Orphaned non-free image File:Abu Dhabi Global Market.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Abu Dhabi Global Market.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Thanks for uploading File:Abu Dhabi Global Market, part of the UAE government.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

Your query[edit]

Hello I'm unsure what the correct method to write to you is. Please bare with me. I work for Abu Dhabi Global Market, and our page keeps getting reverted to very old information. Can you please assist me in understanding why? conflict of interest was mentioned, but we are employees of this government entity and trying to update the content to reflect the current information. I have also emailed to 'permissions-en@wikimedia.org' regarding the use of our company logo, so I hope that will be approved. Any additional assistance you can offer me would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much! I'm not quite sure what you are asking me that isn't already covered at the above linked advice pages, but briefly:
  • You must make a declaration of paid editing - see the links above. You should do this before making any other edits. See WP:PAID.
  • Repeating the other points above, we ask that you:
    • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
    • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
    • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
    • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
    • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
  • You have claimed that the image is public domain. I find this unlikely. The only way to use the logo outside of our non-free constraints would be for the organisation to license it under a compatible free license, without restrictions, even on commercial re-use or derivatives, for use anywhere - not just on wikipedia. As you'll appreciate, most organisations are not willing to do that because of the real possibilities it would open up for use of their brand image in ways of which they would not approve, and against which they would then have no legal recourse. If the image cannot be used under a free license, see WP:Non-free content

    If the organisation did wish to donate under a free license, even with all the concerns I note above, then the authorised copyright holder (not you) would need to follow the procedure at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials precisely. Emails not verifiable as being from the actual copyright owner or not following the procedures laid out there will not be acceptable. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, as should you - there are legal implications both for Wikipedia and for you if copyrights are violated.

  • You may not copy text or images directly from other websites. See WP:Copyright. See my note above about copyright, and donating copyrighted materials - the same thing applies to text as to images, except that, even with permission, we will not publish large verbatim copies of previously published material, for reasons of plagiarism and general good practice - and because this is an encyclopedia, so content written for other publications is rarely of the correct tone and content. Content needs to be written in your own words. The external sources may be used as references but not verbatim sources of text. A few, short, limited direct quotations may be acceptable, in context.
  • You may not edit for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything. You may not feel your content is promotional, but what you have tried to contribute so far is massively promotional, full of marketing-speak and proclaiming the virtues of your organisation. Because you work for them you will find it hard to see this, which is why we ask that you do not edit the article(s) concerning your organisation yourself but instead suggest edits on the article talk page.

I know that seems like a lot to absorb, but you really do need to familiarise yourself with the material I have linked above as editors who do not comply with our WP:PAID and WP:COI policies are often blocked from editing. Thank you. -- Begoon 08:28, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page.
