I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. Username and such[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. You may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the policy to not edit in a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

That message is a formal notice to explain my concern about your username better than I could in my own words, but please be aware that having a conflict of interest in and of itself does not mean you cannot edit Wikipedia - just that you should not, for example, be editing the entry on your own company. What you can, and should, do instead is use the article's talk page. Introduce yourself, explain your relationship, and detail the information you would like to see in the article. You may preface your comments by typing {{request edit}} if you like - it will explain the COI issue quickly for other editors. You will find that if you provide reliable sources for the information (which doesn't include your company's web site, blog, or any press releases) that editors will usually be happy to help you out.

Please feel free to hit me up on my talk page if you have any questions.otherlleft 15:56, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
