaraki. I just find this article and discovered that there is no article in Wikipedia about the East Coast Basin or about Trans-Orient Petroleum. I have a feeling that probably they are worth to have their own articles. What you think? As I am not familiar with New Zealand's topics, maybe you are interested to create these articles? Regards. Beagel (talk) 16:13, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Canvassing[edit]

Please don't canvass for a particular outcome on an RFA, as you have done for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bruce Simpson. The correct method of bringing an RFA to people's attention is to list it at the appropriate deletion sorting pages; in this case Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/New Zealand. I see that User:Beeblebrox has done this.-gadfium 07:43, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Energy Direct[edit]

A tag has been placed on Energy Direct requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Waitahora Wind Farm[edit]

Hi Pakaraki, the Energy News link you gave for Horizons opinion on the consent hearing decision doesn't appear to have open access, can you please replace it with one that does? There may be an article about this on Stuff ex the Manawatu Standard, although I couldn't find it easily. Thanks. Stuart Christopher Brown (talk) 08:43, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is a subscription news service unfortunately. I looked for an open news article, but couldn't find one. Also, it appears Horizons haven't put this info on their website. Hopefully, one of the mainsteam media will pick up the story. In the meantime, I believe you can get a free trial account on Energy News. --Pakaraki (talk) 19:27, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'd like to replace the simulated image for the Waitahora wind farm, to one that shows more clearly the wind farm itself and landscape issues. It is taken from DOC land and was supplied in evidence as I have stated on the file (Waitahora windfarm from Oporae.tif). I just thought I should discuss it with you first since I think you added the image that's there now. Thanks. Stuart Christopher Brown (talk) 02:26, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Duncan. Thanks for checking things. I was relying on William "Action" Jackson which is a redirect to William Jackson (gangster). Perhaps we have two different people named William Action Jackson? --Pakaraki (talk) 02:09, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently so - for the 19th century English child-killer is certainly not the 20th century Chicago hood. DuncanHill (talk) 09:02, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've done a little research on the child killer, he doesn't seem to have been called "Action" so I've unlinked him and removed that epithet. He's unlikely ever to get an article of his own. DuncanHill (talk) 09:09, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Good work, thanks for that. --Pakaraki (talk) 19:38, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citing sources[edit]

Hi Pakaraki -- I just wanted to drop you a quick note about your edits to the TBI Solicitors article. Generally, once a citation style has been chosen for an article, you should not change it without building consensus first (see WP:CITE). It's quite common for articles to use the style that you removed (it's explained in more detail here). Actually, I think it's by far the best of the various competing styles currently used around the place, because (IMHO) it strikes the right balance between including detailed bibliographic data, and still leaving the article easily readable by human eyes looking at it in edit mode. As it happens, I reverted the article to an earlier version anyway to remove a lot of non-notable content about a vandalism incident here on Wikipedia. I hope you won't be too annoyed by this! Cheers --Rlandmann (talk) 12:59, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RL. Sorry about that. I hadn't seen that style of citation before (and haven't read through ALL the wiki policy pages yet). It seems unnecessarily awkward to have an additional step when tracing a reference, but if that's the consensus for this article, I'm ok with that. --Pakaraki (talk) 19:45, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dow AgroSciences Oils Business[edit]

Pakarki - I have engaged in the talk page to seek an update of the wiki entry for Dow AgroSciences regarding this entry: Dow AgroSciences is also supplying various American fast-food restaurants, including Taco Bell, with Natreon, its canola based oil. The oil, said to be twice as healthy as olive oil with twice as much omega-3 and half as many saturated fats, is said to be healthier than most, if not all, of the oils currently used in the preparation of food.[1]

We do not sell a product called Natreon. We are hoping to get an update to the entry to reflect the statement below:

Dow AgroSciences is supplying fast-food restaurants, including Taco Bell, with Omega-9 Oils, formerly known as Natreon™. These oils were developed by Dow AgroSciences and are derived from NEXERA™ canola and sunflower seeds. Omega-9 Oils are said to have zero trans fat, low saturated fat and high monounsaturated omega-9 fat, which studies show contribute to heart health. Omega-9 Oils were developed to help the foodservice and food manufacturing industries replace bad fats in consumers’ diets.

I did engage on the Talk page for the entry but have received no response. Your assistance in updating the entry is appreciated. Ldcalvin (talk) 17:58, 21 July 2010 (UTC)Ldcalvin[reply]

This is an automated message from VWBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Drayton Valley Power, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Valley Power. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. VWBot (talk) 04:54, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Now have a disambig page for Valley Power. --Pakaraki (talk) 06:35, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FYI[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Valley Power a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. I have fixed the history of the article in this case. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:34, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:23, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

Please see WP:CORP to find out why I placed the notability tag on those articles. I'm sure that all of those companies are very notable, but Wikipedia's standards of notability are a bit different than mine or yours. Those articles lack what Wikipedia refers to as "reliable secondary sources," which are the standard by which Wikipedia policy defines notability for companies. Thanks, –BMRR (talk) 17:10, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on WEL Networks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Cntras (talk) 06:58, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I think we need a more reasonable approach to speedy deletion. This article subject is obviously notable (fifth largest electricity distribution company, wikilinks from across the NZ electricity articles, large numbers of google hits, etc), but the article was just a stub when first created (as would be the case for almost all new articles). The deletion threat tag has now been removed. --Pakaraki (talk) 20:51, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

National Grid (New Zealand)[edit]

Hi, I am considering a major rework of the page National Grid (New Zealand). It has not had much new content for some time, and is out of date. I am willing to completely refresh and update the content. However, before I do so, I seek feedback about what to do with the page Whakamaru to Brownhill Road transmission line. One option is that the content be merged back into the main National Grid page. The Whakamaru to Brownhill road transmission line is notable, and is a particularly large project, but if this page is left as-is it is perhaps somewhat stranded. There are unlikely to be other pages written about other lines, and ultimately what is important to our electricity system is the transmission network, not individual lines. I am currently undecided about whether to support leaving the page as a separate entity. Can I have some feedback please before I commence work ? I will also need to know how to remove an existing page, if that is what you recommend. Thanks Marshelec (talk) 06:12, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a great move! After all, one of the Wikipedia guidelines is to be bold. The appropriate place to discuss such things is on the article's talk page, which I see you have done for the grid article. As for the Whakamaru line article, there are procedures to delete or merge articles, but again, the place to start is on the article's talk page. I'll try to get some time to look at it this weekend, but hopefully others will respond on the talk pages. --Pakaraki (talk) 18:21, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:10, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:PortOfTauranga-logo.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 08:25, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
