Non-free use disputed for Image:GirlfromMissouri1934movie.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:GirlfromMissouri1934movie.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Orphaned non-free media (Image:MargaretDance'TilDawn.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MargaretDance'TilDawn.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:16, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Wisegal, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/15532829.html?mode=reply. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 14:00, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Wisegal[edit]

A tag has been placed on Wisegal, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD g12.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Phgao 14:01, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:ChristmasEve1947Cover.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:29, 11 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. SimpsonsFan08 talk contribs 12:29, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:Sandra Taylor.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Sandra Taylor.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Sandra Taylor.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sdrtirs (talk) 03:42, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Safe Harbour DVD.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Safe Harbour DVD.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.

The faster you respond on this page, the better chance the article you created can be saved.

Finding sources which mention the topic of the article you created is the very best way to avoid an article being deleted {{Findsources3}}:

Find sources for Catherine Harrington: google news recent, google news old, google books, google scholar, NYT recent, NYT old, a9, msbooks, msacademic ...You can then cite these results in the Article for deletion discussion.

Also, there are several tools and helpful editors on Wikipedia who can help you:

References[edit]

I mean no disrespect and I thank you very much for all the film articles you are making. But they say that the official site of the subject and IMDB are not good enough of itself to prove that the article (in this case a film) is itself notable. Does it have any references in newspapers? Reviews? That kind of thing. This is the reference I looked at when adding that tag: WP:NF and read this quote that came from that page:

  1. A film's entry in the The Internet Movie Database can provide valuable information, including links to reviews, articles, and media references. A page in the database does not by itself establish the film's notability, however.

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Moviefan! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 4 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 942 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Nice work on new article Arabian Love[edit]

I was patrolling new pages, and wanted to stop to mention that I enjoyed your new article Arabian Love. I'm marking it as patrolled, but since I'm doing that, I'm not supposed to edit it, otherwise. So I'll just mention here to use "would not" instead of "wouldn't", and that single quotes (') are only used in the English Wiki when inside another quote with double quotes ("). Problem with Permission for your images[edit]

Hello Moviefan,

Thanks for the images you uploaded to Commons at Category:Chicago (film), such as File:Dresses from Chicago.jpg. However, you have stated in the Permission section, "This picture is meant for Wikipedia purposes only": such a permission is incompatible with the CC-by S.A. 3.0 license, which allows for unlimited reuse by anybody on any website, including commercial publication as long as you are attributed and the same license is used—is this what you intended? Wikimedia Commons cannot have non-free images, so these images will have to be deleted if this restriction stated in Permission is not removed. --Justass (talk) 22:51, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I never pay that much attention to licensing. I wouldn't mind if it's used on other sites. I'll pay more attention to it in the future.Moviefan (talk) 12:35, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wildhartlivie[edit]

Don't let Wildhartlivie bug you. She always starts fights with people who edit any of her precious articles in ways that she doesn't approve, and accuses people of personal attacks whenever they argue. It's just part of her standard modus operandi. She gets away with a surprising amount, but eventually she'll push it too far and be banned. She's already been blocked twice.—Chowbok 15:36, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the support. I'm really not into the whole Wikipedia community, I'm here purely for contributing to articles. I wasn't bothered by the double account accusation, because I myself know what's true and not, but somehow the blackmailing thing got to me. You're right, I should just ignore it. This is a personal attack based on his personal biases and are totally inappropriate. His "prediction" that I will be banned is completely out of line and he's more than familiar with the circumstances of the blocks - one of which was for sock puppetry for which personal identification was submitted to prove that I am not the same person. The other was for inadvertently correcting edits by a friend of his who is now on a one-year ban. His post is totally inappropriate and if they don't stop, I'll take him to arbcom. That's not a threat, that a promise. His conduct toward me has been atrocious and has been the subject of WP:AN/I discussion in the past and one of his userpages had to be deleted because he was keeping personal attacks on it about me. Peg Entwistle[edit]

I deleted your edits to Peg's page because most of them were inaccurate in light of the latest research. For example: Peg was never in "bit parts" or a "handful of films." Extensive research for her biography, which included weeks of my reviewing the original RKO office memos, contracts, and payroll records concerning her time with the studio, supports her having a role in just one film.

