Party logos on election results

Greetings Nightstallion.

I just noticed your post on Electionworld's talk page. I just wanted to let you know that I'm not going to start an edit war, but it is fairly obvious that common sense has little place on Wikipedia. The next logical step would naturally be to send out warnings to all the users welcoming others by saying "Use NPOV, Don't be a dick and Break all the rules" as saying this or similar must be a gross violation of whatever. But hey, if one's got to shoot oneself in the foot, why not do it properly? I now "really" regret that I spent wasted my time cleaning up that material some time ago, but I'll not make that mistake again. Regards. Valentinian (talk) 22:37, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Lazy-bones: Republicanism in Sweden

Thanks for the reminder (hrmmm...).

Right, as in all state-of-the-art research, where do I start but... Wikipedia of course! (What is the world coming to?)

sv:Republikanism does not say much at all, but here it is:

Unfortunately that particular website is in Swedish only (many, if not most, larger organisations' websites are at least partly bi-lingual now).

I suppose that we could just start up a Republicanism in Sweden article, with that translation, link to it, eg here:

I remember an opinion poll about three years ago which measured support for abolition among members of the Riksdag. Off top of head, it was something like:

  • Left Party 97% of their MPs
  • Social Democrats 80%
  • Green Party 95%

(Social Democrats run a minority govt with Left and Green ad-hoc support)

  • Centre Party 50%
  • Liberals 65%
  • Christian Democrats 30%
  • Moderates 20% (the main opposition party)

Well, starting the article with what you've translated would certainly be a possibility. I'd be interested to hear why, with as much support from various parties (almost all of the government and a substantial part of the opposition), it hasn't been done yet?   • Quiet work is going on trying to improve the coverage of Infoboxes in Novel articles and adding vital information to those Infoboxes. Those that make the most contribution do get noticed!
  • We now have a Collaboration of the Month (see below).
  • Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction) should be looked at. It was adopted recently, but discussion is still going.

  • The Beatles article, the "Flagship" of the Project, is currently under review with regard to its Featured Article status. It is hoped that the review will identify those areas that need some(/lots of) remedial work, and that the Project participants and those editors who are involved in the the FA admin pages to can work together to "save" the status of the article.
    • At the moment there is some discussion as to why it has been listed, and what may be needed to help it retain its FA status. It may well be that some work is going to be required in formulating a plan of action, and then some more in achieving those aims.
    • The FA status is obviously quite important to the Project, and it would be appreciated if participants are able to provide assistance in keeping the article up to standard. The editors would be grateful if those persons receiving this Newsletter could spare some of their time, energy and brainpower in keeping this jewel in our crown in its proper place. Severe Tropical Storm Bilis approaching Taiwan
Severe Tropical Storm Bilis was a damaging tropical storm that caused significant damage to areas of southeastern China, the Philippines and Taiwan. The fourth named storm of the 2006 Pacific typhoon season formed to the east of the Philippines on July 8 and moved towards Taiwan, strengthening as it did so. It reached its peak strength of 110 km/h (70 mph) on July 13, shortly before it made its first landfall on northern Taiwan. Bilis then made a second landfall in Fujian, China on July 14 after officials evaucated over 1 million residents from the areas in the storm's path. The remnant lasted for several days after landfall and brought heavy rain to inland China. The most significant damage occurred in Hunan, where heavy flooding and mudslides destroyed over 31,000 homes and killed 345. Despite never reaching typhoon strength, the storm was responsible for $2.5 billion in damage and at least 625 fatalities in total.

Other tropical cyclone activity

There were 10 other tropical cyclones worldwide in July, with activity in all 4 northern hemisphere basins.

  • In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Beryl made landfall on Nantucket on July 21 before bringing rain to Atlantic Canada.
  • In the East Pacific, Hurricane Bud was a Category 3 hurricane that formed on July 10 and dissipated on July 15.
  • Hurricane Carlotta twice became a minimal hurricane before degenerating into a remnant low on July 16.
  • Hurricane Daniel reached Category 4 strength and was predicted to make landfall in Hawaii before it dissipated on July 26.
  • Tropical Storm Emilia brought tropical storm-force winds to southern Baja California on July 26 and was forecast to become a hurricane but this did not occur.
  • Tropical Storm Fabio formed late on July 31 but did not last long in the face of strong shear.
  • In the West Pacific,Typhoon Ewiniar (Ester) formed on June 29 to the east of the Philippines, it reached Category 4 strength before making landfall in South Korea on July 10 as a tropical storm. It killed at least 36 people.
  • Typhoon Kaemi (Glenda) formed on July 2 and passed over Taiwan before dissipating over mainland China on July 26. It brought heavy rain to Taiwan and the Philippines and killed at least 32 people in China.
  • Typhoon Prapiroon (Henry) formed on July 28 but did not reach tropical storm strength until August.
  • In the North Indian Ocean, Tropical Storm 03B formed on June 30 near the east Indian coast before making landfall on the Orissa coast on July 2.

