19:09:56, 19 June 2016 review of submission by Miskonius

HI OmniFlames,

Can you specify with which references are you exactly having problem with? There is 3 out 12 references concerning the product site, I am not sure how can that be qualified as "most references"? Miskonius (talk) 19:09, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

@Miskonius: Perhaps not most of them, but still 4 of them are from the company's website, which is a reasonably large number. In addition, the reliability of the other sources is questionable.

OK please specify with which particular sources you are having problems with? Miskonius (talk) 19:22, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Fried chicken

On 22 June 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Fried chicken, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Burger King withdrew an advert featuring Mary J. Blige singing about a crispy chicken wrap due to the racial stereotype associated with fried chicken? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Fried chicken. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Fried chicken), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

11:34:47, 22 June 2016 review of submission by Ina Matronics

Hej there, I have just read that the article i have created about a LED company - Matronics ApS has bben declined on the ground that there is no relieble sources. But I have spent a lot of time, making sure that everything i have stated is online , quated on other websites, different from the company website - matronics.eu. Can you please have a second look and see what i mean :) Thank you in advanced for the help!

Hi, the reason I declined it was because all of the references are what we call "bare URLs". See WP:BARE for how to fix this. Omni Flames (talk) 22:42, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

The feedback request service is asking for participation in this request for comment on Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion. Legobot (talk) 04:24, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

WP:LINKVIO says "if you know or reasonably suspect that an external Web site is carrying a work in violation of the creator's copyright, do not link to that copy of the work." This applies to the link, not the citation. The citation can remain without the link and it would not infringe any copyrights. BrightRoundCircle (talk) 19:18, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

I've reverted your edit. See this, that particular website is known to have been hosting copyright infringing copies of works. Whether or not this applies to references or not doesn't matter, as this wasn't a reference. Omni Flames (talk) 21:55, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
I see. Thanks for letting me know. Still, if the citation is not a bare URL, it could be saved by removing only the URL. BrightRoundCircle (talk) 22:56, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User talk:Gopaldgpcc, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Leapfroglobal Group

Hi Omni Flames

Thanks for reviewing the page I created. I appreciate your feedback, although I'm inclined to state that the websites I've referenced are a mix of authors who have actually taken time to give coverage to the company. Could you perhaps give more specific advice on how my article can be further improved?

Regards, thewongthoughts — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thewongthoughts (talkcontribs) 09:33, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

@Thewongthoughts: I suppose I should've been more specific in my comment. The sources you have are good, but there are simply not enough of them. The "CHIP" website is used too much as a source. Also, the article has a slight promotional tone. Omni Flames (talk) 12:00, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

14:12:06, 24 June 2016 review of submission by Justin Jaron Lewis

I do not understand why this article has been turned down again.

Also, I see that other hands have been involved in editing it without consulting me. If these edits had been helpful in getting the article accepted I would be glad, but since they have not led to acceptance and have deleted material I thought was important, I don't understand why they were done.

The rejection has the same wording as was used before the last many edits. In those edits, however, I tried to address each of these concerns.

"Reads like an advertisement" -- this comment was made on an earlier draft in which I had included several quotations in praise of Buxbaum and his work. I deleted those quotations from the submitted draft. For example, rather than quote the high praise given to Buxbaum's book in several reveiws, I have simply mentioned that there are reviews and provided references to them. I don't see anything in the current draft which is not a statement of fact. -- Also, could the reviewer not edit out anything that "reads like an advertisement"?

"Reliable, independent sources": I have added a bibliography of Buxbaum's books, most of them from well-established publishers. The source references include reviews devoted to Buxbaum's work in well-regarded journals, as well as passages in printed books recognizing his importance.

"Notability" -- First of all, someone has deleted the sections I added about venues where Buxbaum has taught and told stories, and websites of or articles about some of his ordinees. These were intended to further establish his notability and I do not know why they have been deleted.