Also, the claim regarding her Los Angeles play "The Mad Hopes" in the newspaper item sourced by you is completely spurious. Contrary to the source, the play, a pre-Broadway tryout, was a rousing success in San Diego and Los Angeles during its several-weeks-long run. My research discovered many reviews and theatrical periodicals containg nothing but praise for the play and players. Your reference also contained the phrase, "but nothing came of it," in regard to a context insinuating Peg hadn't got the part. In fact, the premiere of this play at the Belasco Theater was an "Invitaion Only" Red Carpet event on the scale of a Hollywood film premiere--The city's newspapers covered the story extensively, moreover, congratulatory telegrams and family letters regarding Peg's role in the play and its scheduled short run abound with further evidence of these facts.

Your contribs with regard her divorce from Robert Keith were only partly accurate, taken from news accounts whereas the official and complete 25-page court record and testimony--which I have in my posession--does not entirely reflect the edit. "Hair pulling" is mentioned in the record, but where and when this event took place as attributed by your source is entirely incorrect. Nevertheless, even if the newspaper reference was accurate, does this information actually improve the Wiki? After many arguments concerning this exact topic several years ago between myself and other Wiki editors, it was determined that such information did not improve the article.

There is more I can discuss, however, I wish to make it clear that I do not want to discourage you, or anyone else, from contributing to Peg Entwistle's Wiki. God knows the wars that have been waged in the past regarding it! But I simply found it easier to Undo your edits in one swath than to try and nitpick it word by word.

Honestly, as her biographer I'm very pleased that Peg has so many fans, however, I think her Wiki should be left as is. I am not in any way accusing you of less than good intentions--I realize you were using what you believe to be reliable sources, however, as a biograper and a researcher engaged by a number of authors and filmmakers (not to mention the last 5 years spent researching and writing Peg's life and career) I can promise you that using sources such as tabloids, newspapers, and "Hollywood scandal" books and websites is a tricky affair with many red herrings. Hey, I have books and newspapers articles claiming she lived after the jump, was hospitalized, operated on, jumped from the 13th letter, etc. One guy, a professor at USC, is publishing a book about Hollywood "Myths" in which he will claim Peg never jumped from the Sign at all! This is the result of poor research, and of not cross-referencing the available sources.

As you may well know, the story usually goes that a letter came to Peg's house on the day after she died, the letter, it is said, was from The Beverly Hills Playhouse and contained an offer to Peg for a role playing a young woman who kills herself...sounds wonderfully "Hollywood Tragic," does it not? But did you ever notice that EVERY SINGLE SOURCE that makes this claim NEVER gives us the name of this play?! Why? Why is it that hundreds of sources make the claim and NEVER give the name of the play? Because it NEVER happened. There was no such play. It is all detailed in Peg's book, but my point is that you can just as easily include this in Peg's Wiki and give any number of sources as the reference, it makes for fun macabre, but it would be a lie. A myth. Alas, I ramble...forgive me.

