Some concerns regarding a banned website

Hi,

I am not sure if you are the right person to bring this issue up with and I apologize if you aren't. Please read reason # 1 below. A website about the Holocaust is blocked by Wikipedia for 2 years now. (holocaustresearchproject.org/ar/sobibor/sobiborrememberme.html)

This is the reason for the block of this website explained on: [wikipedia internal link]:

1) 'Associated with the death camps nonsense'. Interesting use of the word 'nonsense'. Maybe its time to re-evaluate the racist, revisionist who wrote such a terrible reason for banning a holocaust information website.

I wrote the article about Alexander Pechersky of Sobibor fame and am rewriting the main Sobibor article now, and this website has some interesting (referenced) information.

If you are not the correct person, perhaps you could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. Meishern (talk) 03:11, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Due to WP:COI, I avoid using any administritive power in certain subject matter, the Holocaust being one of them. I would think, though, that since this is the globalblack list, that you should deal with this at the meta - at a guess, I would say meta:Talk:Spam blacklist. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 07:17, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Twinkle

I have a query about Twinkle. When I used to use it, I used to be able to rollback the edit and twinkle would pop up and allow me to send the user a message. Now it only says undo and I have to manually save the page and Twinkle doesn't work properly. I bypassed my browser cache and it still wont work. Any ideas? CuteMice (talk) 10:06, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

File-class articles

Hi, can you stop what you are doing with these Image-class categories for the moment. It is not just a question of recategorising the subcategories of Category:Image-Class articles. The nomination was about "moving" all the categories to their File-class equivalents. This is a lot more complicated and needs to be better thought out. On top of that the nominator User:Black Falcon, who was going to be in charge, seems to be inactive at the moment. If you'd like to help coordinate it that would be great - I think we need a dedicated page where we can plan what needs to be done and in what order (essentially create 600 categories, make the change to the templates, and then delete 600 categories). But at the moment all you are doing is filling up Category:WikiProject assessment categories needing attention. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:19, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I'll stop. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 14:28, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Filter 351 warning message

I reviewed many of the hits of filter 351 and it appears it is functioning as was expected of it. If you agree with my evaluation, I think a warning message and a tag is the next step. I've created a warning message and I want your feedback. Sole Soul (talk) 04:55, 17 August 2010 (UTC) Sole Soul (talk) 04:55, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Warning moved to correct place, slightly modified (see here what I did) and set up as a warning for the filter. What should the tag be named? עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:03, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. The filter name "Text added after categories and interwiki" is clear enough to be the name of the tag. Sole Soul (talk) 17:02, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Hey Od Mishehu, I was wondering if you'd comment/question me on my request to join the Edit filter manager group, please? Thanks! Endofskull (talk) 16:03, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for closing this MfD. Would you delete User talk:Meisfunny/Topeka and User:Meisfunny/Sandbox as well? Consensus at the MfD seemed to support deleting User:Meisfunny/Sandbox. Thanks, Cunard (talk) 07:13, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I was active on the edit filters, I thought a filter was only marked private if it targeted a case of long term abuse? Most of the people triggering this filter are "drive-by" newbies who won't try to defeat the system by looking at the code. (If you insist that such filters should be private to guard against this possibility, it's perfectly fine with me, but to remain consistent stuff like filters 9 and 11 should also be private unless you can find a difference with respect to whether people can see the code.) -- King of ♠ 06:54, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes, they shoiuld probably be, too.
The prnciple, I believe, is: If the filter is designed to prevent vandalism (as opposed to mistakes, test edits, etc), and isn't self evident hat it does from the name (Filter 342 is an example of one which clearly is), then it should be hidden. 9 and 11 fit these criteria, as does 320. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 14:25, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Skype highlighting

Thanks for this. I will try to remember that trick for the future! Maybe use it to fake timestamps for the archiver, etc. EdJohnston (talk) 21:32, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

