Disambiguation link notification for February 18[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited West Grinstead, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Littleworth. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Explanations/references[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Guliolopez (talk) 18:45, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try my best. OutlasterGuto (talk) 18:48, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That's all we can do. Please also take a look at MOS:LISTBULLET and MOS:FULLSTOP. Bulleted items, that are not a complete sentence or are a sentence fragment, do not necessarily need terminal punctuation. This type of edit for example isn't really adding a lot and isn't entirely consistent with the related manual of style. Guliolopez (talk) 18:51, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I notice that you are still adding full-stops in places where MOS:BULLETLIST would advise against. Seemingly across lots of articles. Can you take another look at the related guideline? In short, unless a list item is a full/proper sentence, terminal punctuation (a full stop) is not used. Guliolopez (talk) 10:26, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. OutlasterGuto (talk) 19:01, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. We're all learning/improving over time. In that vein, could I recommend that you also take a quick look at the MOS:LEADSTUB and MOS:OVERSECTION guidelines? (The first which talks about how and why short stub articles [<400 words or so] don't need much subdivision. And the second of which covers how and why overuse of section headings can interrupt article flow and that "Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrant their own subheading".) I propose maybe taking a look at these guides as quite a number of your edits (like these [1] [2]) seem to be to add section headings where, perhaps, they aren't strictly needed or in line with those conventios. Guliolopez (talk) 02:43, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hiya. By way of explanation, and as noted above, short/stub articles (<400 words or so) don't necessarily benefit from splitting into sections (not "for the sake of it"). Also, while past tense, a primary school's recent/2021 enrollment isn't "history" (not as much as Knights Hospitaller/Crusades). Guliolopez (talk) 00:08, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Again. Me again. Same two points. Again. In terms of:

  • Using edit summaries (to explain content changes), I note that you still aren't using them. You mentioned that you would try. Could you please?
  • Using/dating citations (to support content/changes), I note that you are adding "access-dates" to URLs that appear to be dead. Or which otherwise don't support the text. As per the docs for 'cite web', the "access-date" parameter is for the "date when the content pointed to by url was last verified to support the text in the article". Some of the links you are dating are dead, do not support the text or otherwise no longer support the text. Unless you are actually undertaking a verification check there is no reason to change or add access dates.

Thanks. Guliolopez (talk) 01:41, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

NAVBOX v CAT[edit]

Hi. Me again. I have a quick question for you: What, in your view, is the purpose of the Template:County Mayo navbox?

Relative, say, to the purpose of the Category:Townlands of County Mayo, Category:Towns and villages in County Mayo and Category:Baronies of County Mayo categories?

I ask because, to my view (and my read of the WP:NAVBOX guidelines) there is limited value in having every single member of these types of categories repeated/listed in a NAVBOX. Not least when the subjects do not refer to each other or might otherwise be a candidate for a "see also" section.

To put it another way, we now have a situation where Ballindine (a village of 350 people which is a distinct subject in its own right) is listed alongside Ballymacrah (a small townland which is effectively part of Castlebar). In the NAVBOX. As if they were somewhat equivalent or related. Or as if the reader might reasonably need assistance navigating from the article on Ballindine to that on Ballymacrah. .

While I already have my concerns with this recent movement to replicate and republish every single entry in Townlands.ie as a standalone Wikipedia article, I really don't see the value in adding and inter-linking articles on every small townland in that NAVBOX (especially those that already geographically overlap with subjects already in the NAVBOX. Like Castlebar).

Frankly, by adding every townland to that NAVBOX, I think we are hindering the reader's ability to distinguish the wood from the trees.... Guliolopez (talk) 20:38, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good purpose, to be honest. OutlasterGuto
