I agrea with you NSLE that I high edit count does not mean that you should be an admin, A person's policy does. I have a policy of following wikipedia policy and also what the majority wants. If you think I don't know the policy because of 1st or/and 2nd RFA you should realise the number of days I had edited wikipedia before them and that I was new to wikipedia. I probably know the policies that you would feal I do not know as your reasoning for me not knowing it seams to be just the RFA's and probably edits ages ago. Thanks for your vote. I hope that I can convince you that I do know the policy and that I would make a good admin.

Article deletion (2005AHS records)

Erm, there was an older version of List of records broken by the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season you could have reverted to, which did have an encyclopedic tone (though hadn't been all verified yet). The person who posted that list on Wikipedia is the same person that authored the wunderground blog post, so it wasn't a copyvio anyway. (I could send you his e-mails if you wish.) I was going to work on the article on verify everything. Could you restore the article and revert it instead of delete it? --AySz88^-^ 18:39, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. How much time do I have? I can't do much tonight, but I'll probably be able to do something within a few days. --AySz88^-^ 03:04, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fellow NationStates User

I think we have run into each other somewhere (maybe an election page or AfD or something?) -- I do vaguely recall it. But, hey, nice to see you, and I hope our paths cross again!

Also, in all honesty, I was wondering if anyone was clicking that link I added to my signature, but I guess I've found someone that does!

3RR

I missed User:Jonathunder's fourth reversion—could you point out his three-revert violation to me? Also, could I remind you to please check the block log before you block a user? By blocking him for a shorter length of time you cancelled out my longer block. — Knowledge Seeker 06:41, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, as Jonathunder only made three edits to that page today, he clearly not have violated 3RR. Yet given the rapid pace at which User:Darwiner111/User:PatrickA has been reverting with IP addresses, and now resorting to user page vandalism, it is easy to lose track of the details; it's quite understandable. I was hoping to dissuade him with increasing blocks, but now it looks as though he's headed for an indefinite block. It's a shame. Thanks for undoing the block; I appreciate it! — Knowledge Seeker 07:09, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That edit was made on January 25th, a couple days ago, and would not be counted as part of a three-revert violation. — Knowledge Seeker 07:09, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe—don't worry, it's been an interesting night. I blocked User:PatrickA's two sockpuppet accounts indefinitely (I knew about one before but had left it alone for the most part since he was only mildly disbehaving), and increased his block further. I'm still hoping he'll reconsider his approach to Wikipedia. — Knowledge Seeker 07:53, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template: Infobox typhoon season nopic

I know you said it didn't exist, but I tried making one for Western Pacific typhoon articles. Is there a problem between this and what I wrote before you removed it. True, fatalities are hard to estimate, but using information from the article, a total couldn't hurt. If at all possible, could you help make a proper infobox for one year if you had the time? If not, it's no biggie. Hurricanehink 01:26, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What?

How was my post on Jdorje's talk page incivil? I was just politly asking him not to be so condescending towards other people, which I percieved him to be doing. That's no more wrong than you falsely accusing me of making personal attacks. -- §HurricaneERIC§ archive 22:40, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I honestly don't see anything wrong with that message. You can clearly tell that I was offended by his behavior in that particualar instance, but I don't feel that I was insulting in any way, nor was I trying to be. IMO, I was no more curt than you were with me and Jdorje didn't seem to take offense to it. Could you maybe point out a particular line that you felt was offensive? -- §HurricaneERIC§ archive 00:47, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Surly you don't expect a pissed-off person to be cheery? I approached him in a civil manner. My attitude was "Hey man, what's up with this?" Wait, I see, you think I took the angry-father approach don't you? I do that sometimes. I guess that message could have possibly been percieved as a reprimand, but that's a bit of a stretch. I want my opinions taken seriously and not just shrugged off (which they have been multiple times in the past). When that happens, I get quite irked. So I go to lengths to ensure that my grievances are heard and not ignored. Sometimes I go a little too far. And while I don't think this is the case for this instance, that's something you should know about me. It's something I have and will continue to watch. I'm human NSLE; I do make mistakes, I do overreact occationally, I do get emotional. But I rarely, willfully put people down, that's just not me. I have suffered verbal abuse throughout my life and despise the idea of inflicting it on someone else. I have done it before, regrettably. Only once on Wikipedia though. It was in an altercation with another user whose behavior angered me to the point of intense blind rage. I will not elaborate on that further because it isn't that important and it brings back too many bad memories and old rage long since archived into oblivion. I hope that these controvertial (or misunderstood) posts won't continue to hamper my quest for adminship. I try to be a good person, it's just that some things simply don't come out right (sigh). Here I am getting emotional again. Sorry for the speech. By the way, I believe Jdorje and I are on an even keel know. -- §HurricaneERIC§ archive 01:33, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