Otherwise, I cannot understand how an author of several significant books, storyteller recognized by the most important people in the storytelling world, and teacher of accomplished students, is not "notable." As was mentioned in a previous discussion, this is also a man at the end of his career. It is not as if I am trying to promote some up-and-coming young author whose worth has yet to be established.

Please reconsider this article for acceptance. Could it perhaps be reviewed by someone who is familiar with the world of Jewish spirituality or the storytelling revival?

With thanks.

@Justin Jaron Lewis: Firstly, people are more than welcome to edit the draft if they want, and they can do anything they wish to it. You don't own the article, no one has to ask you before editing it, and if someone does choose to edit it, you can't tell them not to. Also, their edits had nothing to do with the rejection of your article. Anyway, the reason I declined your draft is because it still has a heavily promotional tone. Words like "inspirational" and "innovatively" are what we call weasel words and should be removed. Omni Flames (talk) 22:25, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
@Omni Flames: Thank you for clarifying the editing policy. It seems like a weird policy though! What is being reviewed is not necessarily what I submitted -- what if what I submitted was better?

I disagree with your assessment of the words you mentioned. An "inspirational speaker" is someone who tries to inspire people. That is what it is called. "Innovatively" simply means that it was an innovation, something not done before. In any case that did not refer to Yitzhak Buxbaum, the subject of the article, but to his teacher Shlomo Carlebach.

But, if there are words in the article that prevented you from accepting it, could you not simply delete those words?

Please reconsider your rejection of the article. Thank you.

 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justin Jaron Lewis (talkcontribs) 22:31, 24 June 2016 (UTC)
@Justin Jaron Lewis: It's certainly not a weird policy... Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anyone can edit, so we can't have people just claiming ownership of articles and not letting anyone edit them. In my opinion, your version wasn't better, as it had unnecessary content that didn't belong in the article. Anyway, it doesn't matter who the words refer to, it's still promotional. That's not all about the article that's promotional. The draft as a whole is very positive and reads like an advertisement. Omni Flames (talk) 22:44, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

@CityGirl2: Yeah, your draft seems to be on the right track now. The citations you've put in are excellent. The only thing I would suggest is splitting your text into sections, see WP:SECT. Omni Flames (talk) 23:39, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi there - thanks SO much for your prompt response and suggestion to add headings. It looks much better. I also added a reference with a link to a document set for public viewing on Google Drive. Is that acceptable? I hope so, as it is a powerful source. Thanks again. CityGirl2 (talk) 05:11, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

@CityGirl2: Hmmm... did you publish the document on Google Drive? If so, where did you get it from? Omni Flames (talk) 05:16, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

06:09:29, 25 June 2016 review of submission by CityGirl2

I was searching for a verifiable source linking CAVO to New Hampshire, and the San Francisco Election Commission used it in one of their updates they provided to OSI (Open Source Initiative). I didn't want to use OSI as a reference because most of their information that qualifies as an actual news source isn't related to voting.CityGirl2 (talk) 06:09, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

@CityGirl2: If you found the content on an external site, you should use the original reference to that site, rather than reuploading it somewhere else. Omni Flames (talk) 06:11, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

GAs

Along with Mayday! Deep Space, I suggest you withdraw the other two GANs. IMHO, Space Marshals and Sneaky Sneaky both fail the GA criteria, and TBH, barely make it into B-Class. I'd rate them both at a mid C-Class rating. They're headed in the right direction, but they all need expansion. Try examining some other video game GAs for an idea on what to aim towards. (I'm not saying I'm an expert at this, I don't have any GAs to my name (but I'm working on one), this is just advice). Try talking to AdrianGamer, Rhain or Czar. They're very experienced at writing video game GAs. Anarchyte (work | talk) 13:56, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

