An odd template

Hey, MrScorch, someone pointed out User talk:Always Learning to me, which has an odd template on it that you placed. It was placed on July 27th, but I had actually carried out a courtesy vanish for this user four days before, and they don't have any edits that weren't moved, so I don't even know what edit it could be in reference to, much less why it was necessary to warn them. Do you know what the deal with it is? If it was just a mistake, that's cool; I'll probably re-delete the page, as this user is trying to make a clean break from Wikipedia, and I'd like to help them tie up any loose ends. Thanks, Writ Keeper  19:56, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

I believe that was in reference to talk page posts that they made on another user's talk page, which were in (if I remember correctly) Spanish Portuguese. I'll shuffle through my edit history and try to determine whose talk page it was. It's also possible I left it on the wrong user's talk page. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 20:14, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
@Writ Keeper: It was on User talk:Gringoladomenega, and the user's vanish ID is user:Vanished user 201913 (just to show that they edited that page). Look back into the history of that page and you'll see that they edited there all throughout the previous months, and some posts (at lest the most recent) should be in Portuguese which weren't (again, if I remember correctly) accompanied by an English translation. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 20:25, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Additional info: The edit in question is under the heading here. They also made other Portuguese edits to other talk pages such as on this user's TP. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 22:45, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your message

Thanks MrScorch6200. As you have noted I am trying to resolve it with my post on the talk page. The other editor has, as yet, not felt the need to take part. Sadly, this editor has made the same kind of edit as Barbara Osgood (talk · contribs) and Barbara Oswold (talk · contribs) a little less than two years ago. We will see if your note changes anything. Thanks again for your time and efforts MarnetteD|Talk 21:20, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

I tried to leave this message on my talk page under your message but when I hit preview I got the entire documentation for the template you used and I didn't want to take up my talk page with that. My understanding of Wikiprogramming is slim so it is probably something easy to fix I'm just not sure how to do it. Cheers MarnetteD|Talk 21:20, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
You are welcome! I also left a uniform notice on their talk page to ensure that they get the message. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 21:32, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing things on my talk page. It looks like you left MP's message on their user page rather than their talk page. I would move it but, considering the situation, they might take that badly. So I'll let you fix things there as well. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 21:55, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out! I just fixed it. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 21:58, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Regarding shouting

I have come up with an elegant solution to shouting. (read the source)

You simply wrap it in a span like so: <span style="text-transform:lowercase;">FORGOT PASSWORD</span>

It comes out like this: FORGOT PASSWORD

I don't know if mainspace templates exist for this but there should be. Chillum 23:54, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

@Chillum: We need a template... it can get tiring when you always have editors who ALWAYS SHOUT and don't STOP SHOUTING even when you point them to WP:SHOUT and they disregard it. With a template we can just tell the user the MediaWiki software now changes all CAPITALS to lowercase automatically (while we add the template Speedy Gonzalez fast) . Plus, we can get away with that because most users who shout are newbies. You should recreate that template - I'd use it! MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 05:13, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
This text has been lowercased. Expand to view original.

I WAS BOLD SO I ADDED SOME FEATURES TO IT, WROTE SOME DOCUMENTATION AND THEN I PUT IT INTO THE TEMPLATE SPACE. IT IS MEANT TO BE PUT AROUND HUGE BLOCKS OF TEXT.

I MODIFIED IT SO THAT IF SOMEONE WANTS TO VIEW THE ORIGINAL THEY CAN.

IT IS ALSO SETUP IN A WAY THAT YOU DO NOT NEED TO EDIT THE OTHER EDITORS COMMENTS. FULL INSTRUCTIONS ARE ON THE TEMPLATE PAGE: Template:Dontshout.

THEY ONLY PROBLEM I CAN SEE IS THAT IT CAN BREAK LINKS LIKE User:MrScorch6200.

CORRECTION, IT ONLY MODIFIES THE TEXT AND NOT THE MARKUP, SO NO PROBLEM THERE. Chillum 18:23, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

For smaller blocks of inline test like "I think the moon IS A THE HOME OF THE INSANE LIZARD PEOPLE and must be stopped" then the <span style="text-transform:lowercase;">...</span> is easier to use: "I think the moon IS A THE HOME OF THE INSANE LIZARD PEOPLE and must be stopped" Chillum 18:33, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

A great template! Maybe you should have your own BBC article. And no, David Icke says that Reptilians live on (rather, in) Earth! MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 18:46, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Lol, you must be the type of person who believes everything he hears. The idea of lizard people on the Earth is a whacky conspiracy theory. Everyone knows that the mind control rays need a great distance to focus and that they are stationed on the moon. That is why we stopped going there, focused mind control beams.