The following organizations provide helpful information for writing about tropical cyclones, both past and present.

SAp members map

Hello, I see that you changed the map that I uploaded recently. You reverted Macedonia from candidate/SAp to SAp only and Croatia from candidate/SAp to candidate only. I agree that there is some logic behind this, but my original idea was to show that these countries are both SAp and candidates (as opposed to BiH/S/M/A that are SAp only or Turkey/B/R that are candidates only - also I don't wanted to bring too much colors, so that B/R progress in accession process is irrelevant in the image - they are colored just as candidates). I agree, that my bi-coloring skills are not perfect and someone may better fill Croatia and Macedonia, but anyway I think that they should be colored both as SAp and canidate. Agreed? Wikipe-tan

Wikipe-tan is not a self reference in the article fan service. She's a character called Wikipe-tan that is drawn showing some types of cosplay fan service. That is a far cry from saying "this Wikipedia article is...". Just because something is named after Wikipedia does not make it a self reference issue. You're totally missing the point of WP:SELF. -- Ned Scott 09:37, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

No, you are. Wikipe-tan is not at all notable outside Wikipedia, and as such including it/her in articles is a clear violation of WP:SELF. Take it to WP:AN/I if you're unhappy with my interpretation of the rules. —Nightstallion (?) 09:41, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Being notable is not the issue. She's being used as a visual example, such as a pie chart. Are most pie charts notable? Is this pirate notable at all?
Also, from WP:SELF: "Wikipedia can, of course, write about Wikipedia, but context is important. If you read about Shakespeare's works, you are not interested in reading about Wikipedia's policies or conventions. If, however, you read about online communities, the article may well discuss Wikipedia as an example, in a neutral tone, without specifically implying that the article in question is being read on — or is a part of — Wikipedia."
In addition, this is a style guideline meant to address specific concerns. This is not about ignoring the existence of Wikipedia or anything that might have been inspired by Wikipedia. Wikipe-tan doesn't mention the word Wikipedia at all, and only uses Wikipedia as a theme for her hair ties! -- Ned Scott 09:51, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
You're right that original illustrations are not a breach of WP:SELF, of course. Still, you're using a fan-service-mascot of Wikipedia to exemplify fan service, not a neutral image without any special meaning attached to it (as is the case in lolicon). Andean Community

Hi, I noticed your Andean Community edits. I think that Chile should still be listed under observer countries for now, they are officially not yet an associate, even though it is pretty clear that they will become one, following the official invitation and the public response by its government. Also, they should be kept under former full members, because they are not going to re-join as full members, and their early participation as such should be clear. As for Venezuela, it makes sense that it would become an associate member, but it is not really certain or clear from what can be gathered from the Andean Community (see the talk page), partly because the Venezuelan government would have to want to have that status, and Chávez might not be too interested. So, if you can't find a source for that, it would be better to add a sentence explaining the ambiguity. I would imagine that things will get clearer soon, there is a CSN meeting later this year, so one would expect some clarity. Thanks, --Gabbec 13:40, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

North-South divide in the United Kingdom

I've reverted your use of rollback on this article. As far as I am aware, rollback should be used in cases of clear vandalism, which the edits by "The professor" were not. The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.

  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Unilateral page move

User:Centrx had moved the Welsh self-government page, and I had moved it back again, before he had closed the Requested move discussion! I find this totally inexplicable. Firstly, why is he moving a page when the proposal has received zero support (except for a sockpuppet IP); and secondly, why is he moving a page without first closing the discussion? I do not understand why you have moved Welsh nationalism to Welsh self-government after Centrx verified the original title (Welsh nationalism) was more applicable to the article and more common using academic and general sources. Moreover, he has closed the discussion. I'd be grateful if you could let me know your thinking and give some advice on the best way to resolve this, given that Mais oui! will not respond to me directly. Maps

