February 2023[edit]

Information icon Hi Mrlong78! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of an article several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. - wolf 01:02, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

USS Blue Ridge[edit]

We typically don't add names of non-notable crew to ship articles (not that the incident isn't worthy of inclusion, but this ensign is not notable on his own). You keep re-adding his name, though other editors have reverted you. Can you explain why it's important to you that this person be named in the article? - wolf 01:17, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Thewolfchild I added the information after Ensign Long passed away last Friday. His name is mentioned in the Naval History of the USS Blue Ridge. His pickup by a Russian ship during the cold war caused an internal incident with USA and Russia. My edit was systematically deleted without discussion even though he was interviewed by several papers and was interviewed by Walter Cronkite after the incident and he returned home. Hi, a few things: first, after you added the name, it was removed, but you kept trying to re-add it. Per WP:BRD, once your edit is reverted, you should go to the talk page and discuss it. Otherwise, if people just keep reverting each other, it becomes disruptive. Second, since you are the one seeking to add content, the WP:ONUS is on you to seek consensus on the talk page in support of it. But as I said, we generally don't add names of non-notable crew to ship articles. I understand the incident was notable, but unless a crew member is WP:notable enough to have thier own article, they aren't mentioned by name. Third, and last, I noticed your username is the same as that of the sailor, is there a relationship? If so, then you should familiarize yourself with our conflict of interest guidelines.
I realize it may seem like we have a lot rules, but as the project has grown, they have become increasingly necessary for stability. - wolf 03:08, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