The whole rumor about lizard people on Earth is propaganda to make it seem dubious to the masses. They make sure to only include the term reptiles rather than lizard so that the other reptilian species do not know it is the lizard people doing it. Chillum 19:10, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Hahaha, while I don't believe David Icke, I am quite the conspiracy theorist. And I don't believe in every conspiracy theory like Dale Gribble. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 19:32, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
@Chillum: I just put your template into action over at Talk:Barlas. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 20:43, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Glad it is being put to good use. I think the community will accept and embrace this tool. Though you never know what people are going to object to. I am still waiting for a wall of CAPS LOCK text to appear on ANI so that I can show everyone how handy it is. Chillum 20:49, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Now I just need to figure out how to turn a giant block of text without paragraphs into a series of paragraphs... Unfortunately I am limited to CSS, not JS. I could modify the site JS but that would require a huge debate. Chillum 20:55, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

You're a Jscript programmer? I know C++ and a lot of HTML5. I've worked with JS but prefer C/C++. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 21:01, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Barlas Debate

Can you bring the Barlas debate to a resolution? And if you want more reasoning and I can provide it --Nawabmalhi (talk) 14:31, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

@Nawabmalhi: I'll probably take the case if it's ready for DRN but I need to wait for your argument there first. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 18:10, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

It may be a little redundant but I have added alot more more information So do read it. --Thank You, Nawabmalhi (talk) 23:55, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Help please on Historicity of Jesus Debate

Hi, I'm new, and unsure of how this works. In my request for moderation of this issue I only gave the user IDs of the haters. I did not include those that have actually been rather nice. How do I address that and get them involved? After comments are received is there a place or process for rebuttal or further open discussion with you? I had hoped to have other third party uninvolved editors provide feedback before going this route, but some editors are very revert-happy and did not wait for that process to play itself out. Also, there is this constant referral to BRD. I've looked it up. Its not a policy -just an essay. How does that get put into context? It is my opinion that groups of non-dispassionate parties, internal to the debate, can not resolve this with discussion. Is there an option to bring people experienced in social science research and sourcing standards and practices into the discussion, from outside of the topic? cheers --IseeEwe (talk) 22:21, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

If I've somehow got the ass end of this, and am being blind to the proper process and resolution, just let me know straight up. thanks --IseeEwe (talk) 22:23, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

@IseeEwe: Just give me all the names and I'll add them to the list. We need all the users involved so we can come to a clear consensus on what should happen. Right after everyone lists their opening statement we'll discuss the issue under the heading, "Historicity of Jesus discussion". We'll talk about which policies apply and the ones that don't. Also, I don't believe anyone at DRN has a social sciences background, but we are always able to help. If you need anything else or if you want me to elaborate, just ask. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 00:55, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. I appreciate your calm rational approach. I have deep concerns about resolution. The basic issue is authority. The original article, a long history of editors, and most new commentators insist that the article must incorporate broad scholarly opinions, which are diverse, and accept a neutral stance. A small set of current editors defend an exceedingly narrow definition of authorised ("reliable"?) sources, encompassing solely the group of scholars cited. These editors press their version of "consensus" -read "who shouts the loudest"- without striving to actually create consensus. There are hundreds of critical comments, followed by vicious reactionary attacks, going back years. Every couple of weeks someone tries to make a change and then the same half dozen users attack them (Smeat75, Martijn Meijering, Rbreen, Huon, Ian.thomson, Bill the Cat 7). Here is a short list of neutral or rational commentators going back into the last few months that you can invite to provide opinions; Alatari, Fearofreprisal, Wdford, Tgeorgescu, Blackthorne2k, John Carter, Wickorama, Woerkilt, Themoother, Sparkveela, Lyingforjebus, BaSH PR0MPT, Edit Centric, Spirit469, Saddhiyama