I've recently learnt SVG, and decided to practise map making (which is why I took up SVG) by making SVG versions of your maps from List of European Union member states by political system (so far only Image:EU Member states by head of state.svg and Image:EU Member states by head of state.svg have been uploaded; stupid slow Commons!). I was wondering what you, as original creator of the maps, thought of this, and whether I should change the images in the article (it is featured after all). smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 21:15, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Andres Bonifacio

Thank you for your dilligence. Why do you want diacritics on the name? Is this to enforce the unsubstantiated opinion of the majority of voters who were asked but didn't explain the rationale for diacritics? We don't have diacritics on his name in the Philippines. This is not official. If you have a source or link using his name, at least place then in the links at the bottom of the page. We can put diacritics on the pronounciation guide but not as part of the official name. A lot of Filipinos are upset by anything which represents colonialism. I'm not adamant about it, but if you really insist on changing it, you need to change it *everywhere*, and not just in the title of the article... Re Krais of Russia etc at CfD

I've sent the below to Ezhiki to request information/conformation as to the correct plural forms for "krai" and "oblast" (and "subjekt"); can you concur? :

As for using the non-native plurals, I'd have to disagree. The word "oblast", for example, while comes directly from Russian, can be pluralized as "oblasts". Merriam-Webster (and, by others' accounts, a host of other dictionaries) actually has an entry for this word, and it lists both variants of plural (oblasts and oblasti) as acceptable in English. Surely, "oblasts" sounds more intuitive to native speakers? Plus, it would involve a lot of work to change all instances of "oblasts" to "oblasti", with only a marginal benefit (if any). "Oblast", "krai", and "okrug" are all listed in the English section of my English-Russian-English Oxford dictionary (I don't have other reference handy at the moment, but I can check other dictionaries later), so they must be acceptable in English and subject to English grammar norms as well.

Hi! Mind stopping by a few articles?

Hi! I found you through that Association of Wikipedians With The Really Long Name :P. Anyway, first - cool! You speak a little Romanian! I've been interested in Romania for some time now, including an interest in learning the language (sooo... daaaamn... pretty! Like the lovechild of Italian and Russian and Latin and goodness knows what else! So cool. *weeps for the fact that her community college does not offer Romanian*). :) Though last I checked, a lot of the articles relating to Romania, including the bit on culture, needed some considerable editing. Have you been through them recently? The wording alone needed a LOT of work, I spent a lot of time on one just cleaning up the grammar not too awfully long ago.

Anyway. Ahem. Ostensibly, I figured that with the huge number of interests you have (heh, I'm the same way, especially when it comes to music. Except I'll tolerate some techno. Just not the annoyingly redundant techno. But then, I guess that's more like dance music than actual techno then... or maybe I'm thinking of trance music. Um, anyway), and the ginormous number of edits, there's (hopefully) bound to be something you might not mind doing over at fan fiction, fan fiction terminology, Mary Sue or legal issues with fan fiction. I'm trying to improve the quality of the fan fiction article (off which fan fiction terminology and legal issues with fan fiction ended up being spun due the ginormousness of it) hopefully to where it's at GA and really hopefully to where it's up to FA quality. I'm also really wanting to get Mary Sue up to GA status or better, though it's sort of hard lately to do so. Anyway, I've been basically keeping an eye out for people to ask to come over and edit and I figured you might be one of the ones that would be really good to ask, since you've clearly got about a bajillion tons of experience editing and all to have gotten a couple of articles onto the FA list!

Even if you aren't at all interested in editing any of them, then do you suppose you could tell me any of the things I'm doing wrong with them that I could fix to make them more palatable to the general reader and whatnot? :) I really want to improve them. Their subjects are interesting if only because of what their existence (and nature) says about people and literature.

Apologies not to imagine that either of these flags' templates had a significant edit history. If what you assert is correct, I guess the flags shown at French Southern Territories and Wallis and Futuna need updating or at least further explanation. Perhaps also you might add the source/s for your information re these flags on these templates' talk pages (or, perhaps better, as <noinclude>s on their pages); I can imagine other folk like myself who know no better going to try to update the templates only to find them protected and be left wondering why. I've amended French Southern Territories to show the French tricolour as the official flag and placed the administrator's flag in the Administration section; on moving to Wallis and Futuna, however, it appears the CIA World Factbook has Image:Flag of Wallis and Futuna.svg as the main flag, not the tricolour – or have I misread the page ([6])...?  Regards, David 22:41, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Gediminas