@Anarchyte: I'd be interested to know how you think they need expansion. I understand that the articles are both rather short, but length has nothing to do with the GA criteria. Obviously articles on small, indie, mobile games are going to have smaller articles than the more popular AAA titles. Omni Flames (talk) 00:12, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
Basically, both of them have the same issues that were found in the Mayday article. The references need double checking and areas like reception could use some expansion. Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject_Video_games/Indie#Articles for some good Indie articles. Anarchyte (work | talk) 05:13, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. I appreciate the link you just gave me, I'll take a look at some of the examples there, although the first one I clicked was actually rather similar in size and coverage. I'm not sure how exactly the reception sections could be expanded. I've pretty much covered all of the reviews. Perhaps I will take another look at the references, but other than that the problems your brought up with the Mayday! article don't really seem to apply here. Can you please tell me how much time it need to change my user name??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xsnoper (talkcontribs) 09:43, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi Xsnoper! I see you've filed a request at WP:CHU. I am not a global renamer, so I can't help you with your request. However, you've done everything right there, and so it's just a matter of time before someone comes across your request and processes it. Hope that helps!
And, wow, Anarchyte, that was a quick response! Omni Flames (talk) 09:45, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

And kindly tell me how can i made my account a trusted account not a spammy acc ount because today i have gone to upload image regarding my knowledge but message appears you account is not confirmed kindly tell me to become trusted ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xsnoper (talkcontribs) 09:50, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

@Xsnoper: What you're referring to is the status known as autoconfirmed. The right is automatically granted after four days and ten edits, so the bar for becoming autoconfirmed is very low. However, once you do become autoconfirmed, you're able to upload images, edit semiprotected pages and a number of other things. Good luck with editing, and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask! Omni Flames (talk) 09:54, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

So kindly tell me sir can i edit some page like i have a great knowledge about fashion, music and some other so can i edit minor some page with my knowledge to become a trusted and auto confirmed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xsnoper (talkcontribs) 09:58, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

@Xsnoper: You can edit any page out there that isn't protected, which is over 95% of them. If you're interested in music or fashion, why not try joining a WikiProject, such as WikiProject Fashion, or WikiProject Music? From there, you can collaborate with other users who have similar interests to you, and find pages you might like to edit! As for becoming autoconfirmed, you will automatically be promoted once you've been on for 4 days and have made 10 edits. Omni Flames (talk) 10:04, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
Xsnoper becomes autoconfirmed has started. (refresh) Anarchyte (work | talk) 10:12, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
@Anarchyte: I think your calculations are off, it only takes four days to become autoconfirmed... Omni Flames (talk) 10:14, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

Sir can i create my own pages with unique and quality article and can i publish it in my interest like fashion, music and others i will publish those articles in wikipedia regarding music and fashion which wikipedia has not ?????? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xsnoper (talkcontribs) 10:09, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Yes you can, but make sure to read WP:FIRSTARTICLE and WP:NOTABOUTYOU. I suggest you try out Articles for Creation to gain experience. Anarchyte (work | talk) 10:12, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

@Omni Flames: but sir i am also not understanding how i can check my auto confirmed or user rights status :( Xsnoper (talk) 11:26, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
When you get autoconfirmed, it will come up on all the links we've provided. Here's mine, note the "autoconfirmed" tag. Yours doesn't say anything right now becaues you don't have any user rights, besides being registered. Anarchyte (work | talk) 11:28, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

18:32:59, 26 June 2016 review of submission by Brachney

Dear Friend, Thanks. I was of course disappointed that my first submission was rejected, but such is life. It took weeks to put together, so I'm inclined at this point to drop out after seeing this article through. Since this is my first attempt posting an original item, you are almost certainly right. At this point, I have 3 questions.

1. The first is that Wikipedia says that the topic BELIEF PERSEVERANCE (BP) already exists. But it doesn't, really. What you have is that the subject is briefly covered under the rubric CONFIRMATION BIAS. I feel that BP is sufficiently important to deserve its own entry. Am I right, or am I wasting my time and the submission will be rejected in principle?