--IseeEwe (talk) 02:20, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

I fear the discussion is becoming rancorous. It is the same pattern as far back as I looked, about 6 months. I am putting a stake deep into the ground on this matter. But I see that any suggested changes are just automatically rejected, even when the topic is in moderation, with spurious reflexive citation of whatever policy or pseudo policy comes to hand. I am very confused by this dispute resolution process. Many previous editors have suggested that another article be created or the material pushed into other current articles. Some keen eyed critics have noted in the past that this little group have spread their fearsome editorial position into those articles as well. Is there no recourse to higher level intervention? This feels to me like that situation with the Congressional IP address that was banned. I truly feel that this matter extends beyond this article into the realm of intentional collaborative manipulation of the editorial process. Regardless of any changes in the content I would like to see, this is a very sad situation, with systematic attacks, demeaning language and dismissive behaviours. It is a highly dysfunctional group and it has driven away many really interesting contributors. Unfortunately it has also substantially lowered the quality of this and the other inter-related articles. --IseeEwe (talk) 03:14, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
I believe that a dispute this large and complex may require the Mediation Committee. DRN usually deals with smaller disputes that can be resolved in a few days. You should consider going there instead. And again, sorry for any confusion. Also, I feel that this dispute will require talk about conduct, and DRN absolutely doesn't (and can't) handle user conduct. I'm going to close your request for DRN and direct you to the Mediation Committee. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 06:25, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for your attention and recommendations. You should not apologise. This is a strangely complex matter, that I am not equipped to manage with my limited knowledge of WP policy. I appreciate your time and input. Is there something I need to do at this point in regard to the escalation? Do I go to the Mediation Committee and ANI myself, or have you done this automatically? How do I reference your recommendation and the various inputs already received? --IseeEwe (talk) 20:45, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
You'll have to go to those places yourself. Go to this page to request the Mediation Committee's help. Let Medcom know you've attempted DRN but it basically failed due to this issues's complexity and conduct issues. The admins at ANI will also help with conduct issues. I'm sure the members of Medcom will take a look at the DRN request themselves, and they should be able to help. If you need anything else, just ask and I wish you good luck in resolving this, MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 23:23, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Not communicating in English

Despite previously being warned, it appears MYS77 and IP 84.90.219.128 insist on flouting the WP:COFAQ#LANGUAGE and WP:SPEAKENGLISH guidelines and continue to communicate in other languages. Panhead2014 (talk) 02:21, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I left them both another warning and if I see it after that I'm going to WP:ANI. It's disruptive and obviously against those guidelines. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 06:53, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
  • I will cease doing that, apologies "offered". I have longsince left WP as an editor after a run-in with the user that delivered this message to you, only stopped by to greet MYS77 and see how things were doing for him, wikiwise and personally. He does not speak English very well so i thought i'd write in our mothertongue, but i'll provide a translation of my message to him should anyone require so.

I repeat, won't happen again. Sorry for any inconvenience --84.90.219.128 (talk) 14:35, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for the "inconvenience", I'll write EVERYTHING in English from now on. MYS77 15:01, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Actually, those guidelines you quote don't include user talk pages. COFAQ is intended for article space (where writing in English is of course important), and the talk page guidelines, where SPEAKENGLISH redirects, specifically exclude user talk pages: These guidelines apply specifically to discussion pages which are used for collaboration, which includes just about all talk pages other than user talk pages (emphasis mine). A personal conversation between two users on one of their user talk pages, in a language both users understand, is certainly not disruptive, and not even against the guidelines. Writ Keeper  16:14, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
@Writ Keeper: I have no idea if it is a "personal" conversation. For all I know, they could be speaking about problematic edits to an article or other things like that. Then, that kind of thing ends up at ANI or DRN and we have no idea what they were actually talking about. I also personally consider it unhelpful as virtually every other editor doesn't know what they are saying and can't contribute to the conversation if needed. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 23:37, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

My apologies in Mr.Panhead's page were summarily removed with the summary "Don't wish to be bothered by this person". If you again come into contact with this user, please tell him if he does not wish so, then please stop talking about me/reporting me behind my back. Attentively --84.90.219.128 (talk) 21:25, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Panhead, case closed. Kindly leave these folks alone. If you wish to report anything concerning them and it's not some immediate matter requiring ANI, please report to The Proper Page For All Complaints. Thank you. MrScorch, your efforts are appreciated, but please make sure that any actual guidelines are violated before warning other editors. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 21:50, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Drmies, with all due respect, if I wish to consult and bring to the attention of an admin what I believe to be violations of WP guidelines, then I will do just that. I did not request your input in this for obvious reasons. Regards. Panhead2014 (talk) 22:00, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Nope, you didn't, but the beauty of it is that I can give advice and you actually have to listen, though you are free to disregard it, of course. Also, MrScorch, though I think they're a great contributor, is not an admin as far as I know. Something to look forward to, MrScorch! Drmies (talk) 22:04, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
@Drmies: Nope, I'm not. Every once in awhile I have a user think I am, and just a few weeks ago another admin said "I started to think you were an admin" (his words). As you said, it's something to look forward to in my Wiki-life. Cheers! MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 23:41, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Admin, or not, I will contact whoever I wish to about issues regarding WP that I believe need attention and if Always Learning, or whatever IP address he decides to hide behind chooses to pester you about it, then that is of course his prerogative. Regards. Panhead2014 (talk) 22:09, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Mr. Scorch (talking to Mr. Scorch, don't want Mr. Panhead to think i'm talking to him, thus bothering him - oh but just for the record, i don't HIDE behind any IP, my IP address is s-t-a-n-d-a-r-d, not d-y-n-a-m-i-c), i really apologize for creating this situation (my message to MYS77 was the "spark"), but i genuinely only wanted to know what was the current state of Míchel Salgado and Sergio Busquets' articles after my departure, did not want to stir up any old controversies or beefs.

