Hi, I noticed the IP activity on this article and I've semiprotected it since I see that there are the same problems on fr.wikipedia. I don't know if this user will be willing to discuss their changes, but I guess noting your differences on the talk page can't hurt for future reference :). I am not familiar enough with the subject to do more besides knowing it as a problematic page. -- Luk talk 10:29, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mark,

Not sure if you are the person who deleted my contributions to the Monica Sone page, but I spent hours correcting the style and verifying all references and those in Critical Studies. Please do not undo.

I also corrected proper noun usage such as Nissei and Issei. Thx. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drsq (talkcontribs) 17:54, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Claimed UW titles[edit]

Hi Myasuda, keep me informed. If the edit war continues, I would consider asking for temporary semi-protect status for the UW football article as the anonymous editor seems unwilling to engage in discussion or abide by what was seemingly a consensus decision. I have no real dog in this fight, but I think it is pretty clear that although UW lists '84 and '90 as having been selected in its media guide out of a matter of comprehensiveness, as an institution, it does not claim them per the discussion on the National Championship article talk page. Steiner-Lehmus Theorem[edit]

I have added some comments to the discussion board in regards to your deletion of my reference to a 'direct proof'. Please take a moment to look over them and take the appropriate actions. I appreciate a lively debate and will consider any retort to the comments I've made. Yet I think you should reconsider your deletion in the context of this merely being a reference in an article to allow the reader an opportunity to judge for themself. WikiProject Science pearls[edit]

Myasuda, I see that you have contributed a lot to the List of important publications in mathematics. A few of us, including LadyofShalott, are interested in broadening the scope of WikiProject Science pearls and making it into something like WikiProject Academic bibliographies. Would you like to join us? Please reply at User talk:RockMagnetist#Invitations.

I appreciate the invitation, and I support the idea of broadening the scope of Wikipedia:WikiProject Science pearls. But I generally don't involve myself directly in projects, and tend to stay focused on improving articles that I am knowledgeable about. I will monitor the project, however, and if I feel that I can help out I'll certainly offer my two cents. Thanks for the heads-up. — Myasuda (talk) 02:38, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see you are a programmer[edit]

I am using a Mac and I have only just discovered its operating system is UNIX based. I did some programming in PERL and AWK 10 years ago or more. Can you save me some time by suggesting how I could quickly start programming on the Mac? In particular, what can I do without running under LINUX or buying more products. OK, I am up for some reasonable expenditure... --Greenmaven (talk) 02:32, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dr James Naismith[edit]

I do not have the skills to edit Wikipedia articles but have noticed that you have posted on the bio of Dr. James Naismith. On his bio it has his name listed as Dr. James A. Naismith. He never did have the middle initial “A” as attested to by several of the Naismith clan – including one of his daughter's now passed away - who this writer had talked to in the past. Theory is that it was a clerical error in a publication and the good Dr. Naismith never went about in correcting it. I have had the factual error corrected in countless publications and other encyclopedias over the last 25 years. The Basketball Hall of Fame also agrees with the historical importance and that he did not or ever adopt the middle initial A. at anytime. Britannica said they will be changing the info also. Problem is when I change it on Wikipedia it keeps going back to original mistake.

Thank you for your assistance.[edit]

Greetings, Along with various colleagues I've been researching the Bonneville landslide for more than 25 years. When I stumbled upon the Wikipedia link today, I realized I had to edit it to bring it up to date with current thinking. I registered as a contributor and went to work. As a newby I made some serious goofs. I see that you helped me clean it up, and I just wanted to express my thanks for that. Next time I'll spend more time going through the FAQs and help files in advance so I don't make so much work for you. Thanks again for your assistance. I noticed you deleted the post to the NBA post-season records for comebacks. Here is a link to where the information came from: http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/category/_/name/espn-stats-info, on the page you will see a listing of the previous records. Also on the NBA recap of the celtics/lakers game in 2008 it states the Celtics set the record.