Hi NSLE/Archive 5, thanks for participating in my RfA discussion. If you voted in support of my request, thank you! If you decided to oppose me at this time, then I hope that if I do choose to reapply in the future, the effort I will make in the meantime to improve and expand my contributions to Wikipedia may persuade you to reconsider your position. Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:24, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

avoid self-references (2005 AHS)

While it does "feel" wrong to cite another article as a reference, I don't see how this fits under WP:ASR. Also, as I think about it, I don't see that it's any different than adding text "(see here)" to the infobox. Making the link "look" like a reference is probably bad, but having a "see here" link looks unprofessional. So what *should* be done here? — jdorje (talk) 03:47, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reading through the self-reference guidelines, they apply to references to wikipedia articles as "wikipedia" or to links from the article namespace into the wikipedia namespace. — jdorje (talk) 03:49, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

T-Man ban

I want to state that I think a six-month ban of T-Man is highly excessive, and further it is beyond the jurisdiction of this body at this time. His current one-month ban should be left, after which he is of course subject to scrutiny, and I hope would not conduct further personal attacks. A six-month ban all at once is unfair. I thought this was MY arbitration (see my name in the title: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Dyslexic Agnostic/Proposed decision?) It would be procedurally unfair to ban T-man without him having the opportunity to defend himself; he didn't know he faced sanction at all in these proceedings! His comments were dedicated to showing why I should be banned or restricted. I think it is very important that this ban NOT be put in place, since T-man is entitled to make answer and defence. Dyslexic agnostic 01:50, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but a 6-month ban is proposed 9and 4 in favour), and T-Man has not even had his own issues arbitrated. There is an issue of procedural fairness at stake. Can someone be banned without being given notice of proceedings against them? This would be manifestly unfair, even though T-man and I have clashed, I would not wish this on anyone. Dyslexic agnostic 02:32, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Newbies

It's pretty much the same thing I said to SCZenz here, although you know that you have my utmost respect in any case.

  1. If there was another place I could go to get support, i'd definately go there first.(I can't think of any, but if you can, please let me know so I can go there)
  2. Why is our political system so toxic in the first place? I want to fix that, and hopefully some new blood may change that.
  3. Currently my rate of success is around 2-3 percent. I don't bug the rest if they're not interested afterwards.
  4. My goal is how many people rather sign it rather than who signs it -- one of my biggest problems with Wikipedia is its "psuedo-nobility"(I try to consider everyone's opinions on their merit, not who they are), and the system as it is currently is fairly stultified and one sided(I doubt that I can get a fair break while sticking to the current thinking around here.)

I don't know, please let me know if you disagree with the above. Ultimately, i'm hoping that reform can come from within Wikipedia, but at this point, I don't need to go down that route if it isn't an effective method. Karmafist 03:17, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You've Convinced Me

I'll give it a few weeks, my friend. I disagree with the whole "Wikipedia isn't a battleground" thing(I mean, look at a few recent rfcs and rfars), but I know you have my well being in mind when you say that. However, if I can't get any traction after a few weeks of the established community, i'll have to go back to doing that.(I doubt i'll bother with the e-mail list, they're just a bunch of cabal trolls it seems). Karmafist 06:14, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good of The Project

Well, I don't get that part(I respect newbies, since they're often intelligent people in the real world, and they overwhelmingly just ignore the petition so far), but I respect you and all the help you've given me, and that(with you and others) is the driving force behind that manifesto for me anyway, so I might as well give it a rest for awhile to see what happens. I can still do normal welcomes in the interim. Karmafist 06:26, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