Case closed as far as i am concerned, i won't write any more messages in Portuguese (for a while, not even in English) to anyone, sorry for any inconvenience. Hope you will accept my apologies as much as Panhead did not accept them. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 22:21, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

That's fine, I was about to drop it anyway. It's stupid to get overly-involved in a small issue like this for me. I personally consider it unhelpful as virtually every other editor doesn't know what you are saying and can't contribute to the conversation if needed. Have a good day! MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 23:27, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Again, I'm sorry about what happened, and I added this verse in my talk page:
This page can contain messages in another language, which can cause misunderstanding to another users. If you want to know what these messages correctly mean, please, feel free to ask for a translation. Cheers, MYS77
Don't know if this is allowed, but it was the best that I could think to fix the "problem", as I won't translate all my messages (sent and received). All the best, MYS77 02:43, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Trouted

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: Very careless non-admin closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BSoD. Any closure with redirect or delete verdict needs an admin to perform the action because of the presence of BSoD (disambiguation). If I wanted to redirect, I could do it myself and I would have never taken the issue to AfD. (Of course, you overlooked consensus too, but I can't revert a NAC for that; I must take it to deletion review.)

article deletion

i saw the copyright thing in just felt since it wasn't available on Wikipedia i could copy what was on the main page . its my first time so.... well i welcome your word of caution. i read some of the stuff on your talk page and saw some c++ PROGRAMMING i would welcome any help in that feild too since i am just beginig in that area Wsduho (talk) 19:51, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

@Wsduho: Everything is fine, just don't do it again. You admitted your mistake which is always the best thing to do. We have strong policies against copyright violators and you may be blocked if this happens again, although I understand this time was just a mistake and you probably won't do it again. The page should be deleted shortly. Anyway, I'm happy to see another C++ programmer on Wikipedia! Here's the most basic text-line program for you:
#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

int main()
{
     cout << "Hello World!";
     return 0;
}

I have used a message from you as an example

See WT:WER#Could more information help to keep newbies?. It happens that the first curation message I encountered after deciding to write this suggestion was yours, and I have used that as an illustration, but I want you to know that I am not getting at you in any way - it's the system I would like to see altered. Your views there would be welcome.

An interesting question - what proportion of the users you send a curation message to take up the option to ask questions on your talk page? Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:57, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

@JohnCD: I commented on your WT:WER post. I think maybe 10/100 actually contact me (oh - and yes, I'm serious). Most don't even try to contest the deletion if that's what I tagged it for. MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 22:50, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hadzhidimitrovo, Yambol Province

You tagged Hadzhidimitrovo, Yambol Province for speedy deletion as "no context". Using the other place names mentioned in the article, I was able to figure out that it is a village in Bulgaria. I added a reference and removed the speedy tag. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 01:09, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

I already saw your changes; nice work in saving it from deletion! MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 01:10, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Since deleted the content written when was logged in. The article added did little to inspire any serious content all of which is local knowledge. However, care to visit the main town and its library, sure they will assist. Apologies that the Balkans are so backwards in their web publications. Thought Wiki, was good place to start. Obvious not.

Conner Brothers Recycled Rides

Hello,

I posted an article on Conner Brothers Recycled Rides and it was deleted because it was deemed inappropriate. May I ask why it was deemed so?

Thanks,

Nick — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nickguarino125 (talkcontribs)

Hello, Nick! It was deemed inappropriate under section A7 of the Criteria for Speedy Deletion because the subject is not significant enough to be included in an encyclopedia. You can find more information in that first link. If you have any other question, please ask! Regards, MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 20:43, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

RE: JERMAINE QWELI MARK FOR DELETION

Please how can i add reference to the page, i don't want the page to be deleted, it's a page for an artiste i'm trying to sell to the world, he needs it more than me as a person. Please give me an instruction to do it or you can also help in doing it, just ask me anything you wish to know about him, i'll provide the answers, and i need to add his picture to the page.

Regarding [3], have you explained your close anywhere?  Thanks, Unscintillating (talk) 01:47, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
@Unscintillating: I have not; the only thing I said was that it was a controversial close and that I neither agree or disagree with it (I believe I said that on ANI). I'd rather not say much more as the AfD is now reopened and still running. Best of regards, MrScorch6200 (talk | ctrb) 01:52, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