Some while ago, you closed a poll saying "The result of the debate was don't move, because there's a well-written policy which goes against this move, sorry." This action was unusual in itself - an admin taking it on themselves to interpret wiki guidelines against the will of the community. And in fact, Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles) states "Roman Emperors do not need the "of the Roman Empire", nor would Pericles be "of Athens" nor Algirdas "of Lithuania" – their names already indicate where they were from." I don't know if this has since been added; but 6:2 supported the move from the superfluous Gediminas of Lithuania to Gediminas. Sorry about dropping off the face of the world there. I've been taking semi-Wikibreak of sorts--new job and nice weather and all. Anyway, the main reason why I've gotten no further with that reorganisation of the chart is that ADIE has completely ignored my requests for a member list. Typhoon Saomai nearing its landfall in China

Typhoon Saomai (known as Typhoon Juan to PAGASA) claimed at least 441 lives and caused over $1.5 billion in damage. After forming on August 4 near Chuuk, the storm brought heavy rain and strong winds to the Marianas, the Philippines, Taiwan and southeastern China. It started to intensify, and reached its official peak with winds of 95 knots (175 km/h, 110 mph) on August 9. The JTWC reported that it peaked as a Category 5 super typhoon the same day, a strength Chinese forecasters described as the most powerful to hit China in 50 years. Saomai maintained that strength until landfall on August 10 and dissipated inland the next day.

Other tropical cyclone activity

There were 16 other tropical cyclones during August, in the northern Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

  • In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Chris moved to the north of Puerto Rico before dissipating on August 5 near Cuba.
  • Tropical Storm Debby formed near the Cape Verde islands on August 21 but had no effects on land.
  • Hurricane Ernesto formed in the Caribbean on August 24 and affected Haiti and Cuba, before making landfalls in Florida and South Carolina. It killed at least 5 people.
  • In the east Pacific, Tropical Storm Fabio dissipated on August 3 well away from land.
  • Tropical Storm Gilma formed on August 1 and lasted for two days before dissipating.
  • Hurricane Hector reached its peak as a Category 2 hurricane on August 18 well away from land.
  • Hurricane Ileana became the second major hurricane of the east Pacific season when it reached Category 3 intensity on August 23.
  • Hurricane John formed near to Mexico on August 28 and to the northwest near the coast. It prompted a series of warnings from Michoacán to Baja California Sur, where it made landfall in September.
  • Hurricane Kristy was briefly a hurricane on August 31, but its proximity to Hurricane John caused it to weaken soon after.
  • Hurricane Ioke became the most intense Central Pacific hurricane on record on August 26 with a minimum pressure of 920 mbar. After crossing the dateline and becoming Typhoon Ioke it passed just to the north of Wake Island at Category 4 strength.
  • Typhoon Prapiroon (Henry) reached its peak as a minimal typhoon in the South China Sea. It killed 77 people when it made landfall in China.
  • Severe Tropical Storm Maria formed on August 4 and threatened Japanese coast.
  • Severe Tropical Storm Bopha (Inday) passed over Taiwan as a tropical storm on August 9.
  • Tropical Storm Wukong passed over Kyūshū on August 18.
  • Tropical Storm Sonamu (Katring) was a minimal storm that was absorbed by Wukong on August 20.
  • Tropical Depression 13W formed near Hainan on August 23 and soon made landfall in Guandong.

When uploading an image of a tropical cyclone please

  1. Download the highest resolution image possible to your computer, not a thumbnail.
  2. If the image is free, upload it to Commons. In general, only upload to en.wikipedia if it is a Fair Use image. Wherever you upload, follow the instructions.
  3. Preferably, include a link to the source image, not just the source site.
  4. If you upload to Commons, add relevant Categories to the image, see the Commons category scheme. Make sure at least one category you add is the storm's category.

Hello. I've been working on some of the Eurovision Song Contest articles. Another user and I are trying to find a map for the Eurovision Song Contest article. The problem at the moment is that the existing map needs to display more countries. After noticing your modification to the map on the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 article, I thought that you might be able to point me in the right direction for finding a map which includes all of these countries: [8], and is a "a large .png". Possible need for adjudication in roadnames

Hi. This note is a heads up that you might be called to help adjudicate/decide how to apply PI to part 1 of the Highways naming poll. As you know all of us judging admins selected P1, but it turns out that there is a question of applicability. You should read the threads yourself, but my summarization is as follows. Some states are not currently in conformance with P1, and do not want to change if they don't have to. They are saying that P1 only applies in cases where there was controversy, and if the state's road project/key users are with staying put, and if they set up redirects for all the articles so that P1 style searches find the articles, that ought to be enough. (in some cases maybe they'll switch later if they want to)