2. The second question is: Is this more or less a final rejection, or a tentative one? If the most likely outcome is rejection, then I might as well cut my losses and volunteer somewhere else (wikipedia was going to be a retirement hobby).

3. The 3rd question involves my attempt to make the entry conform to encyclopedic standards, which failed. Could you or someone revise one or more of the glaring errors, so that I could a model the rest to conform to this requirement?

In conclusion, I feel that this is an important topic with wide implications that ought to be covered by Wikipedia. If the rejection of my effort is final, maybe someone else could undertake this project, perhaps even using my draft as a launching pad?

Thanks again, Brachney Brachney (talk) 18:32, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

@Brachney: Considering the fact that Belief perseverance already exists as a redirect, why not add the content of your draft to confirmation bias? That way, your information can be put into an already live Wikipedia article, and everyone will be able to see it. It also won't need to be reviewed first. Filters and things

Hi Omni, thanks for the barnstar! - I was just about to leave you a message regarding this request, so sorry if it looks like I'm hassling you! You seem very technically able, so the suggestions are really appreciated - going back to that request, given that a filter checks against every edit made, using one to prevent an IP from reverting one editor's edits would likely not be a good use of cycles. I can see you pointed this out to the editor which is great :) not sure if you are on IRC much, but I'll see you around! https://www.regex101.com/ is a great resource for regex debugging, and it has the required PCRE "flavor" -- samtar talk or stalk 10:10, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

@Samtar: Thanks, I appreciate your help here! I agree that I'm not sure this would be the best use of an edit filter. I understand that filters can be costly and that too many of them, especially expensive ones, can cause problems. And yes, I do enjoy fiddling with regexes, I have done so often with my AWB work in the past, and so I thought that helping out on WP:EF/R would be interesting, and I also saw that it's quite backlogged. I generally use RegExr for my regexes. Anyway, I am on IRC fairly often, so I'll see you around hopefully! Omni Flames (talk) 10:21, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Adopt me?

Hi there, I saw that you may be looking for adoptees. I'm looking for an adopter, (is that a word?) so I wouldn't mind if you are open to adopting me. I'm fifteen years old, live in Kansas, and really tend to correct people's English. (Maybe that's not such a good thing.) If you're interested, you can contact me via my Talk page or here (I'll watchlist your page). Thanks! —Preceding undated comment added 19:07, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Hey FletchXYZ! Nice to meet you and welcome to Wikipedia, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. I would be more than happy to adopt you . 06:43:38, 29 June 2016 review of submission by Paul 012

Hi. I was wondering how the current references are inadequate for establishing that the subject meets the notability guideline. Thanks. --Paul_012 (talk) 06:43, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

@Paul 012: There are currently nowhere near enough sources for an article here. You've listed five so far, this simply isn't enough to establish notability. The five you listed are good, but we need more in order to create an encyclopedia entry. Omni Flames (talk) 06:51, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Really? Since when have Wikipedia's standards become so stringent? The GNG actually states: "There is no fixed number of sources required since sources vary in quality and depth of coverage, but multiple sources are generally expected." I find it hard to follow that five sources is not enough for a one-paragraph stub article. --Paul_012 (talk) 07:26, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
It doesn't matter how long the article itself is, it still needs enough reliable sources so that notability can be shown. Also, I'm not even sure of the reliability of the references already listed there. Omni Flames (talk) 08:07, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
First you said they're good, now you say you're not sure of the reliability. Said references are news articles from Variety magazine, the Bangkok Post, The Nation, Thai Rath, and Positioning magazine. All of these are print newspapers/magazines published by well-established news organisations. Such sources are usually considered verifiable and reliable. Please see Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources for details.
Also, you didn't actually say why five different reliable sources aren't enough. --Paul_012 (talk) 08:46, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
You make a fair point. I have accepted the request. Omni Flames (talk) 09:38, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