Dear Myasuda, Fermat claimed to have the proof of FLT, but the mathematicians say that he lied because nobody found the elementary demonstration. These papers prove that the assertion of Pierre de Fermat is credible, because the steps are simple and known at his time. In fact, there are present only the decompositions in factors. Let dream the supporters of Fermat reading these papers. These papers have been under review 5 years by David Goss of JNT and because the referee did not lie mistakes, Goss said to have not other referees. Now the papers have been cheked many times by many revisors, therefore published. Please replace the links.

I saw you rearranged Alley-oop (basketball) due to the 5x120px-wide multiple image template. I have rearranged the width so that it is 3x160px-wide. If you want you can shrink the 3 wide down to 3x125. However, I think it is undeniable that the multiple images are more instructive than any single image could be. Let me know if you have other issues with the template.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 05:43, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

actors by ethnicity[edit]

Thanks for your cogent comment on the size of the category of japanese american actors, which is one of the arguments i used for creating the category for american actors of chinese descent (to break up that huge category of american actors a bit). I fear that our logic will be overwhelmed by numbers, as there seems to be a committed effort to remove all trivial intersections, without considering what makes an intersection trivial or not. if its 2 things, its suspect, and if its 3, its bad. I understand if its a truly trivial intersection, but these are not.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 02:14, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

NBA season assists leaders[edit]

I'm glad that you enjoy the improvements to the NBA season assists leaders list. However, by the same token, Elgin Baylor's 1961-62 season does not qualify for the List of National Basketball Association top individual scoring season averages because the NBA requires a minimum of 70 games played. You can see this in the record book section of any edition of the Official NBA Guide. The top five are as follows:

  • Highest average, points per game, season [minimum: 70 games]
    • 50.4 - Wilt Chamberlain, Philadelphia, 1961-62 (4,029/80)
    • 44.8 - Wilt Chamberlain, San Francisco, 1962-63 (3,586/80)
    • 38.4 - Wilt Chamberlain, Philadelphia, 1960-61 (3,033/79)
    • 37.6 - Wilt Chamberlain, Philadelphia, 1959-60 (2,707/72)
    • 37.1 - Michael Jordan, Chicago, 1986-87 (3,041/82)

What you compiled for that list falls under original research. The List of National Basketball Association top rookie rebounding averages is also original research, and technically Bill Russell's season does not qualify for the list.Hoops gza (talk) 20:15, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page appearance: Bill Russell[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Bill Russell know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on February 12, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/February 12, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Bill Russell

Bill Russell (born 1934) is a retired American professional basketball player, widely considered one of the best in National Basketball Association (NBA) history. Playing center for the Boston Celtics, he was the centerpiece of their dynasty and his shot-blocking and man-to-man defense were major reasons for the team's success. A five-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a twelve-time All-Star, he won 11 NBA championships during his 13-year career, and jointly holds the record for the most championships won by an athlete in a North American sports league. He led the NBA in rebounds four times, and remains second all-time in both total rebounds and rebounds per game. Russell was the first African American player to achieve superstar status in the NBA and the first African American NBA coach. For his accomplishments in the Civil Rights Movement on and off the court, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. Russell is a member of three basketball Halls of Fame (Naismith Memorial, National Collegiate, and FIBA) and the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award is named in his honor. He also won a 1956 Olympics gold medal as captain of the U.S. national basketball team. (Full article...)

Al Cervi and the 1947 NBL MVP[edit]

Good afternoon,

I see that on 12 May 2007 you edited Al Cervi's page to include that he was the MVP of the NBL for the 1947 season, while every other source I can find gives Bob Davies as the award winner that year. I recognize this was long ago, but I believe you were using the Hall of Fame website, which according to the wayback machine did list Al Cervi as the 1947 MVP but also Bob Davies:

http://web.archive.org/web/20070509043742/http://www.hoophall.com/halloffamers/bhof-bob-davies.html

I also found a book that lists only Bob Davies as 1947 MVP:

Field Goal (Basketball) - personal experience[edit]

I am a new Wikipedia contributor, and I would like to receive guidance on a change I made to the Field Goal (Basketball) page. For a long time I've been confused about the term Field Goal in basketball, and I suspect that it is commonly confused with a 3-pt shot, due to the meaning of a field goal in American football. After adding this comment to the Field Goal (Basketball) page, it was removed by Myasuda.