Anyway, I hope you're not angry with me and I hope we can discuss it further on either of our Talk pages. Thanks! Jameszerukjr (talk) 20:25, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, this response is certainly better than personal attacks and people calling me stupid like some (who will remain unnamed). I also read about the play thing after her death, it sounded a little romanticized so I left it out. I don't understand why calling the grounds of divorce would be irrelevant. How does explaining why she divorced someone not 'improve' Wikipedia? I always like to make Wikipedia a little more personal (which does not mean it couldn't be objective), like quotes and stuff. Now, there isn't even mention of her divorce. If I read the article and not do further research, I would suppose she remained his wife until her death.
I don't know how the "but nothing came of her efforts" would suggest that she was never in the play, because the same sentence also stated that she tried to impress the critics, something you can't do when you're not in the play. Furthermore, in the previous sentence a review is quoted, in which Entwistle is named. How could she not be in the play if she is clearly reviewed?
It's a little overdone to undo everything I wrote. I didn't make a lot of changes, so it wouldn't be that much work to go through 'everything'. I included one sentence about the anonymous tip, but appearantly it's too much? I feel that it is relevant. "Acting on an anonymous tip" is a sentence that causes me to be curious, one sentence extra wouldn't hurt. I also added some information (also besides the marriage) I feel shouldn't have been removed. My sources existed exclusively of newspapers, not magazines, tabloids or scandal books (I know what you're talking about, *cough* Babylon *cough*). Newspapers may be referenced. If it's wrong information, that's sad, but it could be corrected. I don't feel I was using unreliable sources, even if such statements were made in it that are appearantly false. They are all established and acknowlidged newspapers as far as I know, and I'm indeed not discouraged to use them again in the future. I did not make any information up (I know you're not blaming me of that, but I want to make that clear anyways). I don't see what's wrong with referencing websites either, though I don't do it - apart from TCM.com and The New York Times website - because I know that Wikipedia disapproves of it. There can be no clear guidelines of what's the truth and what's not. A random biographer could be lying just as much as a website. Though, referencing a book (biography) is a golden ticket. Even if documents and reports proved otherwise, for all we know Entwistle really didn't kill herself. It's not as if police lying about death reasons to avoid paper work would be a rarity. That last remark has nothing to do with Wikipedia, by the way, but just something I wanted to add to my response. If we're going into that route, no statement could be considered reliable, even interviews with actors themselves. How do we know an actor isn't lying about everything?
Anyways, thanks for responding solely about my edits, and not me. Some could learn from it. Moviefan (talk) 21:41, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm glad we can discuss this all in an open and polite manner.
How about this: I'll Undo my Undo and we can discuss any changes that may come. That's the easiest way, I think. I am sorry I nuked you like that. I wasn't being vindictive, I was being lazy! Mentioning the divorce is important, but, as I remember, I think there had arisen an argument over the hair pulling. However, as I said, I have the court records and there was indeed some hair pulls--and other abuse. So, I say include it or call it abuse or something. Either way, if any other editors think it should not be in the article, I will stand with you to keep the information in it. Certainly, at the very least, a mention of the divorce should be included.
One of the problems of my own creation has to do with the personal letters and diaries and other documents furnished to me by Peg's brother Milton Entwistle. (I realize he is actually her "half-brother.") These family archives, including Peg's letters to her Aunt Jane, trump a lot of preconceived notions regarding Peg, her marriage, divorce, and career. The major newspapers on both coasts published their articles about Peg's end based on their interviews with Peg's uncle in the days following her death. They were simply relaying (for the most part) what they thought to be true, for Peg's Uncle Charlie was only telling them what he knew and believed...but he didn't know the whole story behind his niece's depression and pathos.
I discovered in the family archives that Peg confided secretly to her Aunt Jane some things that Charlie was to never learn. Things that no one was to ever learn--especially the public. In fact, for the first six months that I was allowed access to the archive, Peg's family withheld a particular letter written by Peg to her aunt. Only after I became suspicious did they finally relent to my questions and release the letter to me. I am saving these "trump cards" for my book. And therein lies this problem (Every biographer should have such a problem, eh!?)--I keep forgetting that when I say, "It didn't happen this way or that way," people will not simply take my word for it (nor should they!), they want to see the evidence. But if I divulge the evidence now, I will lose some of the book's punch.
Akk! I'm rambling again! Okay, I'll revert the Undo, re-read the article, and take it from there. By the way, if you want to seem some photos of Peg never seen outside of the family (until now) and other pics from a few of her plays, I posted a bunch on a Face Book page called "A Grave Marker For Peg Entwistle." The page is by a girl in Ohio who is raising money to get Peg and her father a headstone for their grave. I have nothing to do with it other than posting the pics and promising to send each donor an autographed copy of Peg's book.
Well, take care and I'm sure we'll chat some more!

Please STOP interfering with this site.[edit]

My name is Daryn Tufts and I am the writer and director of the film "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend." The synopsis I have been posting on wikipedia is the synopsis from the film's official website, which I wrote and own. This film has not yet been released to the public. The synopsis that you continue to post on wikipedia reveals elements of the film that we (the producers and creators) do not want revealed until after the film's release. In fact, your synopsis has come to the attention of our distributors and can potentially cause trouble for the film and for us.