There seems to be agreement that if a state is in contention about conventions, P1 will be imposed, but disagreement about what "in contention" is. In particular, NJ participants are split about whether they are or are not in contention. I gave them all (arbitrarily, unfairly, etc, etc, because I'm being a bit of a hardass to keep things moving) until about an hour from now to come to consensus voluntarily or else... the or else is that we would canvass, decide, and impose our choice. Right now my read is that it may be less contentious overall to allow modified P1, that is, allow states that don't want to switch, the option not to do so (as long as redirects exist) either "right away" or "ever"... So please get ready to participate, I think we do it as another poll perhaps. I'll seek those of you on IRC out later, but probably we need to do the actual voting on wiki.

As a reminder here's the poll for part 1: Wikipedia:State_route_naming_conventions_poll/Part1 and sure enough it says nothing about what states it applies to (only that two states get an exemption) ++Lar: t/c 20:30, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

"Language skills of European citizens"

At "Language skills of European citizens" Languages of the European Union there seems to be a mistake in the first table: it mentions Russian, not an official language of the EU. What is more, it mentions only 12 out of the 20 official languages of the EU, without explaining why.--Michkalas 14:13, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

That's easily explained -- the first table uses data from a pre-enlargement time, when the EU only had 15 member states; Russian is included because it's an important language, especially in a European context. —Nightstallion (?) 14:36, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Russian is an importan language, no foubt. But the table says is about official languages. Either the table is about most widely spoken languages, so "official should go, or it is about official languages, so russian should go. Most interesting is that the source given (this eurobarometer's page eight) doesn't even list any languages after Russian, and the other values given after Russian don't add up to the percentage of "others" in the eurobarometer... UNMIT

I saw in the news that the UN Security Council has approved a new peacekeeping mission, the Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT), (which I guess will be the successor of Operation Astute). Here’s its Website [9]. No troops have been assigned to it yet. I wanted to let you know since you are the “Commissar-General” of UN peacekeeping articles. State Route Naming admin votes for part 2 needed

This is a note to my fellow admin "judges" at Wikipedia:State_route_naming_conventions_poll/Part2 (barring those who have already commented). Netherlands Antilles updates

Hey, I'm unsure if you are still keeping up with the demise of the Neth. Antilles, but here is some new stuff. Bonaire (and I guess Saba and Statia/Sint Eustatius) are still confused on what it wants with the new 'Kingdom Islands' status. Folks in Bonaire are suggesting anything from a province, a city, to a 'public body'. UPR status is also mentioned. See [10]. There two short articles on how Curacao and Sint Maarten are preparing for status aparte. See this article as Curacao signs a tax treaty with Barbados and this article on how Sint Maarten hopes to gain full control of the cops when status aparte takes effect. Calling it a gerrymander is inaccurate. Joh instituted a system of electoral malapportionment directly favouring rural areas through a 2:1 ratio (which indirectly benefited his party). What he was doing was malapportionment. It was a common Australian trait of the time to call electoral systems that deviated from 'one vote one value' -manders (such as the Playmander) simply because it sounded good. michael talk 12:16, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I saw your post in WP:AN and you seem to have misunderstood the Greek position in the issue of RoM/FYROM. It is definitely not "FYROM". The Greek position is that the country should use some disambiguating element in its title to differentiate itself from the wider region. Proposals by Greece on the issue, among others, were "Slavomacedonia", "New Macedonia", "Vardar Macedonia", "Macedonoslavia" etc. FYROM is not the Greek POV. It is a temporary stop-gap appellation, reached by diplomatic compromise between both the two states. Greece is keeping her part of the deal, and calls the country FYROM for now, but that must not be seen as the 'Greek POV'.

If you are not tired, I would appreciate if we continued this discussion where we started it (here), so that we clear out this once and for all. I won't be happy with 'unilateral' solutions, as I think they are very temporary. •NikoSilver• 12:20, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough on both accounts, though I still do not see where the problems lies with "Macedonia" (compare Luxembourg, Azerbaijan, and many other examples of dual-use names)... —Nightstallion (?) 12:26, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
The usual practice is using a disambiguating element, like York->New York etc, which I posted in that talk (100s of examples available). Fmore, in this case, there are other problems too:
  • Irredentist agenda based on the United Macedonia concept.
  • Unofficial indirect endorsement of this agenda in schoolbooks and govt publications (see that claim sourced in Macedonia (terminology)
  • Historical and cultural significance of the name for the Greeks (start of what was known as the Hellenic Empire)
However, this discussion is off-topic as we are not diplomats to prescribe. We just describe. So the accurate description for the template is FYROM, which is the compromise name, which is used by the otherwise self-id-ing RoM for EU purposes, and which EU itself uses for the country. As it appears, EU will never use RoM for the country, not even in the future, as Greece will definitely veto (see here). •NikoSilver• 12:44, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
I still stand by the current compromise, which includes the self-identifying, most common and in-use-on-Wikipedia name (RoM) as well as the name which the European Union uses (FYROM). That's as far as my ability to compromise goes. —Nightstallion (?) 12:50, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Ico soundtrack listing

