British India

British India is a more precise term, referring to the regions of the British Indian Empire directly administered by the British. Nehru was born in British India, not in a princely state. Compare with infobox of Gandhi. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 08:17, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

PS I just realized, why you had made the changes. British India automatically links to Presidencies and provinces of British India. It was, however, incorrectly linked to British Raj, which was also called the Indian Empire. I have now corrected the links. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 08:26, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

The whole country was known as Indian Empire. Passports to all citizens (whether from a Princely state or not) were issued under the name 'Indian Empire'. PaachuvumKovaalanum (talk) 08:31, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

• I noticed your edits. Do you have a scholarly reference to back up your opinion that "India during British rule was officially known as the 'Indian Empire', NOT British India. Passports were issued under the name 'Indian Empire' during the time"? Have you discussed this centrally and established a consensus prior to these mass edits? --John (talk) 09:20, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
• Thanks John for noticing the edits and responding to them soon. A consensus would be required only if there is a confusion. Hi John! Thanks for responding to my recent edits. I am afraid I never found a reason for a detailed discussion and a resulting consensus for a 'fact'. Probably a misjudgement on my part. I request you to take this discussion forward further(if required). The fact can be established with this article alone, as it contains images of the passport.