A simple thank you

  • Much appreciated your assistance rendered here, I was still wondering when the blocking/reviewing Admin would get back to perform a RevDel there and you came along. Also, I have noted that this is not the only IP address that the perpetrator had used to spread such malicious attack/information, there is another one or two that I'm still trying to locate, but I can't seem to remember where I last saw it. Perhaps you might be of some help? Best. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185♪♫™ 06:47, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
I've found several of these done by the range 218.186.8.224/27 (see here if you have the appropriate gadget set in your preferences. Question is: How far back should this be removed? Keep in mind that:
  1. The farther back it is, the less likely anyone is to notice it. This reduces the reason to hide it.
  2. The farther back it is, the more places will have it from databasse dumps, Wikipedia mirrors, etc. The moment we hide these revisopns, we are telling people that there's something they shouldn't be seeing there. If they have accesas to such a mirror/dump, they will go and peek at it, because we have hidden it.

Jackpot!

  • Hello again, Od Mishehu. Now I remember who this guy is, he is an extremely disruptive vandal (suspected to be the banned user ColourWolf, who has a long history of harassing other Wikipedians, persistent patent nonsense and abuse of editing privileges), seems to be using 218.186.8.248 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (whom you've just blocked for three months) to blank out the "whois templates" on 218.186.8.233 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)'s talk page. Hence, the strong reason to suspect both are actually the same user. Honestly, can we get a range block on this guy? --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 08:20, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
    • My 3 month block is for the range which includes all IP addresses from 218.186.8.224 to 218.186.8.255. My analysis of edits on a bigger range (218.186.8.*) in the User talk: namespace indicates that there's no need for extending the block to a bigger range. Note that the block includes both of the IP addresses you mentioned. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:36, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

It was recommended by another Wiki editor/admin that more sources were added to the Atos Origin page - particularly in reference to its sub divisions Atos Worldline and Atos Consulting - hence there being two seperate, linked pages created. How can you say there is no reason for this page when another editor/admin says there is? The choice to delete seems to be judged on personal opinion and not neutral bias as per the Wikipedia guidelines. If more references were required on the page that could have been sorted rather than just straight away deleting it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheBeaverhousen (talkcontribs) 13:00, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Where can I find this recommaendation? It's not on the article (as an admin, I can see the content of deleted pages), nor on its talk page (there never was one). עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:27, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

im new at this and was wondering why it got deleted it has taken me almost a year to get information on my favorite drummer/composer....there is lots for me to find because of the big history Garey Snider has had in music. please tell me how to get it back or help me fix things on the article..it took so long..thanks very muchMisstad 22:29, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Read the page you linked to, and the shortcuts listed there (WP:FAKEARTICLE, WP:NOT#MYSPACE, and WP:NOTWEBHOST) - it's all there. If you think you can convince userrs to restore it, try at WP:Deletion review. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 06:48, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:43, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Page deleted

Hi,

You deleted this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Arta_Musaraj&action=edit&redlink=1 With the reason of not being important as a person. I understand it, because it was missing the references about her. I would like to upload now a new version with the references which - I hope - will show that she is important enough to be included in Wikipedia.

Unipav (talk) 08:43, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

If you recreate the page, then I promise I won't delete it; however, if it doesn't fit our basic criteria for articles, other admins may delete it. I have the policy of never speedy deleting any page twice myself unless it's an attack page. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:46, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Answer to your offer here. Probably because of this redirect, bots add "Azerbaijan-Bulgaria relations" in Azwiki correspondent to the "Foreign relations of Azerbaijan" in English Wiki. Deleting interwiki does not make sense, sooner or later bots will add it again. If there exist no article about "Azerbaijan-Bulgaria relations" in English Wiki it is not necessary to redirect title to general article about Foreign affairs of Azerbaijan. --Bakuemil (talk) 18:03, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

  1. Removing the interwiki form both pages (note that neither is interwikied to any other page) and making sure that no human user re-adds it is enough to prevent the bots from re-adding it - they don't remember the interwiki, they check it each time.
  2. The fact that a page had been edited in some way against policy is no reason to delete it.
  3. We only speedyu delete pages if they fall into a small set of criteria; this redirect clearly doesn't.

Was I right to put a speedy deletion template on Akintobi? Puffin Lets talk! 10:54, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I think a better course of action would have been to move it to the author's user page (User:Akintobi), and tag the resulting redirect with a {{db-r2}} tag. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:03, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