Talk page abuse

Please have a look at this:

I believe that this is a crystal clear abuse of WP:TPG, WP:SPAM and, indirectly WP:NPA. The fact that it is being made by a blatant and exposed sockpuppet just makes the situation even worse. It is my belief that that sockpuppet account should have been banned after exposure, under Wikipedia policies. Why wasn't it?

Please look at the contributions of Orkadian (talk · contribs). Mallimak (talk · contribs) has used that account to post the identical spam at Talk:Shetland Islands and Category talk:Orcadian Wikipedians.

I raised this at Talk page abuse|WP:ANI#Talk_page_abuse, but was just subjected to totally unfounded snidey remarks. I demand that Administrators take a far more adult, and informed, approach to this situation. Please look into this case, because I feel that this idiot is making a fool out of the whole project. --Mais oui! 02:42, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Hallo. I think that logo #A 7 and #C 1-4 shouldn't be considered because they are too similar to Walt Disney Pictures logo. It seems that letter "W" is used from some Walt Disney font or taken from a picture of that logo. It's only little rotated to the left and a small part of the right side is cutted. colour template

hi Nightstallion, how are you?

I noticed that for the tables of the Austrian parties Template:Austrian legislative election, 2006, logos are unfortunately not allowed anymore. We should at least have the colours in in that case, like Template:United Kingdom parliamentary election, 2005 for example, however I still don't understand how to do it, could you help out or do you know anyone? thanks alot. This is the monthly newsletter of WikiProject Tropical Cyclones. The Hurricane Herald aims to give a summary, both of the activities of the WikiProject and global tropical cyclone activity. Hurricane Ioke is the most intense hurricane on record in the Central Pacific. After forming on August 19 to the south of Hawaii, Ioke moved to the northwest and hit Johnston Atoll as a Category 2 hurricane. It strengthened further as it moved to the west, reaching Category 5 strength on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale three times, twice in the Central Pacific and once in the Western Pacific. After the storm entered the Western Pacific it directly hit Wake Island. The storm finally became extratropical on September 7 but its extratropical remnants affected Alaska. Overall damage from Hurricane Ioke was light.

Other tropical cyclone activity

  • 4 hurricanes formed in the Atlantic: Hurricane Florence, Hurricane Gordon, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Isaac. Florence affected Bermuda and Newfoundland, and Gordon had effects in the Azores and Europe. Isaac is currently forecast to affect Newfoundland as an extratropical storm.
  • The east Pacific saw three hurricanes and a tropical storm develop. Hurricane John and Hurricane Lane were both major hurricanes which hit Mexico, whilst Hurricane Kristy and Tropical Storm Miriam stayed clear of land. In addition, two tropical depressions formed in the Central Pacific.
  • There were 4 typhoons in west Pacific during September. Typhoon Shanshan, Typhoon Yagi and Typhoon Xangsane formed in the west Pacific and Typhoon Ioke entered the basin from the east. Shanshan killed at least 9 people in Japan and Typhoon Xangsane, which is still active, killed at least 72 in the Philippines.
  • Two tropical cyclones formed in the North Indian Ocean during September. Severe Cyclonic Storm Mukda formed in the Arabian Sea but did not affect land and Tropical Cyclone 05B formed in the Bay of Bengal before making landfall in India. However, the deadliest tropical system of September was a depression in the Bay of Bengal that killed more than 170 people in Bangladesh.

The September member of the month is Thegreatdr, David Roth. David Roth is a meteorologist at the wpc, who as part of his work there is producing Tropical Cyclone Rainfall Data. Dozens of the maps he has created are used in Wikipedia articles. He has produced a number of valuable articles to the project such as tropical cyclone rainfall climatology and Atlantic hurricane reanalysis, and significantly expanded several seasonal articles such as 1982 Pacific hurricane season.
