WikiProject Children's Literature

I notice that your talk page says your on wikibreak, and am only interrupting you because I saw that you just edited the project page. It seems that this wikiproject has fallen into disuse in the past few months (although there's still lots of good work being done on articles within its scope). I would like to try to revitalize the project and would appreciate any input from more experienced participants (I thought it best to ask some of the more active contributors for input first since a general statement on the talk page might come off as pretentious, i.e. "the newest member trying to take charge"). A lot of wikiprojects have departments so it seems like that and a "roll call" of the general body might be a good start. Aurum ore (talk) 06:46, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

That's okay, I've pretty much failed to take any time off at all, so don't worry about it. I'd have to agree about the WP falling into disuse, although I don't know if was ever that busy to begin with. I've actually only been a member for a few months, so I wouldn't call myself experienced—I mostly joined because I found myself editing a lot of related articles.

I think it would be fine if you wanted to make any changes—just use your judgement and perhaps discuss it on the talk page if you think it's necessary.

PS After leaving this sitting in a browser window for a few hours, I've made some significant changes to the WikiProject page. See how you like them and feel free to make further changes if you'd like. Thanks for the impetus! I've been meaning to clean it up a bit for a while, it was a mess. Wow, I didn't realize how much cruft that page had, but the new version if much more functional, especially the FA/GA lists. It looks like there's at least a few of us floating around the board, so I think I'll take your advice, post my suggestions directly there and see what kind of a response they get. Template:Entourage

Hi.

What policy is this revert based on? Sure, some TV show templates don't include the cast, crew, or quotes:

• Template:The Larry Sanders Show
• Template:Doctor Who

And some do:

• Template:South Park
• Template:How I Met Your Mother
• Template:Sex and the City
• Template:Seinfeld
• Template:Friends
• Template:Theofficeus

But I can't find a guideline either way (Wikipedia:Navigational box is no help). Maybe the Wikiquotes link isn't all that common (I stole it from Template:How I Met Your Mother) and can be debated, but it's hardly pernicious or offtopic (it's an interwiki link, which is arguably halfway between an internal and external link). Links to cast and/or crew, on the other hand, are common and, as far as I can see, uncontentious.

No authority, just semi-personal preference. The cast and crew are definitely debatable, I just don't like it because I don't think it's directly related enough. However, the quotes link is (IMHO) much less appropriate, as it is an outside-Wikipedia link — though you are right about it being a sister project — and should be placed in the external links section of the main show article. So if you want to put the cast and crew back in, that's fine, but I would still leave the quotes out (though I'm not going to revert it if you put it back in). I've restored the cast and crew sections. I can live without the Quotes link, though, as I said, I think it's harmless (as I'm sure you know, interwiki links use the internal link syntax).

I really don't see how the creators and stars of a show are not "directly related" to the show (Jerry Seinfeld's not "directly related" to Template:Seinfeld?), and, to be honest, I had to search quite hard to find templates like Template:The Dukes of Hazzard and Template:Doctor Who that exclude both (presumably because they've both had so many incarnations that neither section makes much sense in those templates). The vast majority of templates listed in Category:Comedy television navigational boxes do include cast and/or crew.

Having said all that, I see you've done sterling work on a large number of templates, so thanks for that and thanks for this discussion!

AfD is not based on voting; it's about building community consensus, not counting votes. You should probably read Wikipedia:Polling is not a substitute for discussion so you're fully aware of the way it's done here. As far as I know, there are no consequences per se for double-voting, but now that you are aware that it is inappropriate, you should not do it again. What is the point of adding "Project Children's Literature" to abook which was not intended for children? Since Salman Rushdie wrote Haroun and the Sea of Stories, does that mean that "Project Children's Literature" should be added to "Talk:The_Satanic_Verses_(novel)"? Do tell. Figwit and WITW

Excuse me, but I tried to get Watcher in the Water to go to GA, how come an article called Figwit got to GA (it too like WITW has little referencing) while you said WITW will "never get to GA"? I definitely never said that it would never get to GA, I just said that I didn't think it was likely, and not in its current state. And regarding the references, the Figwit article is probably a bit better than the Watcher article — you shouldn't compare based on number of references, but rather their quality. Bullets

Please note there are no 'standards' regarding the size of bullets in navboxes. Barring in mind the (in)visibility of bullets, small fonts should use big bullets. However, one should always observe consistency; the Heroes templates use big bullets within the project. While this may be different in other navboxes, I'd appriciate leaving the Heroes boxes like they are. Gadsby

At Talk:Gadsby (book)#Requested move you made a comment on the proposed move from "Gadsby (book)" to "Gadsby (novel)". In the Discussion sub-section I have proposed a compromise: "Gadsby: Champion of Youth". This is consistent with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (books)#Subtitles which suggests using subtitles only if it avoids a disambiguation and if the subtitle is short. In this case, the 3 word subtitle can be considered small, it avoids a disambiguation title, and it keeps the lipogram. Is this alternative ok? Template:Country history

This is just a query about Template:Country history which you created. I don't know whether you have done it delibretly or not but when you put in a header it removes the data of the same number. If this problem was fixed then templates such as Template:History of France could be converted to this template without any lose of data. Personally I have examined the template and can't work out what it causing this so if anyone else knows how to fix this it would be very much appreciated. The way that these templates are written means that you can't use the same number for a header and a data cell—you need to use different numbers. So if you have a header as number 1, then the data underneath it needs to be number 2. Does that make sense? Mr. Absurd (talk) 17:32, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip; as it happens, another user brought me up to date about this just yesterday too, so I have un-done a couple of cases of date links. Little Red Ridinghood

You seem to have reverted my edit from [2] where I changed each instance of "Riding Hood" to "Ridinghood". Well, I've never seen it spelled "Ridinghood" anywhere else. Was your copy was an official MTI version? You can change it back if you wish for now (but please leave my other edits intact). I agree, this useage is unusual. The published vocal score is copyright 1987, 1988 and 1989 by Rilting Music and published by Warner Bros. Publications. It was prepared by Tony Esposito, Dave Jessie and Jeff Sultanof from the composer's piano copy. It was purchased, rather than rented from MTI. I know that "Riding Hood" is spelled as two words in all the literature and elsewhere in Wikipedia, but the score consistantly spells it "Ridinghood" in the Cast List and in the score at every entrance at which she sings. I have no other source to compare it to, though, so I'm hoping your research will confirm one spelling or the other. Let's leave it as is until then.
