ArbCom 2017 election voter message
Hello, Oronsay. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Question
I was wondering why you were adding red links for only some of the entries in 2018 Australia Day Honours. I created a page for Maree Teesson, but I can't create pages at anything like the speed that you are adding red links. Do you intend to write these pages yourself? - Hi Pdfpdf. Thank you for creating the Maree Teesson article so promptly. I have gathered an amount of research for most of the other links I created today. Initially I was adding all the recipients of lower orders in the General Division. I now see you've added quite a few of the OAMs. After adding groups of recipients I checked for links. Then I thought if I create some extra redlinks bots would pick them up and include them on lists of redlinks from which someone might create articles. However, I take your point and will revert to only making links when I am ready to fill them. I certainly did not wish to offend.--Oronsay (talk) 08:41, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Barbara Ramsden Award
Thanks for starting the article, I had compiled a table of most of the winners after writing the Barbara Ramsden article and getting a photo of the award, but I also ran into some discrepancies between sources, which is why I didn't actually start it. I got the Henshaw/Anderson dates from AustLit (subscription only unfortunately, but you can see the dates greyed out!), but I'll look into it and see if I can find a firmer contemporary source. --Canley (talk) 01:05, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
- I see you used AustLit too. I see what you mean, that SA Awards article is from early 1988 and refers to Anderson's win being around that time. I suppose it could be the award being presented in April for the previous year? I also found a reference to Oskar Spate and Patricia Croft winning the award in 1983 for The Spanish Lake, which isn't mentioned here or on AustLit. --Canley (talk) 01:19, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Encyclopedia of Women and Leadership in Twentieth-Century Australia links
Hello, thanks for adding these links; I noticed you adding them at the Fiona Wood article. However, I have a couple of formatting quibbles with your additions ... the title of the encyclopedia should be italicised, the birth/death years should have an unspaced en dash between them rather than a spaced hyphen, and the heading title is always "External links", not "External link", even if there is only one. This is all summed up by this edit I made to the Mary Windeyer article. None of these things are *huge* deals ... if you don't want to fix them straight away, they'll probably be fixed by automated/semi-automated processes eventually, but I just thought I'd let you know about them anyway. - Graham, Thank you for pointing these three things out. The lack of italics in the encyclopedia title was an oversight on my part and I will correct them all and be more careful in future. I was unaware of the "External links" requirement, which makes total sense and I've noted for future edits. I am, however, aware of Wikipedia's requirement for using unspaced en dashes, but I followed the instructions added to what is now my userspace EWL Article List written by [User:Wittylama|Wittylama] in June 2014, which requested that the title of each entry in the encyclopedia to be copied and pasted without change. Kerry offered me the checklist, created by the late User:Lankiveil for the Sydney May 2014 editathon, which in turn was a global tribute to Adrianne Wadewitz. I have amended the checklist instructions but seek your further clarification on the subject of using unspaced en dashes in the face of so much history.Oronsay (talk) 21:32, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

- Hi, Ariconte, Thank you for pointing it out, but that is strange. It works fine for me but I've changed to link to the Wikipedia article about the Library.
- All the books and materials at The Women's Library (TWL) have been donated and are available for loan. Books are either by or about women. The Jessie Street Library has a greater focus on archives and research and is not a lending library except through inter-library loans.--Oronsay (talk) 02:19, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment "enthusiastic work on women" - one to share with my Women Write Wiki group at The Women's Library, Newtown. Are there no women botanists you come across in your plant work? Why don't you find and start articles about them so I can help develop their entries? The Women in Red project I mentioned does include eight Aussie women in a list created from Wikidata - Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by occupation/Botanists. - Hi Oronsay A few women spring to mind. I had no joy in sussing out anything about M. Hart, a prolific botanical artist, who I assume was a woman because of the single initial! (The men gloried in wonderful quadruple-barreled names.) She made 906 beautiful drawings for Curtis's Botanical Magazine see http://www.plantillustrations.org/artist.php?id_artist=580&mobile=0&size=0... But I see there is a good entry for Matilda Smith (with a gallery of 4663 illustrations in plantillustrations.org). Yet who has heard of Matilda Smith. Joy Garden (1923-) did early work from the National Herbarium of NSW and later, under her married name, (which does not spring to mind) worked in the herbarium in Perth (PERTH)... I wrote to the herbarium and also looked for a death notice but failed to find anything beyond her published names and therefore publications. Her botanical name abbreviation is J.Garden http://www.ipni.org/ipni/idAuthorSearch.do?id=3023-1, and remains that regardless of married names... PS. EWL Article List
Hi, Oronsay. I’ve been trying to organize the lists for the Women in Red project, and ran across User:Oronsay/EWL Article List (it’s categorized as a WiR redlist). I was going to ask if you wanted to move it into project space. However, after I looked at it, I realized it might be a bit confusing to new editors (especially), since its purpose differs from the other redlists. I wonder if you would be willing to add one step to your workflow, and add red entries to some of the crowd-sourced lists linked to on the Redlist index. - Hi, NotARabbit. Thanks for your message. Great idea! I agree it's confusing at the moment. I'd be happy to look into adding names to existing WiR redlists. If I keep the original list where it is I will see when an article is created and can then go and tag it with the Encyclopedia link, as the original creator of the list requested. Linking authors in citations
Hi again, thanks for linking authors at pages like [[Kangaroo Island][, but please use the authorlink/editor-link parameters for that in future, like I just did. Adding direct wikilinks can mess up the microformats which are used by software that processes citations. Not a big deal, but just thought I'd let you know. Graham87 16:39, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Edith Coleman. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:
|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]
Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:
|image=SomeImage.jpg.
There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Women's bio stubs
I see you are noticing the women's minimal bio stubs that I created using ADB as the primary source. As I noted in the initial edit summary, these were prepared for an International Women's Day related event that ultimately didn't take place. The intention had been that new and relatively inexperienced Wikipedians would expand the stubs (which I had created as minimally as possible in advance to avoid the problems associated with new/inexperienced people trying to create articles which bedevils those kind of events). But, as I say, the event didn't happen, so do feel free to do whatever you like with the articles. Kerry (talk) 07:18, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