PLEASE STOP INTERFERING WITH THIS WIKIPEDIA SITE.

If you would like to verify my identity, please contact me on facebook or twitter, where I can easily verify I am who I say I am.

This film has long been screened/released for/to the public. I've seen it on cable several times already. Wikipedia is a site in which complete plot summaries are common (if not prefered). If it causes trouble, it can be withdrawn for a while, but please elaborate, because if there isn't, there is no way to rationalize replacing full plot summaries with a brief overview. I'd like to remember people that certain people can't 'claim' Wikipedia pages, only because they are involved (or have been involved) with its contents. Wikipedia is a public website for which everyone can contribute. Moviefan (talk) 20:47, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, no, this movie has not been released to the public. It has only been screened publicly once, earlier this year, at the Newport Beach Film Festival. It is set to have it's premiere later this year. You can verify this fact here:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3ic89e89e7caab6358e69d9cc5c0f04b9f

It has NOT had its release. It is not available on any cable network. If you have seen it on cable somehow, please tell me which cable network.

Prior to a film's release, scarcity is a major issue. I am sure you have seen many examples of filmmakers attempts to keep full plot summaries under wrap until the film has it's official release. I am not trying to claim that you do not have the right to post a full plot summary - wikipedia is an open site. I understand that.

As the writer and director of this film, I am ASKING you, as one person to another, to please refrain. We are independent filmmakers. Many hardworking people have sacrificed substantial amounts of time, effort, and personal money into this project. I'm talking about years of our lives and well over a million dollars. The success of this film means everything to us, and represents a major part of our lives and futures. For you, this is a wikipedia page. For us, this is so much more. I do not wish to go into detail here, but please believe me when I assure you that having detailed plot spoilers online is a major issue for us and our success. What you are doing can harm us. I'm not making that up. And I am asking you to please stop.

So I'd like to propose a compromise. The movie should be made available to the public in December. If you feel compelled to post a detailed plot summary on wikipedia, please wait until December 31st to do so. PLEASE. I am only asking you to wait until after it has it's official release, and I am asking because many people, including me, can be negatively affected. Normal, hard-working people.

Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.172.244.65 (talk) 07:24, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm certainly not trying to harm anyone's work, so I'll leave it at what it is. The film is frequently aired on Film1 (or Film.1), a Dutch cable channel. I can't find any English language websites about the channel, but their official site is http://www.film1.nl. Moviefan (talk) 18:44, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I honestly, sincerely appreciate it. And I am sure you are right. I know the film has been sold overseas to various countries. I was unaware that it was already playing on a Dutch cable channel, but that would make sense. The film has not yet had it's U.S. release, which is the release that I was referring to (the one that will have the impact). Thanks again. And as I said, if you wait until after December to update, you shouldn't be at risk of of accidentally harming anything. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.172.244.65 (talk) 18:56, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I thought it might be fun to try and find My Girlfriend's Boyfriend on the link you sent me to that Dutch site and was unable to. It might not be featured on the actual site, or maybe I just could not find it because I don't speak the language. I was wondering - can you, by chance, find it? I would love to take a look. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.172.244.65 (talk) 19:07, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My Girlfriend's Boyfriend (2010 film)[edit]

Hi. I just found this article and wanted to let you know that you were actually correct in rewriting the article's text as it is copied directly from the official website's synopsis (which would make it copyright violation). Even film synopsis cannot be copied from other sources, so there was no need for you to "stop interfering" as you were doing the right thing. I now have this article watchlisted, but thank you for attempting to rewrite it. Pinkadelica 09:13, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plots[edit]

Please do not write any more plot sections for film articles. Your writing is really awful, and the articles would be better off without a plot section rather than with one that you've written.

I'm quite serious about this, your writing is atrocious. Please turn your attention to other aspects of editing Wikipedia and avoid writing altogether. Beyond My Ken (talk) 11:30, 19 December 2012 (UTC) Please be more specific on what articles you're referring to. Also, learn how to treat other people decently. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
